About Orthodox “fashion” and more... Let’s speculate

Most girls who have visited an Orthodox church more than once know that a woman here should have her head covered and dressed rather modestly - in a dress or skirt with a blouse.
At the same time, many religious women set a bad example and dress carelessly. As a result, many people have a bad impression of the church, as if only problematic people with oddities, devoid of an understanding of beauty and even culture, gather there. Church is not a place for squalor; we should strive not for ostentatious modesty, but for spiritual growth and purification. Therefore, there is no need to wear a black dress or floor-length skirt. Such formal clothing is suitable for nuns and Muslim women. For ordinary women in the Orthodox Church there is a lot of freedom.

As the Apostle Paul says, everything is permissible for me, but not everything is beneficial. Having reached a certain level of spiritual purity, you can wear even the most revealing transparent clothes, and they will not harm your spiritual life. But we refuse to wear excessively revealing clothing because we should not tempt or distract other parishioners in the temple.

Rules

A wedding ceremony is not a fashion show where you need to sparkle with luxury and show your outer beauty, but a mysterious union of the souls and lives of a young couple. Therefore, it would be most appropriate to wear a simple, modest attire:

  • immediately exclude a bright color palette from the image
  • Knees should not be visible from under the hem
  • Cutouts, bare arms and shoulders and an abundance of jewelry are unacceptable
  • Do not take additional accessories with you in the form of handbags
  • the head must be covered with something

And now let’s take a closer look at what you shouldn’t wear to a wedding.

Color

It should be noted that multi-colored bright colors, such as purple, blue or other colors, are simply unacceptable for such a celebration. Father simply does not accept this. It is also worth excluding dark colors. When purchasing, give preference to white or pastel colors.

A simple sky blue dress, as shown in the photo, which personifies the purity of the soul, would also be an excellent option. This color goes well with blonde hair of girls. Women also like to choose cream and pinkish shades.

Everything about red is very confusing, since on the one hand it is very aggressive and extravagant, but on the other hand, this is exactly what a wedding sundress was like several centuries ago. In this case, it is best to ask the priest if he will approve of this color.

Length

There are very strict rules about length, so a short skirt above the knees is simply not acceptable for church. In such an outfit you may simply not be allowed into a holy place.
Midi length models and floor-length maxi variations are welcome. It is more convenient to wear models whose length rises 2-4 cm above the floor. After all, in this situation, you definitely won’t step on the hem. And in principle, moving around will become much more comfortable.

Style

In fact, everything is simpler with the style, since the main thing is minimalism and modesty. No need for provocative cutouts, flashy trim or bare arms. For wedding attire, brides prefer straight, flowing models that demonstrate the modesty of the soul through appearance.

Curvy models

Many people dream of the fluffy dresses they saw in fairy tales about princesses. But, firstly, it is better to save this dress for a wedding, and secondly, it is not suitable for everyone. For example, overweight girls will only emphasize their shortcomings, while short girls may simply get lost in the abundance of fabrics and decorations. And the temple is not the place where you should show off like on a podium. It is better to choose a calmer and more versatile A-line silhouette.

A-line

The product is suitable for absolutely everyone. It visually makes you look slimmer and taller. As is already clear from the name, the cut resembles the letter A, that is, it widens downwards. Lace looks very good with an A-line silhouette.

With a train

The options with a train are amazingly beautiful. Luxury and elegance are the main companions of this model, which is why this style can often be seen on royal brides. However, you need to be very careful with the train, because it can become a nuisance to everyone standing behind you. And also if you are getting married in an Orthodox church, then this may be inappropriate in this situation. Since the train is an attribute of Catholics.

Dress transformer

An interesting choice of outfit for a celebration would be a transformable dress. Thanks to this wardrobe item, you can save a lot of money. Since this dress can be used both in the temple to dress the bride, and for a wedding celebration in some restaurant. And if the transformer is in a fairly discreet style, then it can be useful in everyday life.

"Fish" or "Mermaid"

“Rusalka” and “Fish” are, one might say, in limbo in the fashion world. Either they become popular all over the world, or they are quickly forgotten. And all because of their features. Very narrow on top and widening from the knees to the floor, they emphasize all the imperfections of the figure. You should also be careful when choosing such a wedding dress for your wedding. Some priests may not approve of it due to excessive vulgarity.

Empire style

Empire style is a universal style that will never become outdated in the fashion world. Elegant, but at the same time modest attire looks great on almost any figure. Only extra pounds around the waist can spoil the appearance a little. And guests may think that the reason for the wedding was a sudden pregnancy. To avoid such rumors, you can throw a large stole over the top.

Accessories

The head must be covered with some kind of scarf, veil or stole. This is a mandatory condition for all girls who are in the temple. Also refrain from unnecessary accessories, such as metal bracelets or decorative rings, during the church ceremony. The maximum that is allowed for an image is jewelry made from natural materials, such as wood. However, they should be very elegant and inconspicuous and not spoil the appearance.

Materials

Be very careful when choosing fabrics for wedding clothes, as too much pomp can simply lead to a terrible situation. Don't forget that there are a lot of candles in the church. Excellent materials for the product would be chiffon, silk, satin and velvet.

Shoes

This is not a rule, but just advice. You will have to stand in one place for a very long time, which means practical, comfortable shoes will be just right. No need to suffer in heels.

Makeup

It is advisable that the girl should not wear makeup or should avoid bright colors in her makeup. A prerequisite for this type of makeup is not painted lips. Since you will need to kiss the crucifix of Jesus Christ and the image, and the remaining lipstick mark will definitely not please anyone.

Hairstyle

Since the hair will be covered with a headdress, it is best not to do voluminous hairstyles. Natural curls with fresh flowers woven into them look very impressive in combination with a simple dress style.

Women's Orthodox clothing - what to wear to church

Usually, when the phrase “believing woman” is used, an image of a tortured, pale woman in a robe and a dark scarf appears; her appearance exudes gloom and gloominess. But believing in the Lord does not mean depriving yourself of the joys of life.

Orthodoxy brings light and joy. Therefore, the opinion about how a woman who attends church should dress is often erroneous. A woman should always look attractive. This applies to both clothing chosen for worldly life and clothing intended for going to church.

Character traits

Clothes in Orthodoxy are divided into several conventional types: for visiting a temple, for pilgrimage trips, for work and for holidays. These varieties share common features.

Orthodox clothing has characteristic features. Things, first of all, should not be provocative, bright, vulgar, or sexual, as this discredits the dignity of a believing woman. Choose models in soothing colors that are age appropriate. Also, clothing should take into account your body type, not be too tight and not cause discomfort.

Under no circumstances should Orthodox clothing for women evoke thoughts of a sexual nature on the part of the male sex. Therefore, it is unacceptable to wear skirts and dresses above the knees. As a rule, people wear a smart light suit to church.

Colors and symbols

For the church, each color has a specific meaning. This also applies to the wardrobe, especially women's scarves. To ensure that the chosen shade matches the church symbols, familiarize yourself with the meaning of the colors.

  • White has become a symbol of the Divine color not made by hands.
  • Red (the color of blood) is a symbol of love for Christ and all humanity.
  • Gold and yellow tones symbolize the glory of the Lord.
  • Green options speak of eternal youth and life, personifying birth.
  • Blue elements mean the purity and chastity of the Mother of God.
  • Purple color in church meaning is suffering, in particular of Christ for the human race.
  • Black, a color that expresses grief, is also worn during days of mourning.

Things of different colors, with flowers or polka dots, are intended for work and cleaning. If Orthodox Christians honor the traditions of the church, they choose robes of appropriate colors for services, but this is not necessary.

How to dress for temple

Clothes for the temple must be special and comply with established rules. This is especially true for women. She must enter the church only with her head covered.

A skirt or dress should be no longer than the knees; maxi models are preferred. Now you can pick up a lot of beautiful things that won’t spoil your appearance.

Please note that there are no cutouts or slits. It is also not recommended to wear women's jeans and pants. By wearing trousers, a woman likens herself to a man, and this is unacceptable.

Opt for a monochromatic wardrobe. You can choose a specific color based on symbolism, depending on the purpose of visiting the temple.

Remember that clothes must be clean. Even in Ancient Rus', people wore their best, festive clothes to church.

Fashion brands

Few people know that religious fashion exists. The Orthodox wardrobe also corresponds to certain fashion trends. The goal is to emphasize the modesty and purity of the fair half of humanity.

The basic rule: no trousers and a closed style, that is, no neckline, cutouts, or slits. The fabric chosen is opaque and plain. The image turns out to be modest, but stylish, emphasizing individuality.

Online stores are becoming popular. For example, “Miryanka” offers decent dresses. The models have a unique style that any secular fashionista will envy.

“The Peasant Young Lady” is also in demand. The manufacturer presents a series of outfits in which a religious woman is not ashamed to appear in public.

The 12 Holidays store produces modest clothing. The brand has reasonable prices.

How to choose clothes

When making up your wardrobe, remember that things should be chaste, not discredit one’s dignity, and therefore be modest. Clothes should be women's, that is, trousers should be avoided.

The length of the skirt or dress is no higher than the knees, and the waist cannot be low. The chest remains covered, avoid deep necklines.

Shoes with closed toes and low toes are preferable. Pay attention to your headdress. Now special scarves are on sale that do not fall off even during bows. Ideal when visiting a temple.

It is recommended to choose things in soft, muted shades. Clothes should not seduce the opposite sex.

Folk signs

Such a spiritual and sacred moment in the life of every person, of course, is fraught with many signs. True, now they are usually observed only by believers:

  • Wedding clothes should be new. Only one or two fittings are allowed upon purchase.
  • Some of the decor should be given to you by someone close to you. This could be a ribbon or thread. It is this piece from another person that will allow you, in the event of trouble, to ask him for help.
  • Wedding clothes should be only yours, which means no one should put them on or touch them except you. Otherwise, happiness will be divided among everyone who wore it.
  • The stronger the material, the closer the relationship between the bride and her mother-in-law will be.
  • You cannot choose models with a detachable top or bottom.
  • The groom should not see the bride before the ceremony

Wedding of a married couple

If you ask: “Is it possible for a married couple to get married?” Then, of course, the answer to this will be “Yes”. It doesn’t matter what age the couple is, married or not. Anyone can perform a ceremony in a church.

But there are still some differences in the celebration. For example, a woman and a man wear less formal clothing than newlyweds. Therefore, a wife can take an old wedding dress for a wedding, and there will be nothing shameful or bad about it. The husband, according to custom, dresses either in a suit or a light shirt and trousers.

Pregnant

Just like being married at the time of the wedding, pregnancy will not become an obstacle to the celebration. But the difficulty lies in choosing a wedding dress, especially if these are the last months of pregnancy.

An important detail is that pregnant women should not wear a white wedding dress. Since white is the color denoting the bride’s virginity.

Materials for a wedding dress need stretch for greater comfort. If this is an early period, then the tummy can be completely hidden with empire or high-waisted styles.

Full

Sometimes it is very difficult to choose the right outfit for such a non-standard physique. However, there are models that will not only almost completely hide your shortcomings, but also emphasize your advantages.

Look in the store catalog for A-line models, universal Greek or empire style. With an hourglass figure, mermaid dresses look very interesting. Also a very important element are the sleeves, which should not be voluminous, because they will only make you look fat.

Drapery, folds and other similar decor will only make the image heavier. Choose wedding dress materials for plus size people that are less shiny and without lace.

Orthodox clothing for women believers – All current news

Orthodoxy is considered the most widespread world religion. And, although the rules for women among Orthodox Christians are not as strict as those of Muslims, religious women should still appear discreet and dignified.

Clothes for Orthodox women have always not only looked restrained, but also been practical. Simple styles should emphasize female beauty, but not make the girl’s image too accessible.

Despite the fact that Orthodox clothing should be discreet, this does not mean that all religious women look like nuns. Such clothing should also suit the girl’s social status, age and appearance. A long velvet dress that will only make you look older will look bad on a young and attractive girl. And shortened skirts will look ridiculous on a mature lady.

For holidays, Orthodox women choose more elegant dresses. They can be complemented with colored patterns or sewn from high-quality fabrics - velvet or brocade.

For church ministers

Modern outfits for the archbishop and other church ministers should also not look like they came to us from the Middle Ages. Church staff agree that neglecting appearance gives them a bad reputation and causes negative public reactions.

For an older woman

It is increasingly happening that women are getting married after thirty or more. And there is nothing wrong with this; on the contrary, such a conscious marriage, a union, will most likely be much stronger than fleeting early love. However, for such weddings there are some features in wedding clothing:

  • A modest wedding dress should not be white. This color can highlight what you would like to hide. Therefore, it is better to give preference to golden or cream shades.
  • Choose options with a cape or bolero to hide imperfections behind the fabric.
  • It is better to wear comfortable shoes than elegant ones.
  • The image should be elegant and simple. Leave fluffy skirts and ruffles and bows to twenty-year-old girls

What should you not wear to church?

In many churches, no comments are made about clothing, but short skirts, shorts, trousers, tight dresses, sundresses with straps, as well as transparent blouses, deep necklines and other nudity are not compatible with spiritual life.
And if you go to your church like this, and no one reprimands you, then this is only explained by the delicacy and restraint of the clergy. However, we will assume that you now already know how to dress for church. But don't worry about your church attire being boring and drab. He can be stylish and at the same time modest. Think about your clothing style in advance, and designers will help with this.

Orthodox women should dress with dignity and elegance. To be seen, you do not need to be naked; clothes will emphasize both your natural beauty and the degree of upbringing and taste.

On great holidays, Easter, Trinity, Christmas and others, you can allow brighter clothes. This was the case in Rus' in ancient times, when women dressed up on these days, feeling the joy and beauty of the world.

Choose “your” dress

There are several ways to choose clothes for any occasion. For example, you can rent a dress, in a salon or have it made to order, or maybe you just choose a single option for the entire celebration (both for the wedding and for the wedding). And, of course, everything has its pros and cons.

For example, rental will cost you much less than a full purchase, and you don’t need to worry about finding storage space, since you will need to give it back after the ceremony. However, not every salon can offer the dress for a church wedding that is right for you. And many people don’t like the fact that it is already worn.

If you choose the option with a salon, then, firstly, it is very tedious - after all, how many stores will you have to go around, and secondly, there is no guarantee that you will even find that very option. But he will forever remain with you with all the emotions and memories you experienced.

And the last thing is custom tailoring. Very expensive, but definitely worth it. After all, it will be only yours, no one will wear it before or after the celebration except the hostess.

What should a dress be like for an Orthodox church? What clothes are best to choose in order to fit harmoniously into the environment of Christian believers and not feel reproachful glances on your back. Church traditions should be respected. Therefore, if you want to look like a decent Christian, you should wear a “Christian” dress in order to prepare for standing in prayer before the Almighty Heavenly Father.

How to dress for an Orthodox church as a woman

  • Clothes should be modest and closed.
  • Clean.
  • The length of the skirt or dress is below the knee.
  • It is advisable to avoid bright colors and cuts.
  • The fabric should be opaque.
  • Try to avoid flashy prints on clothes.
  • A deep neckline and open shoulders are unnecessary.
  • Maintain chastity in thoughts and dress.
  • Remember also the importance of covering a woman’s head with a scarf.
  • It is advisable to come without makeup.
  • A woman should not visit the temple during the period of purification.

You can dress neatly and beautifully at the same time.

Beautiful, elegant dresses and floor-length skirts have returned to fashion, which will allow a believing Christian young lady to choose attractive and modest clothes for visiting an Orthodox church.

It is important to dress in such a way as not to distract other parishioners from prayer and not to awaken passionate thoughts in anyone.

If you didn’t go to the temple purposefully, but were in a hurry around the city on business and decided to go to the temple to offer your prayers, then wearing trousers will not be able to hinder you in this noble cause.

Feel free to come in. In the small corridor, put on skirts and scarves specially prepared for these occasions and go to prayer.

Previously, peasants went to the temple as if on a holiday, trying to wear their most beautiful clothes.

After all, they were in a hurry to meet the Heavenly Father Himself.

Fashion or style?

For those who are Orthodox, the Nativity fast will begin along with the first winter month. At this time, it is common to think about beauty not only physical, but also spiritual. If you don’t put your thoughts in order, no amount of external beauty will save you. Therefore, you should definitely visit the temple, many do so.

Since ancient times, when people went to church, they wore their best dress. Nowadays this is no exception.

You just need to remember that when going to a church service or just to pray, clothing must be appropriate. It should not only be clean and festive, but also strict.

I want to dress not only beautifully, but also fashionably. The question arises: does Orthodox fashion exist at all? Fashion trends change every season. And here there are not many questions: what to wear. Rather, it is not fashion, but style.

Another question may arise: is Orthodox fashion necessary? In our modern age, it is simply necessary to know the rules by which outfits are selected for work, sports, leisure and, of course, for church.

Otherwise, many people say that they are deeply religious people, but at the same time they wear clothes that are not appropriate for believers.

The color of clothing practically does not matter, but the length of skirts should preferably be below the knee. It is not at all necessary to wipe the floor with the hem of your skirt, but mini-skirts are also not allowed. Under no circumstances should you visit the temple in pants or trousers.

Those who often attend religious services will always have an outfit designed just for this. Do not forget that you should cover your head with a scarf.

To do this, you can take a light silk scarf or buy a special lace scarf for the temple.

Designers could not stay away from this topic and offer girls outfits. Unfortunately, there are practically no Orthodox fashion houses. Despite this, there are fashion designers who are engaged in developing outfits for women who adhere to Orthodox traditions. In principle, clothing should always be correct so that you can enter the temple at any time.

Orthodox fashion is not a special fashion, intended for a certain segment of the population, but precisely the kind of clothing that everyone can and should wear.

It is practically no different from strict classic outfits, which we have nothing against. Orthodoxy enters our lives and therefore we need to have an idea of how to dress.

Good sets can be created from skirts, both dark and bright, saturated colors and light blouses. Sundresses with turtlenecks and shirts will look great. Dresses with white collars or outfits with embroidered flowers. Checkered fabrics are in fashion now. Dresses in any checkered pattern and any color will fit perfectly into the wardrobe of an Orthodox woman.

Fashion designers are working on this problem. Shows of the first outfits for girls and women have already been organized. For each Orthodox holiday, a certain color was chosen for the outfits, in accordance with traditions. It’s difficult to change something in a style that has been established for centuries, but that’s why they are designers, to create something new.

You can dress beautifully and modestly so as not to provoke men into lustful, crafty thoughts. See photos of elegant outfits.

The Orthodox Church is a support for the soul

What a blessing that there is an Orthodox church. Prayer helps in many sorrows and provides consolation and support even in the most seemingly hopeless situations.

They used to say: “Like anxiety, so does God.” And they did the right thing...

And now, as soon as possible, just run to the bottle as quickly as possible...

Joy? A great excuse to have a drink. Sadness? Hurry up for a bottle! And as a result, nothing good comes out of it. How much grief and troubles this desire to communicate with alcohol in any of its manifestations and for any reason causes.

As they say, whoever wants will find an opportunity. There would be a desire.

Zhdanov rings all the bells and talks about the terrible consequences of this vice, which has been elevated to the rank of the norm in modern society and is passed off as an everyday occurrence.

Families are destroyed, children suffer, people cry, but continue to drink this poison for soul and body. Like in the joke about hedgehogs, in which they ate a cactus, cried, injected themselves and continued to eat it.

By the way, have you noticed how rude modern speech has become? Eat a cactus, as the original says. Not only young people, but also adults express themselves rudely and obscenely, and this degeneration of human thought and speech is presented as the norm.

If a person begins to speak beautifully and express himself competently, they already look at him with bewilderment, what are you pretending to be? Be simpler. Simpler thoughts, simpler life, simpler vision of yourself. Drink a bottle or two and you will become your own.

Bad communities destroy good morals. Corruption of youth occurs at every step.

All this has become commonplace. This is the norm...

Great people went to temple

Previously, even great people went to church on weekends. They strove for high Truth, thought about philosophical freedoms, about the meaning of human existence, about what is truly good and what is bad.

I remember how I was surprised to read an article by the great Mikhail Mikhailovich Speransky about the miracle of the Jesus Prayer. About how to create it correctly and practice this secret so that the soul is filled with light.

In history lessons they told us about this amazing man. Lermontov, Pushkin, Einstein, Mendeleev and other geniuses went to church and thought deeply about the ontological meaning of existence.

The kings also understood that there was a Higher power over them and that they would give an account for everything. Now…

Now this topic is considered not fashionable...

Fortunately, of course, a lot depends on your social circles. However, as one philosopher put it, the worst are always in the majority.

Good, decent people live quietly and do not attract much attention to themselves, while garbage always dangles on the surface and screams about itself.

Sometimes you ride on a bus and are saddened to see beautiful young girls or guys bragging about drunken parties, what a great time they had and how obscenely they behaved.

Coordinates, goals and values are lost. Without a king in his head, as they used to say about such people in the old days.

The soul is the King in the head. Now we are talking only about the body, about the 5th point of a person. Notice how the word “love” has been squeezed out of everyday life, as well as words such as “passion, tenderness, romanticism, admiration, adoration, admiration, courtship” and so on.

It’s strange and ridiculous to see how people think that sleeping with a friend is normal, but falling in love or admitting your feelings is a reason for shame and ridicule.

Even animals choose their partners carefully.

The dry word “sex” has replaced all the expressions: night of love, beautiful romance, snuggle, love, bask, drag, have an affair. After all, these expressions speak about feelings!

And not only about the interaction of human bodies...

Tenderness, admiration, joy, happiness, longing for love, the desire to unite the soul and heart with a loved one in a family union, these concepts seem to be erased by something merciless eraser. Concepts are simplified, leveled and emasculated.

The word rules the world. We see the world through the prism of words. If the speech patterns in people’s minds are primitive and rude, vulgar, then life will be the same.

Especially for beautiful girls who are just entering life and seeing fashion in clothes, fashion in words and behavior, where can they get the right model for behavior if micro - and macro - society dictates its own conditions and rules of behavior?

Do you want to be a cool chick? Do this! Youth fashion tells how to be cool and how to be a loser.

Where did these strange, abnormal, alien words come into our lexicon?!

Why not the usual ones: a weak person, a strong person, smart or stupid. beautiful or ugly. Who is introducing these strange foreign words into the minds and speeches of young people? What kind of stubs of words are these: funny, cool, cool, sucker, think about it, fucking and so on….

Is the reptilian government putting its paw into consciousness again? Do they sit and create rude speeches, templates of rotten vocabulary in order to darken people’s consciousness?

Zadornov is correct in saying how and when, on what basis did the whole country suddenly begin to broadcast in the shameful language of the dregs of society, in the language of prisoners? Who benefits from this?

If you think about how many beautiful words have now fallen out of use: nobility, curiosity, complacency, noble, splendid. Perhaps several more generations will pass and descendants will no longer be able to understand what these words mean.

Nowadays, young people have difficulty understanding what is being said in church prayer books...

There are many questions..

But the essence is one...

It turns out, no matter what you call it, no matter which way you look at it, the whole church is right: there is good and evil, light and darkness.

No matter what you call the harmful creatures, their essence is the same - evil spirits. From which you need to protect yourself and save yourself. It’s not for nothing that they ask in prayer: “Save and preserve.”

This is what the amazing holy elder Paisius Svyatogorets says about the meaning of life:

Prayer is consolation for the soul and joy

It is in prayer that one can receive such consolation and joy that a person cannot find in anything else in this vain world, in the midst of many sorrows and trials.

If reality, so radiant, did not respond to us, we would not be able to receive help so irresistible. As soon as the High Society visits the soul, everything is transformed. And even the most modest room is transformed and becomes an amazing place of the presence of grace.

Prayer is an amazing miracle. What a blessing that there are saints who come, help and answer us. There is a huge amount of evidence about help from above. The world will not be abandoned, will not be rejected by the Higher Light. Help is always close and this makes the heart happy.

It is better to go to an Orthodox church, even if it is not fashionable for most people. They see this as a kind of outdated atavism. The communists destroyed a powerful support for the people. Now, it seems, everything has been returned, but how can we return that centuries-old layer of Russian Orthodox culture that existed? All that was left of him were his horns and his legs, like the poor goat about which the song is sung.

Of course, priests are poor sinners like the rest of us, who are simply trying to serve as best they can, thanks to them for their work.

As Andrei Kuraev says in response to the attacks on the address of the clergy: “The postman can be anyone, as long as he does not correct the telegram.”

Let us go to church, wearing not only the appropriate formal dress for this, but also dressing our souls in humility and meekness!

Save your souls, ladies and gentlemen!

Beautiful dresses for Orthodox Christians

No pants, even the best ones, can compare with the beauty and charm of a woman’s image in a dress! The dress has the wonderful property of concealing and covering the weak points of the female body and emphasizing its special tenderness and attractiveness to the male gaze.

Look what beautiful and modest outfits the girls from the Orthodox dress store “Young Lady-Peasant” designed!

It’s good that among the dominance of outfits in which it’s only appropriate to go to a panel, there are stores that create models of dresses for girls who want to look decent and beautiful at the same time.

So, an Orthodox Christian woman does not have to look sad, like a gray mouse.

Look at what other clothes believers wear:

Nun dress, what is it like?

New collection of Islamic evening dresses

Whether you agree with this video or not, there is definitely something to think about. Sad…

Substitution of 5000 Slavic words in the Bible during the Nikon reform [Rewritten Vedas]

How was everything powerfully remade, where to find the truth, what is it, this unknown Truth? How difficult it is to figure everything out, and is it even possible to figure it out if there is no reliable information? Where there are no facts, myths are born, there are so many myths all around in various spheres of life, wherever you look, there are only inventions and fables of old wives.

Where is she, really? What is she wearing?

It seems that the internal connection of a person with the Almighty is one thing, but the religious structure is completely different. Why does reading Orthodox books and the lives of saints only repel Orthodox Christianity and not attract? Maybe it’s true, because all reliable sources have been rewritten many times and it’s no longer clear where the lie is and where the truth is...

Andrey Kuraev-Did the Church correct the Bible? (Part 2)

If they were able to make 3 inserts and such an honest person as Kuraev knows about it, where is the guarantee that there were no other inserts that were convenient for them according to some criteria. Eh, our sins are grave...

Tips for choosing a dress

Nowadays it is very difficult to choose from the entire mass of assortment the dress that will warm your soul, even when it lies in the closet, in a box. So here are some tips to help you:

  • You can buy a simple, inexpensive dress, and then add some decorations to it yourself or in a studio, for example, lace or satin ribbons.
  • Don’t think that clothes bought for a wedding are disposable. You can make a choice towards practicality, thanks to which the garment will later be suitable for everyday wear, as shown in the photo.
  • If the celebration is scheduled for the summer, then the material of the clothing should be light. Cotton and linen are ideal fabrics for a hot day. Great summer colors include soft mint or light green and sky blue.
  • For winter, choose practical, dense materials such as velvet or drape. You can also use various capes and boleros for insulation. And all because the temples are quite cool in winter.
  • Orthodox wedding dresses should be mostly simple and comfortable. Try to convey the state of your soul through it, since in church you will appear before God and his assistants.
  • Experiment with decoration. Modest does not mean ugly!

Pay attention to even minor details that can ruin the image. Also, do not forget that the groom’s suit must match the bride, either in color and style, or in some decorative item.

About Orthodox “fashion” and more... Let’s speculate

One day we started talking about Orthodox fashion... here are my thoughts.

In recent years, many people have developed a very definite idea about Orthodox Christians and Orthodoxy. This attitude can be expressed in such words as closed-mindedness, rigidity, archaism, lack of freedom.

In other words, for many, Orthodoxy is a relic of the past. Let’s leave the doctrinal and moral side aside, it’s not all that simple. As for appearance, clothing style, and norms of behavior, bewilderment towards some Orthodox Christians sounds quite justified.

Unattractive, sometimes awkward clothing in dark, gloomy tones, untidiness, sometimes even to the point of neglect of personal hygiene - all this is seen and noticed by the people around you. It is not surprising that many have the opinion that Orthodoxy prescribes for Christians such a deliberate opposition to the surrounding culture, as well as an “unmodern,” to put it mildly, style of clothing. I will try to present my thoughts on this topic.

About Orthodoxy and culture

There was a period in the history of Christianity when the question of the relationship to the surrounding culture was very acute. This is the time of the first two centuries after the death and resurrection of Christ. Christianity came to the Roman Empire from Jewish communities, which were characterized by a rather rigid opposition to the surrounding world and culture. A clear national identity, a centuries-honed way of life, a culture of behavior and clothing were characteristic of the Judaism of those times. Even the apostles faced the problem of being rejected by their fellow tribesmen for being “liberal” in their relations with pagans and Greco-Roman culture.

Ultimately, Christianity found itself at a crossroads, and the question arose about choosing one of two paths. The first is the creation of your own specific culture, the creation of your own “oasis”. This is the path of neglect, rejection of the world that surrounded Christians, the world where they lived, but with which they wanted nothing to do. Many in those days proposed to follow this path, proposed to renounce not only idols, but also everything that came before: from the state to family life.

But there were others too. They called for, if possible, to comprehend, accept and enrich the experience of Christianity with everything good and kind in the world around us. There is no need to create your own “ghetto”, there is no need to waste energy on war with the world, on defense. We need to carefully study the world and find in culture, in everyday life, even in religious rituals, something that is consonant with Christianity, through which we can express the gospel message and glorify Christ.

Essentially, the second way can be represented this way. Christianity is called upon to be yeast that ferments existing water and flour and forms something independent, original - “living” dough. Time has shown that Christianity has taken this second path. It managed not only to put into its service all the good that Greco-Roman civilization could give, but also to build on this foundation a majestic edifice of Christian European and Russian culture.

On the Christian attitude to clothing

The Bible tells us that God knows people “in essence.” No amount of clothing changes anything in His attitude towards people. But human communication is built according to different laws; they are based on the impossibility of fully understanding another person, the mystery of misunderstanding. Therefore, clothes are always a sign for people, an opportunity to learn something about another, even before this other speaks.

People from a Christian point of view are complex beings. The body is no less important for Christians than the soul. Appearance quite rightly plays a huge role in communication and understanding between people. Therefore, Christianity never called for neglecting one’s appearance and physical health, it only called for assessing them from an evangelical point of view.

The famous Christian writer of the second century, Clement of Alexandria, brilliantly knew the literature, art, and customs of his time and taught Christians to follow the best examples. Clement found examples of moral and even sacrificial behavior in ancient poetry and said that if pagans are able to live like this, then Christians should live better. “The pagans do not have Christ,” he reminded, “and much is forgiven for them, but we believe that we are saved by the Lord, and therefore called to perfection.”

Clement of Alexandria provided readers with descriptions of clothing and referred to the best examples of his time, which did not contradict Christian morality. He called on Christians to follow these models and even improve them, in order to show Christ through this. For example, he suggested wearing only light or white clothes, refusing bright and painted fabrics (as well as gloomy and dull ones).

Clement of Alexandria wrote a lot about jewelry, hairstyles, and even rings. In those days, rings had a practical function; they were seals that were placed instead of a signature. Without rejecting the rings, Clement drew attention to the symbols depicted and called for the abandonment of images unworthy of a Christian: weapons, naked bodies, cups of wine. Instead, he proposed, for example, the symbol of a fish, since in Greek the spelling of the word “fish” coincides with the first letters of the phrase: “Jesus Christ God.”

Throughout the history of the Church, followers of Christ, in their attitude to clothing, proceed from two criteria: moral and aesthetic. Otherwise, everything is given to local traditions.

Morality, of course, is determined by gospel norms, the main one of which is “do not tempt.” You can seduce in many ways: not only by excessively revealing clothes, too rich decoration, but also by deliberate hypocritical “modesty” or even sloppiness too. Apparently, you need to dress in such a way as to correspond to your human dignity and position in society.

Aesthetic appreciation, of course, stems from the general principles of beauty of the culture and area where specific Christians lived or live. The followers of Christ in the old days sought to set an example in everything, to be worthy of the title of Christians in everything. They believed that they were called to live in society in such a way that those around them would talk about them with surprise: “How can they make friends, love, work, raise children, pay taxes and even dress like that? Everything they do is wonderful and worthy of emulation!”

Why don’t we have “Orthodox fashion”?

Over the twenty post-Soviet years, such a concept as “Orthodox fashion” has developed. It is quite acceptable to designate the direction in which enthusiasts are trying to revive the traditional forms of clothing for Rus' in combination with the requirements of the present time. Everyone understands that Christianity has nothing to do with it and the main significance here belongs to the pre-revolutionary Russian tradition. However, for many believers, including businessmen, this particular style of clothing has become a compromise between the commandment “do not seduce,” aesthetics and modernity. And sometimes really very interesting and beautiful things turn out. But still, this phenomenon is unlikely to become of any scale. We are clearly not in danger of mass production of such clothing in the foreseeable future, and few people are ready to sew on their own. But that's not the main thing.

I see the main reason for the impossibility of the full existence of “Orthodox fashion” in the near future.

Many Orthodox Christians in post-Soviet Russia still shun culture (not only modern, but also classical), seem to be afraid of it, and contrast it with a kind of lack of culture. A textbook Orthodox phrase of the 90s and early 2000s: “We don’t need spirituality, we have spirituality” (spirituality means exclusively communication with God). Thus, in our days, the rejection of the surrounding world and contempt for it, rejected by the first Christians, has been revived. For many, Orthodoxy has become a form of social protest against the ever-increasing sinfulness and depravity of post-Soviet Russian society. Of course, there are many serious reasons for this approach, but in practice it often takes caricatured, pretentious, and absurd forms.

Despite what has been said above, I will perhaps express the hope that over time “Orthodox fashion” can find its feet. Firstly, there are no canonical (disciplinary) or doctrinal obstacles to this. Secondly, the experience of Muslims shows that religious people can dress modernly, beautifully, stylishly, fully consistent with their religious precepts and traditions.
