History of the Feast of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Many years ago the city of Constantinople was occupied by enemies. The city was one step away from the fall and most of the inhabitants hid in the temple and there they prayed for the enemies to retreat. Among those who took refuge in the temple were Blessed Andrew and Epiphanius, his disciple. They had a vision of the Mother of God appearing from under the temple dome, accompanied by John the Baptist and John the Theologian. They joined in common prayer, and then the Mother of God took off her veil and covered the people with it. That night a storm destroyed the enemy's ships, the siege was lifted, and Constantinople was liberated.

The holiday began with a story that happened in Constantinople. Host: The Mother of God saved our native country with her veil countless times.
When it seemed that everything was starting to collapse, she showed concern for people through icons and helped liberate the country from conquerors. The Veil is a manifestation of the love of the Mother of God for us mere mortals. I want to tell you a story. During the war, children were sent in trucks as far as possible from the front lines. We drove at night so that the cars would not come under bombing. The road went through the forest and in the darkness the trucks lost it, so we had to drive through the fields. Suddenly a woman appeared in front of the first car. She stood silently, only her arms were outstretched to the sides. The driver got out of the car, but the woman was not there. He moved, and she appeared again. The driver got out of the car again and walked a little forward, and there was a cliff. The cars returned and found their way. This is how the Mother of God saved the children. Child 1:

Children sing the song “All Praise to the Mother of God.” Host: Here is an incident from the life of Andrei the Holy Fool, who saw the Mother of God in the temple.
When he went to heaven, he did not meet the Mother of God there. Andrei asked the angel: “Where is she?” He replied: “She walks the earth and helps people.” And at this time she is near someone who is in dire need of her help. Child:

Host: The Feast of the Intercession exists exclusively in Orthodoxy. The Slavs first celebrated the holiday in 1165. On this day, families go to church to ask for the intercession of the Mother of God. Reading poetry against the background of bell ringing.
Presenter: The signs of the Intercession reflected the observation of the peasants, they were guided in practice. What signs do you know? Children: If the wind is east, winter will come cold.
During the holiday, cranes fly away to early winter. They judge by the weather: autumn before lunch, and then winter. If there is no snow on Pokrov, then there will be no snow on Christmas. Children:
Presenter: The main agricultural work ended for the holiday, and fairs began in many cities. Children come out dressed as buffoons.
Children come out dressed as merchants.
The buffoon finishes.
Host: Pokrov was famous in Russia for weddings. Many girls always went to church for the holiday and lit candles under the icon of the same name. We tried to spend this day without sadness, cheerfully. After all, if a young girl has a fun holiday, she will soon find a boyfriend. For the holiday of the Intercession, home gatherings began among young people, girls embroidered, knitted and sang folk songs. The women baked pancakes and “baked the corners” so that the heat wouldn’t blow out of the house. We, too, following tradition, baked pancakes and the kettle was already boiling. We won't be afraid of a long winter. I invite you to a tea party. Children are invited to tea and pancakes.

Educator: Guys, today is October 14th. In Rus', this day was celebrated as a holiday; on this day, the Mother of God appeared in the temple in Constantinople and saved people from harm. The teacher shows the children the icon of the Intercession. Educator: From this day on, girls' get-togethers began. It was traditional to serve cabbage dishes. In the old days there was a saying: “Before the Intercession - autumn, after - winter will come.” What sayings and signs do you know? Children: Cover, cover the hut with warmth. October covers the ground, some with leaves and some with snow. The snow didn't fall until Intercession, don't expect it until December. Educator: Correct. On this holiday, the family's breadwinner was given the last sheaf of wheat. And you can guess who I’m talking about by guessing the riddle.
Educator: From that day on, the housewives no longer took the cow outside because it was getting cold. On Intercession, for the first time, the hut was heated, and for the first time, with apple wood, so that the heat remained in it. And so that we don’t freeze, I suggest we dance. Dance to the song N. Kadysheva “Give a birch tree.” Educator: The Feast of the Intercession coincided with the end of work in the field. Do you guys know how to harvest? Game “Harvest” - artificial vegetables and fruits are scattered around the hall. The guys are divided into two teams and collect the crops in baskets as quickly as possible. Educator: It's time to read out poems for the holiday.

Educator: Well, guys, our gatherings are over. And I want to treat everyone to cabbage pies. Children are invited to tea and cabbage pies.
