Archangels are disembodied spirits possessing intelligence, immortality, power and will. They were created by God as ministering spirits. Depending on the type of service and degree of perfection, they have their own hierarchy, which consists of 9 ranks. The ranks are divided into 3 hierarchies, with three ranks in each.
The first order, closest to the Holy Trinity, is the Seraphim, Cherubim and Thrones. The second rank is Power, Dominance and Strength, and the third, closest to us, is the Principalities, Archangels and Angels.
Translated from Greek, the word angel means messenger. Biblical history tells of their appointment as messengers from God to people. It is impossible for a person to fully understand their significance, role and way of life. They live in a spiritual world, not subject to the material laws in which humanity lives.
The prefix “archi” means that these creatures have a more significant service than other angels. According to Holy Scripture, there are seven Archangels.
Saint Archangel Michael stands out among all with his special role. This is the most famous and revered among the ethereal heavenly forces created by God. He is called the Archangel Michael, because he is the leader of the Heavenly army, whose goal is to fight the heavenly evil, or demons.

The image of the Heavenly Warrior is depicted in many paintings and icons. He is depicted as a young man with wings. The spear or sword of Archangel Michael, as symbols of the Heavenly Governor, is always in the hand.

Story
Historians suggest that people first learned about Archangel Michael back in the 8th century BC. It is impossible to guess with great accuracy where Mikhail was born and lived. But historians agree that Persia should be considered the saint’s homeland. (see Navruz Bayram in 2021)
The man was very influential and popular, which means that in ancient Persia Michael was respected in high society. The inhabitants of the Euphrates and Tigris knew about this person.
From legends and historical documents of the 8th century BC, we learn that Michael lived on one of the three mountain peaks. Scientists have found that these peaks belonged to peoples whose main deity was Odin. From Norse mythology, we understand that the three mountains represent father Odin, his brother Loki and son Thor. The birth or residence of the Archangel in one of these places suggests an association, held by the people, between the pagan deities and Michael.
Memorial Day, and possibly the saint’s birthday, is September 29. For pagans, it is a celebration of the Earth or a day of fertility, when the harvest ends.
For a long time, Michael was the patron of the German troops and Scandinavians. This lets us know that the Vikings believed in this saint and revered him at the level of their Scandinavian religion.
In different religions, the personality of Michael is not clear; his activities are not interpreted in the same way. In Islam, the Archangel holds the post of God's messenger. He has his own sacred army, it helps the saint fight the forces of evil. As a lawyer at the Last Judgment, this person, according to Muslim beliefs, protects sinners.

For Christians, the answers about the origin and significance of Archangel Michael are found in the Bible. It says that before the appearance of Adam and Eve, a terrible war took place in heaven. Several angels, led by Dennitsa, rebelled against the Creator. They paid for their sin by being cast out of heaven. This is how Hell appeared, and the angels and Dennitsa became devils in the power of the Devil.
When a confrontation between two forces arose - Good and Evil, God needed an angel ready to stand guard over the heavenly abode. He chose Michael the Archangel for this task. This saint holds the keys to the gates of heaven. According to Catholic beliefs, Michael allows the soul into heaven, but does not have the right to release it.
The Story of Archangel Michael
Humanity does not know the date, conditions of birth and life of the Archangel Michael. We can only glean information about the Heavenly Warrior from the Bible and church tradition.
The name Michael, translated from Hebrew, means “equal to God,” or “who is like God.”
According to the Law of God, the Lord endowed the angelic order with free will to choose between good and evil. Unlike humans, they could use their will once.
Holy Scripture tells that one of the most powerful and bright angels named Dennitsa - the disembodied spirit closest to God - became proud and began to resist God and slander Him.
Having imagined himself above God, Dennitsa seduced a third of the angels. At this moment in the history of the creation of the world, the angelic order made its choice, using the free will given by God.
As a result of this revolution, the first in the history of the universe, a war occurred between the angels who took the side of God and His opponents.

As a result, the battle between Archangel Michael and Satan took place, after which the former Dennitsa and his angelic comrades-in-arms were cast out of heaven into the heavenly places, and are now within the earth. They became dark and vile spirits. Those who were angels became demons, and Dennitsa became the devil, or Satan.
The Holy Letter describes it as follows:
“And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought [against them], but they did not stand, and there was no longer room for them in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that ancient serpent, called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world, he was cast out to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.”

We can read several plots of the Archangel’s acts in the Holy Scriptures.
He shows his aid to Joshua when the Israelites conquered the Promised Land. Elsewhere, during the fall of the Babylonian kingdom, the Heavenly warrior appears to the prophet Daniel. The Prophet Daniel also set forth the revelation of future help from Michael to the people of God in the difficult times of the Antichrist.
The Archangel showed many different phenomena and miracles to Christians during the New Testament. Let us outline the most famous ones from the history of the church.
Miracle in Khoneh
In the 4th century, near the city of Hierapolis, in Phrygia, there was a Christian temple in honor of the Archangel Michael, and with it a miraculous spring. The pagans, stung by the special veneration of the people of this holy place, sent a stream of water from two rivers down the slope so that the water would destroy the temple.
Seeing this misfortune, the deacon of the temple prayed to the Archangel, who appeared and struck the ground with a spear. The stream of water went into the huge hole formed by the impact. In honor of this miracle, a holiday was established on September 19.

Plague in Rome
In 590, a plague raged across the Roman Empire. To get rid of the epidemic, Pope Gregory the Great held a prayer service. During the religious procession, on the roof of Hadrian’s mausoleum, he saw the shining Archangel Michael sheathing his sword.

Rescue of Sipontus
In 630, the Roman Empire city of Sipontus was besieged by pagans. The Archangel appeared to the bishop of the city and announced that he would not allow the destruction of the population. After this, the pagans, frightened by the appearance of the Heavenly Warrior, accepted the Christian faith.

Grateful residents wanted to build a temple in honor of Michael. However, he again appeared to the bishop and said that a temple miraculously built for Him had already been erected in a cave. The inhabitants found it and it still exists today.

The Sinner Who Became a Saint
During the reign of Trajan (98-177), the beautiful Eudokia lived. She was engaged in entertainment, sinful deeds and was very rich. One day, having heard words about repentance and the Last Judgment, she wanted to know about the path of salvation.
After a conversation with the monk, she began to pray earnestly and fast with tears. A week later, a radiant young man appeared to her, who introduced himself as Archangel Michael and spoke about the joy in Heaven that awaits the righteous.
Having received holy baptism, Evdokia dedicated her subsequent life to the Lord. In 152 she accepted martyrdom.

Saving Novgorod
In 1239, Batu Khan decided to ruin Novgorod. However, on the way to the city, Archangel Michael appeared on the path of Batu’s army and stopped him. While in Kyiv, and seeing a fresco depicting Mikhail, Batu admitted that he forbade him to go to Veliky Novgorod, the character depicted in the fresco.

Let's talk to you, being in close contact, to transfer my energy to you. I am often called the protector of the Earth. Together with my legions, I guard the field of this planet. The battle of the titans raged and continues to rage. This is a struggle between good and evil, between male and female. This is the division of existence in which people are occupied. Now this period is ending and gives people uncertainty. They get caught up in their own emotions about everything that comes into their lives that seems out of control. This is part of the events taking place, dear Masters.
Why do I call you Masters? You are the ones who are honing your Mastery of being Human here. We have great respect for you and take off our hats in deep bow. Do you know that you are a Master? You think that you are only human. But you know everything that I know, it’s just that not everything is open in you yet. You consider yourself ignorant and incapable. Believe me, there is a core of knowledge hidden deep within you that you need to uncover.
You and I are equal. I am no bigger, no higher, no more developed than you. You simply are not aware of all your abilities and Divine qualities. And this is our difference. Many of you have known me for a very, very long time. We may be fighting together in other corners of this dual system. We fight our opponents and offer our Light, which is often refused to be accepted. You are very familiar with this pain of powerlessness when it is impossible to light the Light! This is the pain that prevents many old souls from awakening. They don’t like to look into themselves because they don’t want to see past lives. These are remnants of the old struggle between Light and darkness.
But look at all this with your upper vision: now is the period of the Great Awakening, and this applies not only to people, but also to many other planets that once fell into the field of the virus. Many other planets of the dual system of three- and four-dimensional levels laid down their swords, preferring the Sword of Light and Love to them. This Sword is not for fighting. This is the Sword of Truth, the Sword of Faith, the Sword of Love.
Sometimes we also use the Sword in these areas, because not everyone can still be convinced by Love and Light. They are not destroyed, as you may have seen in films. We invite them to stop and give them ideas on how to move on. They are offered places where they can relax and reflect on life.
As you can see, awakening has many paths and possibilities. We have come here, in this era of duality, to help this beautiful planet Earth follow its path. This is not just happening now. For eons we are here to clear and stabilize this path.
Do you want to be a Knight of Light? Let me give you the new Sword. Put aside the Sword of Struggle. Use the Sword of Light in your life! It is very powerful, non-hurting and very loyal. What does Archangel Michael help with?
One who is “like God” has great strength and power. Based on the cases of miraculous help described in the previous chapter and described in the Old Testament, this character of the spiritual world is capable of any help.
As a ministering spirit, he is the commander of the Heavenly Host.
Its main purpose is to protect the people of God from visible and invisible enemies.
This task was entrusted to him from the beginning of the creation of the world until the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. He is ready to protect both the entire church and every Christian from heresies, illnesses and difficult situations.
Therefore, it is very useful to turn to the Archangel Michael for help in your daily prayers.
Attributes
Images of the Archangel in different time periods are of great cultural significance. In every century, his actions and facial features change. But there are canons left unchanged. The saint is presented as a knight. It will not be possible to find an image in which this person is dressed in other clothes.
The depiction of armor in the original variation was in the Roman style. From this we can assume that Michael served as a Roman legionnaire. Behind him flutters a red cloak, which was characteristic of the warriors of the Roman Empire.
The entire body of the saint is protected by armor, except for the head. It is most often decorated with a crown, but there are also images with a helmet. It is worth noting Michael's long hair; in Ancient Rome this meant that a person had power.
The warrior is always depicted with a weapon. In the hands of the Archangel you can see a sword, less often a spear. Since the weapon is held by the saint, the sword is depicted as blazing light or fire.
Michael's second hand holds a shield. It is decorated with a monogram - an intricacy of Greek letters. Also on the shield is a Star of David with a cross. This reminds us that the Jews also share in this holy thing.
Sometimes Michael is found with a standard in his hands; these are icons of a later time.
Prayer to Saint Archangel Michael
O Saint Michael the Archangel, have mercy on us sinners who demand your intercession, deliver us, servant of God (names), from all visible and invisible enemies, and, moreover, strengthen us from mortal horror and from the embarrassment of the devil, and grant us the ability to unashamedly present ourselves to our Creator in the terrible hour and His righteous Judgment.
O all-holy, great Michael the Archangel! Do not despise us sinners who pray to you for help and your intercession in this world and in the future, but grant us there together with you to glorify the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit forever and ever. Amen.
How to celebrate Michaelmas?
For ordinary parishioners, this holiday now has no special meaning. But before, people honored November 8th as a special day and knew how to celebrate it correctly.
The whole day was accompanied by festivities, songs, dances and other fun events characteristic of the Slavs. In each house, guests were warmly greeted by the owners with treats and gifts. The houses were clean and tidy, residents of small villages and towns dressed in festive attire. The whole family gathered at the table; it was a reason for people to spend time together.
In Ancient Rus', treats were prepared from the harvested crops. On the tables one could see pies, cheesecakes, and pickles. The attributes of any celebration were intoxicating drinks, and since the saint’s day was celebrated, wine was especially popular.
The youth's party lasted for a long time, not limited to one day. This is due to the subsequent onset of the pre-Christmas fast, during which it was impossible to have fun.
Guests, as soon as they entered the threshold of the house, were treated to food. The main delicacy was jelly. At the end of the day, according to tradition, we drank tea with gingerbread and bagels.
