Glory to Thee, our God, glory to Thee. Praise be to You, our God, praise be to You.
Glory is praise.
In this prayer we do not ask God for anything, but only glorify Him. It can be said in short: Glory to God . It is pronounced at the end of the task as a sign of our gratitude to God for His mercies to us.
Publican's Prayer
God, be merciful to me, a sinner. God, be merciful to me, a sinner.
Pharisee and publican in the temple at prayer
This is the prayer of a publican (tax collector), who repented of his sins and received forgiveness. It is taken from the Savior’s parable, which He once told people for their admonition. This is the parable. Two people entered the temple to pray. One of them was a Pharisee, and the other was a tax collector.
The Pharisee stood in front of everyone and prayed to God like this: I thank you, God, that I am not such a sinner as that tax collector. I give a tenth of my property to the poor, and I fast twice a week. And the publican, recognizing himself as a sinner, stood at the entrance to the temple and did not dare to raise his eyes to heaven.
He struck himself on the chest and said: God, be merciful to me, a sinner! The prayer of the humble publican was more pleasant and pleasing to God than the prayer of the proud Pharisee.
QUESTIONS: What is the name of this prayer? Where did it come from? Tell this parable?
Why is the prayer of a publican more pleasing to God than that of a Pharisee?
Prayer to the Lord Jesus
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, prayers for the sake of Your Most Pure Mother and all the saints, have mercy on us. Amen.
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, through the prayers of Your Most Pure Mother and all the saints, have mercy on us. Amen.
Have mercy on us - be merciful to us, forgive us. Jesus is the Savior; Christ is the Anointed One; prayers for the sake of - for the sake of prayers, or for prayers.
Jesus Christ is the Son of God - the second Person of the Holy Trinity. As the Son of God, He is our true God, as are God the Father and God the Holy Spirit.
We call Him Jesus, that is, Savior , because He saved us from sins and eternal death. For this purpose, He, being the Son of God, dwelt in the immaculate Virgin Mary and, with the influx of the Holy Spirit, became incarnate and became man from Her , i.e.
He accepted the body and soul of a man - he was born from the Blessed Virgin Mary, he became the same person as we are, but he was sinless - he became a God-man .
And instead of us suffering and tormenting for our sins, He, out of love for us sinners, suffered for us, died on the cross and rose again on the third day - defeated sin and death and gave us eternal life.
Realizing our sinfulness and not relying on the power of our prayers, in this prayer we ask you to pray for us sinners, before our Savior, all the saints and the Mother of God, who has the special grace to save us sinners through Her intercession for us before Her Son.
Lord Jesus Christ
Our Savior is called the Anointed One (Christ) because He fully had those gifts of the Holy Spirit, which in the Old Testament kings, prophets and high priests received through anointing.
QUESTIONS: Who is the Son of God? What else do we call Him? Why do we call Him Savior? How did He accomplish our salvation?
Prayer to the Holy Spirit
Heavenly King, Comforter, Soul Heavenly King, Comforter Spirit of truth, truth, who is everywhere and fills everything, who is everywhere and fills everything, treasure of good things and Giver of life, source of all good and Giver of life, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all filth, and save, O Good One, the souls of all sin and save, O Good One, our souls. our.
To the Tsar - Tsar; To the Comforter - Comforter; To the soul of truth - the Spirit of truth, the Spirit of truth; Izhe - Which; Sy - existing, located; fulfill everything - fill everything; the treasure of the good is the treasury, the repository of all goods, all good; life to the Giver - Giver of life; come and dwell - come and dwell in us - in us; from all filth - from all uncleanness, that is, from all sins; Better - good, kind.
In this prayer we pray to the Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Holy Trinity.
In it we call the Holy Spirit the King of Heaven , because He, as the true God, equal to God the Father and God the Son, invisibly reigns over us, owns us and the whole world. We call Him Comforter because He comforts us in our sorrows and misfortunes, just as He comforted the apostles on the 10th day after the ascension of Jesus Christ into heaven.
We call Him the Spirit of truth (as the Savior Himself called Him), because He, as the Holy Spirit, teaches everyone only one truth, truth, only what is useful for us and serves for our salvation.
He is God, and He is everywhere and fills everything with Himself: He is everywhere and fulfills everything . He, as the ruler of the whole world, sees everything and, where needed, gives. He is the treasure of good things , that is, the keeper of all good deeds, the source of all the good things that we need to have.
We call the Holy Spirit the Giver of life , because everything in the world lives and moves by the Holy Spirit, that is, everything receives life from Him, and especially people receive from Him spiritual, holy and eternal life beyond the grave, being cleansed through Him from their sins.
If the Holy Spirit has such wondrous properties: it is everywhere, fills everything with His grace and gives life to everyone, then we turn to Him with the following requests: Come and dwell in us , that is, constantly abide in us, as in your temple; cleanse us from all filth , that is, sin, make us saints, worthy of Your presence in us, and save, O Good One, our souls from sins and those punishments that come for sins, and through this grant us the Kingdom of Heaven.
QUESTIONS: To whom do we address this prayer? The Holy Spirit is what Person of the Holy Trinity? What is He called in this prayer? Why - the Heavenly King, the Comforter, the Spirit of truth, present everywhere, filling everything? What are we asking Him for? What does it mean: come and dwell in us? and cleanse from all filth? and save, O Lord, our souls?
Angelic Hymn to the Most Holy Trinity, or “Trisagion”
Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. | Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. |
Strong - strong; immortal - undying, eternal.
This prayer must be read three times in honor of the three Persons of the Holy Trinity.
an angelic song because the holy angels sing it, surrounding the throne of God in heaven. People who believe in Christ began to use it 400 years after the birth of Christ. There was a strong earthquake in Constantinople, from which houses and villages were destroyed. Frightened, Tsar Theodosius II and the people turned to God in prayer.
During this general prayer, one pious youth (boy), in full view of everyone, was raised to heaven by an invisible force, and then lowered back to earth unharmed. He told the people around him that he heard in heaven the holy angels singing: Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal .
The touched people, repeating this prayer, added: have mercy on us , and the earthquake stopped.
In this prayer, God the first Person of the Holy Trinity - God the Father; Strong - God the Son, because He is as omnipotent as God the Father, although according to humanity He suffered and died; Immortal - the Holy Spirit, because He is not only eternal, like the Father and the Son, but also gives life to all creatures and immortal life to people.
A youth lifted into the sky by an invisible force during a general prayer in Constantinople
Since in this prayer the word holy is repeated three times, it is also called “trisagion .
QUESTIONS: Who are we praying to in this prayer? How many times should you repeat it? What is it called? Why is it called an angel's song? What is known about the origin of this prayer? Why is it also called “trisagion”?

Song of praise of Saint Ambrose, Bishop of Milan
We praise You as God, We confess to You as the Lord, The whole earth magnifies Your Eternal Father; To you all the Angels, to you the Heavens and all the Powers, to you the unceasing voices of the Cherubim and Seraphim cry: Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of hosts, the essence of Heaven and earth are full of the majesty of Your glory. The glorious apostolic face is to you, the prophetic number of praise is to you, the bright martyr’s army praises you; Throughout the entire universe the Holy Church confesses to You: the Father of incomprehensible majesty, worshiping Your true and Only Begotten Son, and the Holy Comforter of the Spirit. You are the King of glory, Christ, You are the ever-present Son of the Father; For the sake of deliverance, when you received a man, you did not disdain the Virgin’s womb; Having overcome the sting of death, you have opened the Kingdom of Heaven to believers; You sit at the right hand of God in the glory of the Father, the Judge comes and believes. We therefore ask You: help Thy servant, whom Thou hast redeemed with His honest Blood, to reign with Thy saints in Thy eternal glory. Save Your people, Lord, and bless Your heritage, correct them, and exalt them forever. We will bless You all the days, and we will praise Your name forever and ever. Grant, Lord, that on this day we may be preserved without sin. Have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy on us; May Thy mercy, O Lord, be upon us, as we trust in Thee; in Thee, Lord, let us trust, let us not be ashamed forever. Amen.

How to thank God for everything
A person cannot always feel a sense of gratitude both to people and to God. In illness or misfortune, one cannot speak of praise. The heart turns to stone, consciousness becomes dull, not only physical but also mental strength is taken away. I. Brianchaninov (having experienced it himself) advises:
- Get alone . Slowly, pondering the words, say a few phrases out loud, overcoming your state and indifference.
- We can say briefly : Glory to Thee, God, Glory to Thee. Thy will be done.
- Or this : Glory to Thee, our God, for the sorrow sent.
- Or like the thief crucified on the right : I accept what is worthy of my deeds: remember me in Your Kingdom.
- Or repeat it all together several times . Until you feel peace and tranquility in your soul.
- If you want to express deeper gratitude , read the Thanksgiving for every Good Deed of God presented on this page.
- the ancient method of Doxology and prayers of praise in the Psalter. For example, kathismas 19 and 20 are fully consistent with this theme.
- Finally, there is a wonderful Akathist : “Glory to God for everything,” compiled by Metropolitan Tryphon (B.P. Turkestanov).
- In any church you can order not only remembrance of relatives, but also thanksgiving to the Lord Jesus Christ.
See how quickly relief comes. If the situation seemed hopeless, there will be a way out. The situation will be resolved, the illness will begin to recede, and you will endure grief more easily. Repentance and humility that fill the heart will attract the Grace of the Holy Spirit, and with Him there is nothing to be afraid of. Then you will truly know how close the Lord is to us.
Troparion, tone 4 1
Give thanks to Your unworthy servants, Lord, for Your great blessings upon us; we glorify You, bless You, thank You, sing and magnify Your compassion, and slavishly love I cry out to You: Our Benefactor, our Savior, glory to You.
Translation: Being grateful, Lord, for Your great benefits shown to us, we, Your unworthy servants, glorify, praise and bless You, thank, glorify and glorify Your mercy and slavishly, with love, we exclaim to You: “Benefactor, our Savior, glory You!" *

Prayer of gratitude to the Almighty
The Cathedral of Saints Angel and Archangel, with all the heavenly powers, sings to Thee and says: Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord of hosts, heaven and earth are filled with Thy glory. Hosanna in the highest, blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, Hosanna in the highest. Save me, Who art thou King on high, save me and sanctify me, Source of sanctification; For from You all creation is strengthened, To You countless warriors sing the Trisagion hymn. Unworthy of You, who sits in the unapproachable light, of whom all things are terrified, I pray: enlighten my mind, cleanse my heart, and open my lips, so that I may worthily sing to You: Holy, Holy, Holy art thou, Lord, always, now, and ever and to endless ages of ages. Amen.
Kontakion, voice 3rd 1
We earnestly flow to You for Your blessings and gifts, as a servant of indifference, O Master, and we give thanks to You as much as we can, and we cry out to You as the Benefactor and Creator. : Glory to You, All-Bountiful God.
Translation: We, as unworthy servants, undeservedly honored with Your blessings and gifts, Master, turn to You with zeal and offer all possible thanksgiving and, glorifying You as the Benefactor and Creator, we exclaim: “Glory to You, All-Merciful God!” *
How does the prayer “Glory to God for everything” help?
Metropolitan Tryphon managed to put so much love and gratitude into the text of the prayer that it is recommended for reading at various moments in life. The Akathist is recommended to be read in the most difficult moments: despondency and despair. Gratitude to the Creator gives a person strength, love for the Lord opens new paths and gives answers to the most important questions. This akathist is more reminiscent not of a prayer, but of a conversation with the Creator. It is recognized that the text of the prayer “Glory to God for everything,” full of love and admiration for the mercy of God, is capable of elevating anyone who prays. It must be read sincerely and with all your heart.
The benefit from reading the text of the akathist exceeds all expectations: those who know how to be grateful for little things are rewarded threefold. The Lord should be thanked for everything and always.

Parable: It's for the better
The two Africans had been friends since childhood, like inseparable brothers. One was chosen as king. Having taken a high position, he did not forget about his faithful friend - he was always there. But he had an oddity, which, for the time being, the Ruler put up with. No matter what happened, good or bad, the comrade always said: “This is for the best.”
One day while hunting, the king was injured: a finger was torn off by a charge. A friend loaded his guns. Yes, apparently the gunpowder was packed too tightly. Despite such misfortune, he said, as usual: “My King, this is for the best!” But this time, he was angry and ordered the culprit to be put in prison.
A year later, during another hunt, the king and his entire retinue were captured by people from a tribe of cannibals. They tied him up and brought him to their village. They had a belief: if a person had some kind of physical defect, he should not eat it. Seeing that the king was missing one finger, they set him free.
Returning home, he remembered his bosom friend. The feeling of guilt that he had treated him badly haunted him. Then he decided to ask his friend for forgiveness. He came to him, told him everything, apologized for keeping him in prison for a year. To which he replied, smiling:
- King, you did a very good thing by imprisoning me - it’s for the best!
- Yes, you're at it again! What good can this do?
- If you had not imprisoned me, I would have been hunting with you. And he would no longer speak, but would have been eaten by cannibals.
From the story it is clear that we do not immediately see what benefit illness or sorrow brings. Not in this world, but in the next we will know: the Lord dealt with us out of Love. Therefore, you must always give thanks for everything here on earth, trusting in God’s providence. Who knows, maybe it will be too late to do it later. Believe that everything that happens to us is for the better.
Prayer to the Lord 2
We thank Thee, Lord our God, for all Thy good deeds, even from the first age to the present in us, the unworthy, the former, about those known and not known, about those revealed and unmanifested, those who were in fact, and the word vom: who loved us as he loved the Only Begotten You are willing to give your Son to us. Make us also worthy of Your love. Give wisdom through Your word and through Your fear, inhale strength from Your power, and whatever we want or don’t want to sin, forgive, and not impute, and preserve our holy soul, and present To Your throne, I have a clear conscience, and the end is worthy of Your love for mankind. And remember, O Lord, all who call on Your name in truth: remember all who desire good or evil against us: for all are men, and every man is in vain. Moreover, we pray to You, Lord: grant us Your great mercy.
Translation: We thank You, Lord our God, for all Your good deeds, which from childhood to this day have been performed on us, unworthy: about those that we know and do not know, about obvious and hidden, past deeds and words. You loved us so much that You were willing to give Your Only Begotten Son for us. Grant us also to be worthy of Your love. Grant us wisdom through Your word and inhale strength from Your power through Your fear, and if we have sinned in any way, voluntarily or unwittingly, forgive us and do not hold it against us. And keep our soul in holiness, and place it before Your throne with a clear conscience, and give it an end worthy of Your love for mankind. And remember, Lord, all those who call upon Your name in truth: remember all who wish us good or hostile: for we are all men, and every man is vanity. Therefore, we pray to You, Lord: grant us Your great mercy.
Always rejoice and give thanks
Thanking God is not a simple act of politeness. This is a response to His Love, filling the heart with joy, light, grace, which transforms the human soul. Imagine that your loved one has presented you with a bouquet of flowers. The mood immediately rises, it becomes light and pleasant. And this is just from some flowers. The gift of God is billions of times greater.
When giving thanks, a gate is opened through which the Spirit of God enters. Not only do “wings behind your back” grow, but spiritual wounds are healed, receiving the balm of belonging to eternity. Whatever it is in your soul, you just have to start thanking God, and pain, fear, and sorrow are transformed into silence, joy, and peace. Hopelessness and unbelief flow into living faith.
Prayer of the Holy Righteous John of Kronstadt 3
God! What will I bring to You, how will I thank You for Your constant, greatest mercies to me and Your people? For here I am every moment revived by Your Holy Spirit, every moment I breathe the air diffused by You, light, pleasant, healthy, strengthening, I am enlightened by Your joyful and life-giving light, spiritual and material; I feed on sweet and life-giving spiritual food and the same drink - the Holy Mysteries of Your Body and Blood, and material food and drinks of sweetness; You clothe me with a bright, beautiful, royal robe - with Yourself, according to the Scripture: those who were baptized into Christ have put on Christ (Gal. 3:27), and with material clothes of beauty in the temple and outside it; You cleanse my sins, You heal and purify my sinful passions, many and fierce, You take away my spiritual corruption in the power of Your immeasurable goodness, wisdom and strength; fill me with Your Holy Spirit, the Spirit of holiness, grace, give my soul truth, peace and joy, space, strength, boldness, courage, strength; You endow my body with precious health; You teach my hands to fight and my fingers to fight (Ps. 143:1) with the invisible enemies of my salvation and bliss and with the enemies of the holiness and power of Your glory - with the spirits of wickedness in high places; You crown my deeds done in Your name with success. For all this I thank, glorify and bless Your all-good, fatherly, all-powerful power, O God, our Savior, our Benefactor. But be known as you were known to me, O Lover of Mankind, and to your other people, so that they may know You, the Father of all, Your goodness, Your providence, Your wisdom and power, and glorify You with the Father and the Holy Spirit now and ever and to the ages of ages. Amen.
The highest form of gratitude to God for everything
There are many prayers of thanksgiving that you can choose to suit your occasion.
Basil the Great recommended: preface any appeal with Doxology and repentance, and only then voice the request. Therefore, almost any prayer consists of three parts. Determine the right one yourself. By adding to the address the words: “Thy will be done, and not mine, O God,” show cherished humility. Church services are structured in the same order. The Eucharist comes first. Participation in it is the most effective thanksgiving to God for everything. Communion is the highest good for a person, and gratitude to the Almighty Father for all Gifts, especially for the opportunity to accept the Divine fire, to merge with Christ through His Blood and Body.
Conclusion: You must always thank God, everywhere, for everything and constantly many times a day. But during the Liturgy, saying “Lord, have mercy” once means more than all the prayers read at home, even if you master 150 psalms.
Prayer to the Most Holy Trinity of Saint Righteous John of Kronstadt 5
O Trinity, our God, simple Being, who created our soul in Your image, that in You we have our life and peace! O Trinity, our Nourisher and Hope! Give us in You alone to always place our hope, in You alone to find life and peace. About the Trinity! You, like a mother, carry us all in Your arms and feed us all from Your hands, like the most tender mother! You never forget and will not forget us; for You Yourself said: even if a woman forgets her child, I will not forget you (Is. 49:15), that is, I will not cease to nourish, protect, defend and save you.

Ingratitude is pride
It turns out that thanks to us, we perform a miracle - we work together with God.
He gives, and we accept His gift. If there is no feeling of Gratitude, we are closed to the penetration of Light. We remain petrified, we do not transform. Why do Angels constantly Praise God? They “feed” on His energy. In order not to die, we need to eat. Thanksgiving is also necessary so that by connecting with the Lord we can be deified. A striking example of the absence of this feeling is Dennitsa. Having become proud, having lost his connection to the Creator, he imagined himself to be a god. Having once been the most beautiful of creatures, he turned into Satan - a terrible monster. Thank God we cannot see his current form.
Note: God bears with us much, but He cannot endure murmuring. Because this indicates a complete lack of gratitude. The Lord leaves such a person. Demons become his masters.
What is the power of prayer?
It is believed that the akathist “Glory to God for everything” is the most powerful prayer in difficult and unusual circumstances, even when a person does not have the strength to pray.
But this prayer has special power by agreement, i.e. when people agree at one time to thank God or call upon him in home prayers or at general meetings. This is recommended by the most authoritative priests. Reading a hymn created in the most difficult times for the church brightens people’s souls and a quiet delight arises. And those who want to truly thank the Lord should read the prayer “Glory to God for everything!” at least once.
