In 1940, in the US state of Washington, the Tacoma Narrows Bridge collapsed due to an error with wind loads. The only driver of the car that found itself on the bridge managed to leave the car and escape. The destruction process was filmed on 16mm Kodachrome color film. Based on the shooting, the documentary film “The Tacoma Narrows Bridge Collapse” was created, which subsequently made it possible to study the destruction process in detail. Dismantling of the pylons and side spans began soon after the accident and continued until May 1943. During the construction of the new bridge, anchor abutments, piers (bases) of pylons and some other components of the old bridge were used. The completely restored bridge was opened on October 14, 1950 and was at that time the third longest suspension bridge in the world (total length - 1822 m, length of the central span - 853 m).
In 1949, the first oil was produced at the Oil Rocks, the world's oldest offshore oil platform. This is the easternmost land point of Azerbaijan, an urban-type settlement in the Caspian Sea, 42 kilometers east of the Absheron Peninsula.
Day of the Righteous Tabitha
On November 7, all Orthodox Christians honor the memory of the righteous Tabitha. This righteous woman was glorified by her good deeds during her lifetime. Tafita always gave generous alms to the poor, and was also very hardworking and modest.
Tabitha lived in Joppa in the first century. The Orthodox righteous woman was distinguished by exceptional kindness and loved to do charity work. This woman met her death due to a terrible disease. The Apostle Peter was called to her to read a prayer over the deceased. But they did not know that the apostle would not only read the prayer, but also give everyone the opportunity to say goodbye to it.
History tells us that the Apostle Peter was in the city of Lydda at that time. Peter learned of Tafitha's death and abandoned all his affairs to go to Joppa. There the apostle found the house of the pious deceased, approached her body and asked everyone to leave the room. The apostle read the necessary prayer and spoke to the deceased. After the conversation, he asked her to stand up. Then a miracle happened: Tabitha opened her eyes and stood up. The Apostle Peter called all caring people who had gathered to say goodbye to the righteous woman at that hour, and showed them her alive.

On November 7, the Orthodox Church honors the memory of the martyrs Marcian and Martyrius. According to popular belief, from this day on the weather begins to change dramatically, it becomes very cold, and real winter is approaching.
Venerable Martyria, deacon, and Martyria the recluse, Pechersk
It is considered the day of remembrance of the Two Martyrs. The first, Deacon of Pechersk, had the gift of casting out demons and healing from illnesses. The second labored in the Kiev-Pechersk Monastery in the XIII-XIV centuries. The remains of the saints rest in the Far (Feodosiev) caves.
Venerable Martyrius, deacon of Pechersk, in the Far Caves (XIII-XIV). His holy name is remembered in the 7th song of the canon by the monk of the Far Caves. Here his hard work, righteousness and purity of heart are glorified, as well as the gift of casting out demons and healing ailments. The memory is also celebrated on August 28 and in the 2nd week of Lent.
Prayer for the repose of my wife
Christ Jesus, Lord and Almighty! In contrition and tenderness of my heart, I pray to You: rest, O Lord, the soul of Your departed servant (name), in Your Heavenly Kingdom. Lord Almighty! You blessed the marital union of husband and wife, when you said: it is not good for man to be alone, let us create for him a helper for him. You have sanctified this union in the image of the spiritual union of Christ with the Church. I believe, Lord, and confess that You have blessed me to unite me in this holy union with one of Your handmaids. By your good and wise will you deigned to take away from me this servant of yours, whom you have given to me as a helper and companion of my life. I bow before Your will, and I pray to You with all my heart, accept my prayer for Your servant (name), and forgive her if you sin in word, deed, thought, knowledge and ignorance; Love earthly things more than heavenly things; Even if you care more about the clothing and decoration of your body than about the enlightenment of the clothing of your soul; or even careless about your children; if you upset anyone by word or deed; If there is a grudge in your heart against your neighbor or condemn someone or anything else you have done from such evil people.
Forgive her all this, for she is good and philanthropic; for there is no man who will live and not sin. Do not enter into judgment with Thy servant, as Thy creation, do not condemn her to eternal torment for her sin, but have mercy and mercy according to Thy great mercy. I pray and ask You, Lord, to grant me strength throughout the days of my life, without ceasing to pray for Your departed servant, and even until the end of my life to ask her from You, the Judge of the whole world, to forgive her sins. Yes, as if You, God, placed a crown of stone on her head, crowning her here on earth; Thus crown me with Thy eternal glory in Thy Heavenly Kingdom, with all the saints who rejoice there, so that together with them He may forever sing Thy all-holy name with the Father and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Fedot Day is celebrated in the folk calendar
Since ancient times, people in Rus' have said that on November 7, not only women cry, but all nature cries. On this day we need to remember all the unfortunate and offended, and feel sorry for them. In addition, all those who died with a kind word or deed are worth it.
What not to do on this day
- In Rus', on this day, women are forbidden to cry into their pillows, as the feather remembers all the tears and will save troubles for a long time. And if someone else lies on the pillow, then the troubles will pass to him.
- People believe that you cannot eat bread on Fedot Day. If this long-standing ban is violated, then there will be no grain year.
Signs for November 7:
- If on this night, from the 6th to the 7th, the stars shone dimly, then you should wait for a stormy day.
- If you light a church candle early this morning and ask your deceased relatives to help, then very soon you will find a solution to your problem.
- People believed that on the seventh day of November it must rain or snow.
- If by this time there are a lot of leaves left on the trees, this means a frosty and very long winter.
- Has it snowed heavily? Towards a generous grain harvest.
- Windy and stormy weather today? The rest of the fall will be cold.
- Was there fog in the morning? The thaw will come soon.
- On this day did the crows sit on the lower branch of the tree? The weather will be windy in the coming days.
- You cannot eat bread on this day, otherwise the year will be difficult.
- If an orphan turns to his late mother for help on November 7, she will definitely help.
For centuries, there was a sign that merchants were not allowed to eat bread on this day, otherwise trade would not work out. Also, traders who sold grain were not allowed to change their place of trade on this day, otherwise they could frighten away their luck.
