This is roughly how numerous movies paint the picture of the battle between good and evil. But what does exorcism actually look like? We talked with the most famous exorcists in Ukraine. Orthodox and Catholic priests, pagans and psychics told us about their methods of fighting evil.
Of course, there are no aspen stakes in the priests’ arsenal. An “exorcism session” is, first of all, hours-long prayers, just as the demon runs away from holy water and censer like fire. Sometimes it is enough just to go to a prayer service once to drive out the devil, but often only after years a person is completely cleansed.
Officially, the Church comments on the exorcism of demons very carefully. According to the press secretary of the UGCC Pavel Drozdyak, only priests who have received permission from the bishop can perform exorcism. It turns into words. “I won’t eat anymore!” - a plump woman who reproaches herself either for gluttony or for her love for a glass. “Don't hit me, please!” - her neighbor shouts to herself. "Stop drinking!" - the woman who came to the temple drunk screams heart-rendingly. The old grandmother almost loses consciousness, we help her get to the bench. The woman begins to kick her legs, her eyes roll back. We are asked to leave. The last thing we hear is thuds, people falling to the floor...
How to atone for lustful sin
Each of the passions is capable of capturing the soul and removing it from communication with the Eternal purity of the Lord. If sins are combined, it becomes difficult to get out of a dangerous situation, therefore the task of every Orthodox Christian is to destroy all the seeds of sinfulness.
The first thing is to cleanse the recesses of the heart, which will allow you to see God in the soul. He will give instructions and faithful advice that will protect you from the influence of the sin of fornication. Not a single thought can be hidden from the Creator, therefore the desire for fornication or adultery must be destroyed by great shame in the face of the Almighty. “I’ll make sure she doesn’t live to see the morning. I will make her hang herself,” these were the words the devil “greeted” Father Vasily 17 years ago during his first rite of exorcism. No, the evil one did not appear in the form of a devil with horned hooves. The girl who was brought to the church spoke in a low male voice. Only later did she remember her torment. The hand itself reached for the noose, but then the image of the Virgin Mary appeared, and the rope fell to the floor. “I had to save that girl, and I began to pray,” recalls Father Vasily. He admits that over many years he has learned to “smell” the devil. Using his techniques, he X-rays a person and finds Satan, even if he is hiding in the tip of his little finger. It happened that I even saw evil spirits. He says that sometimes disgusting green creatures appear or are seen in the temple like the shadow of a terrible furry beast.
“There have been different cases over the years. One time the devil shouts to me: “Don’t try, I won’t get out!” She smokes!". It took a long time to persuade the obsessed woman to quit smoking. Another demon did not want to part with the sinner because she worked on Sundays (according to Holy Scripture, work on Sunday is a sin, this day should be given over to prayers. - Author), says Father Vasily. — Once I was in a prison where mentally ill people, murderers, maniacs are kept. But I didn’t see any signs of obsession in any of them.”
Adultery: what is it?
Answering the question about what adultery is in Orthodoxy , we can say that this is a great sin, part of the 10 commandments. This sin usually involves treason and infidelity. In ancient times, those persons who committed adultery were subject to the most severe punishment - death penalty, since this such action was equated with an ungodly and devilish act. More often, people convince themselves that there is a demon inside them,” says Kiev-Zhitomir Bishop of the RCC Stanislav Shirokoradyuk. He says that identifying false demons is quite simple. It’s worth sprinkling a person with plain water, and then with blessed water, and observing the reaction: “Some people even start to growl or scream because of the water that flows in the tap, which means they are playing at being possessed.

Sometimes this fails. “It’s a pity for one guy from Zhitomir. He sewed himself a shirt with satanic symbols, performed some rituals... No matter how hard we tried to help him, we couldn’t,” the bishop sighs. - But don't be alarmed. All those who are baptized are under the protection of the Lord, and in order to become possessed, you must go to meet Satan halfway: you visited a psychic, dabbled in spiritualism, and the devil himself begins to play with you.”
How to atone for adultery

Christians without rank could drive out the devil. But their spirit of life is weakening, and now only priests can cast out demons, necessarily with the permission of the bishop or abbot of the monastery.
