At the beginning of the 20th century, the monk Theodosius settled in this place. A righteous solitary life contributed to the appearance in this man of the divine gift of insight and healing. Rumors about Father Theodosius quickly spread throughout the North Caucasus; hundreds of people flocked to him, asking for advice and cures for illnesses. Soon a source of holy water appeared at this place of worship. The Soviet government expelled Father Theodosius from Mountain, he was sent into exile, and the nuns who lived here were shot in the forest (now there is a forged cross in this place and memorial candles are burning). In the 90s of the 20th century, the hermitage of St. Theodosius of the Caucasus found a new life. The source of holy water was improved and a chapel was built.

Caucasian Mineral Waters are known not only for the brightness of nature, clean air, healing waters and climate, but also for the history of great achievements, feats, prayers and works. His life keeps many secrets... At the beginning of the 20th century, the ascetic chose the Caucasian land to live, keeping his monasticism and priesthood secret. The Reverend took upon himself the feat of foolishness, which in the first years of Soviet power became saving not only for him, but also for many believers and non-believers. In 1996, his relics were found... The history of Caucasian mineral waters is decorated with the names of such wonderful people as A. S. Pushkin, L. N. Tolstoy, A. A. Alyabyev, V. V. Mayakovsky, F. I. Shalyapin, M. A. Bulgakov, M. Yu. Lermontov, A. I. Solzhenitsyn.

In 2011, the main temple was built in honor of the holy icon of the Mother of God of the Life-Giving Spring (the interior decoration of the temple continues to this day). Hundreds of pilgrims and sightseers come to the hermitage of St. Theodosius of the Caucasus every day. Here you can pray, drink and take some holy water with you, and taste herbal tea with pancakes in the apiary.

– Hello, dear TV viewers! The program “To Holy Places” continues its journey through the south of Russia. There are many holy places in the Krasnodar region, and one of them is located in the village of Gorny. We arrived at St. Panteleimon parish, where St. Theodosius of the Caucasus once labored. But in order not to confuse you with the names of this holy place, we want to say that on the Internet travelers call it the desert of Theodosius of the Caucasus. There is some truth in this, but there are also many myths in the history of this picturesque corner. So let's start with the name.
Nun Marfa (Vorobyova), employee of St. Panteleimon's parish:
– This place is called the spring of St. Theodosius. Nearby you will see the chapel of St. Theodosius, near which there is a source. He is called the chosen vessel of God's grace, because the future saint, as a baby, himself went to Athos, and from Athos God's Providence brought him back to Russia. Saint Theodosius came to us in the Caucasus, and through his prayer a spring began to flow here, and the Queen of Heaven Herself showed him the place. This is how the legend conveyed to us.
– The entire area here is inhabited by periwinkle - a forest climbing grass. After all, according to legend, before the construction of the temple, Saint Theodosius prayed to the Queen of Heaven for several days and nights. She appeared to him and ordered him to build a church where the periwinkle would bloom.
– These were the years from 1917 to 1927 - a time of persecution of Christianity, of Rus', of the Church, so Father Theodosius was arrested in 1927.
– First, the saint was sent to Solovki, then there was exile to a camp in Kazakhstan. After his release from exile, the elder comes to the Caucasus, to the city of Mineralnye Vody, and here he takes upon himself the feat of foolishness.

- Because no one will touch the holy fool, the fool, not even the Soviet government. Saint Theodosius, in the form of a holy fool, labored here in Mineralnye Vody. He saved many people from suicide and accidents. What accidents?
There was the Great Patriotic War, the Germans bombed the city. There is a city hospital near the train station. Saint Theodosius one day came there and began pushing the fuel tanks that stood there. The guard thought: “Well, grandfather, where can you move such a heavy weight!” But, to the surprise of the guard, the tanks moved. The elder rolled them away, and soon either a shell or a bomb fell on this place. If there were tanks there, it would have been a terrible explosion for the entire city: many people could have died. The holy elder Theodosius foresaw this and saved the city from misfortunes.
Or, for example, he came to the kindergarten and beckoned the children to follow him. They ran after the elder, the teachers were unhappy and ran after the children. The elder took the children away from the kindergarten, and at that time either a bomb or a shell fell in his place. If there were children in this kindergarten, they would all die.
Many people came to Elder Theodosius, he saw a lot, saw a lot, saved many people.

– They know about Saint Theodosius of the Caucasus in the Stavropol region, the Urals, Jerusalem and Kazakhstan. With his labors he sanctified these places. The place of his prayerful feat is also here, in the Novorossiysk diocese. Nowadays, many pilgrims come here to the shady gorge near the village of Gorny. And travelers began to say that supposedly there were two stones here: the “stone of joy” and the “stone of sadness”, next to which healings take place. Where you can go into the house of God, pray, light a candle, people began to look for some stones, reminiscent of our very distant ancestors, who prayed to the forces of nature.
– Now is probably a time when for some reason special attention is paid to some things that have nothing to do with Orthodoxy, this is some kind of pagan approach. In my opinion, we should be talking about the source of St. Theodosius and the temple that is located here: the temple of the Queen of Heaven is called the “Life-Giving Source.” The stone may be connected with the fact that there is a legend about how the Monk Theodosius prayed on the stone kneeling (on his knees). There is this type of prayer, probably now everyone knows that you can pray on a stone. This is how Seraphim of Vyritsky and the Venerable Seraphim of Sarov prayed.
The Queen of Heaven appeared to St. Theodosius while he was praying on a stone, and we don’t have any more “desire stones,” sorry. By the way, the Lord hid from us the place where exactly the Monk Theodosius prayed, just as he hid the place of the appearance of the Queen of Heaven. Seeing the state of modern man, who has such questions, the Lord did not reveal these places to us.
– There are a lot of beautiful places here. For example, one of them is right behind me. Do you see this alley? The tops of the trees closed together and formed a kind of green tunnel, in which there was a particularly thoughtful and quiet atmosphere.
Sometimes they say that the name of this and neighboring areas is Dark Beeches. I was able to find such data in the Orthodox Encyclopedia. Schemamonk and spiritual writer Hilarion (Domrachev) in 1899 founded the Pokrovskaya women's community in the area of Dark Beeches on the Markotkhsky ridge of the Caucasus Mountains between Anapa and Novorossiysk. Not far from this place Saint Theodosius built a hermitage for himself. The monastery in Dark Beeches has not survived to this day, and the buildings of the hermitage were demolished after Father Theodosius was exiled to Solovki.
“With the elder’s departure, everything ended, because the Great Patriotic War soon began, and very brutal fighting took place in these areas. One old woman came to us, whose grandmother had seen the Monk Theodosius. There is such evidence, such a living example. Back then there was only a path to the water source.
– Since 1998, this holy place began to slowly come to life: the source was ennobled, over which the chapel of St. Theodosius was erected and a temple was erected.

If this place was chosen by the Queen of Heaven, then, of course, every person who comes here receives what he asks for, that is, for whatever purpose he comes, he receives it. Because the Lord, the knower of the heart, sees our heart, but we are ministers here and do not know the heart of any person, we are ordinary people. And the Lord grants everything to a person who comes to a holy place according to his prayer, according to his spiritual disposition.
Therefore, it is very useful to visit holy places. There are many cases when people, on someone’s advice, performed such Orthodox actions: they lit a candle, prayed for their petition. And then they come back to us and thank us: “You know, I got what I asked for.” There are many such cases because this place is holy. The Monk Theodosius stands before the Throne of the Lord Almighty, and, if God pleases, those cherished desires that a person brings are fulfilled.
– Pilgrims say that the water from this source has a beneficial effect on the soul and heart, helps to recover from illnesses, but the main thing is to remember: in order to receive what you ask for, you need to pray and believe.
– Anyone can come to us every day: to celebrate the liturgy, partake of the Holy Mysteries of Christ, and confess. Please! The highest things that can happen on earth happen here every day.

Excursion “Pilgrimage to the relics of St. Theodosius of the Caucasus and Jerusalem”
The Monk Theodosius of the Caucasus is a particularly revered saint in the Caucasus, who became famous during his lifetime. Hieromonk Theodosius (secular name Fedor Fedorovich Kashin) was born on May 3, 1841 in the Perm region. As a child, he left his father's house and went with pilgrims to Athos, where he grew up, received an education and carried out monastic obedience. After taking monastic vows, with the blessing of the abbot's father, Theodosius left for Jerusalem, where he served at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.
In 1908, Feodosius returned to his homeland and settled in Kuban. In the spring of 1927, the priest was arrested and then exiled to Solovki. Feodosius was liberated in 1932. He began to live in the city of Mineralnye Vody, performing miracles of healing the sick. The priest died on August 7, 1948. He was buried on the outskirts of Mineralnye Vody in the village of Krasny Uzel. A few years later, a chapel was built on this site, to which believers are drawn from all over the country.
By decision of a special commission, Father Theodosius was elevated to the ranks of saints under the name Reverend Theodosius. In 1997, the Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary was erected, where the relics of the saint were transferred. A piece of the relics was left in the grave of Theodosius.
