A happy marriage is the dream of every woman. Loving husband, strong family, healthy children. Such simple desires, but sometimes so difficult to fulfill. Not everything is within a person’s control: problems often arise that are difficult to resolve both before marriage and while in it. And then faith comes into force - turning to God in prayer asking for help, mercy and true grace. Our article will tell you which psalm to read for marriage.

The most common way the Church helps in matters of marriage is to read psalms for marriage. After all, the Bible interprets the concept of family as a symbol of a small church. Therefore, appeals to the Lord on this issue not only can, but should also be present in a person’s life. Accordingly, there are certain icons that help with this. So with similar requests they often turn to such saints and the faces of the Mother of God:

  • Andrew the First-Called;
  • Nicholas the Wonderworker;
  • Paraskeva Pyatnitsa;
  • Great Martyr Catherine;
  • faces of the Mother of God “Kozelschanskaya” and “Unfading Color”.

They are the ones who are closest to the Almighty in matters of patronage of marriage, marriage, family and can provide assistance by giving hope for a favorable and happy outcome in matters of the heart.

Prayer for Marriage

A true Christian life is impossible without prayer. According to the “Catechism” of Metropolitan Hilarion (Alfeev), prayer is communication with God, communication with Him, the movement of man and the Almighty towards each other. In prayers we can thank God, glorify Him, express repentance and various requests. There is also a petitionary prayer for marriage. Girls who want to start a family come to her.

In the article “What did Christianity give to women?” Archpriest Andrei Tkachev writes: “If the Lord created Adam from unformed material - earth, then the creation of a woman is the creation of the best of the good. For Eve, Adam was both husband and father. Part of this is a woman’s irresistible attraction to marriage, the desire to achieve the fullness of being.” Let us also quote Father Andrei from his book “Our Time. Why are we born”: “A woman needs a man more than a woman needs a man, that’s a fact. A woman needs a man essentially; she is attracted to him not for pleasure, but for life. She simply cannot live otherwise.” So, for a woman the desire to unite with a man is absolutely natural. It is laid by the Lord in feminine nature. This union is blessed by God within the framework of a fulfilling marriage. Therefore, asking the Almighty for help in starting a family is completely normal.

Girl in an Orthodox church

Whom they pray to to save the family and admonish the husband

Before choosing a saint to whom a prayer for peace in the family will be read, you should analyze the reason for the disagreements that arise, the cooling of relationships, and quarrels. In this matter, the priest’s advice will come in handy. He needs to describe the situation in the family in detail, without skimping on self-criticism.

Most often, when disagreements and hostile relations arise between husband and wife, a prayer is read: Xenia of Petersburg, Guria, Samon and Aviv, Matrona of Moscow, Mother of God.

If one of the spouses suddenly found another love and decided to leave the family, you should contact Nicholas the Wonderworker, John the Theologian, Peter and Fevronia. When one of the spouses has clearly been damaged or a love spell has been cast, especially a strong one, one should call on Saint Cyprian or Archangel Michael for help. No one better than them can overcome the devil and eliminate the deeds of his servants.

Why pray to start a family?

Christians pray not only to God, but also to the Mother of God, saints, and angels. For example, there is a prayer to the Most Holy Theotokos for marriage. However, we must not forget that they are only intermediaries between man and the Creator, helping to convey our requests to Him. Only God himself fulfills these requests. St. Neil of Sinai in his “Creations” points out that through prayer we enlighten our souls, just as we wash away bodily impurity with water. Prayer calls upon a person grace and helps him feel the presence of God in his life.

People who have recently begun the path to God may have a question: why pray? After all, the Almighty already knows what we want to tell him? Believers do not pray to tell God what He does not know. Prayer is their expression of their desire and trust in Him in all their problems and needs. "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you” (Matthew 7:7). A woman’s prayer for marriage expresses one of the main human needs - creating her own family.

Family - small church

There is no greater treasure for a Christian than a loving and godly family. Members of a believing family attend services together and read home prayers.

Joint prayer brings family members closer together, and makes it itself a small Church - that is, a small semblance of the Church.

By praying in front of their children while they are small and with them when they grow up, parents set an example of spiritual life for their sons and daughters. Only examples received in the family will help children become true Christians in the future.

Prayer to get married is not a magical love spell

In Orthodoxy there are no witchcraft rituals to attract the attention of the opposite sex and have a successful marriage. Love spells, conspiracies, fortune telling for the “betrothed” and similar actions are pagan and have nothing to do with Orthodoxy. Moreover, the Church condemns activities of this kind as ungodly and destructive of a person’s soul, because they imply a connection with dark forces.

A prayer to create a family is not a spell that automatically grants a wish. This is a heartfelt appeal to God or the saints, in which a person expresses his request, hopes and hopes, but at the same time humbly bows to the will of the Almighty. In the book “To the Unknown Child” you can find useful words from Archimandrite John (Krestyankin) that in life everything happens on time for those who know how to wait. We don't always get what we ask for right away. Real faith involves realizing that God knows best what we need and when we need it.

Therefore, a Christian joyfully entrusts his life to the Creator. The purpose of Christian life is the union of human and God's will. A girl’s prayer for marriage should be imbued with humility and trust in God. The answer can be given in a variety of forms, but a sincere appeal to the Almighty will never go unanswered.

Prayers for loneliness and melancholy for men and women

In Orthodoxy, the purpose of a marriage is not so much procreation as the spiritual unity of the spouses, their complementarity and mutual assistance.

Prayers to Orthodox saints for love:

Peter and Fevronia of Murom, Matrona of Moscow, Nicholas the Wonderworker

A marriage concluded between believers is always blessed by the Lord. The marriage vow of the spouses is preserved not until death separates them, but until their full unity in the Kingdom of Heaven after the General Resurrection.

With these thoughts it is worth asking God and the saints for help in love.

Virgin Mary

She, our most blessed Queen, needs our indestructible and invincible Intercessor! Do not turn Your face away from us for our many sins: but forgive us the hand of Your motherly mercy, and create an eclipse for our good. Show us Thy rich help and prosper in every good deed: turn us away from every sinful undertaking and evil plan, so that we may glorify God, the Father, and His Only Begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, with all the saints, forever centuries. St. Blessed Xenia of Petersburg

Oh, holy all-blessed mother Ksenia! You who lived under the shelter of the Most High, known and strengthened by the Mother of God, endured hunger and thirst, cold and heat, reproach and persecution, received the gift of clairvoyance and miracles from God and rested under the shelter of the Almighty. Now the Holy Church, like a fragrant flower, glorifies you. Standing at the place of your burial, before your holy image, as if you were alive and present with us, we pray to you: accept our petitions and bring them to the Throne of the Merciful Heavenly Father, as you have boldness towards Him.

Ask those who flow to you for eternal salvation, for our good deeds and undertakings to receive a generous blessing, and for deliverance from all troubles and sorrows. Stand before our All-Merciful Savior with your holy prayers for us, unworthy and sinners.

Help, Holy Blessed Mother Xenia, illuminate the babies with the light of Holy Baptism and seal the gift of the Holy Spirit, educate the boys and girls in faith, honesty, fear of God and grant them success in learning; heal the sick and ailing, send down love and harmony to families, honor monastics to strive for good deeds and protect them from reproach, strengthen pastors in the strength of the Holy Spirit, preserve our people and country in peace and serenity, pray for those deprived of communion of the Holy Mysteries of Christ in the dying hour.

Prayer to Saint Matrona of Moscow

Matrona of Moscow

O blessed Mother Matrono, with your soul standing in heaven before the Throne of God, with your body resting on earth, and exuding various miracles by the grace given from above.

Look now with your merciful eye on us, sinners, in sorrows, illnesses and sinful temptations, our waiting days, comfort us, desperate ones, heal our fierce ailments, from God we are allowed by our sins, deliver us from many troubles and circumstances, pray to our Lord Jesus Christ forgive us all our sins, iniquities and falls, in whose image we have sinned from our youth even to this day and hour, and through your prayers having received grace and great mercy, we glorify in the Trinity the One God, the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and ever. Amen.

O blessed mother Matrono, hear and accept us now, sinners, praying to you, who in all your life has learned to receive and listen to all those who suffer and mourn, with faith and hope who resort to your intercession and help, giving quick help and miraculous healing to everyone; May your mercy not fail now for us, unworthy, restless in this busy world and nowhere finding consolation and compassion in spiritual sorrows and help in bodily illnesses: heal our illnesses, deliver us from the temptations and torment of the devil, who passionately fights, help us convey our everyday Cross, to bear all the hardships of life and not lose the image of God in it, to preserve the Orthodox faith until the end of our days, to have strong trust and hope in God and unfeigned love for others; help us, after departing from this life, to achieve the Kingdom of Heaven with all those who please God, glorifying the mercy and goodness of the Heavenly Father, glorified in the Trinity, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer to the Great Martyr Paraskeva Pyatnitsa

Paraskeva Friday

O holy and blessed martyr of Christ Paraskeva, maiden beauty, praise of the martyrs, purity of image, magnanimous mirrors, wonder of the wise, guardian of the Christian faith, idolatry flattery of the accuser, champion of the Divine Gospel, zealot of the Lord’s commandments, vouchsafed to come to the haven of eternal rest and in the devil of your Bridegroom Christ God, brightly rejoicing, adorned with the supreme crown of virginity and martyrdom! We pray to you, holy martyr, be sorrowful for us to Christ God.

Through His most blessed vision one can always have fun; pray to the All-Merciful One, who opened the eyes of the blind with a word, that He may deliver us from the illness of our hair, both physical and mental; With your holy prayers, kindle the dark darkness that has come from our sins, ask the Father of Light for the light of grace for our spiritual and physical eyes; Enlighten us, darkened by sins, with the light of God’s grace, so that for the sake of your holy prayers sweet vision will be given to the dishonest.

O great servant of God! O most courageous maiden! O strong martyr Saint Paraskeva!

With your holy prayers, be a helper to us sinners, intercede and pray for the damned and extremely negligent sinners, hasten to help us, for these are extremely weak. Pray to the Lord, pure maiden, pray to the Merciful, holy martyr, pray to your Bridegroom, immaculate bride of Christ, so that through your prayers, having escaped the darkness of sin, in the light of the true faith and divine deeds, we will enter into the eternal light of the unevening day, into the city of everlasting joy, in now you shine brightly with glory and endless joy, glorifying and singing with all the Heavenly Powers the Trisagion of the One Divinity, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Prayer to Nicholas the Wonderworker of Myra

Saint Nicholas

Oh, all-holy Nicholas, exceedingly saintly servant of the Lord, our warm intercessor and quick helper everywhere in sorrow!

Help me, the sinful and sad person in this life, beg the Lord God to grant me forgiveness of all my sins, which I have sinned greatly from my youth, throughout my life, in deed, word, thought and all my feelings; and at the end of my soul, help me, the accursed one, beg the Lord God, the Creator of all creation, to deliver me from airy ordeals and eternal torment: may I always glorify the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, and your merciful intercession, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Prayer to the Great Martyr Catherine

Holy Great Martyr Catherine

“The most beautiful, wise, wonderful Virgin, Holy Great Martyr Catherine! Having completely studied all Hellenic wisdom, oratory and philosophy, and the science of medicine, having learned well, you desired more enlightenment, but having believed in Christ, in a vision you saw the Eternal Child in the arms of His Most Pure Mother, who gave you the ring of immortal betrothal to him. Having then endured fierce torment, severe blows and cruel wounds, and the darkness of prison, and the fragmentation of members on wheels, by the power of Christ you were healed from all this.

On your way to execution, you prayed thus, glorious great martyr: “Lord Jesus Christ!” I will call upon those who are Thy all-holy name, and will fill them with good forgiveness of all that they need, so that Thy greatness may be glorified from all of them forever.” To the wives who are tormented by birth illnesses and who call on you for help, you, Saint Catherine, show your intercession; therefore, do not reject other wives who pray to you with love and reverence, and with warm faith and tears from the bottom of their hearts, rush to their aid and free them from difficult childbirth, so that having given birth to children, they raise them in the fear of God, thanking you, most glorious Catherine, for the help shown to them, and glorifying God for you, with all their house. Amen".

Prayer to Saint Tikhon

Patriarch Tikhon

O all-praised saint and saint of Christ, our Father Tikhon! Having lived like an angel on earth, you, like a good angel, appeared in your wondrous glorification.

We believe with all our souls and thoughts that you, our merciful helper and prayer book, with your honest intercessions and grace, abundantly bestowed on you from the Lord, are constantly contributing to our salvation.

Accept therefore, blessed servant of Christ, even at this hour our unworthy prayer: free us through your intercession from the vanity and superstition that surrounds us, the unbelief and evil of man.

Strive, quick intercessor for us, to beg the Lord with your favorable intercession, may He add His great and rich mercy to us sinners and unworthy His servants, may He heal with His grace the incurable ulcers and scabs of our corrupted souls and bodies, may He dissolve our petrified hearts with tears of tenderness and contrition for our many sins, and may He deliver us from eternal torment and the fire of Gehenna: and may He grant to all His faithful people in this present world peace and silence, health and salvation, and good haste in everything, and such a quiet and silent life lived in every piety and purity, vouchsafe me with the angels and with all the saints to glorify and sing the All-Holy Name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit forever and ever. Amen

An example of God's help in finding a spouse

Let us give the story of the Orthodox writer and journalist Elena Kucherenko. In her short essay “How I Got Married,” Elena says that in her youth, just coming to faith, she dreamed of a quiet family life “surrounded by a bunch of kids and “led” by a bearded Orthodox husband.” However, for a long time she was unable to find her soul mate. One day Elena came across a book about Blessed Xenia of St. Petersburg, in which it was said that this saint especially helps in family matters.

Circumstances did not allow Elena to come to the chapel of Blessed Xenia, so she wrote a letter there. In it she described her life and asked the saint for help. Elena also ordered a prayer service for the blessed one in her letter and enclosed a donation. A few weeks later the answer came. The chapel workers thanked Elena for her donation, consoled her and informed her that they had served a prayer service. They included a flower petal from the grave of St. Xenia in the letter. All this strengthened Elena and she continued to pray to the saint.

Soon Elena went with friends to Ukraine. They spent several days in a small town visiting a friend of her friends, Vadim. As soon as Elena saw him, she realized that she had found the man she had dreamed of exactly. The company was having fun, but Vadim did not pay any attention to Elena. And then the day of departure came. Elena cried in her heart, but did not stop praying to Saint Xenia for help. Suddenly Vadim came running and said that he would go with them to the regional center. On the train, he proposed marriage to Elena. Soon Elena and Vadim got married. Now they have five daughters.

Prayer to Paraskeva Friday

Saint Paraskeva Friday is the patroness of crop fields and livestock. But a prayer addressed to her will allow you to find a worthy husband, and an icon with her image will protect your family hearth.

Paraskeva Pyatnitsa dedicated her life to serving the Lord God and, in her youth, took a vow of celibacy. She was named Friday (Paraskeva in Greek) by her parents, since it was on this day of the week that Jesus Christ was crucified. After a long and painful death, as a result of severe torture, as a Christian, Paraskeva was presented as a saint.

Read the prayer to Paraskeva Pyatnitsa, and it will help you meet a soul mate with whom you will live a happy life. It is better to read the prayer for finding mutual love in the morning and evening. If you do this sincerely, then sooner or later your destiny will certainly find you.

A girl's prayer for marriage

Oh, All-merciful Lord, I know that my great happiness depends on the fact that I love You with all my soul and with all my heart, and that I fulfill Your holy will in everything. Rule Yourself, O my God, over my soul and fill my heart: I want to please You alone, for You are the Creator and my God.

Save me from pride and self-love: let reason, modesty and chastity adorn me. Idleness is disgusting to You and gives rise to vices, so give me the desire for hard work and bless my labors. Since Your Law commands people to live in honest marriage, then lead me, Holy Father, to this calling sanctified by You, not to please my lust, but to fulfill Your destiny him, for You Yourself said: it is not good for a man to be alone, and having created for him a wife as a helper, he blessed them to grow, multiply and populate the earth.

Hear my humble prayer, sent to You from the depths of a girl’s heart; give me an honest and pious spouse, so that in love with him and in harmony we glorify You, the merciful God: the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

It is also worth remembering another important Orthodox prayer - Psalm 45: it helps to get married, live in love and harmony, find long-awaited happiness in marriage, and build a strong and friendly family.

The greatest word of Orthodoxy is the psalm. To get married, live in love and joy, you need to believe in his power and be a true Christian. And God will illuminate with His noble light and give the highest grace - eternal love and eternal life.

The text of the most powerful psalm for marriage:

O Most Pure Lady Theotokos, Queen of heaven and earth, highest angel and archangel and most honest of all creatures, pure Virgin Mary, good helper to the world and affirmation and deliverance for all people in all their needs! Look now, O All-Merciful Lady, upon Thy servants, praying to Thee with a tender soul and a contrite heart, falling with tears to Thy most pure and wholesome image, and asking for Thy help and intercession.

O All-Merciful and Most Merciful Virgin Mary, honored! Look, O Lady, at Thy people: for we, sinners, are imams of no other help, except for Thee and of Thee, who was born Christ our God. You are our intercessor and representative, You are the protection of the offended. Joy to those who mourn, refuge to the orphans, guardian to widows, glory to virgins, joy to those who mourn, visitation to the sick, healing to the weak, salvation to sinners. For this reason, O Mother of God, we run to You and to Your most pure image with the eternal baby held in Your hand, looking at our Lord Jesus Christ, we bring tender singing to You and cry: have mercy on us, Mother of God, and fulfill our request, for all that is possible to Thy intercession: for unto Thee is glory due, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

God bless you!

In this video you will hear the reading of Psalm 45, which is read for quick marriage and happiness:

Prayer to the Mother of God for the family

“Don’t be afraid, little flock! “I am with you and no one else is with you.” Most Blessed Lady, take my family under Your protection. Instill in the hearts of my husband and our children peace, love and intransigence to all that is good; Do not allow anyone from my family to experience separation and difficult parting, to premature and sudden death without repentance. And save our house and all of us living in it from fiery ignition, thieves’ attacks, all evil circumstances, various types of insurance and diabolical obsession. Yes, and we, individually and separately, openly and secretly, will glorify Your Holy Name always, now and ever, and to the ages of ages. Amen.

Prayer to the Lord God Jesus Christ

One of the most powerful prayers for marriage is considered to be the one addressed to the Lord God. Most often, the text is read by the mother of the girl who is unhappy and lonely.

To enhance the effect of the petition, you can resort to the following:

  • buy candles and an icon of the Lord (if you don’t have his image in your house);
  • you need to light a candle in front of the icon, which will allow you to quickly tune in to the petition;
  • You should pray alone;
  • prayer must come from a pure heart and be said thoughtfully.

When a girl finds family happiness, do not forget to read a prayer of gratitude to the Lord God or thank him in your own words.

Prayer of the Archangel Gabriel

This is one of the 12 archangels who notified the Virgin Mary about the birth of the Savior and the righteous Zechariah about the birth of John the Baptist. Gabriel is revered as the messenger of the Lord. On icons he is often depicted with a lily or a flower of paradise in his hands. It was he who protected the Mother of God all her life, warned of dangers and came down to tell about her imminent death.

Couples who are unable to conceive a child, as well as pregnant women asking for the baby’s health, often turn to Gabriel in prayer. He also helps single or unmarried believers.

Prayer to Mitrofan of Voronezh

During his lifetime, the great saint and wonderworker performed many good deeds, both for his hometown of Voronezh and for other cities in the country. To heal the patient, one touch was enough for him.

Today, prayers addressed to Saint Mitrofan are heard from Orthodox Christians from all over the world. He is asked for help with children's education, protection and mercy, gaining independence and a worthy place in society, as well as marriage and personal life.

Do not think that once you have prayed, Saint Mitrofan will hear or fulfill your request - sometimes you have to wait quite a long time for the fulfillment of a desire, so be patient and be sincere in pronouncing your prayer.
