There was St. Spyridon is both a Christian sage, and a minister of the Church, and a healer, and a defender of ordinary people. The entire life of St. Spyridon amazes with the amazing simplicity and power of bold prayer before the Lord. He showed himself to be an equally great miracle worker after his death, which followed around 348. Miracles accompanied the life of St. Spyridon, testifying about him Once during a famine, a poor man came to Saint Spyridon and cried, telling how he asked a rich man to borrow bread for his starving family, but he refused to give anything without money. At that time, a snake was crawling through the garden, and the saint touched it with his staff, turning it, in front of the astonished poor man, into an ingot of gold. He gave the gold to the starving man, telling him to buy it back from the rich man when there was a good harvest. Then the famine passed and there was such a bountiful harvest that the farmer more than paid the rich man for the borrowed bread and, having bought the gold, returned it to Saint Spyridon. The saint took the gold into the garden, and through his prayer the ingot again turned into a snake, which immediately slithered away. Saint Spyridon lived at the end of the 3rd - first half of the 4th centuries. from the Nativity of Christ in Greece. In Rus', the day of the saint's holiday was accompanied by numerous folk signs. It falls at the time of the winter solstice, when the shortest days and longest nights begin, but nature is already turning to the sun, and from this time the days begin to lengthen: “Solstice” or “turn of the sun for summer” (December 25, new style), coinciding with the memory of the saint, was called in Rus' “Spiridon’s turn”. “After Spiridon, even at a sparrow’s leap, let the day come.” In the old days, people used to guess about this day about the New Year: “If it is light on Spiridon, the New Year will be frosty and clear; if it’s gloomy and the trees are covered with frost, it will be warm and cloudy for the holiday.” The Cypriot Wonderworker was revered in Russia at the heights of Tsarist power. Thus, during the Kazan campaign on the road from Moscow, St. Spyridon of Trimifuntsky appeared to Tsar Ivan Vasilyevich the Terrible. The saint spiritually strengthened the Sovereign in His determination to defeat the adversaries and free the Kazan people from the Nogai usurpers. After the victory, on the site of the miraculous appearance, the Tsar, according to his vow, erected the Spiridonyevsky Monastery. This monastery has not survived to this day, but a worship cross was erected in its place. The father of the first Tsar of the Romanov family - Mikhail Feodorovich - the Great Sovereign and Lord, His Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus' Filaret (Feodor Nikitich Romanov) erected the Church of St. Spyridon in Moscow in his domain on the Goat Swamp, where the goats of the Patriarchal Court grazed. This temple was first mentioned in 1627; it was originally wooden. And in 1633–1637 a stone church was erected. This temple eventually gave its name to Spiridonovka Street and Spiridonievsky Lane. These names have survived to this day, but the temple was destroyed to the ground by the atheists. On December 12, 1777, on the day of remembrance of Saint Spyridon of Trimifuntsky, the first-born was born into the Family of the Heir to the Throne of Grand Duke Pavel Petrovich - Grand Duke Alexander Pavlovich - the beloved grandson and pupil of Empress Catherine the Great. In the Royal Family there was a custom of honoring as a heavenly patron not only the saint whose The name was given to the Royal Son, but also to the saint, on whose day the Most August Infant was born. So, for example, during the reign of Peter the Great, and even then in Russia, the Monk Isaac of Dalmatia was highly revered, on whose day Tsarevich Peter Alekseevich was born. That is why in St. Petersburg, in addition to the Cathedral of Peter and Paul, there was a cathedral church of St. Isaac of Dalmatia, which, in fact, became the cathedral in the capital's diocese. With the birth of Grand Duke Alexander Pavlovich, the feast of St. Spyridon began to be especially celebrated as the Royal Day. Especially many churches were built during the reign of Alexander I (1801–1825). The Trimifuntsky saint was, together with Saint Alexander Nevsky, his heavenly patron. Since that time, Russian churches have known the “shoes of St. Spyridon” (more often, however, parts of shoes), usually brought by noble persons from the island of Corfu, where the relics of the saint have been kept since the middle of the 15th century. The only church in Moscow consecrated in the name of St. Spyridon of Trimythous, until revolution stood on the street of the same name between Tverskoy Boulevard and the Garden Ring - it used to be called Spiridonyevskaya. During the crazy Soviet times, the temple was destroyed, and Spiridonyevskaya was renamed Alexey Tolstoy Street in 1945, since the “red count” lived here in his last years. The church stood on the corner of Spiridonovka and Bolshoy Spiridonyevsky Lane, where a bulky residential building of Stalinist architecture with bas-reliefs on the facade now stands (No. 24). In the old days, it was the main settlement church of the Patriarchal settlement on Kozikha. Now the historical name of the street has been returned. In Moscow, on Malaya Filevskaya Street a temple will be built in honor of St. Spyridon of Trimifuntsky. Currently there is a Parish Assembly of the Orthodox parish of the Church of St. Spyridon of Trimifuntsky in Fili-Davydkovo. By decree of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus' Alexy II, priest Ilya Kochurov, cleric of the Church of All Saints on the Filevskaya floodplain, was appointed rector of the temple under construction. On December 25, on the day of remembrance of St. Spyridon, a prayer service with an akathist to the saint was served at the site of the construction of the future church, at which residents of the Fili-Davydkovo microdistrict prayed. Prayers to Saint Spyridon, the Wonderworker of Trimifunt (Memory Day December 12-December 25) Prayer first O great and wonderful Saint of Christ and miracle worker Spyridon, Kerkyra praise, the whole universe, the brightest lamp, the warm prayer book to God and the speedy intercessor of all who come running to you and pray with faith ! You gloriously expounded the Orthodox faith at the Nicene Council among the Fathers, you showed the Unity of the Holy Trinity with miraculous power, and you completely put the heretics to shame. Hear us sinners, the saint of Christ, praying to you and through your strong intercession with the Lord, deliver us from every evil situation: from famine, flood, fire and deadly plagues. For in your temporal life you delivered your people from all these disasters: you saved your country from the invasion of the Hagarians and from famine, you delivered the king from an incurable illness and brought many sinners to repentance, you gloriously raised the dead, for the holiness of your life the Angels, invisibly in the church you had those singing and serving with you. Sitsa, then, glorify you, His faithful servant, Lord Christ, for you have the gift of understanding all the secret human deeds and convicting those who live unrighteously. You have diligently helped many who live in poverty and lack; you have nourished the poor people abundantly during famine, and you have created many other signs through the power of the living Spirit of God within you. Do not forsake us either, Saint of Christ, remember us, your children, at the Throne of the Almighty and beg the Lord to grant forgiveness of many of our sins, grant us a comfortable and peaceful life, a shameless and peaceful death, and eternal bliss in the future vouchsafes us, so that we may always send glory and thanksgiving to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Second prayer O all-blessed Saint Spyridon, great saint of Christ and glorious miracle worker! Stand in Heaven before the Throne of God with the face of an Angel, look with your merciful eye on the people standing here and asking for your strong help. Pray to the compassion of God, the Lover of Mankind, not to judge us for our iniquities, but to deal with us according to His mercy! Ask us from Christ and our God for a peaceful and serene life, mental and physical health, earthly prosperity and all abundance and prosperity in everything, and may we not turn the good things given to us from the generous God into evil, but into His glory and the glorification of your intercession! Deliver all who come to God through undoubted faith from all spiritual and physical troubles, from all yearnings and the devil’s slander! Be a comforter to the sad, a physician to the sick, a helper in times of adversity, a protector to the naked, a protector to widows, a protector to the orphans, a nourisher to the infant, a strengthener to the old, a guide to the wandering, a sailing helmsman, and intercede for all your mighty help that requires all that is useful for salvation! For yes, by your prayers we are instructed and observed, we will reach eternal rest and together with you we will glorify God, glorified in the Trinity of Saints, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

A brief history of the earthly and heavenly path of the saint
The modest layman Spyridon lived at the beginning of the 4th century, had a family and children, and tended sheep. For the inhabitants of the island of Cyprus, he was already an example of Christian love for one’s neighbor and a follower of the teachings of Christ. After the death of his wife, Spiridon devoted himself to serving the Almighty, was endowed with the gift of healing and exorcism, and subsequently headed the department as a bishop in the city of Trimifunt.
Icon of Spyridon of Trimifuntsky
The high position did not change the character of the saint. He helped people by opening granaries for needy residents, from where everyone took as much as he needed for food. A layman who was not taught to read and write became a bishop, he was given the wisdom of knowing the Scriptures. Occupying an honorary post, the former shepherd from time to time continued to engage in his former business.
Interesting! On icons of the miracle worker you can often see a shepherd’s cap on his head. The staff in the bishop's hand is a symbol of power and a shepherd's crook.
In the middle of the fourth century, the faithful follower of Jesus died, and for more than 17 centuries he has been giving his miracles to Christians who ask his relics and icons.
Important! December 25th is the patronal feast day of honoring the memory of St. Spyridon of Trimythous

Holy prosphora bowls Nicodemus and Spyridon, life
The saints were ordinary people, and their occupation was quite simple - baking prosphora, but they performed it with all-encompassing love for the Almighty and the brethren, and the expression of this love turned an ordinary occupation into spiritual service.
Spiridon
The Monk Spyridon of the Pechersk prosphora was a monk of the monastery. His memorial day is celebrated:
- October 11 (September 28th old style);
- November 13 (October 31st, old style).
The saint was born into a simple peasant family and was not taught to read and write, but he possessed the language of belief, and his wealth included virtues and deeds that would please the Almighty.
With the fear of the Lord and an ardent desire to achieve perfection simmering in his heart, he entered the Lavra, where at that time the rector was Pimen Postnikov (1132-1141) and at the same time he accepted the most severe asceticism. Having reached a fairly mature age, the monk began to master books on his own and was able to study the Psalter, so that he was able to sing all the psalms by heart.
The abbot of the monastery of the contemplator, out of good nature, piety and hard work, entrusted the righteous man with a godly and most holy act - making prosphoras for the celebration of the Eucharist. While kneading the dough and chopping wood, the saint focused entirely on thoughts about the Heavenly King, which was also facilitated by the constant recitation of psalms. Thus, by baking bread for the sacred offering, the saint himself offered the Son of God a sacrifice of praise that was pleasing to Him.
One day, when the righteous man was lighting the stove, a flame suddenly shot up and the floor was on fire. Then the monk covered the opening of the stove with his robe, then tied the sleeves of the cassock together, ran to the well and drew water with it, and then called on the brethren to help. The novices who came running to his cry discovered with amazement that the part of the robe that covered the stove mouth was not damaged in any way, and water did not pour out of the cassock, which made it possible to eliminate the fire without much difficulty. The efforts and prayers of the prosphora maker were heard by the Almighty, and he miraculously came to the aid of his faithful servant.
As a result of anthropological research, it was established that the saint passed away at the age of about 50-60 years, and his relics reside in the Near Caves;
Nicodemus
Nicodemus was also a novice of the monastery and he lived during the time of the clergyman Faster Pimen. The Day of Remembrance of the Righteous is celebrated:
- October 11 (September, 28th old style);
- November 13 (October 31, old style).
Prosforniks Spiridon and Nikodim did the same job together. The saint was the saint's assistant and was his adherent not only in obedience, but also in spiritual labors.
According to the surviving legend of the monastery, he worked in the church bakery for about 30 years, making prosphora throughout this period. The date of the saint’s death has not been established for certain, however, according to some scriptures, it can be stated that the righteous man reposed in old age, approximately in 1139. His sacred relics are also located in the Near Caves.
It is worth noting that in most cases, in miraculous images, the saints are depicted together, standing next to each other and holding baked prosphora in their hands or on a platter.

I learned about St. Spyridon of Trimifunt in November 2013. The church elder advised me to read the akathist for 40 days so that I could be repaid a debt that had not been repaid for a year. The saint showed himself in my life in 2015, by which time I had moved to another city with my family
Things weren't going well, we moved, our investments were unsuccessful. . By chance, although there are no coincidences, I began to come across the name, information, programs about St. Spyridon of Trimythous
This is an amazing saint! I have never had such faith. From my own experience I became convinced of the power of prayer, the patronage of the saint and intercession before God. Things began to improve on their own, I felt the presence of the saint in my life - and the hand of God
By chance, although there are no accidents, I began to come across the name, information, and programs about St. Spyridon of Trimythous. This is an amazing saint! I have never had such faith. From my own experience I became convinced of the power of prayer, the patronage of the saint and intercession before God. Things began to improve on their own, I felt the presence of the saint in my life - and the hand of God.
I have never felt so close to the spiritual world while praying before. I myself could neither plan nor carry out what was planned in the same way as the Holy Spirit acted in my life through the prayer of the saint. I want to tell you about the facts of help.
1. My son passed his school exams well in the GIA in mathematics, half the class got a bad mark. My son scored a C - it's a miracle! 2. My son applied for admission to college. I called and they said that we didn’t pass the budget score and would have to write an application for admission on a commercial basis. 40,000 had to be paid for a year of study. The next day we came to college to write this application, but, to our surprise, we found ourselves on the list of state employees. It turns out that the previous day two applicants took the documents, and my son automatically got into the budget.
3. With God’s help, I quit smoking easily (from a pack a day), as if it had never happened in my life. She confessed her sin and quit. Also with alcohol. 4. I wanted to buy an existing business, and I negotiated by phone for two weeks. On the day of the transaction, I went with the money at the agreed time, the seller did not get in touch, and then refused even to communicate by phone. The deal fell through, and over time the deception was discovered. 5. My husband got a job, although the salary is small, but in a field where he has 15 years of experience and is competitive. 6. In June I took tests for a tumor marker, the doctor was in a panic and insisted on an immediate examination. As a result, I ended up seeing a competent oncologist. This can only be called a miracle: without a recommendation, I myself came to the best specialist in this field, he himself was surprised how I could do it: people are looking for him, and I made an appointment with him, as if I knew.
At the initial examination, the possibility of surgery was suggested, I underwent a complete examination, and it was discovered that I was healthier than the average person of my age. I brought the results to the local doctor, she could hardly believe it. My husband and I went to church every morning before work, prayed, venerated the icon of the saint, drank holy water and went to work. Attended church services and a water prayer service.
I don’t give up prayer, I maintain consistency. Now I read an akathist to St. Spyridon of Trimythous once a week in gratitude!
