Prayer to St. George the Victorious
The Orthodox Church celebrates the day of the Holy Great Martyr George the Victorious on May 6 or April 23 according to the old style. This Saint was born into a wealthy family in the city of Beirut, which was formerly called Berit. His parents were pious people. The child was raised in the Christian faith from childhood.
Earthly life of a Saint
Already in childhood, George’s family suffered a terrible tragedy. His father, the military leader of Cappadocia, was tortured by the pagans for confessing the faith of Christ. After this, the mother and her son moved to her parents, who were the owners of extensive estates in close proximity to the city of Lydda in Palestine.
George was a capable child and received an excellent education, after which he decided to enter military service. At the age of twenty, he was appointed commander of the famous cohort of invictiors. During the period of military battles with the Persians, the emperor himself noticed a brave young man, for which he was appointed a comite - a close associate of Emperor Diocletian.
The reign of Diocletian falls on the period from 284 to 305. This ruler was a fanatical adherent of paganism. He is known for carrying out terrible persecutions against Christians.
One day, George witnessed the passing of a terrible sentence at a trial, which was associated with the extermination of many Christians. His soul was filled with compassion.
Realizing that he was also threatened with suffering for his faith, he himself came to Diocletian and admitted that he was a Christian. To prevent his property from falling to the pagans, he first distributed his property to the poor and gave freedom to his slaves.
Appearing before the emperor, George accused him of injustice and cruelty. The speech of the fearless warrior was filled with objections to the order that prescribed the persecution of Christians, and they were very convincing.
Immediately, George was imprisoned. The most terrible tortures were used on him in order to force him to renounce Christ. But all the sophisticated efforts of the emperor were in vain. George prayed and glorified the Lord.
Didn't renounce faith on his deathbed
Legend has it that one day, after another torture on the wheel, all witnesses recognized George as dead. But suddenly thunder came from the heavens and a voice of support sounded.
Healed by God's Angel, George opened his eyes and stepped off the wheel himself, continuing to glorify God.
Thanks to this miracle, many pagans wanted to convert to Christianity, including Empress Alexandra herself, and many close to the emperor.
George still had to endure great torment, but he could not be broken. After some time, the emperor gave the order to execute the Christian. At first he wanted to sacrifice him in the temple of Apollo.
But George turned to the statue of Apollo, how dare he and all the idols remain in this place when the true servant of God came here. After these words, the pagan temple began to collapse in front of many witnesses. Frightened, ardent pagans demanded that the emperor urgently execute George. He was brought to the chopping block.
There he asked to be freed from his shackles and began to pray. After this, George himself laid his head on the chopping block.
The soul of the Holy Great Martyr, because he defeated his tormentors, was taken to Heaven by the Angels, and his body was buried in Lydda.

Read a prayer for help in work
If you encounter difficulties at work, you should not despair. You need to perform a small ritual and pray to the Holy Great Martyr George. To do this, you need to retire to a separate room.
Next you need to do the following:
- Light three candles;
- Place an icon of the Saint in front of you;
- Place a decanter filled with holy water nearby.
You need to sit in silence in front of the created installation for some time. You should imagine that you are at work and you have no problems at all. Remember all the tasks assigned to you and imagine that you have already successfully solved them.
After this, you need to visualize the image of your boss in a good mood. It is important that at this moment you do not remember the situation when he scolded you. If you succeed, then dream about how he praises you for the results you have achieved.
Only after this can you read the following prayer in a whisper:
“I turn to You, Saint George the Victorious and Savior, I, the Servant of God (my own name). Hear my prayer and come down to me from heaven. Help me, give me strength in my work, make me strong in spirit.
Help me overcome all the difficulties in my work, overcome the litigation that happened at work. Make sure that the authorities are well disposed.
And if I am destined to be fired, then may Christ forgive me for all my rash acts. Amen".
After prayer, you should cross yourself and drink a few sips of holy water. If problems arise at work, this ritual must be performed at least three times a week.

Having visualized a successful picture, you should humbly say the following words:
“Saint George the Victorious, Great Martyr and Savior. I ask you to help me achieve success in sports. Don't let me fall and slip at a crucial moment. Don't let the despair of failure fill my heart.
Help us reach the finish line successfully and win. Give me strength not to be afraid of my enemy. May good luck always accompany me in sports, may enchanting victories happen only for the good. I ask you to save me from injury, to save my body.
Give me strength for a successful fight. Amen".

The path, the Lord, will not leave us with its goodness and will lead us to salvation, and in life it will give us victories that we really need. Under terrible torture, you defended your intentions, and stood with Christian faith in your soul and prayer. And I thank the Almighty God for everything I have in this life.
I pray to You, Holy Victorious, that you grant me the strength of spirit, so that I can successfully embody myself in the service for the benefit of everyone, and not for the detriment. I ask You to soften the hearts of my enemies and enemies, who spread rumors and gossip about me and seek to harm me.
Turn away from me forever all sorrows, troubles and misfortunes. Let only people endowed with worldly wisdom, experience and knowledge meet in my service. Give me the opportunity to have patience and help me walk my life’s path with dignity, without harming anyone and resisting sinful temptations.
I believe and hope in Your help in solving all my problems. Amen.
A strong prayer to St. George the Victorious from visible and invisible enemies sounds like this:

So take your sword again and protect me from enemies visible and invisible. Protect me from the evil black force that is trying to harm me. Don’t let the sorcerer and sorcerer cast evil spells on me.
Protect me from crooked and wrong paths, from damage and the evil eye from evil enemies, from the blasphemy of ill-wishers, from losses, from illnesses, from sinful temptations and from other infections. Make sure that the protector angel is always next to me. Help me avoid the guilt of others. Make sure that the Holy Spirit does not turn away from me.
Be with me, Holy Great Martyr, in all trials, endow me with faith, protect my soul. Make sure that all my burdens and worries go away, just as a blizzard subsides after a storm. Let the enemy’s gaze turn away from me and do no harm to me. Let troubles and sorrows move far away from me. May my suffering be forever forgotten.
I am Saint George the Victorious, Great Martyr, I trust in you! I believe, I pray to the Lord and I glorify you. Amen".

May the Lord not punish me according to my iniquities, but may He judge me according to His mercy of God. Do not disregard, Holy Great Martyr, my sincere prayers. Ask for me before the Almighty. May they grant me a quiet and calm godly life without sinful temptations.
Ask the Holy Great Martyr for mental health and physical strengthening for me. Grant us all land fertility and abundance. I thank you Saint George and glorify your name. When and why do affirmations not work?
I often tell my students about affirmations - supporting psychological attitudes during the course of a competition or in training. Especially when they are training for a marathon.
The fact is that by about 30 kilometers of the marathon distance the brain begins to get tired and, as it were, “falls asleep”: the concentration of attention and the reaction to what is happening around the distance decreases. In general, the athlete’s so-called fighting spirit turns off. And there the speed tends to fade, the running technique becomes familiar, with all the mistakes. From now on, you need to specifically occupy your brain with something in order to maintain a working state. In this case, affirmations help a lot.
I already wrote somewhere that it is not necessary to get emotionally involved in certain phrases that you say to yourself. It is important to simply say them: at the neural level, everything will happen on its own. What is really necessary (in my own experience!) is to prepare them in advance and to form an emotional state in response to these attitudes in advance. Again, emotions don't have to be intense. Don't artificially raise your endorphin levels. The main thing is that the affirmations are yours. For example, at one time I successfully used the phrase: “It’s easy for me! I'm not afraid!" Although adherents of positive attitudes will correct me, the brain perceives phrases with the particle “NOT” as without it, that is, it turns out, supposedly, “I’m afraid.” I won’t argue, but I won’t agree either. The impact of this phrase on me was immediate; I felt it precisely as the absence of fear to act. In other words, the body must ACCEPT exactly this attitude.

St. George the Victorious helps to win.
We often associate “Victory” with great historical actions. But we all win our own tiny victories every day. For some, this is a triumph over idleness, for others - over illnesses, for others - over their own addictions.
Every day, praying in the mornings and evenings, we cry out for triumph over the prince of darkness, the devilish temptations. In this we will especially be helped by prayers for victory to St. Archangel Michael, the chief of the angelic warriors, and St. George the Victorious.
In the Christian faith, these saints are considered crushers of dark forces, support in the fight against them, and in their images they are depicted as slaying the unclean spirit in the form of a serpent.
Orthodox prayer for a sports victory
Victory means a lot to a person in our vain life. Nowadays, it is no longer shameful to pray on your own for triumph at competitions, contests, and Olympiads.
Before such important events, it would not be a bad idea to visit the church to order a prayer service for victory and the Lord’s help in various endeavors.
Numerous current teams of athletes, before the most important sports competitions, not only attend church as a whole and pray to the Almighty for help, but also use the services of their own confessor-clergyman, who helps support the team spiritually, performing prayers and confessions.
But a miraculous prayer for victory will not help if you do not physically prepare for the competition - the athlete must make every effort to achieve the desired results himself. Here are the words of the prayer to the Great Martyr George the Victorious, with which you can pray for help in victory:
“Holy, glorious and all-praised Great Martyr George! Gathered in your temple and before your holy icon, people worshiping, we pray to you, known to the desires of our intercessor, pray with us and for us, beseeching God from His mercy, may he mercifully hear us asking for His goodness, and not abandon all ours to salvation and life needful petitions, and grants our country victory in the face of resistance; and again, falling down, we pray to you, victorious saint: strengthen the Orthodox army in battle with the grace given to you, destroy the forces of the rising enemies, so that they will be ashamed and put to shame, and let their insolence be crushed, and let them know that we have Divine help, and to everyone in sorrow and the current situation, show your powerful intercession. on the topic: Prayer to the Great Martyr George the Victorious
But winning a competition depends on more than just fervent prayers. If you want to help your team succeed, remember to put your heart and soul into your training, but try not to overdo it. Don't forget to rest and eat right.
After all, if you neglect such simple rules, you may harm your own health, and there may be a high probability of injury. But also try not to forget to go to the Orthodox Church.
In the Temple, order a prayer service for Health for yourself, light candles near the image of St. George the Victorious, and barely audibly say the following words:
“Saint George the Victorious. Bless me for the competition, approve of the right calling. Amen."
Sincerely signify the sign of the cross on yourself. To perform a prayer service at home, buy a prayer book and church candles.
At the end of sports training, during rest, move away from everyone into a closed room, light a candle, and place an icon of St. George the Victorious nearby.
Do not forget to believe in his help and protection of the Almighty. In your thoughts, repent of your own sins and humbly read the following prayer:
“Saint George the Victorious, do not let me fall, slip, or return with despair in my heart. Get to the finish line honestly, don’t be afraid of the enemy. Let good luck flow in sports, let victory be created for good. Save my body from injury, let this difficult matter proceed. Thy will be done. Amen"
Cross yourself three times and put out the candle.
Good luck to you in the competition!

How to pray correctly
It is best to pray for sports achievements in places of worship: Orthodox churches and monasteries. At major competitions outside of Russia, such an opportunity is rarely provided. Then prayer is offered in front of the holy images in a specially equipped place.
For prayer to be heard, the believer must remember three fundamental conditions:
- sincere faith in God and the power of prayers;
- repentance for sins (internal or in confession before a priest);
- absence of evil thoughts towards opponents.
They light a candle in front of the icon and read a prayer while it burns. They constantly pray for victory when given the opportunity to retire and concentrate on the content of the sacred text. After high sports results, you need to thank the Lord or a holy saint for your help.
