“The mercy of God is hidden in involuntary illnesses”
(Amvrosy Optinsky)
What could be more tormenting to the human heart than the pain and suffering of those who are seriously ill. Sometimes grief in the form of a bodily illness is given to cleanse the soul. Some bravely endure the torment of bodily ailments. Such was the righteous Job the Long-Suffering, who endured the torment of leprosy without complaining. Mere mortals await help from heavenly patrons and rush with prayer to confessors of God, such as St. Seraphim of Sarov. He was perspicacious, saw the heart of a person and could cure both physical and spiritual diseases.
St. Seraphim of Sarov
Prayer 1*
Audio:
Oh, most wonderful Father Seraphim, great miracle worker of Sarov, quick and obedient helper to all who come running to you! During the days of your earthly life, no one was tired of you and was inconsolable when you left, but everyone received the sweetness of the vision of your face and the sweet voice of your words. Moreover, the gift of healing, the gift of insight, the gift of healing for weak souls has appeared in you abundantly. When God called you from earthly labors to Heavenly rest, your love ceased from us, and it is impossible to count your miracles, multiplying like the stars of heaven: behold, to all the ends of the earth You appear to the people of God and grant them healing. In the same way, we cry out to you: O humble and meek servant of God, bold man of prayer to Him, deny those who call upon you! Offer up your merciful prayer for us to the Lord of strength, may He grant us all that is beneficial in this life and all that is useful for spiritual salvation, may He protect us from the falls of sin and may He teach us true repentance, without any recourse novena usher into the eternal Kingdom of Heaven, where you now in ever-shining glory, and there sing with all the saints the Life-Giving Trinity forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer Alive for help in Russian
Thanks to the established spiritual connection with the Lord, a way out of a seemingly insoluble life situation will come.
There is a text in Old Church Slavonic. But if it is difficult for you to read the original sacred text or its words are not clear, then here is a simplified version of the prayer
Text of the prayer:
- He who lives under the roof of the Most High, under the shadow of the Almighty, rests, says to the Lord: “My refuge and my defense, my God, in whom I trust!”
- He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler, from the destructive plague, He will cover you with His feathers, and you will be safe under His wings; shield and fence - His truth
- You will not be afraid of the terrors in the night, the arrow that flies by day, the plague that stalks in the darkness, the plague that devastates at noon.
- A thousand shall fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but he will not come near you: you will only look with your eyes and see the retribution of the wicked
- For you said: “The Lord is my hope”; You have chosen the Most High as your refuge; no evil will befall you, and no plague will come near your dwelling; for He will command His angels about you - to guard you in all your ways: they will carry you in their hands, lest you dash your foot against a stone; you will step on the asp and basilisk; you will trample on the lion and the dragon
- “Because he loved Me, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he has known My name. He will call to Me, and I will hear him; I am with him in sorrow; I will deliver him and glorify him, I will satisfy him with long days, and I will show him My salvation
Life of the Saint
The Reverend was born on July 19, 1759, into the Moshnin merchant family. His father's name was Isidore, and his mother's name was Agafya. At baptism the baby received the name Prokhor.
From an early age, the Lord protected the life and health of the young Christian:
- In infancy, having fallen from an unfinished bell tower, Prokhor remained unharmed.
- In adolescence, through prayers at the miraculous icon of the Mother of God “The Sign,” he was delivered from a serious illness. Suffering from an illness, Prokhor had a vision of the Queen of Heaven, who promised to visit him again soon and heal him. From that time on, the prayerful glorification of the Mother of God became constant for the youth.
After recovery, Prokhor continued to diligently study church literature, reading the Holy Scriptures every day. He liked to be in the temple, constantly offer heartfelt prayer and constantly meditate on God. He preferred to be in solitude and silence.
The boy’s attraction to monastic life grew stronger day by day. The mother did not interfere with her son’s aspirations and, when the moment came, she blessed him on the path of monasticism with a copper crucifix, which the Reverend wore on his chest until the end of his life.
In 1778, Prokhor became a novice at the Sarov monastery, where the abbot was the humble hieromonk Pachomius, who became a mentor for the young man.
In his free time from serving, Prokhor went into the forest, taking the blessing of his mentor. There he spent time in solitude reading the Jesus Prayer and in spiritual meditation.
Through his asceticism, zeal in prayer, and desire to constantly serve God, Prokhor attracted the attention of the brethren and elders. In 1786 he was tonsured a monk with the name Seraphim
The monk repeatedly had the opportunity to see the Holy Angels singing together with the brethren in the church during the liturgy. And on Maundy Thursday he was awarded a vision of the Lord Jesus Christ, accompanied by the Heavenly Ethereal Powers. Miraculous events strengthened the ascetic’s desire for solitude. Every evening, after finishing his work in the monastery, Seraphim went into the forest, where, alone, he prayed all night and indulged in the thought of God.
In 1794, the monk asked the abbot, Hieromonk Isaiah, for a blessing to live in the desert and moved to a deep forest several kilometers from the monastery.
The devil tried to influence the saint with “mental warfare”, to get him to give up his exploits and forget about the salvation of his soul. But with the help of the Lord, defending himself with prayer and the sign of the cross, Seraphim defeated the tempter. Having lost, the enemy of the human race planned to kill the elder. He sent robbers against him, who severely beat the saint, broke his head, and broke his ribs. But, not finding anything valuable for themselves in the cell, they were ashamed of their recklessness.
The Monk Seraphim, having difficulty reaching the monastery, refused medical help, entrusting his life to the Lord God and the Most Pure Mother of God. The Mother of God appeared to the elder in a dream, accompanied by the Apostle Peter and John the Theologian. She pointed to him and said: “This is of My generation.” On the same day, the monk was able to get out of bed, and after 5 months he achieved complete recovery. After his injuries, the elder remained hunched over, but forgave the robbers and asked them not to punish them.
After the death of the abbot of the monastery, the monk took a vow of silence, renouncing all worldly thoughts. In 1825, the Most Holy Theotokos appeared to him in a dream and ordered him to come out of seclusion. Now Seraphim had to ascend to the highest level of monasticism - eldership.
By this time, the hieromonk received from the Lord the gift of clairvoyance and miracles and gave advice to the suffering, full of wisdom and goodness.
The pure soul of Seraphim of Sarov was taken to the Throne of the Lord Almighty on January 2, 1833 during prayer. The elder was found kneeling before the icon of the Mother of God “Tenderness”.
On January 26, 1903, according to the decision of the Holy Synod, Hieromonk Seraphim was canonized.
Shortly before his death, the elder said that when he was gone, those in need of his help would be able to come to his grave and share their problems. He said: “For you I am alive and will be forever!” To this day, millions of people every day turn to Seraphim of Sarov with prayers for help in everyday matters and in more serious problems.
Brief biography of the saint
The future saint was born in Kursk in 1759, and in Holy Baptism he was named Prokhor.
From early childhood, miracles began to happen in his life.
The mother, who continued the work of her deceased husband in building a church, took her son with her to the construction site. The boy, left unattended, climbed onto a high bell tower and slid from there to the ground.
His mother ran after him in fear, realizing that a fall from such a height could lead to death. But nothing happened to the child; he escaped with a couple of bruises and remained unharmed.
Prokhor fell in love with books from early childhood, and having learned to read on his own, he read the Holy Gospel to his friends. In church, the young man prayed fervently and loved to attend services.
Once in 1776, in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, a fateful meeting took place between Prokhor and the elder, who predicted that he would soon take monastic vows at the Sarov monastery. A couple of years later he became a novice in the monastery, and after another 8 years he took monastic vows with the name Seraphim.
The Lord gave the monk strength to serve, so Seraphim did not need rest. He served in the monastery, fulfilled religious requirements, and worked around the house. After some time, he was blessed for the feat of silence and desert living. The monk settled in a dense forest, several kilometers from the monastery. He constantly prayed, worked in the garden, and his only source of nutrition for 3 years was greens and root vegetables.
So Seraphim lived in unity with God and nature for 15 years. Having received serious injury and lost his health due to an attack by bandits, he returned to the monastery. He accepted the feat of seclusion, but in a dream vision, the Mother of God Herself ordered him to come out of seclusion and live for the good of people: to admonish, heal, lead to faith.

Why is a prayer rule necessary?
Staying in prayerful communication can be compared to exercising. Some people do it from time to time, forcing themselves, realizing that it is necessary for the sake of health, while others have found joy in it and can no longer imagine another life.
During the day, a church-going Christian lives an attentive life, checking his actions to see how pleasing they are to God. It is much easier for Orthodox Christians to strengthen their spiritual life if they have their own spiritual mentor, who will guide and strengthen them in faith through reading the prayer rule. The holy saints knew about the weakness of the human spirit, so they wrote rules for prayer, both complete and brief, so that a person could remain in the presence of God at any time.

Many Orthodox laity took as the basis of their spiritual life the prayer rules compiled by the reverend elder, who throughout his life was known as a humble prayer book.
What do they pray to the Saint for?
In the afterlife, all saints are endowed with some kind of ability to help those who pray to him.
Saint Seraphim fervently wished that people would get rid of envy and malice towards each other. He enjoyed every little thing and encouraged others to do the same.
True believers, who sacredly revere the personality of Seraphim, say prayers in front of his image in order not to lose their guidance in life, not to succumb to temptation and not to fall into sin. By praying, you will be able to overcome your temptation.
A huge number of worshipers ask the saints, first of all, for health. That is why many want to get an answer to the question - what diseases does Saint Seraphim heal?
- Prayer appeals to the Saint for diseases of internal organs. However, in addition to the diseases to which the human body is susceptible, prayer to a saint can also heal mental wounds.
- You can pray to Seraphim even if someone around you has saddened you, your loved ones have gotten sick, or you have simply been overcome by sadness and melancholy.
- If you, being legally married, want to ask Seraphim of Sarov to strengthen your marital relationship, then you need to pray on your knees in front of the face of the saint with a lit candle. The ideal place to read the prayer would be the corner of the room, because the light aura lingers there much longer.
- Praying to a saint can also help business. However, it must be aimed at a charitable cause and be useful to others. Before turning to a saint for help in any matter, you must visit the temple and light a candle. Do a good deed, help your neighbors.
By doing this, you will send a signal to heaven that you are planning to do a good deed. The Orthodox Church tells us that we do not need to pray to any specific saint for specific help. The main thing is that your prayer is sincere and comes from the heart, only in this case you will receive what you so fervently ask for.
Seraphim of Sarov is very popular among Christians both in the church and outside it. Now Christians pray to this saint in almost every corner of our planet. In turn, Seraphim appreciates this and never refuses his help to those suffering.
By nature, Seraphim was modest. He did not at all consider himself a human savior, even though for many he was one. He said about himself that he was a nobody and had nothing. With all this, his spiritual wealth was so great that ordinary people do not have even 1/10 of it. The greatest man, the ideal image for any believer.
You can say a prayer to Seraphim of Sarov whenever it is convenient for you, regardless of the time of day.
Ikos 9
The oracles of multi-proclamation will not be able to express the strength of your love, blessed one: for you have given yourself over to the service of all who come to you, fulfilling the command of the Mother of God, and you have been a good adviser to the perplexed, a comforter to the despondent, a gentle admonition to the erring, a doctor and healer to the sick. For this reason we cry out to you:
Rejoice, you who have moved from the world into the desert, so that you may acquire virtues; Rejoice, you who returned from the desert to the monastery, sowing the seeds of virtue.
Rejoice, illumined by the Holy Spirit; Rejoice, filled with meekness and humility.
Rejoice, loving father of those who flocked to you; Rejoice, you who gave them encouragement and consolation in words of love.
Rejoice, you who call those who come to you joy and treasure; Rejoice, for your holy love you have been granted the joys of the Heavenly Kingdom.
Rejoice, Reverend Seraphim, miracle worker of Sarov.
Why was Seraphim of Sarov so revered by believers?
Indeed, more important than all the miracles is the spiritual feat that his life became. Having become a monk at the age of seventeen in the Sarov Hermitage, receiving the monastic name Seraphim, he became famous as a great ascetic who performed severe feats. Among them are a three-year vow of silence, and the feat of pillarism, when Seraphim of Sarov prayed for a thousand days and nights with raised hands, kneeling on a bare stone, and the healing of a monk after being attacked by robbers.
And perhaps the greatest feat can be considered the fact that, endowed from above with the gift of insight and miracles, the monk became a spiritual mentor for thousands of people who came to him for consolation and advice. He greeted everyone who came to him with the words “My joy! Christ is Risen!".
Even the death of Seraphim of Sarov became a miracle: he was found lifeless on his knees before the image of the Mother of God in a monastic cell, the things and books in which were already touched by flames. Then those who came remembered the words of the elder, who foresaw: “As long as I am alive, there will be no fire, but when I die, my death will be revealed by fire.”
The relics of Saint Seraphim are kept in the Nizhny Novgorod region, in the Diveyevo convent. In the last period of the saint’s earthly life, this monastery became his favorite child, he took great care of it. Nowadays, the flow of people flocking there to venerate the incorruptible remains of the holy ascetic does not diminish. And an even greater number of Orthodox Christians pray to Seraphim of Sarov, asking him for help or admonition.

How unique churches of the Russian North are being restored
“It must be said that during his lifetime he gave very specific advice to people who came to him,” says Kirill Mozgov. – As you know, Father Seraphim regularly reread the Holy Scriptures, especially the New Testament, quoted it by heart and instructed everyone to reread it. He said that the Holy Scripture is the primary source with which, first of all, one must compare one’s life.” Here is a fragment from the memoirs of Prince Nikolai Golitsyn about his meeting with Seraphim of Sarov: “The elder blessed me and asked who I was. I didn’t give my last name, saying I was just a passing person. Then he hugged me and kissed me, saying: “Christ is risen!” - and then asked if I was reading the Gospel, and to my affirmative answer he said: “Read often the following words in this divine book: “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden.”
For these spiritual principles, according to documentary evidence, he had to endure much oppression and persecution. Often even the monks in his monastery did not share his views. This is something that fades somewhat into the background when they remember an already canonized holy man. But, nevertheless, his life was quite difficult, and it was not easy for him to defend the revelation that he received from God and was able to embody in his life.
Here is one of the surviving instructions of St. Seraphim: “The soul must be supplied with the word of God, for the word of God, as Gregory the Theologian says, is the bread of angels, and souls that hunger for God feed on it. Most of all, one should practice reading the New Testament and the Psalter. From this comes enlightenment in the mind, which is changed by the Divine change.”
The most important thing is that he helped people find an answer to that spiritual thirst that a person can often have in some vague form, when he is looking for something, but this search does not take on any specific form, embodiment, expression in life. And St. Seraphim always tried to give people the opportunity to realize and express this spiritual thirst in life.
Where is the shrine containing the saint’s relics now located and where are his belongings stored?
Today the holy relics of St. Seraphim of Sarov reside in the Holy Trinity Seraphim-Diveevsky Monastery. In the left aisle of the main Trinity Cathedral of the monastery there is an ark with the holy remains of the saint. For those wishing to venerate the relics, there is a separate entrance - the doors of the left aisle are open. A monastery sister stands at the ark, to whom you can give items for consecration.
Interesting fact
In the display cases of the same chapel are kept the personal belongings of Father Seraphim, including an epitrachelion, a pectoral iron cross, shoe covers and leather mittens, and a hoe.

The Elder's Prophecies
Many of the prophecies of St. Seraphim are carefully preserved in the chronicle of the Diveyevo monastery. It is known that the Most Holy Theotokos gave a special instruction to the saint of God for the spiritual care and nourishment of the women’s community in Diveevo.
According to the Diveyevo legend, the perspicacious elder said that “there will be great disasters on the Russian land: the Orthodox faith will be trampled upon... there will be the death of many people faithful to the fatherland, the plunder of church property and monasteries; desecration of the Lord’s churches... But the Lord will have mercy on Russia and lead it through suffering to great glory...” These words began to come true after the October Revolution.
In the 40s of the last century, the Diveyevo Monastery was closed and reopened only in 1991. The Sarov miracle worker prophesied about the glorification of the women’s monastery after the repose of his relics there: “There have not yet been and are no examples of women’s laurels, but I, poor Seraphim, there will be a monastery in Diveyevo.”
Prophecy of loss and gain: the path will lie from Diveevo to Sarov
The Diveyevo Chronicle consists of the memoirs of Elder Irina Semyonovna, who personally communicated with Holy Father Seraphim. In one of these conversations, the monk told her that a king would rule in Rus', who would glorify him and then “in the middle of the summer they will sing Easter” and there will be “people like ears of corn in a field,” but the path will lie from Diveyevo to Sarov, and not vice versa , as happened before. In 1903, this is exactly what happened. Emperor Nicholas II, who deeply revered the great elder, personally participated in the glorification of his holy remains. The Emperor arrived in Sarov “in the middle of summer” on July 20. He, together with the highest church clergy, walked at the head of the religious procession on the route from Diveyevo to Sarov. During the procession, in fact, they “sang Easter” - the chant “Christ has risen from the dead” sounded.

July 19 (August 1, New Style) 1903 – canonization of St. Seraphim of Sarov
The prophecy of the Sarov ascetic about the discovery of his relics and their loss during the terrible time of persecution for the Orthodox faith came true. In the 20s of the twentieth century, his honest remains were taken from the Diveyevo Monastery, and for a long time they were considered missing. However, by God's Providence they were found in the early 90s in Leningrad in the repository of the Museum of Religion and Atheism at the Kazan Cathedral. In 1991, having gone through a truly popular religious procession, the holy remains of Father Seraphim were laid to rest where he predicted: “his resurrection will be like the resurrection of the seven youths in the Okhlonskaya cave in the days of Theodosius the Younger, and after his resurrection he will move from Sarov to Diveev and there will open the sermon of worldwide repentance.”
What they ask for and how the miracle worker helps
Seraphim of Sarov is revered for his wisdom, ability to give advice, and show the right path. They pray to him at home or in churches, perform prayer services, and sing akathists.
Ending mental suffering
The lifetime feat of the elder, who was able to find peace of mind by freeing himself from spiritual as well as physical torment, became the reason for appeals for finding peace and humility. Those who have lost loved ones, as well as those who cannot survive the sent everyday difficulties, turn to him.
Restoring harmony and finding mental stability
A solitary life, comprehending the meaning of existence while performing daily prayers is an example of how you can find harmony. Seraphim possessed this knowledge, since he purposefully walked towards it, so it is customary to ask him for peace and finding harmony.
Guiding the believer on the right path
Elder Seraphim was an example of devoted service to God. He is often asked to strengthen faith and find the right prayers. This is due to the lifestyle that the elder chose. From a very early age, he observed church traditions, adhered to his chosen principles, and did not betray them.
Fighting despair and pride
Humility, as one of the main virtues, was preached by Seraphim during his lifetime. Work on himself accompanied his life until his last days. That is why it is customary to turn to Elder Seraphim with requests for deliverance from despair, for the humility of pride or vanity.
Healing serious illnesses
During his lifetime, Seraphim of Sarov discovered the gift of healing. In the last years of his life, he received the sick and blind, who were healed after the touches and prayers performed on them by the elder. People still turn to him to heal loved ones. They believe that for healing it is necessary not only to fervently pray to Elder Seraphim, but also to touch the relics.
Finding a life partner
The Diveevo Convent, according to eyewitnesses, is a blessed place created by Seraphim of Sarov, where it is customary to ask for marriage. Young families come there and pray for the conception of children and strengthening of marriage.
Promotes advancement in trade and business
Saint Seraphim is asked to strengthen his own business, subject to honest transactions. It helps to avoid entering into unprofitable contracts.
What does Seraphim of Sarov help with: the gift of healing
Even during the life of Father Seraphim, after his long exploits and labors, when, at last, at the command of the Queen of Heaven, he came out of seclusion and began to receive people, those who came to him began to notice that the elder had special gifts.
One of them was the gift of healing. People of completely different classes came to the monk - peasants, nobles, and military men. There were also those who, despairing of medical help and having spent considerable money on doctors, decided to turn to Elder Seraphim.
Everyone who came to the priest left comforted, receiving enormous spiritual benefit. But those who suffered from serious illnesses or unknown ailments (which doctors sometimes found it difficult to even diagnose) left doubly joyful. They received healing through the prayer of Elder Seraphim, and often this radically changed their entire subsequent lives!
Evidence of many cases of healing has been preserved in the form of letters, notes and other documents, and all of them were included in published books, including the life of Father Seraphim.
Cases of prayerful help and healing at the grave of the saint served as one of the grounds for canonization, which took place in 1903.
Miracles of healing on the relics of the priest and his source continue to this day, and chronicles are kept about this in the Seraphim-Diveevo Monastery. The holy spring of Seraphim of Sarov near Diveevo is especially popular among the people.
Sarovsky's path to God
His life was unusual from the very beginning. His father passed away early, the family was led by his mother, Agafya. As a little boy, Prokhor tagged along with her to look at the construction of a new temple. It was started by his late father. A curious child climbed to the very top of the bell tower, from where he fell, looking at the domes.
But it turned out that the boy did not receive a single scratch. Many view this as a sign of God’s special mercy. Then Prokhor was only 7. He showed zeal in his studies, loved to read the Bible, pray, and go to services. At the age of 10, he became seriously ill. In a vision I saw the Mother of God herself. The Queen of Heaven promised that he would soon recover.
The image of the Queen of Heaven “The Sign” was carried past the house in a religious procession; the mother came out and placed the boy next to the icon. Immediately the patient's condition began to improve. This event influenced his entire future fate - the boy decided to devote himself to serving God. The mother, being a deeply religious person herself, did not object.
At the age of 17, he made a pilgrimage to the Kiev Pechersk Lavra. There he met a monk who advised him to also visit the Sarov monastery, in the Tambov region. There the young man began his monastic exploits - he followed all the rules, and really loved going into the forest to communicate with God.
Other interesting facts from the life of a monk:
- 1780 - the novice suffered a serious illness, which he endured with great patience. Prokhor suffered for three years, but never once blasphemed the Lord. Then the Mother of God appeared to him. In general, during his life the monk was honored with several of her visits (according to legend, the Mother of God visited him 12 times).
- 1786 - tonsure into the monastic order (minor schema), during the tonsure he was given the name Seraphim. Ordained to the rank of deacon.
- 1793 - ordination as hieromonk.

Biography of a saint
The Holy Reverend Seraphim of Sarov was born in Kursk to an ordinary merchant family under the name Prokhor. As a child, his parents were engaged in the construction of a city church and it was during this period that the first miracle happened to him, the boy fell from the bell tower and did not receive a single scratch, and from then on Prokhor began to be interested in the Holy Reading, and as a 17-year-old teenager he decided to serve the Lord.
The elder of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra Dositheus (Reverend Dosithea) blessed Prokhor to go to the Sarov Assumption Hermitage, on the border of the Nizhny Novgorod and Tambov provinces, known for the strict implementation of monastic rules and the ascetic life of the inhabitants (ikos 3). After two years of monastic labors and feats of obedience, Prokhor fell seriously ill and refused the help of doctors for a long time. Three years later, the Mother of God appeared to him with the apostles Peter and John and healed him (kontakion 5).

Already at that time, the young ascetic was honored during divine services to see the holy Angels and our Lord Jesus Christ Himself coming through the air, surrounded by the Heavenly Forces (ikos 6).
In 1793, Saint Seraphim was ordained to the rank of hieromonk and began the feat of desert living and solitary prayer in a forest cell, on the banks of the Sarovka River (kontakion 6). The devil intensified his war against the ascetic, and the monk took upon himself the feat of pillar-making. For a thousand days and nights, with raised hands, he prayed on the stone: “God, be merciful to me, a sinner” (kontakion 8).
Powerless to spiritually overthrow the ascetic, the devil sent robbers against the monk, who inflicted mortal wounds on him, but the Mother of God appeared and healed him for the third time (ikos 5).
Upon recovery, the Monk Seraphim labored in the feat of silence for three years, and in 1810, after a 15-year stay in the desert, he opened himself in a monastery cell. For his love of God, humility and exploits, the Monk Seraphim was awarded the spiritual gifts of clairvoyance and miracle-working.
On November 25, 1825, the Mother of God with Saints Clement of Rome and Peter of Alexandria appeared to the ascetic and allowed him to finish his retreat. The venerable elder began to receive those who came to him for blessings, advice and spiritual consolation, lovingly calling everyone: “My joy, my treasure” (kontakion and ikos 9).
The Monk Seraphim, as throughout his life, invariably based his word of edification on the word of God, the works of the holy fathers and examples from their lives, while especially honoring the holy champions and zealots of Orthodoxy.
He loved to talk about Russian saints. The monk convinced everyone who turned to him to stand for the steadfastness of the faith, and explained what the purity of Orthodoxy consists of. He convinced many schismatics to abandon their errors and join the Church.
The saint abundantly reinforced his teaching words with prophecies, healings and miracles. Many soldiers who received blessings from St. Seraphim testified that through his prayers they remained unharmed on the battlefield.
The Monk Seraphim looked after and led the sisters of the Diveevo monastery and, at the direction of the Mother of God, founded a separate Seraphim-Diveevo mill community for the girls. The Queen of Heaven announced to the ascetic in advance about his death, and on January 2, 1833, the Monk Seraphim gave up his soul to the Lord, during kneeling prayer before the icon of the Mother of God (kontakion and ikos 10).
Through the prayers of St. Seraphim, numerous signs and healings were performed at his grave. On July 19, 1903, the glorification of the saint of God took place.
Death of Seraphim
The icon of “Tenderness” of Seraphim of Sarov was in his cell all his life, near which he anointed parishioners with oil from a lamp. And it was near this icon, praying, that the elder gave up his soul to God. Before his death, the Mother of God came to him in a dream and informed him of his imminent death. Knowing that he would soon be gone, the elder prepared a grave for himself and gave his final orders.
The old man awaited his death with joy. This was an opportunity for him to reunite with the Lord. And Seraphim of Sarov bequeathed his main inheritance - the icon of “Tenderness” - to the sisters of the Diveyevo monastery. And he gave the order to build a separate cell for her, for which he allocated funds.

Life of Seraphim of Sarov
The Monk Seraphim of Sarov, a miracle worker who bore the name Prokhor before his tonsure, was born on July 19, 1759, into a pious merchant family from the city of Kursk. Already from childhood, his life was marked by signs of God's mercy
As a child, he carelessly fell from the church bell tower, but remained unharmed. Then, as a youth, he became seriously ill, but the Mother of God promised his mother in a vision that he would be healed, and when he was placed on the Kursk Icon of the Mother of God of the Sign, he quickly recovered
At the age of seventeen, the young man finally decided to leave the world, and his mother blessed him with a simple copper cross, which he did not part with until the end of his life. For two years he labored in the Sarov Assumption Hermitage, known for the strictness of fulfilling the monastic rule, and then, on August 18, 1786, he took monastic vows with the name Seraphim, which means “fiery.” Almost immediately he was elevated to the rank of hierodeacon, and then hieromonk.
After this, the monk took upon himself the feat of living in the desert, cutting down his cell on the Sarovka River. Experiencing temptations from the devil, Saint Seraphim intensified his feat and prayed on a stone for a thousand days and nights with raised hands: “God, be merciful to me, a sinner.” Then the devil, powerless to spiritually overthrow the ascetic, persuaded the robbers to attack him and inflict mortal wounds on him with an ax. But even after this he was healed by the Mother of God, and he kindly forgave the caught robbers.
Upon recovery, the monk took upon himself the feat of silence for three years. For his exploits, the monk was awarded the gifts of clairvoyance and miracle-working, and after a long retreat he began to accept everyone who came to him for advice and consolation. The monk accompanied his instructions with healings, prophecies and miracles. The main gift that he received for his boundless love for God is an all-encompassing love for his neighbors. “Christ is risen, my joy!” — with these words the God-bearing elder greeted everyone who came to him.
The Monk Seraphim based his simple words of edification on the Holy Scriptures and the works of the holy fathers. Seraphim of Sarov especially honored the holy champions and zealots of Orthodoxy, and he called on everyone who came to maintain unshakable faith in God. The monk lovingly convinced many schismatics to abandon their delusions. In 1833, the Monk Seraphim of Sarov went to the Lord in peace and was found already lifeless on his knees in prayer before the icon of the Mother of God “Tenderness,” in front of which he prayed all his life. But even after his death, many miracles were performed at the saint’s grave, which were carefully collected by their witnesses, and in 1903 the saint was canonized.
The Great Seraphim is the saint of the Sarov desert. Detailed life of Saint Seraphim.
Attack on Seraphim of Sarov and his death
The elder had great physical strength, despite his advanced years. He managed the household himself, but when robbers attacked him, demanding money, he did not fight back. Evil people severely beat the old man, leaving him barely alive.
With great difficulty he reached the Sarov Monastery. The doctors examined him and were surprised that he survived with such wounds. The saint refused medical help and soon got up. But I no longer had the strength to go back to my cell. His back was bent, his legs could barely move.
He lived in a monastery for several years before his death. One day, a burning smell was heard from his cell. Everyone knew that the saint said that during his lifetime there would be no fire, but his death would be revealed through the fire of his cell. And so it happened.
The brothers broke into the elder’s cell and found him kneeling in front of his beloved icon of the Mother of God “Tenderness.” The monk was already in another world with his soul. And his body exuded a fragrance.
He was buried in the Sarov Monastery. People flocked to his grave from everywhere.
What rules must be followed
They make petitions to various saints. It doesn't matter who it is. You can pray in church and at home. In the latter case, you need to adhere to the following recommendations:
- purchase an icon of the saint to whom the appeal will be directed;
- stay alone so that there are no distractions;
- tune in and discard bad thoughts, relax;
- light a candle near the image and cross yourself three times before and after the petition;
- read prayers daily with strong faith and good intentions;
- mentally imagine the face of the saint and how the words reach him;
- ask that the product be useful to the buyer and serve for a long time.
It is prohibited to pray while intoxicated. Before asking, you should observe a short fast. This will help cleanse your body and soul from everyday sins.
It is good if a person often attends divine services, confession and communion. Also, for petitions to help the merchant, you yourself need to be a kind person and work honestly.
You shouldn't wish harm on your competitors. Otherwise, there is no need to rely on the help of the saints.
Prayer must be said meaningfully. This is not just a set of words, but living communication with the Lord. Sincere faith in God's help will justify itself.
You can also address the saints in your own words. The main thing is that they come from the heart. If for a person trade is his life’s work, then it is better to use different texts for petition. When it is not possible to pray daily, then it is imperative to do this before trading.
How to attract success to a store, retail outlets at markets, etc.
There are a large number of conspiracies, prayers, rituals that are aimed at:
- Protection from competitors
- For a good profit
- Successful deal
- Protection from the evil eye of income,
- Sale of stale goods,
- So that the buyer does not leave without purchasing.
There are times in life when people easily start their own business and things go smoothly and easily, but some people have a lot of problems and nothing goes well. Or it also happened when a fairly successful entrepreneur crashed due to some trifle. And no one could explain anything. How does this happen?
It happens that everything is connected with a person’s desire and attitude to start his own business. If a beginner has no desire to do anything special or he does it at someone else’s request, then such an event is unlikely to be successful. But what to do if a person has a desire and he tries with all his might, but nothing works?
Then you can use reading strong prayers. There are certain saints to whom you need to turn your prayers, but you must remember that no matter in front of which person the prayers are said, you must always:
- Believe in what you ask for
- Do not carry despondency in your midst,
- Give alms to those who ask and help those in need,
- Ask in prayers that your product will benefit the buyer and serve him for a long time,
- After you receive grace from the Lord, be sure to thank him for it.

At this time, Sampson was the treasurer of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra, where he lived for ten years. He found peace and tranquility in serving the Lord, and the beauty of the Lavra delighted him. But those years were a terrible time for the church in Russia. At the beginning of 1932, the Cheka demanded from his father the keys to the storerooms and all the Lavra’s wealth, but Sampson refused to help them.
From that moment on, the terrible pages of his life began. He went through the “Tram” torture and 18 years of imprisonment in camps. It is believed that it was the prayer to the Mother of God “All-Merciful” that saved him and helped him survive in terrible times. This prayer was told to him by Seraphim of Sarov, who appeared to the clergyman in a dream the night before his arrest. Seraphim slowly read the text of the prayer to Sampson and ordered him to read it every day and distribute it, assuring him that this would save him in future trials. Daily reading of prayer in unshakable faith in the Lord helped Father Sampson go through all the hardships and survive in the inhuman conditions of the camps.

- If this is not possible, you can say the prayer in your own words without deviating from the essence of the request.

Icon of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker
A mandatory requirement is to remember to thank higher powers if your job search is successful.
You can ask for help in your work either directly to the Lord himself or to His saints - the second category of prayer texts is the most in demand. To find a good job, believers most often address their prayers to the holy martyr Tryphon, the blessed old woman Matrona of Moscow and the Venerable Seraphim of Sarov. Some ask Jesus Christ for help.
Any Orthodox prayer acts as a connecting link between higher powers and a believer. For a prayer request to help you find a good job, it is not enough to simply select any of the texts suggested above and pray with its help. The prayer must be read carefully, its content must be carefully studied so that the applicant can understand the very essence. It is advisable to memorize the text and read it from memory.
You are also allowed to address the Lord and holy miracle workers in your own words. The main thing is that they are pronounced sincerely and come from the heart. Communication with God will bring the greatest result if it is done in holy places - temples, churches, chapels. But this does not mean that you cannot pray outside these institutions - prayer can be used at home, in the office - in any place convenient for the applicant.
It is recommended to begin your prayer request to be hired by saying “Our Father.” After it, you can already read the prayer itself, addressed to a specific saint. It is also obligatory to make the sign of the cross on yourself three times before and after each reading. The best effect is achieved by prayer said on your knees. Regular attendance at a place of worship also helps improve performance.
A mandatory requirement is to remember to thank a higher power if your job search is successful. Heaven helps worthy people in a short time. Those who are obsessed with laziness will have to work hard and put more independent effort into finding a job.
