Miraculous icon of St. John the Baptist with a hoop

“...You talk about traditional methods of treatment, but suddenly one of the readers needs help and my experience will be useful to him. Therefore, for your consideration, my true story.

I am a pensioner, I’m almost 70. Several years ago I started having severe attacks of headaches. At first the pain came twice a month. These days I was completely incapacitated. The attacks were so strong and painful that my vision darkened and my legs gave way. I barely made it home, where I lay motionless in the dark until the pain went away. Then the attacks became more frequent. It got to the point that they began to repeat sometimes several times a week. I began to be afraid to leave the house. Every day lived without pain was real happiness for me. Each new morning passed in painful anticipation: will the pain return today?

I started going to doctors, went through all sorts of examinations, but they showed nothing. The doctors shrugged:

— Apparently, it’s old age, migraine, body characteristics. Take your pills, avoid stress, and maybe everything will return to normal.

I took countless medications, but they only temporarily relieved the pain and did not relieve me of these terrible attacks. My life has turned into a nightmare. I became a recluse, only occasionally going out into the street to the nearest store to buy something to eat. All I could do was to humble myself and pray to God.

I have always been a believer, I tried to live according to the commandments of Christ, helped my neighbors as best I could, and went to church. But I never asked for myself, more and more for my family and friends. The moment came when I myself needed help. I learned that there is a monastery in Moscow where the miraculous image of John the Baptist with a hoop is located. This icon has the power to heal headaches. To many, my further story will probably seem like a joke and falsification, but all my words are true. After I visited the St. John the Baptist Convent and said a prayer under the hoop, everything went away. The headaches... disappeared forever. For a whole year now I have been living a normal, full life.

In parting, I want to say: people, believe. Even when doctors and medications do not help, hope remains. God is merciful and he hears our prayers!” Nadezhda Petrovna Kuznetsova, Moscow

…The St. John the Baptist Convent is located in the very heart of old Moscow. The city here is the same as it was before: not a single high-rise building or new building, narrow streets windingly wander among ancient houses, temples rise on the hills, their domes peeking out here and there through the branches of autumn-decorated trees. It's quiet and peaceful here. But, to be honest, I didn’t want to come here. There is so much work to do, but here you have to go out onto the chilly street and go to the monastery. I entered the monastery chapel not in the best mood. The icon of John the Baptist appeared before me in all its austere, majestic beauty. Amazed and silent, I stood aside and began to observe. There is no queue to see the saint, but during the 20 minutes that I spent in the chapel, the place in front of the icon was never empty. People came up one after another, crossed themselves, put a copper hoop on their heads, attached with a chain to the icon, and quietly read prayers. After that, peaceful, they walked away with a barely noticeable smile on their lips. I don’t know whether it was the atmosphere of this place, or the energy emanating from the image of the prophet, that had an effect, but my mood improved and my soul became somehow light and pleasant.

Historical reference

John the Baptist (John the Baptist) was born six months before the birth of the Lord Jesus. John spent his youth in the desert, leading an ascetic lifestyle. When John turned thirty, he began preaching in the Judean desert, calling people to repentance and change their lives. His laconic sermons had enormous power: Jerusalem, and all of Judea, and the entire Jewish environs came out to him and were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins (Matthew III, 5). John preached that the baptism with water that he performed was only a preparation for the acceptance of the Messiah - Jesus Christ, who would come to earth and take upon himself all the sins of the world. John baptized Jesus and called him the true Son of God and the savior of the world.

In his fearless sermons, John did not spare even the rulers of the world: he was not afraid to loudly denounce King Herod for his lawless relationship with Herodias (she was the wife of Herod’s brother). Herod ordered the prophet to be imprisoned in a fortress and wanted to execute him. Only fear of the people, who revered John as a great prophet, could stop the king. But the love of the people could not save John from Herodias, whose hatred was even stronger and more inexorable than that of Herod himself. She never stopped looking for an opportunity to kill the prophet. This desired opportunity soon presented itself. On Herod's birthday, during a feast that he gave to his nobles, Salome, the daughter of Herodias, with her dance brought such pleasure to the king and his guests that he invited her to ask for what she wanted, promising to fulfill any of her wishes. On the advice of her mother, Salome demanded from the king the head of John the Baptist on a platter, and he, so as not to appear unfaithful to his oath, sent a squire to prison, who beheaded John and gave his head to the maiden on a platter.

Mother Dosithea about the hoop of John the Baptist

And now in the monastery many healings occur from the amazing hoop, which are recorded by the nuns of the monastery. Nun Dosithea was appointed keeper of the certificates and senior sister in the chapel. This mother has been working in the monastery since the first days of its opening in 2000. Thick books are kept in a special locker under lock and key - in them Mother Dosithea records the miracles and stories of pilgrims who received healing from the hoop.

Also, when mother is free from other duties, she gives a tour of the monastery. And he talks about the revered icon and hoop. According to mother, the hoop appeared in the monastery much later than the icon. The life-size image of John the Baptist was given to the monastery in the 16th century, and the hoop itself appeared 3 centuries later. That’s when he was chained with a silver chain to the frame of the icon.

History of the hoop in St. John the Baptist Monastery

The history of the painting of the icon of John the Baptist and the hoop chained to it is covered in the secrets of troubled times. What is known is that the image of the saint was painted during the reign of Ivan the Terrible. It is unknown who and when attached the hoop to it with the prayer “Holy Baptist of the Lord, pray to God for us.”

Under Empress Elizabeth, the authorities even wanted to remove the shrine away from Red Square - such a large flow of patients frightened the highest circles. But the diocesan consistory testified to many cases of healing, so the icon with the hoop was left in its rightful place.

Elderly nuns of the Predtechensky Monastery talk about ancient chronicles that say that this hoop is an exact measure from the severed head of the Baptist Jesus Christ. Even before the closure, the monastery chose September 11 (August 29, Old Style) as its patronal feast day - the day of the beheading of the venerable head of John the Baptist, prophet and Baptist of the Lord.

During the years of Bolshevik persecution of the church, the image of the Forerunner was transferred to the Church of the Glorious and All-Praised Apostles Peter and Paul. This church at the Yauz Gate was one of the few monasteries that did not close under the Soviet regime.

In 2002, the monastery met the shrine on its land - the monastery returned the image with the saint’s hoop. Immediately upon the return of the hoop, a separate chapel for worship was erected for it on the monastery territory. When the hoop was in the main cathedral, it was impossible to hold services in it - so many people were crowded into the temple that the priests could not burn incense in the vestibule. The venerable icon was left in its rightful place - the solemn lectern of the cathedral.

Prayer for headaches to John the Baptist

08.10.2018

Nowadays, there is not a single person who does not have a headache at least once. A headache almost always returns with renewed vigor, signaling fatigue, overwork, stress and a number of other illnesses.

Even completely healthy people often suffer from headaches. The reasons are different, but there is a universal solution - prayer, which will help you find the gracious and quick help of the great preacher John the Baptist.

How to read prayers for headaches correctly

Orthodox people make requests to various saints. People most often turn to John the Baptist for headaches.

Prayers to this prophet are considered very effective and have strong healing properties. The Baptist of the Lord, while still alive, healed people from illnesses, in particular from headaches.

Therefore, it is from St. John that Christians beg for quick relief from unbearable migraines.

Prayers for headaches, like all others, should be read sincerely and with all your heart. The most important thing is to believe that prayer will help you get rid of your illness.

If you have the opportunity to visit the temple where the icon of John the Baptist is located, or if you keep the shrine in your home, then it is better to pray in front of the image. If this is not possible, it’s okay.

The main thing is that the prayer is said correctly and with all your heart.

Do not forget that in prayers you should ask not only for yourself, but also for your loved ones. In most cases, headaches are inherited, so start your prayer by asking for the health of your family: parents, children, sisters and brothers.

Before you start praying, you still need to consult a doctor. Sometimes headaches can be a symptom of more serious illnesses. But most often, pain in the head is not dangerous and is caused by external irritants, so the sooner you get rid of it, the better.

Prayers for headaches to John the Baptist

First prayer

widely known among believers and, for the most part, it is with the help of it that Orthodox people turn to the saint:

“I bow before you, O Saint John! I pray to the Heavenly King, our Lord! I ask you to forgive my mortal sins, for at the hour of my judgment I will give my soul to Heaven. I pray, don’t let me lose heart. I only turn to you with prayers.

Hear me and come to my aid, for you stand in Heaven next to the Lord. I turn to you with a request, do not leave me unattended, let my prayers be heard. Become my intercessor, save me from illness. Cleanse my soul, my mind, my body, for I repent for my sins and ask for forgiveness before the Lord.

I praise your name, O Holy Healer John, forever and ever. Amen".

Second prayer

no less effective, but not as well known. John the Baptist will hear your requests and help according to the strength of your faith. The sacred text should be read three times:

“I bow in prayer before you, O John the Baptist! I pray, save my soul.

I ask for help, O Holy Prophet! I pray to all the saints in heaven, the Mother of God, the Lord and His Son Jesus Christ! Oh, Saint John, please heal me and relieve me of pain.

I praise your name, for you are close to the Lord God, and he has given you life into His Kingdom. I beg you, hear my requests and deliver me from the pain in my head and from all the ailments from which my body and my soul suffer. Forever and ever! Amen!".

Third prayer

to John the Baptist is very effective and helps even with severe and unbearable headaches. It sounds like this:

“Oh, John, Great Baptist of the Son of God Jesus Christ! I read a prayer to you and ask you to forgive the sins of my sinful soul! For I will bear my cross and accept all the burdens on the way to the Gate to the Kingdom of Heaven.

Do not leave me unattended, hear my prayers and give me your protection and healing from headaches and other ailments that have settled in me! Forgive my earthly sins, ask the Lord God for me and revive my soul, cleanse it of bad deeds, for I repent! In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen".

Do not forget that prayers will be effective only if your thoughts are pure. You need to say them sincerely, and most importantly, you must not lose faith in your healing.

Prayers to John the Baptist: the most powerful

Prayer to John the Baptist will help you ask for help in everyday matters, about health, and get rid of doubts.

The saint helps to heal, especially with head diseases, is a protector of children, saves from sins, such as drunkenness, and guides them on the true path. You can ask for a martyr both for yourself and for your loved ones. The Baptist has his own icon.

It depicts John in simple clothes, stretching out his palms to the flock, offering to believe in the Lord, gain strength and hope for salvation from sins.

Life of John the Baptist

The life of Saint John the Baptist or John the Baptist is described in the Gospel. He was born into the family of priest Zechariah and Elizabeth in the city of Hebron. The elderly couple did not have a child. One day, the Archangel Gabriel informed Zechariah about the imminent birth of his son and ordered him to name him John.

The archangel also predicted that John would preach the faith and notify people about the coming of Jesus Christ. Zechariah did not believe the words of the archangel and immediately became speechless until the birth of his son. John was born six months before Jesus. After the birth of Jesus Christ, the Magi announced to the people the good news about the appearance of a new king.

King Herod gave the order to exterminate all the babies in order to kill Jesus. They came to Zechariah and demanded the baby, but the father did not give up his son and wife, for which he was killed within the walls of the temple where he conducted the service. Elizabeth and her son fled to the desert and lived in a cave for a long time. There she died.

The youth John went into the Judean desert, led an ascetic life, and spent his days in prayer. At age 30, he returned to the city, where he preached and baptized residents in the Jordan.

Simple, very powerful sermons convinced people to believe in God. John prepared the people for the appearance of Jesus Christ, which is why he is called John the Baptist. When they met, John announced to the people the coming of the Son of God and baptized Jesus with his own hand.

The painting “The Appearance of Christ to the People” is precisely about this event. For this, King Herod threw the Forerunner into prison. Herodias, Herod's concubine and his brother's wife, ordered her daughter Solomia to dance in front of the guests at the feast, as a reward to ask the king for John's head.

In prison they cut off John's head and brought it to the palace on a platter. The head of the saint was buried on the Mount of Olives. The body was buried by the disciples in Sebastia. The right hand (cut off fingers) as holy relics are kept in the monastery.

For his feat, John was canonized; he is the founder of the New Testament and the sacrament of baptism, the baptizer of Jesus.

Prayer to John the Baptist helps people find hope for a better future and a sinless life.

Life shocks and worries about loved ones often overwhelm a person. How to find peace in your soul? How to come to terms with losses? Prayer to John the Baptist helps to calm the soul.

Baptist of Christ, preacher of repentance, do not despise me who repents, but copulating with the heavenly ones, pray to the Lady for me, unworthy, sad, weak and sad, fallen into many troubles, burdened by the stormy thoughts of my mind. Because I am a den of evil deeds, with no end to sinful customs, my mind is nailed down by earthly things.

What will I do? We don't know. And to whom shall I resort, that my soul may be saved? Only to you, Saint John, give the same name of grace, for you are before the Lord through the Mother of God greater than all those born, for you have been honored to touch the top of the King Christ, who takes away the sins of the world, the Lamb of God.

Pray for my sinful soul, so that from now on, in the first ten hours, I will bear a good burden and accept recompense with the last. To her, the Baptist of Christ, an honest Forerunner, an extreme Prophet, the first martyr in grace, a teacher of fasters and hermits, a teacher of purity and a close friend of Christ!

I pray to you, I come running to you: do not reject me from your intercession, but raise me up, cast down by many sins. Renew my soul with repentance, as with the second baptism, since you are the ruler of both: with baptism wash away the original sin, and with repentance cleanse every bad deed. Cleanse me, defiled by sins, and force me to enter, even if nothing bad enters, into the Kingdom of Heaven. Amen.

RARE AND REVERED ICONS

First, a letter to the weekly magazine “Arguments and Facts”. “Hello, AiF editors, I’m not sure if I’m contacting the right address and whether you will publish my letter, but I couldn’t help but write.

I came close to the icon, thoughts were spinning in my head: “What kind of hoop is this?” Why is there a rope hanging on the icon, studded with precious chains, crosses, bracelets and other decorations? And most importantly, does the icon really heal? All these questions were answered by the dean of the St. John the Baptist Monastery, Mother Zoya.

— The healing described in your letter is not the only case, but one of many. In addition, those who pray in front of the icon are healed not only from headaches, but also from other diseases,” the dean told me. The St. John the Baptist Monastery records evidence of such healings. Here are just a few of them: “In June 2002, an unbelieving woman came to venerate the icon. She had to undergo surgery to remove a brain tumor with craniotomy. The woman was brought to the monastery by her last hope. A preoperative examination, which took place some time later, showed that the tumor had disappeared. The only thing that remained for the shocked doctors was to ask about what the woman did to cure herself. In the same 2002, another woman was cured of chronic sinusitis. Doctors prescribed her an operation to perforate the bone, on the eve of which the patient went to ask for help from John the Baptist. The next day the operation was canceled as there were no indications for hospitalization. Last year, after praying to John the Baptist, a tumor on one believer’s arm resolved.” Mother Zoya recalls: “Once I went into the chapel and saw a woman there animatedly gesticulating. She told others what a miracle happened to her after prayer. She had a thyroid disease. Having sincerely prayed in front of the icon of John the Baptist, on the way back home on the subway she felt a strong warmth in the sore spot. After this, the woman came to the chapel to pray several more times - as a result, the disease disappeared without a trace. Another time, after praying to the prophet, a pilgrim from the Baltic states was cured of a spinal disease.

“It is well known in the Orthodox tradition that believers receive help if they turn to the one depicted on the icon with a sincere prayer of repentance,” says mother Zoya. — The icon of John the Baptist with a hoop is a true shrine, a priceless treasure. This ancient miraculous icon is a window to heaven. The shrine is almost five centuries old; can you imagine how many believers have prayed to it during all this time? John the Baptist gives real help to everyone who turns to him. The jewelry hanging on the icon was brought by believers in gratitude for healing and support. The hoop attached to the icon appeared in the monastery at the end of the 19th century. It is put on the head by the one who prays in front of the icon of the holy prophet.
