Feng Shui of a studio apartment

Each residential building has its own energy. If it is in harmony with the vital energy of the people living in the house, everything goes very well for them. The ancient Chinese teaching of Feng Shui teaches how to get rid of bad energy and activate positive energy.

Such a problem as energy harmonization is present among residents of high-rise buildings, since these apartments are small and there are many wires and various communications in them.

Feng Shui is very important in a person’s life, because thanks to it you can change your life for the better.

If this positive energy is not enough, a person feeds on it not at home, but at work, walking with friends or simply going shopping. Using different screens, mirrors, paintings and bells you can call positive energy into your home.

Feng Shui apartments

  • To determine how your apartment is located, you need to get a compass and see where north is, this is where the marking of your apartment will begin. But the compass readings may not be accurate as it can be affected by any metal that is nearby.
  • This can also be done using a map on the Internet. You just need to find your home on an online map and determine its location. The top of the map is north, the bottom is south, the left side is west, and the right side is east. Northeast is in the top right corner, southeast is in the bottom right corner, northwest is in the top left corner, and southwest is in the bottom left corner.
  • Next you need to find the center of the apartment. If your house is the right shape, it will be located where the diagonals intersect.
  • After this, divide the apartment plan into 9 equal squares.
  • Having divided the apartment plan into parts, check it with a map on the Internet so that the angle of rotation of the apartment relative to the axis is clear.

A studio is an apartment consisting of a main room, a separate kitchen or a kitchen located in an alcove of the room, and a bathroom. I have been in several houses where the bathroom was communal, that is, it was used by the inhabitants of two studios located on the same floor.

Such apartments are often extremely small, and the inhabitants tend to clutter them with furniture, which impedes the free flow of qi. Clutter is another bane of small apartments, and those living in them need to be extremely organized and disciplined to keep everything in its place.

The best studios are square, rectangular and L-shaped. In Feng Shui, the L-shape is usually considered undesirable, but in this case it allows you to create an almost separate room for a bedroom or dining room.

Using the influences of the bagua or your trigram, determine the positive and negative places in the apartment. For a small studio, I personally would prefer to use the principle of Bagua influences, although I would certainly check the principle of trigrams to find out whether the apartment belongs to the same group as my trigram.

The most important thing in a studio is the location of the bed. Once you define it, the rest of the space is organized around it. You may get lucky and there will be two or three places in the studio that are favorable for installing a bed. In this case, make your choice based on the principles of the influences of the bagua or eight places. However, usually, especially in small apartments, there is only one suitable place for the bed.

The bed should have protection, which can be provided by a screen or bookcase. The bed should touch the wall and the foot of the bed should not face the door. The bed should not be pinched by walls or furniture. Once I had to sleep on a bed in an alcove for several nights in a row. The bed touched the walls on three sides, and I felt cramped and pressurized, although the bed itself was of normal size. Anyone who has slept in such a bed for a long time will experience restrictions and pressure in life.

In an apartment with a sloping ceiling, the bed should be placed in the place where the ceiling height is maximum. The lower the ceiling, the more limited the qi. Sloping ceilings and exposed ceiling beams interfere with the flow of chi.

Many people use their bed as a sofa during the day. In this case, it should be made as similar to a sofa as possible. Use a bright bedspread and large pillows for this. If you don't use your bed during the day, cover it with a screen.

If your kitchen is not separated from the main room, it should also be covered with a screen when you are not using it.

Place the table so that as much light as possible falls on it. It will be more fun, and besides, this is important if you not only work, but also dine at this table. Make room around the table. We should have some space when eating or working.

The sofa or ottoman should be placed so that the person sitting on it feels comfortable and cozy. Wherever you sit, you should be able to see the front door. If you spend a lot of time on the sofa, position it so that you can see the door without turning your head.

Once the bed, table and sofa have found their places, the rest of the furniture can be arranged at your discretion.

The apartment should create a feeling of comfort and harmony, so you should think about how to adapt it to your interests. Naturally, your apartment should reflect your personality and interests, even if you only intend to live there for a short time. Photos and other memorabilia should be displayed where they can be easily seen.

If you work in your apartment, its living and working parts should be separated from each other. A friend of mine who is trying to make a career as a screenwriter in Hollywood works at a desk positioned so that the bed is behind him, out of sight. He has a wonderful view from the window, and in a sense, he is outside the house while working. Having finished working, he covers the table with the computer with a screen. That is, while working, he is focused on what he is writing, and the apartment’s furnishings do not distract him. And when the working day is over, the workplace is hidden from view, so that he can enjoy relaxation without thinking about work. By the way, his table is in the glory zone.

Feng Shui zones

To divide a house into Feng Shui zones, you will need a Lo Shu square or a Bagua grid.

It is said that this square was drawn on the tortoise's shell by the gods. But only Fu Xi, the great sage, could solve this riddle. This happened almost a thousand years ago.

Feng Shui says that everything that happens in a person’s life can be divided into nine categories. They have their own strict order and form a Bagua square. Each area is responsible for a certain part of life.

  1. First you need to put a Bagua grid on the house plan, so you can see the location and influence of zones in its parts. The very first zone to be established is the Career zone; this is done by aligning the north on the housing plan and map.
  2. Then using a compass and a Bagua square, you can easily determine the position of the remaining 8 zones.
  3. Sometimes there is no southwest and southeast feng shui zone in an apartment that has an irregular shape.

Interior and layout of the apartment according to Feng Shui

The carriers of Yin and Yang energy are basically all elements of the apartment’s interior. There is Yin energy in objects that have a streamlined shape, carpets, patterns with soft lines, upholstered furniture, and smooth muted colors. Yang energy contains objects with sharp edges, triangular and pyramidal patterns, aggressive bright colors, leather furniture, and products made from polymer and synthetic materials.

The main task when creating is the unity of the artistic direction, the combination of individual elements and a harmonious totality. A successful layout in a one-room apartment involves creating coziness and comfort in a living space, where it is pleasant to relax and where you can invite friends.

Picturesque original images on the ceiling, walls, furniture and doors help create the illusion of reality, bring positive events into life, and also increase the space.

Working as a Feng Shui consultant, you often come across the fact that people, after reading several books, are discouraged when they do not find examples in them related to ordinary apartments, of which there are many in Russia. Most people in our country live in apartments, often small ones. Sometimes you hear: how can all these Feng Shui principles be applied to our small living space, since everything that is described in books applies to houses, not on 6 acres, but in a place where there are hills, rivers, and forest? In fact, the principles of Feng Shui can always be applied, perhaps not to the full extent, but at least to some extent.

Here we will look at a typical one-room apartment from a Feng Shui point of view and make a number of rearrangements. But when using these instructions in relation to your homes, please try to perceive it creatively, try to see the principle behind each specific action. And then, even if your apartment does not end up in our magazine, you will be able to apply any of these principles to your home yourself. But, of course, in order to get a full consultation, especially if something remains unclear, you should contact specialists.

Here is a typical one-room apartment, using the example of which we will look at how to apply Feng Shui remedies in modern conditions. You need to understand that it is impossible to fit all the principles and rules of Feng Shui in one article, but you can illustrate how to use at least some of them. This example should not be taken as the only possibility for arranging furniture in apartments of this layout. There are always several solutions to every Feng Shui problem. We offer only one of the options.

Feng Shui tips for an apartment

To be in harmony with the world around you, you need to follow some rules.

The first rule is to maintain order and cleanliness in your home. You should not put unnecessary trash, especially in front of the entrance, because such storage attracts negative energy. Dirty shoes, various rags and mops also do this. A clean front door is the key to a clean and safe home.

According to Feng Shui, large windows in a house are very good. Since through them a lot of sunlight and positive qi energy enters the room. If your windows are dusty and dirty, it means that bad energy has accumulated on them; to avoid this, wash them periodically.

Blinds, heavy curtains and bars are not welcome on windows - they do not allow light to pass through and interfere with the flow of energy into the house. And also you can’t fill the window sills with pots of flowers. You can put several beautiful and definitely healthy plants, but these should not be cacti, they should not be placed near windows at all.

The second rule is to periodically throw away all unnecessary things from the premises. Items that you have long stopped using or that are outdated have the ability to collect negativity around them. Therefore, look more often at the mezzanine, in cabinets, tables and chests of drawers. Without regret, throw away all the things you no longer need. And also check your first aid kit and your cosmetics bag, do not forget to throw away products that have expired.

The third rule is the rearrangement of objects. The Chinese are convinced that this will help not to stagnate energy. You don't have to move the furniture, but you must rearrange 27 items. You can swap photo frames or rearrange vases and figurines.

If you like to read, then remember that books can attract bad energy. So, rearrange them more often, while wiping them with a cloth soaked in saline solution.

Place to sleep

During sleep, the nervous system rests and the body is filled with energy, so this area requires special attention. Do not place your bed next to a window or indoor plants - this will drain energy from you. Try not to have household appliances nearby, as they will make your sleep restless. There should be no shelves or racks above the bed; they are dangerous and interfere with the circulation of energy.

It is difficult to follow all the tips in an apartment where there is little space, but there are some things you can do:

  1. The first thing to do is throw away all unnecessary things. All cleaning should be done when the moon is waning.
  2. It is necessary to clean the room by fumigating it. This is done after every general cleaning. After fumigation, take a cold shower, this will help get rid of bad energy.
  3. Use amulets, they should be Slavic or Eastern.
  4. Activate the areas that interest you most.
  5. To divide the apartment into zones, use a screen.
