WHAT DOES THE “MERCIFUL” ICON HELP FOR, WHAT DOES IT PRAY FOR – “IT IS WORTHY TO EAT”

The Most Holy Theotokos, through prayers to her in front of the “It is Worthy” icon, responds to any requests for needs and troubles.
Its historical role suggests that the image has a special grace in the Prayer before the icon of the Mother of God “It is worthy to eat” - “The Merciful” can be read online in Russian:

“Oh, our Most Holy and Merciful Lady Theotokos! Praying before Your holy icon, we humbly ask You to hear the voice of our prayer, because You see our sorrows and troubles, but as a loving Mother, be quick to help us, helpless, pray to Your Son and our God: may He not destroy us because of our iniquities, but He will show us His mercy generously. Ask us, Lady, from Him for bodily health and spiritual salvation, and a peaceful life, the productivity of the land, good weather, a blessing from above for all our good deeds and undertakings. Just as in ancient times You mercifully listened to the humble praise of the novice of Athonite, who prayed to You before Your Most Pure Icon, and sent Archangel Gabriel to him to teach him and all people to sing the heavenly song with which the Angels glorify You, so today accept our fervent prayer offered to You . O Queen, glorified by all, stretch out your hands to the Lord, with which you carried Him in infancy, and ask Him to deliver us from evil. Show, Lady, Your mercy to us: heal the sick, comfort the grieving, help and guide those in trouble, so that we can pass through our earthly life virtuously, have a Christian and good end, and inherit the Heavenly Kingdom thanks to Your Mother’s intercession to the Christ who was born of You. To our God, to Whom, with His Beginning and Infinity Father and the Holy Spirit, may we forever give glory and honor. Amen".

Through the prayers of the Most Holy Theotokos, may the Lord protect you!

Prayers to the Most Holy Theotokos in front of Her icon called “Mammal”

First prayer before the icon of the Mother of God of the Mammal

Accept, Lady Theotokos, the tearful prayers of Your servants who flow to You. We see You on the holy icon, carrying in your arms and feeding with milk Your Son and our God, the Lord Jesus Christ. Even if you gave birth to Him painlessly, even though the mother weighed the sorrow and infirmity of the sons and daughters of human beings. Falling with the same warmth towards Thy whole-bearing image and lovingly kissing this, we pray to Thee, all-merciful Lady: we, sinners, condemned to give birth to sickness and nourish our children in sorrow, mercifully spare and compassionately intercede, but our babies, who also gave birth to them, from the grave deliver from illness and bitter sorrow. Grant them health and prosperity, and their nourishment will increase in strength, and those who feed them will be filled with joy and consolation, for even now, through Your intercession from the mouth of a baby and those who piss, the Lord will bring His praise. O Mother of the Son of God! Have mercy on the Mother of the sons of men and on Your weak people: quickly heal the illnesses that befall us, quench the sorrows and sorrows that are upon us, and do not despise the tears and sighings of Your servants. Hear us on the day of sorrow who fall before Your icon, and on the day of joy and deliverance receive the grateful praise of our hearts. Offer our prayers to the throne of Your Son and our God, may He be merciful to our sin and weakness and add His mercy to those who lead His name, as we and our children will glorify You, the merciful Intercessor and the true hope of our race, forever and ever. . Amen.

Second prayer before the icon of the Mother of God of the Mammal

O Most Holy Lady our Lady Theotokos, our Heavenly Queen, who nourished us with the milk of Christ our God, and feed us unworthy and many sinners with your rich mercy. Save and deliver us, Thy sinful servants, from vain slander, from all misfortune and misfortune and sudden death. Have mercy on us in the hours of the day, in the morning and in the evening, and at all times, protect us: protect us who stand, those who sit, and protect and protect those who walk on all paths, and protect and protect those who sleep in the night hours. Protect us, Lady Theotokos, from all our enemies, visible and invisible, and from every evil situation. In every place and at every time, be for us, Mother of Grace, an insurmountable wall and strong intercession, always, now and ever, and forever and ever. Amen.

Troparion to the Most Holy Theotokos in front of Her icon called “Mammal”

Troparion, tone 3

Without seed from the Divine Spirit, by the will of the Father, you conceived the Son of God. From the Father, without a mother, before life existed, but for our sake, from You, without a father, you were flesh, you knew the Child and you nourished him with milk. Moreover, do not stop praying for our souls to be delivered from sorrows.

Greatness

We magnify You, Most Holy Virgin, Mammal of our Savior, and honor Your holy image, from whom You have ever given us the grace of healing.

When does it help? Situations

How does the Mammal icon help? Reviews write that, according to legend, she helps pregnant women carrying a child, nursing mothers about preserving the health of a born child and the nutritional value of breast milk, girls dreaming of the happiness of motherhood, men about acquiring a family and an heir. The joy of a woman from breastfeeding her own child, and not from artificial formula, is touching.

Also, how does the icon of the Mother of God “Mammal” help? It helps with the child’s illnesses, with painful weaning of the baby, when the amount of milk has decreased or health problems have appeared in wives who have been relieved of their burden. Requests and prayers before the holy face of the Virgin Mary are consolation and hope for those who suffer.

How does the “Mammal” icon (its photo is presented in the article) help when making prayers? Let's look at possible situations:

  1. Obtaining protection for mother and child during the breastfeeding period.
  2. Help in healing a sick baby.
  3. A request for a pain-free birth.
  4. Healing for women's diseases.
  5. Diseases of the mammary glands in a nursing mother.
  6. Getting rid of family troubles.
  7. Cure for infertility in a man or woman.
  8. Forgiveness for forced termination of pregnancy associated with preserving the life of the mother.

The fear of losing a child is the strongest feeling of a mother who carried the baby and put it to her breast, feeding with milk and the spiritual strength given by God to raise the baby. Many problems that plague the path of life constantly threaten the health and happiness of the child, forcing him to seek and ask for help from the power that helped bring the great mystery of birth into reality.

The West at one time revered milk as spiritual nourishment, depicting similar scenes with the wet nurse in jewelry, wall mosaics, and stained glass windows. His cult was also present in Bethlehem, where travelers are shown the cave in which the Savior was born and was nursed by the Mother of God. The value of the milk that a woman gives to her child after birth is a divine sacrament.

What do they ask for in front of the Mammal icon?

Women turn to the Mother of God for help with breastfeeding. Orthodox Christians ask her for the healing of gynecological ailments and breast diseases. The Virgin Mary protects mother and child from misfortunes and helps in the treatment of childhood diseases.

Young women in labor ask Mammal for a successful and easy birth. The Holy Virgin Mary protects family relationships and helps to find mutual understanding with loved ones.

Orthodox women who are mothers or will become mothers in the future should have an image of the Mother of God in their home. She is an advocate for women giving birth and breastfeeding. An icon in the house will save you from problems and troubles, and will give you the true joy of motherhood.

It is necessary not to forget about the important rules of prayer.

  1. Before asking, the person praying goes through the sacrament, freeing the soul - the prayer will become stronger.
  2. A request to increase milk from a nursing mother comes with good intentions.
  3. Before reading in church, you need to buy several candles and place them near the icon of the Holy Virgin Mary.
  4. If prayer takes place at home, the image of the Mother of God will have to be purchased.
  5. The nursing mother herself or her loved one can ask for the gift of milk.
  6. You need to concentrate on your desire, on what the person asking wants to receive.

Artistic masterpiece

Leonardo Da Vinci created an artistic masterpiece - the Madonna feeding the Savior. Understanding the entire sacred meaning of symbolism, he pointed out the greatness of a woman - a mother. In the 16th century, the Catholic Council banned the depiction of naked bodies, including copies of famous icons. Many ministers of the Orthodox Church have tried to explain the symbolism hidden in the created image, the secret meaning of a nursing mother, but the explanations remain incomplete.

Just as the Mother of God takes care of our Great Lord, giving him food and the opportunity to live from this, so the Creator gives every creation of his to be born. Such a symbol of the relationship between people and the Heavenly Father strengthens faith and provides food for strengthening the spirit in thinking about the meaning of life as intended by the Almighty.

On the territory of the Slavic lands, this is a rare copy of a piece of iconography, and many sufferers know firsthand how the “Mammal” icon helps. The Mother of God is the patroness and helper in earthly affairs. The acquisition by the Orthodox Church of the face of the Mother of God through the pilgrim Sava the Serbian, who visited the holy lands of Byzantium, bequeathed to him by Sava the Sanctified for six centuries. The list came to Rus' in the mid-19th century.

Information about the icon of the Mother of God MAMMAL

The Icon of the Mother of God “Mammal” is located on Mount Athos, in the church of the Kareis cell of the Hilandar monastery.

Mammal (Athos. Cell from the Hilandar Monastery)

According to legend, this image originally resided in the Lavra of Saint Sava the Consecrated near Jerusalem. Before his death, the venerable Savva bequeathed to the brethren to hand over the icon to a pilgrim of the royal family from Serbia named Savva. This was fulfilled only six centuries later, when the monastery was visited by the first Archbishop of Serbia, Saint Sava, who abandoned their father’s throne for the sake of monasticism. When he prayed at the tomb of Saint Sava, the abbot's staff standing nearby fell to the floor, and the image of the Mother of God bent several times. Considering this as a prophetic sign, the monks handed him the image of the “Mammal” along with another icon, the “Three-Handed Woman”.

On the way from Palestine to Serbia, Saint Sava visited Mount Athos, where he founded the Hilandar monastery and left the Mammal icon as a blessing.

The miraculous discovery of the Russian (Krestogorsk) “Mammal” took place in 1650 - it was discovered on a tall tree 20 versts from the city of Minsk. In 1848, the most famous list came to Russia - miraculous images from the Athos St. Elias Skete. And in 1893, the Venerable Gabriel of Athonite, archimandrite of the St. Elias Skete, gave the miraculous image of the Mother of God “Mammal” to Christians in the south of Russia. In Odessa, at the Ilyinsky Metochion, a temple was built in the name of this icon. In Moscow, its copy in the Church of the Resurrection of the Word is revered as miraculous.

The celebration of the icon of the Mother of God “Mammal” in the Orthodox Church takes place on January 12 (according to the Julian calendar), and on January 25 according to the Gregorian calendar.

Four-part icon of the Mother of God

In the Orthodox world there are many icons, each of which has a specific meaning and purpose. Many icons are associated with gospel history or holidays.

We recommend studying Psalm 2

A four-part icon is not one icon, but four at once, and several scenes can be depicted on the canvas at once. There are many types of four-part icons, but the most common is the icon that you should definitely have in your home - “Motherhood”. It began to be written around the 6th century in Byzantium.

History and description of the icon

In Rus', this icon appeared only in the second half of the 17th century. The discovery took place in the Minsk region. According to legend, the icon was found on a tree, and subsequently a temple dedicated to the feast of the Dormition of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built on that very spot.

This icon is quite rare even by the standards of ordinary icons, not four-part ones. If in Christianity and Orthodoxy in particular there is a conversation about such images, then it is the “Motherhood” icon that comes to mind. It consists of the following icons.

"Baby Leaping" Located at the bottom left in the four-part icon. It shows the Baby Jesus playing with his Mother. He is trying to reach the face of the Virgin Mary.

"Upbringing". This icon depicts Jesus sitting on the left hand of his Mother. Located at the bottom right.

"Mammal". At the top left is this icon of the baby Jesus feeding on his Mother's milk.

"Assisting childbirth." This icon helps women in difficult childbirth. While the child is in the womb, she protects any mother from harm. On the four-part icon it is located at the top right.

These four icons are combined into one to save any mother and her child from harm. Such an icon is usually given as a gift for a wedding or when they find out that a woman has become pregnant. However, it is also presented as a gift to mothers who already have adult children.

There is also a crucifix on the icon. These are mandatory components of such a combined image. The writing style may vary, but everything else is always the same.

What does an icon help with?

As mentioned above, any mother should have at home such a four-part icon as “Motherhood”. It helps with literally everything related to family and children. Prayers for health in front of such an icon help children avoid serious illnesses. The “Living Help” prayer will help you bear a child without complications.

The icon's help is comprehensive. This is a reliable protection for your happiness. It is best to give such an icon for the Dormition of the Virgin Mary or for the Nativity of the Virgin Mary.

Date of celebration of the icon

The date of celebration of the icon is January 25. You can give such an icon on this date. This day should be some kind of analogue of Mother's Day for everyone who knows about it. Pray to God for the health of your parents and children on January 25 of every year. Try not to forget this day.

Prayer to the Mother of God before the icon

“Mother Intercessor, appear to us sinners to save our children and our mothers from all evil, for only they can continue our family. Forgive us our sins, voluntary and involuntary, forever and ever. Cover me with your veil, give my children your grace. Give us all the opportunity to touch You, Lady, for each of us is a child before You. Amen".

Read this prayer not only on the day of veneration of the icon, January 25, but every day, remembering the happiness our children give us. May this icon always protect you.

This is the greatest composite image of the Mother of God, which should be in your home along with the Kazan Mother of God. Don’t be too lazy to give the icon to your loved ones or buy it for yourself. Good luck and don't forget to press the buttons and

This is interesting: Icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary “Life-Giving Source”

Description of the icon of Our Lady of the Mammal

The icon of the Mother of God Mammal depicts the Blessed Virgin breastfeeding the Infant God. According to oral tradition, this image of rare iconography was originally located in the Lavra of Saint Sava, located 18 miles from Jerusalem. The holy founder of the only monastery in the East, at the time of his death, predicted to the brethren that in time the royal pilgrim from Serbia of the same name would visit his monastery, and that the miraculous icon of the Mother of God “Mammal” would be given to him from the monastery as a blessing.

The prediction of Saint Sava, who died peacefully in the 6th century, was fulfilled more than six centuries later. In the 13th century, Saint Sava, the Archbishop of Serbia, the son of a Serbian sovereign, arrived in Palestine. Remembering the will of Saint Sava the Sanctified, the monks of the Lavra gave him the icon of the Mother of God “Mammal”, and also presented from themselves another icon of the Mother of God - “THREE-HANDED”.

Returning from Palestine to Serbia, Saint Sava visited the Hilendar monastery he founded on Mount Athos. He transferred the ownership of the icon of the Mother of God “Mammal” to this monastery, where the image remains to this day. It is remarkable that the icon of the Most Holy Theotokos was placed by Saint Sava in the iconostasis not on the left side of the royal doors, as is customary, but on the right, where the icon of the Savior is usually placed. He placed the image of the Lord Almighty on the left side, where the icon of the Mother of God usually should stand.

The icon of the Most Holy Theotokos “Mammal” depicts the sun and the moon with the corresponding inscriptions. The image is sometimes found in a mirror image and with other symbolism. There are several miraculous lists, each of which has preserved written and oral traditions. Thus, in Russia the image acquired in 1650 in the village of Krestogorsk near Minsk became famous.

An icon similar to the image of Mount Athos was discovered on a tall tree. At the site of her appearance, a temple was built in honor of the Dormition of the Mother of God. The icon was placed above the royal doors and on certain days was lowered so that pilgrims could venerate it. There are many legends about the healing of those suffering through prayers to the Most Holy Theotokos in front of Her “Mammal” icon.

Before the icon of the Most Holy Theotokos “Mammal” they pray during difficult childbirth, about feeding babies with Mother’s milk, when there is a lack of breast milk, as well as about the health of babies.

Face of the Virgin Mary

There is a wonderful copy of the face of the Mother of God in the Odessa Holy Dormition Monastery and a miraculous image found on a tree in the Belarusian Krestogorsk. The healing icon is also present in Moscow, thanks to Gregory of Athos, who devoted a significant part of his life to the wide dissemination of the holy image of the “Mammal” throughout the world.

Among the monks and novices there are ministers of the Holy Orthodox Church capable of prophetic predictions, who help many to gain confidence in the protection of the Almighty from worldly troubles and family problems. As a reward for humility and righteous life, those who received the gift of healing used it in the art of icon painting, conveying the symbolism of divine deeds through the images of human patron saints.

In Catholicism, it is customary to paint pictures of actual subjects in an artistic way, dressing the finished masterpieces in religiosity, while in Orthodoxy, iconography presupposes the focus of a narrow specialization limited to sacred texts. Different traditions of using symbols and signs distinguish the early lists by the presence of heavenly bodies, pointing to the supermundane world, favorable to earthly inhabitants, created in the image and likeness.

Miraculous icons were found on the territory of Rus' during difficult times, although none of them are of Russian origin. The reason for this is the late appearance of Orthodoxy on the territory of the state. The Nursing Queen of Heaven is not often found in churches, but small copies are available for purchase.

It is common to purchase small copies of a pocket version for prayer on the road and in the hospital, before giving birth or treating a baby. Small lists are purchased for home prayer, which helps the presence of spirit in illness, getting rid of temptations that can lead to stress and despondency.

How to arrange an image in the house

It is customary to place an icon in a house in a corner, on the eastern side of the house/apartment, as is customary in the Orthodox tradition. For the image, a shelf is attached to the wall, the size of which depends on the number of icons in the home iconostasis. When there are several images, the image of the holy face of the Savior is installed in the center. The image of the Mother of God is always placed on the right side of the icon of Jesus Christ or the Holy Trinity.

We advise you to study the “Red Corner”: how to arrange a home iconostasis?

There should be no household items near the iconostasis and icons: televisions, computers, bookshelves, flower pots, paintings. A towel embroidered with Orthodox symbols is used as decoration. The place where the holy image is located must be accessible for caring for the icon (keeping it clean and tidy).

What is the power of an image?

In the icon you can see the Mother of God breastfeeding the newborn Christ. They are depicted with the inscriptions Sun and Moon. There are interpretations with mirror reflections and other symbolism. Angels place a crown on the head of the Virgin Mary.

The method of depiction refers to post-Byzantine painting. The faces are painted in two dense layers: a preparatory dark tone of sankir and light pink ocher.

The golden crown has decorations made of stones and crosses, and transparent glaze paints are used. The clothes of the Virgin Mary and Christ are painted with gold, silver and red-orange colors. The green chitons depict floral patterns in gold and silver tones. On the Maforia of the Virgin Mary, a ribbon with a letter ornament runs along the border.

Milk Grotto in Bethlehem

The icon has decorations in the form of votive overlays in silver and gilded colors:

  • crown of Our Lady;
  • halos;
  • cuffs;
  • stars of Bethlehem;
  • 2 cartouches.

According to legend, this image was kept 18 miles from Jerusalem in the monastery of Saint Sava. On his deathbed, he predicted the coming of a Serbian pilgrim with the same name as his. As a blessing, he is given the icon of the Mother of God “Mammal.”

Saint Sava died in the 6th century, and his prediction came true in the 13th century. Archbishop Sava came to Palestine, the monks gave him the image of the Mother of God and the icon of the “Three-Handed Woman”. On his way to Serbia, he visited the Hilendar monastery, which he himself founded on Mount Athos. There Saint Sava left the icon of the Mother of God “Mammal” as a gift. The image is kept there today.

There are legends about miraculous lists. In Russia, the most famous image is the one found in the village of Krestogorsk in 1650. The miraculous lists from Moscow and Odessa, Greece, and Jerusalem are also famous.

The day of veneration of the icon is January 25. On this date, traditional celebrations of the face are held in churches.

Images of the Mother of God for prayers for a child

All maternal petitions were heard by the Intercessor. Therefore, Christians in Rus' have always revered the Mother of God. To this day, the holy image is hung over children’s beds. Young women pray for a long-awaited pregnancy, a safe birth, and a healthy baby. Most often, petitions came to the most revered icons:

  1. Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos “Helper in Childbirth” - helps with labor pains, assists expectant mothers during childbirth, and helps to bear a healthy baby.
  2. Icon “Tikhvin” - the Mother of God blesses newborns, giving them health and peace. Protects from the negativity of the environment. Strengthens the relationship between children and parents.
  3. The “Mammal” icon is a respected image in Italy, in front of which mothers pray for the health of their babies.

The new image of the Virgin Mary, “Addition of Mind,” was painted in the 17th century. From that moment on, it became a good tradition to pray to the icon for schoolchildren and students. The Mother of God will guide the child to acquire new knowledge; learning will be easy and interesting.

Many parents of disobedient and “difficult” children turn to the image “Education” with prayers to the Virgin Mary for their children. This icon is located in St. Petersburg in the Kazan Cathedral.

The Mother of God protects children from misfortune. The image “Savior of Drowning People” will save you from bad weather.

“Akhtyrskaya” is an icon of the Mother of God about the future of a child, about the life structure. Before her they pray for the blessing of the children, so that their life will be easy and comfortable.

Singing to Thee, who gave birth to our Savior, and wrapped Himself in swaddling clothes, and nourished Him with milk, we hope that none of Your requests will remain unanswered from Him, even though the Sweetest Jesus Himself promised Thee; Having firm hope in this, we praise You, our Joy and Consolation:

Rejoice, you who transform fierce sorrows into joy; Rejoice, you who soften the hardness of our hearts with Your love.

Rejoice, you who teach us to love God and our neighbor; Rejoice, instructing us to place our trust in God in our sorrows.

Rejoice, who warms our cold prayers with Thy love; Rejoice, prayers of us sinners and unworthy, like a merciful Mother who accepts.

Rejoice, Virgin Mammal Mother of God, who always nourishes us with Your mercy.

Amen.

We magnify You, Most Holy Virgin, Mammal of our Savior, and honor Your holy image, from whom You have ever given us the grace of healing.

Different traditions

It must be said that the significance of the icon of the Virgin Mammal was noted in a special way not only in Orthodoxy, Catholicism also actively used this plot. Even if, over time, in Orthodoxy such a composition became for the most part an atypical and “highly specialized” option, then in Catholicism the Madonna and Child became a common image.

As you know, in Catholicism, images are more artistic in nature; they are actually paintings, only on religious themes. Therefore, artists here were given the opportunity to use many effective techniques. In particular, in the Mammal Icon of the Mother of God plot there is an opportunity to work with the subtle details of Mary’s face, emphasize various emotions, and create an amazing image of immaculate motherhood.

Many artists, for example Leonardo da Vinci, created similar images. However, after the 16th century, this artistic tradition was interrupted, as Catholics created a ban on the depiction of naked bodies, part of this ban was the image of the Virgin Mary nursing a baby.

Meaning of the icon

Although many, when they look at the Mammal icon of the Mother of God, understand what to pray for only based on direct associations (maternity, lactation, and the like), believers can also use this image in a more profound way. After all, we are talking about symbolism that relates to the incarnation of Christ (the Lord was born in the form of a man) and the relationship of people with the Lord. The Virgin Mary takes care of the Lord and gives him nourishment, in fact the opportunity to exist, but also the Almighty gives every person the opportunity to be born.

Such an amazing and inextricable connection allows you to deeply understand faith. Before the image there is something to think about.

Which icons of saints should I pray to in order to become pregnant and give birth?

Now let’s look at the holy ascetics who helped people throughout their earthly journey and continue to help those praying to this day:

  • Matrona of Moscow. This icon is often used for the birth of a child, because Saint Matronushka performed many miracles and still helps women especially.
  • Ksenia Petersburgskaya. Many pray to this saint for the gift of children; many believers have this icon. Residents of St. Petersburg can even go to the church on Vasilyevskaya Side, which, according to legend, Blessed Ksenia herself helped to build.
  • Righteous Anna and Joachim. They are the parents of the Mother of God and for a long time they themselves could not conceive. Even Vasily the Third, in order to obtain an heir, built a temple in Moscow dedicated to these righteous people.
  • Luka Krymsky. Famous saint of modern times. It helps mainly by healing, so people turn to it when they need to gain confidence in the health of the baby and an easy birth.
  • Seraphim of Sarov. The saint is known for many miracles, you should pray to his icon or relics.

In order for the icon to help against infertility, it is also advisable to get married before prayers.

If you get a positive result, you should definitely thank the patron saints.

History of the icon

The most ancient icon of the Mother of God the Mammal was created in the distant fifth century. After this, the image stayed in Jerusalem for seven centuries and after that went to Athos. There the image was kept until the 19th century, after which it went to the territory of the Kursk region, where a special temple was created for prayer to the icon.

Throughout the history of the image, various facts of healing and help have been recorded. In particular, what the icon of the Mother of God Mammal helps with is most often noted:

  • recovery from gynecological ailments;
  • getting pregnant;
  • eliminating difficulties during pregnancy;
  • increase in milk quantity;
  • easy birth.

Early versions depicted celestial bodies that indicated the earthly world. In turn, the figures of the mother and baby also carried a symbolic meaning; they spoke of the spiritual nutrition of believers. After all, the Mother of God sends her mercy to all believers, protects and helps everyone.

Prayer for breast milk to come after childbirth

The most detailed description: prayer for breast milk to come after childbirth - for our readers and subscribers.

It happens that a young mother is catastrophically short of milk to breastfeed her baby, and at such a moment the prayer of a nursing mother for more milk can come to the rescue. We will talk about how and to whom you can pray to increase your milk supply, and also give some practical advice on improving lactation.

Why does a nursing mother lose milk?

The most valuable thing a mother can give for her newly born baby is breast milk. But not all mothers manage to feed their children naturally, because the milk disappears. And in this case, the majority decides to artificially feed with adaptive formulas.

What can cause a decrease in milk production? Here's why:

  • due to frequent stress of a young mother (in most cases);
  • due to diseases of the mammary glands;
  • due to serious disruptions in a woman’s hormonal system;
  • the woman’s very poor diet and bad habits.

How to increase lactation?

  • Frequent breastfeeding will help increase your milk supply. The more the baby nurses, the more milk the mother will produce.
  • There are special lactogenic herbal teas. They can also be used to improve lactation.
  • Staying calm in any situation also maintains lactation at the proper level. If you cannot cope with stress on your own, you can consult a doctor about this so that he can prescribe sedatives that are compatible with breastfeeding.
  • Walk more in the fresh air and eat properly so that there is a lot of milk, and it contains all the vitamins and microelements that a small child needs.

Which Saint will help in increasing milk supply?

  • The intercessor of all mothers is the Mother of God. Prayers should be sent to her to increase the amount of milk.
  • An icon with the image of the Mother of God should be in the bedroom where the child lives.

We advise you to study What is the Eucharist (Sacrament of Communion)?

How to pray correctly?

  • A young mother should pray for an increase in milk daily in the mornings and evenings.
  • When addressing the Mother of God, you must stand and look at her face. The hands should be closed palm to palm and brought to the lips.
  • You can come up with the text of the prayer yourself and include all your wishes in it. We will only provide you with a sample prayer that you can use as a model.
  • The text of the prayer is as follows: “Most Holy Mother of God, dear Virgin Mary. I have no one else to rely on except you. I thank you and the Lord that I became a mother, and it was not in vain that the baby was sent to me from Heaven, I know that. I want to feed him with breast milk, so that my child will have good health and will not be afraid of any illnesses. I ask you, darling, give me plenty of milk, may my baby never know hunger. In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit! Amen!"
  • You can also put the image of the Mother of God in the crib for your baby, so that the Holy Virgin Mary will protect him from the evil eye and bad human influence, and drive away all illnesses from him. You can additionally pray about this.

You now know the prayer of a nursing mother for more milk, and you know which Saint to contact with this problem.

Good day. Would you like to clarify how to correctly read prayers at home? Robe, do you need a scarf, should you light a candle, in what body position?

Thank you and I apologize for my ignorance

When praying at home, in front of icons, it is advisable for a woman to wear a headscarf. A handkerchief is, of course, not necessary, but it is desirable, since a handkerchief on the head puts you in a prayerful mood.

The same goes for lighting a candle. A warm lamp and a candle put us in a prayerful mood.

You must pray before God and His Holy Saints while standing, but if your health does not allow you to stand for a long time, then, as an exception, you can sit.
