The meaning of the word pillar

Emblem of the Russian Ministry of Justice.
On the shield on the eagle's chest is a pillar of the law. Pillar of the Law

(
pillar of the Law
,
Senate coinage
) is a historical Russian emblem, which is a column topped with a crown with a rectangular shield with the inscription “law” (in some cases “law”). The pillar is a symbol traditionally used to indicate involvement in the administration of the law.

Russian empire

The emblem was introduced in the Russian Empire. For the first time it was minted on the reverse side of the medals “In memory of the coronation of Emperor Alexander I in 1801”[1][2].

When uniforms were introduced for the Governing Senate in the same 1801, buttons with the state emblem were initially offered, but then gilded flat buttons with an image were installed for senators, which therefore later received the name “Senate coinage” and was called that way in official documents[2]. The description of the senators' uniform said:

Gilded buttons with the image of a column on them, on which, closer to the top, there is an inscription on a special shield across the column: law

, and at the top of this column is placed the Imperial crown[3][4].

Symbols of institutions of the Russian Empire:

  • Buttons for the uniforms of officials of the Senate Chancery[2][5][6].
  • Since 1804 - buttons on the uniforms of officials of the Law Drafting Commission (abolished in 1826)[2].

After the 1917 revolution, the “pillar of law” ceased to be used.

Zakat

Wealthy Muslims are required to pay 2.5% of their property to poor fellow believers once a year. This is a kind of tax, which in Islam is called “zakat”, which literally means “purification”.

Paying zakat is an obligation, one of the pillars of Islam, and not just voluntary alms or donation. The true owner of everything we have is Allah Almighty. If the Almighty has given you more wealth than other Muslims, you have an obligation to share the surplus with those in need.

Zakat is not paid on property that a person uses in everyday life, such as housing, vehicles, clothing or household utensils. Only those who, throughout the entire lunar year, own a certain amount of money in the form of savings, gold, silver, own livestock, goods for sale, etc. are obligated to pay zakat.

According to Shariah, less wealthy people are not obliged to ask for financial assistance from wealthier ones, since they have a legal right to receive zakat, and the rich, by giving them part of their property, fulfill their religious duty.

Allah Almighty has defined in the Quran the categories of people who have the right to receive zakat. Zakat is intended for the beggars who have no property at all, those unable to earn a living, the poor, debtors who are unable to pay their debts, people who collect and distribute zakat, those who have recently embraced Islam and need support, slaves who can be released for a ransom, people who have dedicated themselves to serving Islam, and travelers who find themselves without funds on the way.

In addition to zakat on property, Muslims pay purification alms (zakat al-fitr) once a year at the end of the month of Ramadan. In order for the payment of this alms in favor of the poor to become obligatory for a Muslim, the condition is not to own a set amount of property for the entire lunar year; it is enough to be in abundance on the holiday when this type of zakat is paid.

The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, warned Muslims against stinginess and the passion for hoarding. Anyone who accumulates property and does not pay zakat on it will face a severe punishment after death. Zakat is intended to cure the poor from envy, and the rich from stinginess and selfishness, and to establish good relations in society between the rich and the poor.

Second Pillar of Islam: Prayer

Performing prayer (namaz) five times a day, every day strictly at the allotted time is an Islamic obligation for every adult Muslim.

Prayer is the greatest form of worship, which includes exalting Allah, His praise (tasbih), supplication, reading the Koran, dhikrs, bows and prostrations. The Almighty ordered Muslims to maintain prayer in the same way as he prescribed it to previous prophets and their communities.

The Holy Quran does not give instructions on how prayers should be performed, but there are instructions on specific points regarding the time and formulas of prayers, as well as those movements that should be performed in prayer.

The order of prayer developed as a result of the imitative actions of the postures and movements that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ performed on the part of the first Muslims. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ encouraged his ummah to pray as he was seen praying. There are a number of rules that regulate the uniformity of performing namaz.

Prayer formulas and all words of prayer are pronounced only in Arabic. The difference in prayer formulas may be due to the madhhab (legal school).

The daily cycle of prayers includes five obligatory prayers (fard):

  1. morning Fajr prayer, consisting of two rak'ahs and performed from dawn to sunrise;
  2. the midday zuhr prayer, consisting of four rak'ahs, which is performed from the zenith to the moment when the shadow of an object becomes equal to the object itself;
  3. the pre-evening Asr prayer, consisting of four rak'ahs, which is performed in the period after the end of the midday prayer until the time when the sun begins to set;
  4. evening Maghrib prayer, which consists of three rak'ahs and is performed between sunset and darkness,
  5. night prayer isha, which consists of four rak'ahs and is performed from late evening until midnight.

In some cases, the midday prayer can be combined with the pre-evening prayer, and the evening prayer can be combined with the night prayer. Praying is prohibited exactly at noon and immediately at the moment of sunrise and sunset.

In addition to ritual prayers, a Muslim has the opportunity to turn to Allah Almighty through dua (supplication), which can be pronounced in any language and at any time of the day. Namaz can be performed individually or collectively in a special place that is suitable for its performance.

Friday Juma prayer has a special social significance and should be performed in a mosque; Muslims listen to the imam's sermon and then perform a collective prayer.

Muslims perform not only obligatory, but also voluntary prayers, which also fall into the category of godly prayers.

Image in culture

Even during the period of use of the emblem in the Russian Empire, an epigram appeared criticizing the state of affairs in the field of law:

In Russia there is no law, There is a pillar, and on the pillar there is a crown[36].

Option:

There is no law in Russia. In Russia there is a pillar. The law is nailed to the pillar, And on the pillar there is a crown[37].

This poem was groundlessly attributed to A.S. Pushkin[38][39][40][41]. For the first time, under his name, it was published in the publication by N.V. Gerbel[42] “Poems by A.S. Pushkin, not included in the last collection of his works” (1861)[43]

Three pillars of Putin's power

Being in power is difficult: you need to understand a lot in various areas of management. But there is an excellent guide, or, as they say nowadays, a “life hack”. Despite its antiquity, this manual is still relevant today, and it was written, without any exaggeration, by the genius of politics - Machiavelli. This manual is called “Sovereign”. Without a doubt, Vladimir Putin, like many successful politicians, read and re-read it.

Sergey Lebedev, specially for PIKinform

There are three pillars of power on which a ruler must rely.

This is the army, the elite and the people. Moreover, a balance must be maintained between them, no matter how difficult it may seem. What is happening in Russia?

The first step was to raise the army and, accordingly, the military-industrial complex.

The military-industrial complex brings developments in science and technology, but this is not always quickly implemented in everyday life. And it’s good that the military-industrial complex is a separate structure, otherwise, I’m afraid someone would have drilled holes in Kalibr too.

However, our liberal-communist “friends” constantly insist that it would be better if grandmothers were given a pension than invested in the army.

They say everyone should be peaceful and smiling, like in American family comedies. However, we live in reality. And even if we don’t take into account NATO that has approached the borders of the Russian Federation, and turn a blind eye to the fact that various terrorist groups are financed by “foreign partners,” then what happened with Libya should shake off all sorts of confusion.

Let me remind you: Gaddafi cared about the people.

The standard of living in this North African country was worthy of dreams. Among other things, the Libyan authorities have launched a project to extract fresh water from under the planet’s desert floor. And the Libyan leader practically united many of the African countries. And that’s not all: a single currency was planned for the countries of the region – the “golden dinar”. We already know how it all ended.

Eight years since democracy came to those lands.

Perhaps it is worth developing weapons first, and only then thinking about the comfort for the population?! That's what Putin did. And at the moment, nothing threatens Russia militarily. But not because everyone is so peace-loving and chocolatey, there is only one reason - Russia can fight back at such a level that any enemy will have irreparable losses.

Also, almost at the very beginning, the GDP destroyed the “seven bankers” - this is that part of the “elite” that was impossible to control, there was no one there to negotiate with either. However, oligarchs, millionaires, and billionaires remained. And “Western partners”, with the help of the media, regularly notify us about their lives, so that ordinary people are constantly indignant.

By the way, in terms of information, the “partners” are doing very well. The people react, the people get angry, the people... begin to call for people to take to the streets. So far under plausible pretexts.

Contrasting the elite and the people is one of the main methods of “our partners” in all centuries.

In opposition there is always a split, mistrust, mutual hatred and, as a consequence, a coup of power. Moreover, the elite is not really the Elite that one should be proud of.

But the elite is also changing. We constantly try to choose interesting things in the news.

The problem with power is that it does not know how to present it in an interesting way, since that is what is required. Last year there were a lot of layoffs, government officials, and a lot of good ideas from the president and his inner circle. Of course, these ideas will be sabotaged by the authorities, from the head of the housing office to... All this angers the people. Pushes him away from supporting the authorities.

And at the same time, if you look without hysteria, then

No matter how “professional Russians” shout that trust in the authorities and in the president has fallen quite dramatically recently, we see an interesting picture. There is nowhere to park the car, because the “poor” Russians bought a lot of cars. Yes, transport interchanges need to be expanded and new ones built. Supermarkets are not closing. On the contrary, they are thriving! Is it “no price” to buy? Mothers with strollers, well-groomed sidewalks. The same taxi drivers, manicurists, massage therapists, tutors... earn quite decent money. And this is the service sector, which simply dies if the country and people are poor. Let's remember the 90s?

But they heat you up with information so much that you are ready to buy salt, matches and cartridges in hysterics!

Yes, sanctions, despite the hysteria of jingoistic patriots, have dealt and are causing a serious blow to the economy. But there is only one reason for this: Russia did not become the West’s cash cow during the 2008 crisis. In the 90s, it was by raking out assets and real product in exchange for candy wrappers and vouchers that the West received a reprieve from the global crisis. History did not repeat itself in 2008.

Despite the fact that Dmitry Medvedev was president in 2008, the West failed to expand in Georgia and destroy the resisting nations. All this was remembered and required solutions.

In 2012, GDP became president and away we go...

But the West pays its main attention to the third pillar – THE PEOPLE.

If nothing can be done with the army, and the elite can be blackmailed, then the people are a different topic. Especially when the people have a high degree of trust in their leader.

It is impossible to take us by external aggression; we have always been split from within.

Even if you are the most ideal ruler, if there is no support from the people, there will be a new Troubles. There is a lot of injustice, the officials are arrogant, it all irritates. But just trust the Nikolaev resident who went to Donbass in 2014: the state is protection from the fact that a bomb is thrown at the cafe while your daughter is there.

The state is what allows you and your wife to sleep peacefully. The enemy incites fear and other low emotions in you. But when was the last time you personally gave a bribe? When the police didn’t listen to you personally or the ambulance didn’t come to you? And if you read on the Internet, it happens to almost everyone, every day.

Have you ever wondered why they provoke you?

You are one of the foundations of Russia, and if you go against it, then Russia simply will not exist.
