Prayer to the Mother of God “Open the doors of mercy for us”: text and rules for reading it

Each of us, walking along the path of life, finds himself in completely different situations. Some of them can confuse you and force you to commit a bad act. In such cases, pleas and prayers for forgiveness and mercy can help. One example of such a prayer in Russian is the prayer to the Mother of God “Open the doors of mercy to us.”

Prayers to the Mother of God

Often a person cannot find a way out of a situation; it seems to him a dead end. Realizing that nothing can be done or changed, people, seeing the slightest opening, naturally rush to it. However, having found that very exit, not everyone thinks - what if this is an even bigger dead end than the previous one?

Thus, when reaching a dead end, a person can often commit a terrible sin out of despair. An example of such a situation and such a sin of hopelessness can be called abortion. The murder, in particular, of an unborn child, has always, at all times, been considered the most terrible sin. Abortion, especially if not for medical reasons, is a huge sin.

It is customary to read this prayer just in such cases. This does not mean that it is worth doing it, and the sin will no longer exist. This is far from true. By reading this prayer, the woman thereby asks the Mother of God for intercession before the Lord. The souls of murdered babies always wait for the hour of death of their mothers in order to appear with them before God's judgment. Further, everything depends on the degree of repentance of the woman and her future life. If she has completely repented, then heaven awaits her; otherwise, the gates of hell will open before her. Sins such as murder cannot be atoned for during life.

November 3, 2018Reply Why are you lying about not forgiving the sin of abortion? The Gospel clearly states that any sin will be forgiven, except blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. If a woman sincerely repents, then her abortion will be forgiven just like all other sins. Yes, you will have to pay penance for this sin, whatever the priest will appoint. Do not mislead people. There are even murderers among the saints, but the Lord forgave them everything and, moreover, made them His chosen ones.

How to read

For a prayer to achieve its goal, you need to not only read it, it is important to do it correctly. When addressing the Mother of God, you need to follow some rules:

  1. The prayer after an abortion should be read not only by the mother of the murdered baby, but also by the father. He is also the culprit of what happened, the responsibility lies equally with him. Specifically, his sin is that he forced a woman to do this or allowed infanticide.
  2. Before reading this prayer, it is best to visit the temple to repent of sins and confess.
  3. You need to pray not only to the Mother of God, but also to our Lord God, John the Baptist and your saint.
  4. Since murder is the most terrible sin, this prayer should become a constant companion for the rest of a woman’s life. Only in this way can there be a faint hope of forgiveness.
  5. Any relative of a woman can read the prayer if she herself asks him to do so.
  6. If a woman had any problems with her pregnancy (ectopic or frozen), which led to its termination, even if not by her will, she can also read this prayer. This will make it possible to ask the Mother of God for a new, full-fledged pregnancy, which will end on time with the birth of a healthy child.
  7. You can ask in your own words, being at home, you don’t even have to know the text of the prayer by heart. What is more important here is the mood with which it is read. If every word comes from the heart, there is a greater chance that the prayer will be heard.

Interpretation

Many people who try to read prayers in the version in which they are written complain that sometimes it is difficult for them to understand the essence of what is written. Of course, it is better when read in the original writing. “Open the doors of mercy to us” says the following:

  • the first lines indicate that the appeal goes directly to the Mother of God - the only mother of our Lord. Based on the text, it is clear that the person asking places his hopes on her, asks for deliverance from troubles;
  • further, the hope is expressed that at the hour when it is necessary to appear before God at the Last Judgment, the Mother of God will act as an intercessor, making it possible to avoid a terrible fate;
  • The prayer ends with a request for salvation.

Despite the fact that this prayer is very powerful, it will not remove the guilt for what has been done. Abortion will also remain a sin, because even with complete piety in the future, if you lead the most pious life, the child cannot be resurrected.

Many women do not consider abortion, especially in the early stages, to be a sin. They say that this is not a child yet, but just a fetus, he does not feel anything. However, regardless of the term, this is a full-fledged murder, for which you will have to pay for your entire life and, possibly, after it.

Many people think that having done something like this, it is enough to repent, read a prayer several times and continue to live peacefully as before. This is a delusion, and prayer will help only when the woman really realized the horror of what she had done, repented and will never do anything like that again. In addition, every mother is obliged to pray for the repose of her unborn children.

In the life of every person, sometimes there are a lot of different situations, a way out of which is sometimes not only very difficult, but simply impossible. Sometimes, having found a way out, we reach a dead end, which provokes us to commit quite serious sins. Abortion is considered one of the most terrible sins.

Of course, there are a huge number of different medical indicators for its implementation, but if they are not there and a woman decides to take such a step, then she should know that this is a very big sin. And no matter what your life situation is, you need to remember that if God sent a child, then He will send everything necessary for the child.

Prayer of mercy after abortion

After an abortion, it is customary to read the prayer “Open the doors of mercy to us, blessed Mother of God.” But you shouldn’t think that it will cleanse you from sin. No. It simply serves as a petition to the Mother of God, so that she will intercede before the Lord God for a sinner. After all, the dead souls of babies are waiting for the death of their mothers, so that they can then be brought before the judgment of God.

Depending on how the woman lived after what she had done, if she repented, she would go to the Kingdom of Heaven, and if she continued to sin, then she would go to hell. Remember that other sins can be expiated, but sins such as abortion or murder cannot be expiated.

The text of the prayer is as follows:

Open the doors of mercy to us, Blessed Mother of God, who hope in You, so that we may not perish, but may we be delivered from troubles by You, for You are the salvation of the Christian race.

Rejoice, One Most Pure Mother of the One Creator, Lord, God and Savior of ours, Jesus Christ! Be my Intercessor on the day of the terrible trial, when I appear before the Throne of the Unfeigned Judge, so that I may be delivered from the fiery punishment of torment through Your prayers, O Blessed One. Most Holy Theotokos, save us!

You can also pray to the Lord with these words:

Lord Almighty, who knows how to forgive sins and iniquities to sinners who repent with all their souls!

Accept my tearful repentance for all my former lawlessness and murder in the abortions of my children. I, a sinful slave (name), through my evil will was the cause of their death, those who were not born, who did not see the light of this world through me, mother, a sinful slave (name).

Thy judgment is terrible, O Lord and Master of my life, but Thy mercy is also immeasurable for the truly repentant criminals of Thy Holy Law. Unworthy and sinful murderer of her children, I pray and hope for Your mercy, I dare to ask and pray to You for the hope of salvation by Your grace.

And by Thy mercy, baptize my children, who died before birth, into the sea of Thy bounties, Save them with Thy Divine grace. Glory to you, the Long-Suffering Father and Your Most Merciful Son and the Holy Comforter Spirit. Now, forever and forever. Amen".

May the Lord protect you!

Prayer, fasting and almsgiving

In today's Reading Service (Tuesday of the third week of Lent) there is a wonderful sermon by St. Peter Chrysologos about prayer, fasting and almsgiving.

I quote it in my hasty translation from French, source: La Liturgie des Heures , v. II, p. 168, Paris 1980.

SERMON ABOUT PRAYER, FASTING AND ALMS

Prayer knocks on doors, fasting achieves,

There are three things, brothers, on which faith stands, piety is strengthened and virtue is maintained. This is prayer, fasting and charity. Prayer knocks on doors, fasting is obtained, mercy is received. Prayer, mercy and fasting, all three are one and mutually animate each other.

For fasting is the soul of prayer, and charity is the life of fasting. Let no one separate them, for they are inseparable. Whoever practices only one or two of them has nothing.

Therefore, the one who prays must fast, and the one who fasts must perform works of mercy and listen to the supplicant who wants to be heard.

He will be heard by God who does not close his ears to the voice of the one who prays.

He who fasts must understand fasting: he must sympathize with the hungry if he wants God to sympathize with his own hunger; he must show mercy if he hopes to obtain mercy; whoever wants to benefit from kindness must provide it himself; He who wants to be given must give. It would be shameless to ask for yourself what you deny others.

May mercy be your norm! If you want to be shown mercy in such and such a way, to such and such a measure, with such readiness, show mercy to others with the same readiness, to the same measure, in the same way.

So, let prayer, mercy and fasting be our intercession before God, let them be our only intercessor, our only prayer in threefold form.

What we have lost through negligence must be gained by fasting; let us mortify our lives through fasting, for there is nothing more important that we could sacrifice to God, as the Prophet affirms, saying: “A sacrifice to God is a contrite spirit; You will not despise a broken and humble heart, O God” (Ps 50:19).

Offer your life as a sacrifice to God, offer Him the sacrifice of fasting, so that it will be a pure sacrifice, a holy sacrifice, a living sacrifice, which will remain with you and will be offered to God. Anyone who would not give such a sacrifice would have no excuse, since everyone always has himself available for sacrifice.

But for prayer and fasting to be accepted, they must be followed by mercy.

Fasting bears no fruit if it is not watered with mercy; the drought of mercy entails the drying up of fasting; What rain is to the earth, mercy is to fasting.

He who fasts can perfectly educate his heart, cleanse his flesh, eradicate vices, instill virtues: but if he does not water everything with the waters of mercy, he will not reap any fruit.

You who fast, remember that your field also fasts if it is devoid of mercy; but if you are generous in acts of mercy, what you squander, you will collect in your bins. Do not scatter with your stinginess, but gather with your generosity. When you give to the poor, give to yourself; for what you do not leave to someone else, you yourself will not receive.

When they pray to the Mother of God

When people turn to the Mother of God in prayer, they hope for her help and intercession before God. The implication is that She will convey people's words to Him, acting as an intermediary. After all, the Mother of God is the earthly mother of Christ, born after the virgin birth. A person turns to her if some kind of trouble hangs over him, if someone is sick and there is no way out of the current situation.

If a person does not need to ask for something, nothing threatens him, he can read prayers to the Mother of God in order to avoid various temptations that lie in wait at every stage of life or difficult turns of fate.

Very often people turn to the Heavenly Mother in cases of illness of oneself, children or loved ones. A confused and frightened person, reading prayers to the Mother of God, receives long-awaited peace and hope for the best. The most important thing is sincerity.

Of course, it’s good when the prayer is read in Church Slavonic, but not everyone can do it. It is much more convenient to read in Russian; it is not even forbidden to read from a piece of paper. You can even then put it in your wallet and wear it as a kind of amulet. No one should know about this, otherwise the Mother of God may turn away.

Mothers often pray to the Mother of God for their children - these are prayers that have undoubted power. They are very important for the children themselves, although they may not be aware of it. Even the Lord himself immediately accepts the prayers of a sincere mother’s heart. The Mother of God is the mother herself, the most loving, kind and caring, caring about everyone equally. Its main purpose is tireless prayer and intercession before the Lord for all those who ask. Of course, no mother has the right to ask for any benefits for her child that would cause harm to other people.

Women who cannot get pregnant also often turn to the Virgin Mary. Having tried every conceivable medical method, they come to God and ask for the birth of a child, as if it were a great miracle. A sincere prayer for the birth of a child is often enough for a miracle to happen. A huge number of women with terrible, fatal diagnoses subsequently successfully became mothers. The Tolga Mother of God especially helps with this.

If children are sick, mothers in their grief ask for help from the Intercessor Mother of God. This is correct, because She, being a mother herself, can understand, comfort and help like no one else. There are many prayers for the health of children, they are very strong. A woman can pray in her own words in her home.

Nativity of the Virgin Mary

On September 21, the entire Christian world celebrates the Mother of God; this holiday is called the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Her parents, Anna and Joachim, could not have children for a very long time and were almost desperate, but for a long time they tirelessly prayed for this as a miracle. As a result, a daughter was sent to them - the Virgin Mary. On this holiday, all the prayers read by women who passionately desire and cannot have children are especially strong and effective, and in the very near future.

Mention of this holiday can be found in sources dating back to the 5th century, and from the 7th-8th centuries the holiday was celebrated everywhere and very solemnly in the Greek Church. In the 7th-9th centuries, churches were built in honor of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in many ancient cities of Rus'.

Solemn services on this day take place in all churches, monasteries and temples. This day in Orthodoxy is also called Little Most Pure Day or Asposov Day. How widely the holiday would be celebrated depended, first of all, on the harvest. If it was good, then the holiday festivities could last a whole week.

They prepared a festive feast, slaughtered sheep, prepared beef dishes, jelly from the legs and heads of bulls, and baked pies. It was mandatory to invite sons-in-law to the holiday - father-in-law and mother-in-law had no right to ignore them. This holiday was celebrated even more widely where there were churches of the Nativity of the Virgin.

Not only are many prayers addressed to the Mother of God, many icons are written from her, which adorn not only churches, but also the homes of ordinary Christian believers.
