Negligence is a sin that many people forget about

June 13, 2017

Very few people in confession mention negligence, but in confession one cannot expose oneself only partially, because confession is the Lord’s healing of the human soul through repentance. Continuing to study the Patristic materials, I found very interesting notes from the Holy Fathers on negligence. Look how clearly they show that small things can lead to big problems, and, perhaps, this is a small thing only for us, and we are still assessing the situation incorrectly. So, the Patristic sayings:

About negligence

The floating (entertained and distracted) mind is brought into a state of non-floating by reading, vigil and prayer.

Abba Evagrius

Why does negligence happen?

While the soul dreams of earthly things, the various wishes of this world and the vain pleasures that the soul imagines in its thoughts relax its strength.

Negligence in spiritual warfare

In a careless person, the evil one brings into action all kinds of carnal lusts, but he is not able to notice this, because lust has darkened his mind.

Trifle or serious danger?

The consequence of a little negligence is great and incurable wounds

Enough?

He who has worked to his full in bodily pleasures and deeds, let him labor to his full in ascetic labors and sufferings, in order to overcome one thing with another, sweetness with bitterness, and peace with bodily labors, and be satisfied with joy and joy in hope. Thus, you will enjoy the fragrance of chastity and purity, and taste the indescribable sweetness of immortal spiritual fruits.

Rev. Nikita Stifat

Cleansing

Those who have defiled their souls with lawless sinful deeds and passionate movements of the heart and have imprinted on themselves the images and likenesses of lusts, let them try to cleanse themselves with many tears and whiten the garments of their souls, because in any other way it is impossible to see the Light, or God, according to the word of our Lord. Therefore... let us try to keep our hearts pure by keeping our conscience and constantly confessing the innermost thoughts of our hearts. If we confess them often (or better yet, every day), with contrition and heartache, remembering everything and condemning everything: whether we did something bad, or thought something unkind, or said something bad, then we will acquire a repentant and contrite heart, and a repentant heart will extract tears from the depths of the soul, and tears will cleanse the soul and blot out all its sins.

Venerable Simeon the New Theologian

The meaning of the word negligence

For example, prayer rests on love, love on joy, joy on meekness, meekness on humility, humility on service, service on hope, hope on faith, faith on obedience, obedience on simplicity; just as the vices that are contrary to them are connected one with another, for example, hatred with irritability, irritability with pride, pride with vanity, vanity with unbelief, unbelief with hard-heartedness, hard-heartedness with negligence, negligence with laziness, laziness with negligence, negligence with despondency, despondency with impatience, impatience with voluptuousness; and in the same way the other members of vice rest on one another.

As on the opposite side, vices are produced one by another: hatred by irritability, irritability by pride, pride by vanity, vanity by unbelief, unbelief by hard-heartedness, hard-heartedness by negligence, negligence by laziness, laziness by negligence, negligence by despondency, despondency by cowardice, cowardice by voluptuousness, and other vices are mutually related. depend on another: so on the good side of virtue in mutual dependence.

Just as a slave does not dare to say: since I worked yesterday, I will not work now - and calculating the elapsed time (of work) he does not stop (he works) in the following days, but every day, as it is written in the Gospel, he shows the same zeal so that to please our master and not get into trouble: so we too will persevere in feat every day with patience, knowing that if we spend one day in negligence, (the Lord) will not forgive us for the sake of (work) in the past, but will be angry with us for this negligence, So we heard from Ezekiel (18:26): “When a righteous man turns away from his righteousness, and commits sin and dies, in the crime that he commits, in that he will die.”

Drinking liquor in a dream, savoring every sip, means that in the near future you will experience losses, missed opportunities, the cause of which will be your own negligence.

Even Sulla's attempts to introduce a decree on the expulsion or death of doctors for negligence or ignorance failed.

But Grachik was equally sure that if he now refused the policeman, Kruchinin would accuse her of all mortal sins, the first of which would be negligence in the matter, generated by the “Armenian inclination towards her.”

Both of them saw in the behavior of the bishop and missionaries I described a peace of unbelief and even negligence about the salvation of souls through holy baptism.

Here, both worldly and spiritual people experience negligence and despondency, laziness and carelessness about their souls, and many from here are led into the abyss.

It should be noted here that the names of students expelled for negligence, by decision of the university conference, were published in the “Moskovskie Vedomosti” for public information, to shame the offenders.

He didn’t like military service at all because of its routine and pettiness: once he was arrested for negligence.

List of deadly sins

1. Pride, despising everyone, demanding servility from others, ready to ascend to heaven and become like the Most High; in a word, pride to the point of self-adoration.

2. An insatiable soul, or Judas’s greed for money, combined for the most part with unrighteous acquisitions, not allowing a person even a minute to think about spiritual things.

3. Fornication, or the dissolute life of the prodigal son, who squandered all his father’s estate on such a life.

4. Envy, leading to every possible crime against one’s neighbor.

5. Gluttony, or carnal pleasure, not knowing any fasting, combined with a passionate attachment to various amusements, following the example of the Gospel rich man, who had fun all day long.

6. Uncompromising anger and resolving to terrible destruction, following the example of Herod, who in his anger beat the Bethlehem babies.

7. Laziness, or complete carelessness about the soul, carelessness about repentance until the last days of life, as, for example, in the days of Noah.

Special mortal sins - blasphemy against the Holy Spirit

These sins include:

Stubborn unbelief, not convinced by any evidence of truth, even obvious miracles, rejecting the most established truth.

Despair, or the feeling opposite to excessive trust in God in relation to God’s mercy, which denies the fatherly goodness in God and leads to thoughts of suicide.

Excessive trust in God, or continuation of a gravely sinful life in the sole hope of God’s mercy.

Deadly sins that cry out to heaven for vengeance

* In general, intentional homicide (abortion), and especially parricide (fratricide and regicide).

* Sin of Sodom.

* Unnecessary oppression of a poor, defenseless person, a defenseless widow and young orphans.

* Withholding from a wretched worker the wages he deserves.

This sin includes, for example, managers who pay workers wages on which it is impossible to survive.

This sin of leaders is called the mass murder of the poor and wretched.

* Taking away from a person in his extreme situation the last piece of bread or the last mite, which he obtained with sweat and blood, as well as the violent or secret appropriation of alms, food, warmth or clothing from prisoners in prison, which are determined by him, and in general their oppression.

IT’S NOT EVEN WORTH TALKING ABOUT OUR AUTHORITY.....

* Chagrin and insults to parents to the point of impudent beatings.

About the eight main passions with their divisions and branches and about the virtues that oppose them (according to the works of St. Ignatius Brianchaninov)

1. Gluttony - gluttony, drunkenness, failure to keep and allow fasting, secret eating, delicacy, and generally violation of abstinence. Incorrect and excessive love of the flesh, its belly and rest, which constitutes self-love, from which comes failure to remain faithful to God, the Church, virtue and people.

This passion must be countered by abstinence - by refraining from excessive consumption of food and nutrition, especially from drinking wine in excess, and by maintaining fasts established by the Church. One must curb one’s flesh by moderate and constantly equal consumption of food, which is why all passions in general begin to weaken, and especially self-love, which consists of a wordless love of the flesh, life and its peace.

2. Fornication - lustful incitement, lewd feelings and attitudes of the soul and heart. Prodigal dreams and captivities. Failure to preserve the senses, especially the sense of touch, is the insolence that destroys all virtues. Foul language and reading voluptuous books. Natural prodigal sins: fornication and adultery. Prodigal sins are unnatural.

This passion is countered by chastity - avoidance of all kinds of fornication. Chastity is avoidance of voluptuous conversations and reading, and the utterance of voluptuous, foul and ambiguous words. Storing the senses, especially sight and hearing, and even more so the sense of touch. Alienation from television and depraved films, from depraved newspapers, books and magazines. Modesty. Rejection of the thoughts and dreams of prodigals. The beginning of chastity is a mind that does not waver from lustful thoughts and dreams; the perfection of chastity is purity that sees God.

3. Love of money - love of money, in general love of property, movable and immovable. The desire to get rich. Thinking about the means to get rich. Dreaming of wealth. Fears of old age, unexpected poverty, illness, exile. Stinginess. Selfishness. Disbelief in God, lack of trust in His Providence. Addiction or painful excessive love for various perishable objects, depriving the soul of freedom. Passion for vain concerns. Loving gifts. Appropriation of someone else's. Likhva. Cruelty towards the poor brethren and all those in need. Theft. Robbery. Cunning. Deceiving others in order to get money. Lies. Exaltation over others.

They fight this passion by non-acquisitiveness - self-satisfaction with only what is necessary, hatred of luxury and bliss, charity towards the poor. Non-covetousness is the love of gospel poverty. Trust in God's Providence. Following Christ's commandments. Calmness and freedom of spirit and carelessness. Softness of heart.

4. Anger - hot temper, the adoption of angry thoughts: dreams of anger and revenge, indignation of the heart with rage, darkening of the mind by it; obscene shouting, argument, swearing, cruel and caustic words; hitting, pushing, killing. Malice, hatred, enmity, revenge, slander, condemnation, indignation and insult to one’s neighbor.

The passion of anger is opposed by meekness - avoidance of angry thoughts and the indignation of the heart by rage. Patience. Following Christ, who calls His disciple to the cross. Peace of the heart. Silence of the mind. Christian firmness and courage. Not feeling insulted. Kindness.

5. Sadness - grief, melancholy, cutting off hope in God, doubt in the promises of God, ingratitude to God for everything that happens, cowardice, impatience, lack of self-reproach, grief for one's neighbor, grumbling, renunciation of the cross, an attempt to descend from it.

They fight this passion by opposing it with blissful crying - a feeling of the fall common to all people, and their own spiritual poverty. Lamentation about them. Cry of the mind. Painful contrition of the heart. The lightness of conscience, grace-filled consolation and joy that vegetates from them. Hope in God's mercy. Thank God in sorrows, humbly enduring them from the sight of the multitude of one’s sins. Willingness to endure.

6. Despondency - laziness towards any good deed, especially prayer. Abandonment of church and cell rules. Not going to church on Sundays. The vanity of life. Abandonment of unceasing prayer and soul-helping reading. Inattention and haste in prayer. Neglect. Irreverence. Idleness. Excessive calming by sleeping, lying down and all kinds of restlessness. Celebration. Jokes. Blasphemy. Abandonment of bows and other physical feats. Forgetting your sins. Forgetting the commandments of Christ. Negligence. Captivity. Deprivation of the fear of God. Bitterness. Insensibility. Despair leading to thoughts of suicide.

Despair is opposed to sobriety - zeal for every good deed. Non-slothful correction of church and cell rules. Attention when praying. Careful observation of all deeds, words, thoughts

and your feelings. Extreme self-distrust. Continuous stay in prayer and the Word of God. Awe. Constant vigilance over oneself. Keeping yourself from a lot of sleep and effeminacy, idle talk, jokes and sharp words. Love of night vigils, bows and other feats that bring cheerfulness to the soul. Remembrance of eternal blessings, desire and expectation of them.

7. Vanity - the search for human glory. Boasting. Desire and search for earthly and vain honors. Loving beautiful clothes. Attention to the beauty of your face, the pleasantness of your voice and other qualities of your body. Shame to confess your sins. Hiding them before people and the spiritual father. Craftiness. Self-justification. Envy. Humiliation of one's neighbor. Changeability of character. Indulgence. Unconscionability. The character and life are demonic.

Vanity is fought with humility . This virtue includes the fear of God. Feeling it during prayer. Fear that arises during especially pure prayer, when the presence and greatness of God is felt especially strongly, so as not to disappear and turn into nothing. Deep knowledge of one's insignificance. A change in view of one’s neighbors, and they, without any coercion, seem to the humbled person to be superior to him in all respects. The manifestation of simplicity from living faith. Knowledge of the mystery hidden in the Cross of Christ. The desire to crucify oneself to the world and passions, the desire for this crucifixion. Rejection of earthly wisdom as obscene before God (Lk. 16:15). Silence before those who offend, studied in the Gospel. Putting aside all your own speculations and accepting the mind of the Gospel. The casting down of every thought that rises up against the mind of Christ. Humility or spiritual reasoning. Conscious obedience to the Church in everything.

8. Pride is contempt for one's neighbor. Preferring yourself to everyone. Insolence; darkness, dullness of mind and heart. Nailing them to the earthly. Hula. Disbelief. False mind. Disobedience to the Law of God and the Church. Following your carnal will. Abandonment of Christ-like humility and silence. Loss of simplicity. Loss of love for God and neighbor. False philosophy. Heresy. Godlessness. Ignorance. Death of the soul.

Pride is opposed to love . The virtue of love includes changing the fear of God into the love of God during prayer.

Fidelity to the Lord, proven by the constant rejection of every sinful thought and feeling, the indescribable, sweet attraction of the whole person with love for the Lord Jesus Christ and for the worshiped Holy Trinity. Seeing the image of God and Christ in others; resulting from this spiritual vision, the preference for oneself over all neighbors, their reverent veneration for the Lord. Love for neighbors, brotherly, pure, equal to everyone, joyful, impartial, flaming equally towards friends and enemies.

Admiration for prayer and love of the mind, heart and whole body. Indescribable pleasure of the body with spiritual joy. Inactivity of the bodily senses during prayer. Resolution from the muteness of the heart's tongue. Stopping prayer from spiritual sweetness.

Silence of the mind. Enlightening the mind and heart. Prayer power that overcomes sin. Peace of Christ. Retreat of all passions. The absorption of all understandings into the superior mind of Christ. Theology. Knowledge of incorporeal beings. The weakness of sinful thoughts that cannot be imagined in the mind. Sweetness and abundant consolation in times of sorrow.

Vision of human structures. The depth of humility and the most humiliating opinion of oneself... The end is endless!

Pregnancy and childbirth are behind us. And now you are holding in your arms a miracle - “an inheritance from the Lord” - your child. How to raise him healthy, strong, not afraid of any difficulties? What are the most common health problems for babies from birth to one year? A word from a pediatrician with 20 years of experience, Tatyana Panteleeva, who together with her parents “raised” hundreds of children.

Spiritual aggression against Russia

At the beginning of the last century, 90% of children were breastfed. But the technological progress of the 20th century did not bypass newborns either. From all sides we are being “persuaded” that mother “may not have milk”, and against the backdrop of this hysteria, the supply of artificial formula to our country from manufacturers is increasing.

Advertising of “breast milk substitutes” - in the absence of information on how to preserve breast milk - encourages mothers to bottle-feed. In Russia, ten years ago, only 42% of infants under three months and 28% under six months were breastfed. Orthodox doctor hieromonk Anatoly (Berestov)

believes that “feeding children with formula is a spiritual aggression against Russia.” But breast milk is the ideal food for babies, given by God.

— How to maintain breastfeeding?

- A half-hour, or better yet an hour, attachment to the breast is necessary from the first minutes of the child, when the umbilical cord has not yet been cut. It is very important to feed the baby with colostrum in the first days and do without supplementary feeding. Colostrum is a valuable product; it contains all the nutrients, enzymes, vitamins, and antibodies that protect the child from infection. And the mixtures that are given to the baby in the maternity hospital instead of colostrum lead to weakened immunity, dysbacteriosis and allergies. If there is not enough milk, give the baby one breast first, then the other. Start the next feeding with the one given last. Free feed as often as possible. After two or three days, the amount of milk will increase - the baby will have enough of it. But no supplementary feeding and no drinking! For long and successful feeding, mother and baby need to sleep together. I also advise a nursing mother to pray to the Mother of God in front of the Mammal icon and order prayer services.

Breast milk contains unique types of proteins not found in formulas, which maintain bacterial balance in the intestines and prevent the development of dysbiosis. Breast milk proteins and fats, which are in the form of a fat emulsion, are well absorbed. Breast milk contains a lot of lactose, which is needed for brain development and normal bowel function. Artificial milk formulas are very sweet, which increases fermentation in the intestines, impairs digestion, disrupts metabolism, and contributes to the development of obesity. 50-70% of iron is absorbed from breast milk, and only 4% from formulas. Breast milk contains a lot of calcium and phosphorus salts, which are necessary for the development of the skeletal system. Due to their lack of supply during artificial feeding, in our time, children develop early chondrosis, scoliosis, and flat feet.

Neglect of children is the greatest wickedness

— In order to finish their studies or make a career at work, mothers often leave their babies to grandmothers and nannies, depriving their babies of breastfeeding.

— St. Basil the Great says: “Neglect of children is the greatest wickedness.” The baby needs his mother, the closest person, and even an hour-long separation is extremely stressful for him.

“But it happens that the mother has a disease in which breastfeeding is contraindicated. Which mixture should you choose?

— It’s better not to buy soy-based mixtures. For example, Nestlé uses genetically modified soybeans, and the consequences are unpredictable, and the worst of them is cancer. When choosing a mixture, look at its composition. The Research Institute of Nutrition of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences has developed a table indicating the amount of necessary substances for a child’s given age. Strictly follow the instructions for preparing the mixture.

Move the TV away

“I often saw a mother or grandmother feeding a baby from a bottle and watching TV at the same time, with a cell phone in her pocket. And next to me dad is working on the computer. It is harmful?

— All these “benefits of civilization” have a harmful effect on the delicate nervous system of children. But the TV and computer can be turned off, but we constantly carry a mobile phone in our pocket, on our belt, and at night we put it next to ourselves and our infants as an alarm clock. But this device constantly emits high-frequency electromagnetic radiation, oppressing all living things near it. Back in 2001, the European Parliament Research Directorate issued a “sentence” on the cell phone: it weakens the immune system, causes the development of epilepsy and cancer.

When feeding the baby, let the mother sing him a lullaby, or even better, prayers, while caressing the baby.
