In 2021, he signed the “Letter of priests and laity to Christians of Belarus.”

apologist for blasphemy

I supported Protodeacon Kuraev in his conciliatory attitude towards blasphemy on February 21, 2012 in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. He suggested that church people grow above the Old Testament and not throw stones at participants in blasphemy. I saw in reconciliation with blasphemy an excellent reason for a false mission, since the innocence of the Church may, perhaps, cause a counter-resonance, and they will understand that the Church is ready to react non-repressively even in such a case.

Subsequently, he opposed the criminal punishment of the blasphemers, justifying this by the fact that they apologized to the believers, and this means that our pain was heard by them in the cells, and also by the fact that the majority of representatives of the Church allegedly agreed that it was extremely undesirable to keep the accused in custody at least until trial, and it is better to generally limit yourself to a suspended sentence.

amoralist

He considers carnal love to be the breath of God in the human heart, and falling in love is one of its manifestations.

During Lent 2009, he announced the permissibility of marital relationships during Lent. For this, Hieromonk Demetrius was given a public warning from the Chairman of the Department for Youth Affairs, Archbishop Alexander of Kostroma and Galich:

“In order to avoid misunderstandings, you are blessed to refrain from making public speeches in the press in the future, or to make them only with my direct blessing, subject to agreement with me on the texts of speeches... Unfortunately, practice has shown that you do not yet have sufficient maturity to make competent public speeches in the media."

Archbishop Alexander pointed out to Hieromonk Demetrius the primary and strict duty of a monk - to remain in unceasing prayer, especially during the blessed period of Great Lent:

“I suggest that you take care of more carefully fulfilling this most important monastic vow, so as not to bring matters to the point where the church hierarchy has to actively take care of this.”

Member of the working group of State Duma deputy E. B. Mizulina, which prepared pro-abortion amendments to the law “On the protection of the health of citizens of the Russian Federation” in 2011-2012. In accordance with these amendments, forced abortions for the legally incompetent and minors were introduced in Russia for the first time.

Among the working group's proposals:

“Article 52 part 3.

An abortion is carried out with the written informed voluntary consent of the woman, except for the cases provided for in Part 4 of this article. Abortion of a minor is permitted with the written consent of one of her parents or other legal representatives.

Article 52 part 4.

Artificial termination of pregnancy in an adult recognized as incompetent in the manner established by the legislation of the Russian Federation is possible by a court decision made at the request of her legal representative, taking into account the opinion of this incompetent.”

He is the inventor of a special pro-abortion “Hippocratic Oath”, which prescribes the protection of human life from the moment of conception (we are not talking about medical or social indications for abortion).

Fundamentally approves of in vitro fertilization (IVF):

“Subject to a number of caveats, IVF does not give rise to moral objections.”

He took the initiative to introduce “Valentine’s Day”, “Baby Day”, as well as “Pregnant Day” with immoral motivation:

“We can invite people to show special care for pregnant women at least one day a year <...> first Valentine’s Day - on St. Valentine, then Family, Love and Fidelity Day, then Pregnant Women’s Day, which I hope will be established, Mother’s Day and Children's Day."

In 2012, he developed the “Stork on the Roof” program, according to which on April 7, 2012, on the feast of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a competition of journalistic articles and videos aimed at preventing abortions was launched. Information support for this project was provided by the Orthodoxy and Peace portal.

mass cult

Supporter of the secularization of the Church:

“The Orthodox Church must work not only as a church, but also as a public organization”

.

Orthodoxy, according to Hieromonk Demetrius, is a “unique cultural commodity.”

Consistently professes the principle of profanation, that is, the connection of the incompatible. Hieromonk Demetrius has an ideological justification for this technique, which he borrowed from popular culture:

“The missionary has to sacrifice his reputation and even his prayer in order to help others, but for this the first must be neglected and the second must be loved.”

The author of a number of profane carnival initiatives, which are justified by the fact that our time is a time of carnival culture, when the meanings and values of culture come to people, and especially to young people, through holidays. In the spirit of permanent profanation, it “churches” any phenomena of mass culture: Tolkienism, “St. Valentina", rock music, biker subculture. Consciously builds his own special newspeak:

“When communicating with young people, I have to move away from refined theological language and switch to slang. I think it's justified."

According to Hieromonk Demetrius. what is bad must be privatized for the benefit of the Church. So. he proposes to offer prayer services to the holy martyr Valentine on February 14, although on this day his memory is not commemorated by the Church, and, according to the hieromonk himself, it is not known whether Bishop Valentin of Interam prayed for love during his lifetime. Hieromonk Demetrius proposes to return the holiday to its original meaning, which it had in Europe no earlier than the 15th century.

Using the same techniques of pathological speech, the novel “The Master and Margarita” by M. A. Bulgakov is also promoted. He admits that the image of Christ is a caricature, but it was precisely in this absurd way that Bulgakov allegedly tried to reach out, to shout out to the intelligentsia, to lead his reader to the true Gospel. Through all these unsaid passages, through the absence of mention of the Resurrection, about Easter. The hieromonk suggests using for missionary preaching exactly what is not in the novel, and what needs to be filled in from the outside:

“It is important not to discard the novel - this is a talented book - but to fill it with this context, historical, cultural, New Testament, and then it will begin to sound exactly in the sense and meaning that the author gave it.”

Among the personalities and characters who, by their example, can captivate young people and bring them closer to the Church, he points out “The Master and Margarita”, “Harry Potter”, Joseph Brodsky, Galich, Vysotsky, Vizbor, as well as football player Andrei Arshavin.

He proposed to “church” Halloween, “lost” by Catholics:

“They turned it from a day of saints into a day of evil spirits. But we in Russia have the opportunity, while it is not yet so ingrained in the culture, to transform it from a day of devilry into a day of Irish-English holiness.”

.

Cultivates contacts with the informal environment, with which he is brought together by an anti-clerical, anti-institutional orientation. Here he freely creates his own mythological reality, made up of “icons” of pop and sub-culture.

For Hieromonk Dimitri, the “Russian rock” of O. Orefyeva, K. Kinchev, V. Butusov opens the treasuries of ancient Orthodoxy, which seemed to be a thing of the past.

Since 2009, he has been participating in the events of the Night Wolves biker club, which “open new horizons and represent other, non-Western, values”

:

“We are dealing with the mentality of the medieval order of the 12th-15th centuries, only now it is within Orthodoxy, and this is very interesting. This is all the more interesting because the medieval Catholic orders become an example of non-Western values, which again have to be introduced into these orders from the outside and contrary to history and tradition.”

.

Participant of the bike show in Sevastopol and the “doomsday” “Days of Sevastopol in Moscow”, organized by the “Night Wolves” in 2009. The bike show in Sevastopol was, according to Hieromonk Dimitry (Pershin), not “just a party,” but a real “action,” in which the famous missionary Protodeacon Andrei Kuraev even took part. As part of this action, a naked woman accompanied a biker who decorated his motorcycle with a flag depicting the Savior Not Made by Hands. During the scandal about this, Hieromonk Dimitri stood up for a woman who allegedly accidentally ended up in a column of bikers due to her severe myopia. At the same time, the hieromonk suggested being happy for the bikers, who do not shy away from working with such a contingent as these frivolous individuals.

The initiator of the creation of “Orthodox” skating rinks, where he consecrated ice, Epiphany bathing for bikers, etc.

Hieromonk Dimitri also declares the activities of the scouts to be within the framework of the general anti-hierarchical reform of the Church:

“What we prepare guys for in the Brotherhood is apostolate to the laity.”

Along with the “apostolate of the laity”, he sets as an example to Orthodoxy one of the weapons of the Catholic Reformation - the Neocatechumenate movement:

“The experience of the Catholic movement Neocatechumenate, which is engaged in the catechesis of adults and sets the task of reviving community life in the church,” deserves attention.”

evolutionist

Supporter of “Orthodox” evolutionism. He opposes the biblical teaching about the creation of the world, which he pejoratively calls a primitive literalist interpretation of the biblical text about the creation of the world and man:

“Such interpretations do occur, however, if we talk about the confessional affiliation of their few adherents, then these are fundamentalist Protestants from the southern states of the United States. It was Orthodox thought that, many centuries ago, formulated non-caricatured answers to these questions. And they are coherent with modern scientific theories about the emergence of the Universe and life in it.”

“Orthodoxy does not require denying the billions of years that have passed since the Big Bang and the evolution of living matter. Another thing is that behind the beauty of the expanding Universe and the genius of the evolutionary tree, it discerns the Wisdom and Providence of the Author.”

non-recognition of the Royal Family as martyrs after canonization

“The Russian Orthodox Church does not glorify Nikolai Alexandrovich as a blessed tsar... The last Russian emperor did not give his life for Christ, therefore he is not a martyr.”

Quotes

To achieve a complete legal ban on abortion now is a utopia, and a harmful utopia: instead of doing something really possible, saving, if not all, but at least many children’s lives, people would be engaged in fruitless political agitation.

Orthodoxy is not characterized by a rigid division of the Church into clergy and laity. The nature of service in itself does not bring a person closer to God. Moreover, even outside the Church, a person can serve God with his deeds and his life. This explains the Church’s hope for a bright afterlife even for atheists, who in this case will still have to somehow explain themselves to God regarding their lifetime refusal to communicate with Him. Christ died on the Cross for everyone.

Accepting extraterrestrial intelligent life is not an issue that prevents people from believing in God. Because God’s Providence extends to the entire Universe, to all worlds. If (remember Bradbury’s “The Martian Chronicles”) a missionary force lands on Mars and a temple is erected there, then Mars will be sanctified by this church service, this prayer and will simply become another diocese.

You can be Orthodox and enjoy sports. You can be immersed in worldly affairs and worries without losing your inner presence with God.

An illustration of this idea can be seen in the legend about the Catholic saint Louis de Gonzago: “Once during a break in the courtyard of the seminary, Louis was playing with a ball. At this time, his comrades indulged in traditional fun, testing both the wisdom and piety of the participants: “What would you do if you knew that in half an hour the Last Judgment would come?” - this was the question that everyone had to answer. Some said that they would indulge in prayer, others - self-flagellation. “What would you do?” - they asked Louis. "I? “I would continue to play ball.”

03/25/2014 We must, if not ban abortion altogether...

pathological speech

He confidently speaks pathological speech and uses false missionary jargon.

churching

  • Churching of time[4].
  • Throughout its history, the Church has churched time
, made it its ally, seeding its firmament with guiding stars and beacons[4].

universal

  • For us, it doesn’t matter who you are - a Christian or a Muslim... It is important for us that the child shares universal human values
, follows them, lives according to the laws and principles of the Brotherhood, and is also ready to learn more about Orthodoxy[5].

Ghetto

Why do many Orthodox Christians now create ghettos for themselves and their children, thereby depriving them of their future?! Why do we put them before a false and terrible choice: either to be a Christian, but outside of culture and science, or to break with faith, so as not to lose the space of thought and creativity?..[6]

self-expression

  • Our task is to offer the teenager an alternative that would create conditions for self-expression
    [7].

cliches from Bakhtinian jargon

  • I think that our time is a time of carnival culture, when the meanings and values of culture come to people, and especially to young people, through holidays[8].
  • The chronotope of the novel (The Master and Margarita - Ed.) is Holy Week[9].

issue price[10] new calendar

It’s a good idea to make the holiday of the Entry of the Blessed Virgin Mary into the Temple also the Day of Babies, all children of Russia... As a result, we have a very interesting calendar year: first Valentine’s Day - on St. Valentine, then Family Day, love and fidelity, then Pregnant Day, which, I hope, will be established, Mother’s Day and Children’s Day, which can successfully enter into our Russian church tradition[8].

quotes

“To achieve a complete legal ban on abortion now is a utopia, and a harmful utopia: instead of doing something really possible, saving, if not all, but at least many children’s lives, people would be engaged in fruitless political agitation.”

“Orthodoxy is not characterized by a rigid division of the Church into clergy and laity. Christ died on the Cross for everyone.”

“Accepting extraterrestrial intelligent life is not an issue that prevents people from believing in God. Because God’s Providence extends to the entire Universe, to all worlds. If (remember Bradbury’s “The Martian Chronicles”) a missionary force lands on Mars and a temple is erected there, then Mars will be sanctified by this church service, this prayer and will simply become another diocese.” .

“You can be Orthodox and enjoy sports. You can be immersed in worldly affairs and worries without losing your inner presence with God.”

“This idea can be illustrated by the legend about the Catholic saint Louis de Gonzago: “Once during a break in the courtyard of the seminary, Louis was playing with a ball.

“My friend was killed for Christ”

They killed my friend Father Daniil Sysoev - “Christ is gone!” - that’s what we called him when he served at the Krutitsky Compound.

Christ anesti!

Veritas resurexi!

It was not difficult to watch for Father Daniel - people were tearing him apart, in constant communication with them, he was in great demand and did not have time to monitor the surrounding reality, and from there they heard:

– Christ Barozu!

- Alephos anesti! - answered Father Daniel.

But he taught me this year-round missionary greeting. This was the state of his soul.

And we were introduced by another missionary of our days - Archpriest Dionysius (Pozdnyaev), now an educator of China, and then a cleric of the Church of St. Prince Vladimir in Starye Sady, of which I was a parishioner. It was a long time ago, in the already distant nineties. I was not yet a deacon, but Father Daniel came to our church one Saturday at the end of the all-night vigil (in his church it ended much earlier) - just to pray; It turned out that he and Father Dionysius were old friends from the Moscow Seminary. From then on, he often came to pray at the Prince Vladimir Church, all in missionary affairs and dreams, which he shared with Father Dionysius, who was just beginning to develop the theme of Orthodox mission in China, Korea and India.

But now for the second millennium, the Krutitskoe Compound, the rehabilitation center of St. John of Kronstadt, led by Abbot Anatoly (Berestov), and assisted by Father Daniel. I am a deacon at the same Compound, but in a different one - the Peter and Paul Church. The communities are very different, the style of service is different (Father Daniel had a znamenny chant), but there is a common supra-church Easter - processions of the cross, by mutual agreement, starting from different churches, merge into one, and then disperse again throughout the Compound. On Svetlaya, Father Daniel could have lit the Easter three-candlestick, it was so shiny and sparkling.

He knew the Easter canon by heart, was always ready to give an account of his hope, he was half Tatar himself, and served (the only one in Moscow!) prayer services in Tatar for baptized Tatars - at the request of the elders of the Tatar community (so that the youth would not become drunkards). He was open to discussions and polemics; there was something to argue with him about.

A missionary to the core - conversations, meetings: for Christ, for the sake of Christianity, against lies about God and man that distort life. Thousands of similar meetings and trips, lectures, broadcasts and debates - and so on throughout his priestly life. His polemics against Islamic, neo-pagan and sectarian proselytism received wide resonance. A knight of Orthodoxy, who always cared about those who needed help.

It was Father Daniel who was the first to openly oppose the imposition of a ban on family relationships on our parishioners for all conceivable and unimaginable pseudo-pious reasons.

Always on the move, always with another book in my head, another in manuscript, and another, just published, in my hands. Gave, gave, gave away. He was principled in his views, defended them, but never got personal, and was ready to put up with the fact that any of his own people disagreed with him. His intellectual honesty is noteworthy. Not a drop of pretense, not a drop of opportunism, he defended the truth, considering it his duty to it.

I remember his childish and sad bewilderment: the Synodal Theological Commission made a critical judgment about his approaches to creationism, without even inviting him to the meeting. Ethics and etiquette in our church life - someday we will live up to this...

I remember his service - in every word, in every gesture, in every action, focused and directed towards the inner Kingdom.

He begged for and built the temple in which he was shot; “Orthodox patrons” helped him in this.

I’m writing this post, and my colleague, a bioethics teacher, calls me and cries - they killed a priest. Evelina is a Catholic. Father Daniel was killed for Christ.

The murdered Father Daniel is a martyr. Today is his birthday in Eternity. The key words of the Gospel of this day are the words of the Savior: “Do not be afraid of those who kill the body...”.

With the saints, rest, O Lord, the soul of Your murdered apostle, Priest Daniel!

And we wouldn’t forget that Father Daniil left three children.

Christ is risen, father!
