On June 7, 2021, applications for participation in the International Open Grant Competition “Orthodox Initiative - 2021” began.

A special feature of the current season of the competition will be that during it special attention will be paid to the development of the northern territories and support of the indigenous peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East of Russia, according to the website of the Sorabotnichestvo Foundation.

Acceptance of applications for participation in the competition will last from June 7 to July 5, 2021 . At the same time, this year the amounts of grant applications have been increased: up to 1 million rubles for local projects and 1 million 800 thousand rubles for network and infrastructure projects.

Traditionally, the competition for the blessing of Patriarch Kirill is held by the Coordination Committee for the Encouragement of Social, Educational, Information, Cultural and Other Initiatives under the auspices of the Russian Orthodox Church. The operator is the Foundation for Support of Humanitarian and Educational Initiatives “Co-operation”.

Canonical divisions of the Russian Orthodox Church registered as legal entities can apply for grant support for their endeavors. persons NPOs, state and municipal institutions, non-governmental organizations in the field of education, culture, healthcare, social protection and others, incl. organizations created by the Russian Orthodox Church or with its participation, as well as the media, commercial organizations and individual entrepreneurs.

In order to develop civic activity in the northern territories of Russia and support the indigenous peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East of the country, this season a separate category “Development of the Northern Territories and Support of the Indigenous Peoples of the North” has been introduced in all project areas.

It is noted that projects in this category can be aimed, inter alia, at “popularizing national cultures and interaction with indigenous peoples of the north, preserving the cultural heritage of the peoples of the north in the field of art, folk art, etc., supporting ethnocultural projects and development of ethnotourism as a tool for popularizing the preservation of culture and the diversity of Russian culture.”

In addition, this could be to promote handicrafts and “promote handicraft products to Russian and international markets, to create a comfortable environment and improve the quality of life of residents of the north.”

Traditionally, you can apply for the competition in four areas: education and upbringing; social service; culture; informational. In addition, there is a special nomination “Small Towns and Villages”, grant support for which can amount to up to 300,000 rubles.

The winners of the Orthodox Initiative 2021 competition will be announced no later than July 31. Projects that received grant support must be implemented between July 1, 2021 and January 20, 2022.

On March 5, 2021, the Coordination Committee for the promotion of social, educational, informational, cultural and other initiatives under the auspices of the Russian Orthodox Church announced a small grant competition “Orthodox Initiative - 2021”. The competition is held with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus'.

The following can take part in the competition: canonical divisions of the Russian Orthodox Church; non-profit organizations registered as legal entities; state and municipal institutions; non-governmental organizations in the field of education, culture, healthcare, social protection and others, including organizations created by the Russian Orthodox Church or with its participation; mass media; commercial organizations and individual entrepreneurs.

Applications from participants are accepted within a month - until April 5. The announcement of the winners of the competition will take place no later than April 25, and initiatives that have received support from the Collaboration Fund must be implemented within a period not exceeding three calendar months, from May 1 to October 31, 2021.

The small grants competition involves projects that are implemented by one organization in one region or territory. The amount of the requested grant cannot exceed 120,000 rubles.

The competition considers applications in the following project areas: education and upbringing (22 thematic areas); social service (25); culture (20); informational (2). The list of thematic areas is given in the Notice of announcement of the small grants competition.

Back in 2013, the Council of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church adopted the document “Position of the Russian Orthodox Church on current environmental issues,” which, in particular, speaks of the importance of organizing educational, educational, information programs of the Church and society in the environmental sphere. As part of the current competition, in addition to undertakings in traditional areas - education and upbringing, social service, culture, information - it will be possible to receive support for projects on topics such as ecology and lean management.

The competition has also been supplemented with a special nomination “Regional Traditions and Orthodox Crafts.” The winners in this category may be initiatives based on familiarization with regional cultural and craft traditions, the formation of interest in traditional family values ​​among the local population, the development of regional branding and the promotion of national crafts that once appeared under the influence of Orthodox traditions. The competition can support initiatives to create clubs, centers that popularize the cultural and historical traditions and Orthodox crafts of these territories, as well as programs to introduce children, adolescents and young people to the Orthodox traditions of the region and national crafts. In addition, it is possible to finance information and other educational projects that allow local residents to learn about regional traditions, create social workshops and museum exhibitions about the Orthodox crafts of a given territory, and other projects on this topic.

The list of winners of the International Open Grant Competition “Orthodox Initiative 2019-2020” has been approved. This was reported by the Collaboration Foundation.

According to the organizers, 993 applications were submitted to the competition, of which 194 projects from 55 regions of Russia, as well as from countries of Central Asia and far abroad, became winners.

The winners of the grant competition were:

  • in the direction of “Education and Upbringing” - 59 projects (350 applications were considered, 65 of them came from small towns and villages).
  • in the direction of “Social service” - 62 projects (253 applications were considered, 37 of them from small towns and villages).
  • in the “Culture” direction - 50 projects (313 applications were considered, 88 of them from small towns and villages)
  • in the direction of “Information activities” - 23 projects (77 applications were considered, 12 of them from small towns and villages).

“The most active in the “Orthodox Initiative 2019-2020” competition were government agencies - they submitted 413 projects, of which 48 applications were approved by the Unified Expert Council. Church organizations also showed great activity, submitting 330 applications to the competition; The winners from this category of participants included 87 projects. 207 applications were received from NGOs, 40 of them won the competition. Commercial organizations that sent 43 applications this year received grant support for 19 projects,” said the Executive Directorate of the Coordination Committee for Support of Social, Educational, Information, Cultural and Other Initiatives under the auspices of the Russian Orthodox Church.

According to its representatives, the most popular direction for government organizations was “Culture” (177 applications), for church organizations - education and upbringing (83 applications).

“The applications were almost equally distributed in the two most popular areas among NGOs - “Education and Upbringing” (109 applications) and “Social Service” (108 applications). Commercial organizations mainly manifest themselves in the information sphere (19 applications were submitted from them in the “Information Activities” direction). Of the total number of participants, the largest share is occupied by project creators from the Nizhny Novgorod region, Moscow, Omsk region, Udmurtia, Krasnoyarsk Territory, and Rostov region,” the organizers reported.

The “Orthodox Initiative 2019-2020” competition was held from September 1 to October 15, 2021. The winners will be able to begin implementing projects starting February 15, 2021.

Since 2010, the implementation of the competition has been continued by the Coordination Committee for the promotion of social, educational, informational, cultural and other initiatives under the auspices of the Russian Orthodox Church. The main goal of the competition is to support civil initiative in society, to encourage creatively active people to engage in practical creative activities aimed at the benefit of their neighbors, at preserving and strengthening cultural and moral traditions. This support is provided on the basis of large-scale and diverse cooperation between the Church, society, business structures and the state.

Within the framework of the competitive areas (“Education and Upbringing”, “Social Service”, “Culture”, “Information Activities”) projects are being implemented, firstly, indicating the enormous positive creative potential of Russian society, and secondly, illustrating the richness and diversity of forms , in which civil initiatives are embodied.

The competition is also different in that due to the so-called. small loans provide support for projects—real seeds of civil initiative, even if they are not large-scale. This determines the increase in the number of participants from the regions, as well as from small towns.

In order to support the initiatives of applicants from small towns and villages, as well as applicants, regardless of the place of their registration, if the projects they submit are planned to be implemented in small towns and villages, within the framework of each project area, not only local and infrastructure/system-forming projects are considered, but also small according to the scale of the undertaking in a special category. The amount of grant support for a project in the special category “Small Towns and Villages” can be up to 300,000 rubles.

The winners of the competition will be announced no later than July 31. Projects that received grant support must be implemented between July 1, 2021 and January 20, 2022.
