Theology courses
Theology program (Christian theology in the context of Russian and world culture) represents a whole body of interrelated sciences. Theology is not a sermon, not an exercise in piety. It is built on strictly scientific grounds. Another thing is that these foundations themselves are not the final truth; in turn, they are derived from the Revelation given to us in the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments. The Christian faith is based on the Holy Scriptures. Theology is called upon to rationally formulate the Word of God given in Revelation and the doctrines formulated by the Church. And this presupposes that the student of theology will have to immerse himself in a special kind of scientific knowledge, significantly different from both natural science and humanities knowledge.
Of course, within the limits of additional education, students can expect to take only the first steps in mastering theological wisdom. And, of course, the presence of a higher education, despite all its fundamental differences from theological education, will greatly facilitate efforts to master theological knowledge.
A very important circumstance is that the courses at the Institute are taught by teachers with extensive experience in teaching theological disciplines. In addition, almost all of them are authors of books on relevant areas of theological and philosophical knowledge. As a result of long-term joint teaching and research work at the Institute, a scientific community was formed, whose members are united by the similarity or complementarity of approaches to the most important problems of theology. More about teachers
Who is this course intended for?
The fundamental position of the Institute is that there can be no age, confessional or other restrictions for receiving theological education. Therefore, among our applicants and students, along with senior students of the city’s universities, there are people of more advanced age who have not only higher education, but also academic degrees.
Despite the fact that the Institute is Orthodox theologically, affiliation with the Orthodox faith is not specifically identified upon admission. We proceed from the fact, and this position of ours is fully confirmed, that the path to the Orthodox Church is natural and inevitable for those who are truly ready to comprehend Orthodox theology.
