Akathist to Panteleimon the Healer - read and listen online

Holy healer

Panteleimon was a doctor, that is, a very educated young man of good origin. His mother was a Christian, but died early. A handsome, talented young man was noticed at court, where he began to serve as a doctor. But his soul was looking for more than fame and recognition.

Having met secret Christians, Panteleimon began to comprehend the truths of faith. He always sought to help people, and then he learned about Christ. Of course, he could not remain indifferent to the story of the Savior’s death on the cross. The akathist to Panteleimon the healer describes an incident when he resurrected a child. It was after him that the young doctor decided to be baptized. He began to treat everyone for free, and also tell people about Christ, which outraged the pagans.

Following a denunciation, the saint was arrested. At first, the emperor tried to dissuade the young man, because he did not want to lose a good doctor - such a person is still very rare today. But the young man with meekness argued that there is only one true God - Jesus Christ. Then the ruler became furious and handed his former favorite over to the executioners.

  • The Akathist to the Holy Great Martyr and Healer Panteleimon emphasizes the courage with which he endured torment and also confessed Christ. They threw him into a boiling cauldron, burned him and tore his flesh, and tried to drown him. But the Lord strengthened the young man, who again and again turned out to be safe. Even wild animals refused to harm the healer, trying to lick his hand.

This infuriated the emperor; he ordered the animals to be killed and the saint himself to be beheaded. After the execution, blood and milk flowed out of his body. The honorable head of the saint has survived to this day - it is in one of the Athos monasteries.

The earthly path of the Holy Great Martyr Panteleimon

In the third century, a son was born into the family of a revered pagan, who was named Panteleimon. The boy's mother, a Christian, however, died early. The child was raised by his father, who sent him to a pagan school. After graduating, the young man studied medicine with the famous doctor, in which he achieved great success. Emperor Maximilian, known for his persecution of Christians, drew the attention of Panteleimon and made him a court physician.

One day the young man met with Elder Ermolai, with whom they had long conversations on the topic of Christianity. He noted that Panteleimon has a certain gift of healing. The young man wanted to try it in practice, but there was no opportunity. One day, while walking down the street, he saw a child who died from the bite of an echidna that was nearby. He began to pray and gave God lunch, if the echidna dies and the boy survives, he will devote his life to helping people. And so it happened. From then on, he healed the sick through prayer and the word of God.

Crowds of sufferers began to come to him. He treated homeless tramps, beggars and prison inmates. Other doctors began to envy him and denounced him. The emperor ordered his capture. Panteleimon faced a choice: accept paganism or death. But the saint did not give up his faith. They tortured him for a long time, trying to break him. When the tormentors realized that all their attempts were in vain, the emperor ordered the saint to be tied to an olive tree. Panteleimon began to pray to the Lord. When the executioner hit him with his sword, he went limp. When the saint finished reading the prayer, everyone heard a voice from above that called the martyr to the Heavenly Kingdom. The guards fell to their knees and began to ask the young man for forgiveness, refusing to execute him. However, Pantelemon asked them to get up from their knees and finish the execution.

The young doctor was beheaded, and instead of blood, milk flowed out from the place of the severed head. The olive tree is covered with fruit. Those present believed in Jesus Christ and began to pray on their knees.

Veneration in Christianity

Due to the fact that the life of the saint was compiled immediately after his death, his fame spread very quickly. Temples in the name of the passion-bearer from Nicomedia had been built since the 400s. He is also revered as a saint in Catholicism. Blood and milk were stored until the 10th century. In the hometown of St. Panteleimon, a big holiday is held annually with a procession of the cross, which attracts not only Christians, but also representatives of other faiths.
