Archangel Jehudiel: life, patronage and prayers

Archangel Jehudiel is one of the main archangels in Orthodoxy. He is considered the patron saint of monks, hermits and those who work hard, tirelessly, and know how to cope with laziness.

In what cases do believers pray to the heavenly intercessor, the features of his image on icons, when the holiday is celebrated - we will reveal the above questions in today’s material.

Symbolism

The main symbols of Yehudiel are a golden crown and a whip with three ends, which in some images is replaced by a rod.
It has also become common for believers to assign other insignia to the revered archangels, such as colors and shades, aromas or natural stones. The latter can be both precious and valueless in the jewelry industry. However, it is not known for certain which stone is suitable for the Archangel Jehudiel. Today it is not customary to decorate icons with his face in any way, except for a gilded frame on top of a paint layer. But in the production of paints, sometimes ground stones are used: lapis lazuli, malachite or turquoise.

The color “Glorifying the Lord” is attributed to purple, so if you want to decorate its image, you can use agate, amethyst or charoite.

Thursday Prayer - Prayer to Archangel Uriel

All events taking place on Thursday are controlled by Archangel Uriel. He monitors the state of affairs in Hell, and sometimes plays the role of God's messenger. So, he notified Noah about the coming “end of the world.” That Archangel is responsible for enlightenment and his functions include filling the souls of people with love for God and destroying sinful attachments in them.

The prayer to him goes like this:

“Holy Archangel Uriel, you are illuminated by the Divine light and filled with fiery love for God. Throw a spark of love into my heart, let it flare up with sincere faith and all the dark corners of the soul will be illuminated with Divine light. Enlighten my mind with knowledge. Strengthen my will and guide me on the path of repentance. Pray to the Lord to forgive me my sins, of which I repent, and to deliver me from fiery hell. Amen".

The Importance of Prayer

You can often hear the following phrase from a person who is far from the life of the Church. “I don’t pray because I don’t know the words of the prayer and I don’t understand the Church Slavonic language.” This phrase contains the main misconception regarding the meaning of prayer. Prayers to the archangels for every day are no exception.

Prayer is, first of all, an appeal to God (the Most Holy Trinity - Father, Son and Holy Spirit). Also to the Mother of God, saints of God (saints), to the spiritual world (angels, archangels). The meaning of prayer is not simply to “read” words from a prayer book. But in dialogue, in communication with God and the grace-filled, sublime state that follows this dialogue.

Every prayer that comes from the heart, sincere and reverent, is heard by God. If what is asked is useful to a person’s soul, it fulfills it. Jesus Christ said to his disciples, the apostles, and this applies to Christians who believe in Him:

“Whatever you ask in prayer in faith, you will receive” (Matthew 21:22).

archangel Michael

Lucifer's brothers - Michael and Gabriel

Icons of the holy archangels Michael and Gabriel.

The three archangels did not have a mother, and they cannot be called biological brothers. But they are close relatives - created by one thought. Like-minded people. Michael and Gabriel found it more difficult to endure Lucifer's rebellion. Then they had to raise their weapons. I wonder what was going on in the souls when the Archangel Michael came out against Lucifer?

It is possible that when he took up arms, he did not experience anything. He fulfilled his duty before God, before all that exists. Or he was shocked by the betrayal, but suppressed his feelings.

This is an important difference between the two brothers. Lucifer did not know how to suppress the movements of the soul

Pride overcame him. And the leader of the heavenly army, the Archangel, pulled himself together. I understood that my duty to the Divine Plan is higher than any experiences.

Archangel Gabriel (from Hebrew - man of God)

One of the highest angels appears in the Old and New Testaments as the bearer of joyful tidings. He announces to the priest Zechariah in the temple, during the offering of incense, the birth of John the Baptist, and to the Ever-Virgin in Nazareth - about the birth of the Savior of the world.

According to the Bible, he is considered the guardian angel of the chosen people. Kabbalists consider him the teacher of Patriarch Joseph; According to the teachings of the Mohammedans, Mohammed received his revelations from him and was carried to Heaven by him.

On the icons he is depicted with candles and a jasper mirror as a sign that the ways of God are not clear until time, but are comprehended over time by studying the word of God and obedience to the voice of conscience.

The church glorifies him on March 26 and July 13 (old style).

Mentioned in canonical books:

Dan. 8:16 and 9:21;

OK. 1:9 and 26.

Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Saint Archangel Gabriel, as explained in the “Guide to Painting Icons,” “is depicted holding a lantern with a candle lit inside in his right hand, and a stone mirror in his left hand.” (Fartusov, p. 226).

This mirror made of green jasper (jasper) with black and white spots on it, illuminated by the light of truth, reflects the good and bad deeds of nations, proclaims to people the secrets of God's economy and the salvation of mankind.

The name Gabriel, received by the Archangel from God, means in Russian the Fortress of God or the Power of God.

We pray to the archangels - God fulfills

It is important to understand that prayer is not only a request to fulfill what you want. It is also an appeal to God in any situation and state of mind: it is repentance for sins, a request, and gratitude. You need to talk to the Lord in both joyful and sorrowful situations, in moments of fear, doubt and in moments of joy. The main thing is the desire to be in communication with God, to feel His invisible presence.

“ – Geronda, how should you pray?

– Feel yourself as a little child, and God as your Father, and ask Him for everything you need. Conversing with God in this way, you will not want to leave Him later, because only in God does a person find security, consolation, inexpressible love, combined with divine tenderness. Prayer means placing Christ in your heart, loving Him with all your being…. Just as a child cannot be torn away from his mother’s embrace, so it is impossible to tear a person who has understood its meaning away from prayer. How does a child feel in his mother's arms? Only someone who feels the presence of God and feels like a little child can understand this.”

“Prayer is the oxygen of the soul, its urgent need, and it should not be considered a heavy duty. For prayer to be heard by God, it must come from the heart, be done with humility and in a deep sense of our sinfulness. If prayer is not from the heart, there is no benefit in it” (from the book of Paisius the Holy Mountain “Word. Volume 6. On Prayer”).

Often a person turns not directly to God, but to saints, angels and archangels. They become intermediaries between man and God. They help convey prayers to the Lord, since a person himself does not always manage to fully concentrate on prayer. His spiritual state does not allow him to feel a connection with God. In such cases, spiritual helpers are required.

Archangel Jehudiel: prayer addressed to him

Reading prayers is an integral part of the life of a believer. This action should be approached responsibly and with all your heart, because, despite the fact that “He who glorifies the Lord” hears the words addressed to him, the prayer will be much more effective if it is said sincerely and with the hope of fulfillment:

“Holy Archangel Jehudiel, eternal protector of those who have chosen the path of Christ, deliver us from the terrible sin of laziness and give us strength for good deeds. You are the great intercessor of the will and glory of God, help me to create in the name of the Father and the Son, strengthen my heart from black thoughts and thoughts from inconstancy, enlighten me, stupid! In the name of the Holy Trinity, from now on and forever and ever. Amen!"

According to the rules, this prayer should be read on Saturdays, in the morning and evening before bed. But since there is only one, albeit in different variations, this appeal can be pronounced on other days, the main thing is to have pure thoughts and sincere faith.

Ikos 9

The oracles of multi-proclamation and sweet-voiced rhetoricians will not be able to comprehend the imperfect human mind, nor sing in all human tongues all the mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven, where you, the all-praised Archangel Uriel, abide in glory, as one “of the seven” great Angels, who stand before the throne of the Almighty and exalt To Him from all ends of the earth are the prayers of His faithful children. We, remembering this, and if not with angelic, but with human speech, sing to you:

Rejoice, ever illuminating us all with the radiance of your heavenly love for us. Rejoice, you who help us to grow in gratitude and appreciation to our Heavenly Father. Rejoice, you who teach us to forgive those who have caused us troubles and sorrows. Rejoice, dispelling the darkness of our infirmities with the light of merciful heavenly help. Rejoice, you who graciously send peace and tranquility into the hearts of all those in need. Rejoice, you who strengthen us with good thoughts in times of doubt and mental torment. Rejoice, you who heal from the burdens of past experiences and emotional anxieties. Rejoice, who gloriously illuminates all the paths of our life with heavenly light. Rejoice, God-bearing Archangel Uriel, who guides our feet into the valley of eternal joy.

Spiritual practices

In the end, for those who are involved in esotericism, it should be added that spiritual practices relate each archangel to a specific ray of light. These rays are used to balance or eliminate pain in any part of the human body, open the chakras, develop abilities, etc. You just need to call on the archangel and ask for help. Then the question may quite logically arise: which ray does Archangel Jeremiel serve on? Its beam is purple. This is the “third eye” chakra, which is located at the top of the forehead, allowing a person to become the master of his own destiny with the constant support of the archangels.

Warning

With the help of smoke and fire, the heavenly man Jeremiel revealed to the holy prophet that two parts of that time had already passed and the third remained. And here it is worth recalling that Ezra lived at the end of the 5th millennium from the creation of Adam. The date corresponds to the 5th century BC. Ezra asked him whether he would live to see these days, and what would happen then. But the archangel replied that he could partly talk about the signs, but he was not sent to talk about his life. The Archangel Jeremiel told him what would happen before the end of the world, and that those who knew how to understand these issues would have to feel the nearness of the end of the world.

The Archangel of God, Jeremiel, helps to reveal the gloomy prospect of a world mired in sin. But it also helps to see the holy seeds of eternal life in a dying world.

Lucifer and his heavenly brothers

The fallen archangel Lucifer is known for his own fall from grace. God cast him out of heaven after rebelling and trying to gain freedom. But in this whole story, an important point remains behind the veil - the fraternal bonds between the three archangels. Their names are Michael, Gabriel, Lucifer. Let's look at this situation, when in the first war brother went against brother. And let's start with the basics - which of them did what in the Kingdom of God.

Archangel Lucifer - there are different versions about what his work was. But there are two main opinions that are trustworthy. Many source texts indicate that Lucifer is God's personal weapon. He acted as an angel of death, sending punishment on sinners - remember Sodom and Gomorrah. The fallen one acted as an accuser at the heavenly court. And he is the right hand of the Lord.

Archangel Michael is second after Lucifer. He filled the vacant seat when the Morning Star was removed. Leader of the angelic warriors. Lucifer is like an executioner, executor of the will of God, Michael is a general of the heavenly army. Under his leadership, God's armies will go into battle.

Archangel Gabriel is the messenger of God. Reveals the heavenly plan to ordinary mortals. Through this voice the divine will is communicated to humanity. He, like Michael, has the title of Archangel - military leader. Yes, the patron of warrior angels is more often called this, but the herald also has such powers.

Archangel Jehudiel's sphere of responsibility and place in the heavenly hierarchy

Pharaoh Yehudiel is one of the seven archangels of God in the Orthodox tradition. It has not been mentioned in Catholic tradition since approximately the 17th century. Jehudiel is known only by legend, his name is not mentioned in the Bible and the Gospel - no worse than the name of the Archangel Barachiel. It was mentioned in the revelations of the monk Amadeus of Portugal, who lived in the 15th century. In time, Dmitry Rostovsky transferred the records about the Archangel Jehudiel to the Lives of the Saints. All in all, he appeared on the list of saints and archangels revered by the Orthodox.

Translated from Hebrew, the term Yehudiel means “glorifying God,” “praise of God.”

Translated from ancient Hebrew, the name Yehudiel is translated as “glorifying God,” “Glory to God.” At the behest of the Lord, someone patronized the Israelites, who wandered through the desert for forty years. He appeared to the Israelites when they came out of Egypt. For that matter, the archangel appeared in the form of a fiery and cloudy pillar that protected them from persecution. The Lord sent Jehudiel to Moses to help him fulfill his destiny.

In icons, Jehudiel is depicted with a crown in one hand and a whip in the other. The golden aureole symbolizes rewards from the Lord for godly deeds and righteous longevity, which will be granted to saints and ordinary people. The whip is made up of three black ropes. It symbolizes the punishment that will befall those who were lazy to engage in pious works. The whip is also a weapon with which the pharaoh drives away enemies from pious people and companions of the faith.

Accordingly, Jehudiel is the intercessor of all those who labor tirelessly for the glory of God. He and the angels subordinate to him are always ready to give advice and help in a difficult situation to those whom they protect. These are priests and monks, as well as people who hold leadership positions and have a burden at the state or regional levels. Since ancient times, Jehudiel has been called the patron saint of kings and judges.

Without taking this into account, this angel gives his protection to monastics, clergy, and also to ascetics. The latter are associates of the church, people who contribute to the development and strengthening of Orthodoxy in various ways available to them. Beloved is not mentioned too often, since he is the patron of major leaders and ministers of the church

Citizens who have nothing to do with monasticism, the church and government at high levels turn to this archangel once in a while

The Beloved is not mentioned too often, since he is the patron of major leaders and ministers of the church. Citizens who have nothing to do with monasticism, the church and government at high levels only turn to this archangel.

How to prepare

Preparation for the divine service plays an important role: whether the Almighty Powers will hear us and listen to our requests depends on its correct conduct.

There are general recommendations that, if followed, will help you get in the right frame of mind. Here are the main ones:

Confess to your confessor in church, repent of your sins and clear your conscience. Thus, the barrier to establishing a spiritual connection with the archangels will collapse; Be sure to let go of your grievances, resentments and anger. Forgive your enemies and offenders; The place in which you address the higher angels must be clean. It is better that your apartment or house is illuminated by church ministers; When turning to the archangels, the person praying must be in a cheerful mood, supported by undeniable faith; It is necessary for several days before the start of daily worship to abstain from addictions and sinful earthly pleasures; Before you start praying, ask yourself the question: “Are you asking for something displeasing to the Almighty?”

It is very important to communicate with the Higher Powers, having only good intentions; First, carefully read the entire text, feel the meaning of each word - all content must be comprehended. Try to learn it by heart; A few minutes before you start, rinse your face with holy water and make the sign of the cross three times.

These recommendations are not immutable, but by following them, you will be able to pray more diligently and will definitely be heard.

Who is patronized by the Archangel Jehudiel?

Archangel Jehudiel is the muzaget of ascetics and monastics, the glorifier of God, strengthening workers for the glory of God and interceding for rewarding them according to their exploits and labors.

Jehudiel patronizes people who engage in godly deeds and occupy high positions. For centuries they were considered close to the Gods - as in the times of Slavic paganism, and somewhere later, when the prince was considered the chosen one of the Lord. Archangel Jehudiel protects judges and kings.

Tsars in Russia remain unprofitable; accordingly, people who manage large enterprises, occupy leadership positions in city and regional administrations, are involved in politics and participate in government can consider Jehudiel their patron. It also helps judges if they stand up for justice and do not condone corruption.

Just as was stated above, Jehudiel helps monks and priests in their affairs, as well as all people who are engaged in helping the church within their means. If you are a volunteer who is engaged in the restoration of cathedrals, or an icon painter, for example, your brother can contact this archangel to get advice or cooperation in his work. Glorifying the Lord is also considered a godly deed.
