Archpastor
Vladyka, just yesterday I read information that mass vaccination against coronavirus could start in Russia in the fall. The draft of the new Code of Administrative Offenses included fines for refusing compulsory vaccination - a frightening initiative, but Rospotrebnadzor immediately clarified that they only threaten those performing work associated, for example, with a high risk of contracting infectious diseases; Doctors have no choice - for them it is mandatory. The fine for refusal is from 5 to 7 thousand rubles, and so far the Code of Administrative Offenses does not provide for punishment for refusing vaccinations. What do you think about this initiative?

– I will probably share the opinion of many people who are extremely wary of this kind of unconditional decisions. We talk all the time about the importance of each person's freedom of choice - and the freedom to choose a lifestyle. For example, a person becomes socially dangerous - he is isolated, but for this there is a completely clear and precise framework of danger. Is my distrust of new medical drugs that are being introduced dangerous? This drug is completely new, there is no experience of use for it yet - we do not know how deeply this mechanism can act on the human body in the present or future. Therefore, talking about the unconditional use of something that has not yet been verified by experience is not only unacceptable, but, in my opinion, extremely dangerous.

The initiative to establish a fine also leaves a lot of gaps. What if this drug is completely contraindicated for a person? It’s new – we don’t even know about contraindications, allergic or other reactions yet. What could happen next?

I will ask the question differently: will the state be held responsible if compulsory vaccination not only does not bring benefits, but also causes harm to health? Who will take responsibility?

The law says nothing about this, and this causes even greater concern. Forgive me, I’ll give you this example: when a socially dangerous person is deprived of the opportunity to move freely and communicate, the state takes responsibility for maintaining this person. And here the other side does not bear any responsibility - this also adds fears and doubts, of which there are already many today, they are very widely circulated among people.

Is there at least one document in the Church's documents that concerns vaccination?

– That’s exactly what it’s about – no. But in the “Fundamentals of the Social Concept of the Russian Orthodox Church” much attention is paid to preserving human health and manipulations that can preserve health or harm it (for example, organ transplantation and the like). Everywhere it is clearly emphasized that man himself is called upon to take care of his health and treat it with care.

Taking good care of your health also means getting sick responsibly and correctly in order to try to overcome the disease using the body’s natural forces. And this is a natural desire of a person to preserve the gift of God - health.

Now there are many articles on the Internet about how vaccination is seen as sabotage and a conspiracy. What do you say about the widely discussed theory about plans to chip the population under the guise of vaccination? The goal is to reduce the human population. There is information that a patent has already been registered, the number of which contains three sixes.

– A person’s free choice is also conditioned by a moral choice. Naturally, when I am offered something that is absolutely obligatory, without taking into account not only my opinion, but also my physical abilities, the reactions of my body, this causes the deepest concerns. The fears are not just based on how I will feel - they are about the most important thing: can I say yes and can I say no? After all, it cannot be that they married me without me: this leads not only to further deepest tragedies, but truly breaks a person’s destiny.

I cannot judge how justified the talk is that it is supposed to introduce some microorganisms and so on: this is a question for researchers. These kinds of statements should be answered by scientists who will actually say that these microorganisms or micromechanisms can be harmful, beneficial, and so on. But the choice must remain with the person, and he must have a complete picture of what step he is taking; that's for sure.

Today, even a simple flight on an airplane or a trip on a train presupposes certain insurance conditions, and a person understands that he is in some way exposing his life to risks, that different circumstances may happen. And the person consciously does this - including fastening himself with a seat belt, realizing that this can save his life in some situations. It's the same here. We must know and understand all the risks and everything that is behind this kind of manipulation.

Are the priests trying to read some signs of the approaching Apocalypse in this situation?

– Perhaps the most important sign is indifference to those around you, or a completely indifferent attitude towards your own spiritual life. When a person becomes extremely irritable, very hot-tempered, when he has almost forgotten what it means to forgive, what it means to support someone, to be the first to smile - it seems to me that for this person the apocalypse is already on the very threshold. In conversations with my spiritual children, I say: the end of the world is not coming outside the windows of my house - the end of the world is coming inside my home, my heart, my own life. This is where I must stand guard.

External things can never become an insurmountable barrier to my faith. My faith is higher than all fences if it is filled with living actions.

In addition to vaccination against coronavirus, parents are now worried about another upcoming innovation. There is information that the Federation Council is developing a bill to prevent children from entering schools and kindergartens without vaccinations. They explain that this is for the further development of the economy and social sphere in new conditions.

On the one hand, in Soviet times we were all vaccinated against BCG, and such mass vaccination helped Russia cope with this virus more easily compared to other countries. On the other hand, can anyone other than parents decide whether to vaccinate a child or not? Whose responsibility should this be?

– In my opinion, the decision should be made by the parents. And, of course, it must be based on broad, informed opinion. It seems to me that such issues should be discussed at the broadest and highest medical level - and we need to listen to advice not only from one type of specialist, but also from opponents. Simply put, the medical discussion itself must lead to a certain denominator - there must be variability: if you do not take this vaccine, you must be prepared for the fact that there are such and such risks, but then you will have a treatment regimen or additional therapy. But there cannot be certain unconditionality here - there must always be a choice.

Vladyka, people often turn to you for advice on whether they should vaccinate their child? Do such questions irritate you?

– They contact me often, but it’s not annoying at all – on the contrary, it’s very cool. I want to say that in recent years I have been amazed at the education and preparedness of parents. I see wonderful young girls who study this problem very deeply (and often enlighten me with all sorts of medical research in different countries).

I always adhere to the point of view that it is necessary to collect maximum information, at least from several authoritative sources that you can trust - for example, get information from well-known institutes, academic schools, is it necessary to do this or can you find an alternative that will be less harmful , toxic or, on the contrary, will allow one’s own immune system to develop - and the person will gain experience in overcoming this or that disease.

Is it possible to help with medication against a person’s will? For example, hangover syndrome: relatives want to put a person in the hospital, but he is against it...

– Here you need to be guided by the adequacy and consciousness of the person himself. In the church rules, for example, there is a very clear and understandable explanation: if a person is unconscious or cannot consciously answer a question related to Confession or the reception of the sacraments, he is not confessed or given communion in an unconscious or inadequate state - he must fully consciously understand , what step he is taking and what is happening to him now.

It’s the same here: we have rehabilitation centers that help you make the right decision. First, a person is given the opportunity to be in some isolation and look at himself soberly, and then make a decision - to change his life or not.

Vladyka, as usual, your optimistic final words...

– Dear brothers and sisters! I think each of us knows the difference in the words “this needs to be done!” and “don’t be afraid, this needs to be done.” In the first case, we are forced, and in the second case, we are loved, although they also call us. When we are loved, we are not afraid - then they are ready to share with us everything that awaits us. Grant, Lord, that each of us, wanting to help another person, does not force with words that “this is necessary,” but says as Christ says in the Gospel: “Do not be afraid, I am with you.”

God bless you!
