COMMANDMENTS OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST

In this chapter we will undertake a study of the commands of Christ. They are very important, for if a person believes that Jesus Christ was the greatest teacher who ever lived, then he will also probably agree that His commands should be obeyed. I mean “...That you call Me: “Lord!” God!" and do not do what I say?” (Luke 6:46). The idea that a person can believe in Christ and trust Christ as their Savior and not pay attention to what He commanded is quite strange. Even the liberal and modernist preacher (although he does not believe in Jesus Christ as Savior and Redeemer) at least claims to follow His example or way of life. There can be nothing more ridiculous than a person who professes faith and yet ignores what Christ commanded.
In this lesson we will talk about Christ's commands regarding a number of things. We have His commands regarding repentance, His commands regarding faith, His commands regarding being born again, and these commands are, of course, binding. They are not declarative, like “Let's do it!” and not conjectural, as in “You can do it.” They are required. They: “Do this!” or “Don’t do that!” This, again, raises the issue of authority, which is the most important theme of the word of God. This explains why people who deny authority, rebel against authority and love to be their own gods, do not pay any attention at all to what Jesus Christ said.
First of all, regarding repentance (which some of you have never practiced and know nothing about). In Matthew 4:17, Christ said, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” In Matthew 6:33: “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness . In Luke 13 He said, “...unless you repent, you will all likewise perish . He commanded, “Repent and believe the Gospel.” You will say: “I don’t believe it.” You disobeyed His command. How can you cry out to Him “Lord! God!" and not do what He says? Why do you some of the people insist on praying in the name of the Lord and repeating the “Lord's Prayer” if you respect what He wanted you to do as if He were a street sweeper?! He said, “Repent and believe the Gospel.” It was a commandment! Have you obeyed her? John 14:1: “...believe in God and believe in Me.” This is a definite commandment. You don't have to be a deist or a theist. You must not simply believe in God like a deist or a theist, but you must believe in his Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
John 3:7 says, “Marvel not at this, that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.” This is the command to be born again. He doesn't ask your opinion. He doesn't ask what you or your friends think about it. Moreover, he does not ask what your church teaches about this. He said, "You must be born again." You also need to be very careful to notice that the word “baptism” does not appear in the 15 verses either side of this verse, either before or after it. He said in John 6:29, “…This is the work of God, that you should believe in Him whom He sent.” You say: “I believe that all religions...”. He gave the commandment to believe in Him! Being born again is the mysterious operation of the regenerating Spirit. In Luke 10:20, Christ said, “...Rejoice that your names are written in heaven ,” but only if you are born again. “Do not be surprised at what I said to you: you must be born again.” In Matthew 12:33 He said, “Either make the tree good, and the fruit thereof good; or recognize the tree as bad and its fruit as bad; for a tree is known by its fruit.” Appeal is the only solution. He does not ask you to whitewash the tree, repair it, prune it, plant new branches on it; what He requires is a new tree.
Regarding the reception of the Holy Spirit, Christ in John 20:22 breathed on them and said (command): “... Receive the Holy Spirit,” in Luke 24:49 (command): “... But remain ye in the city of Jerusalem until you have been endowed with by the power from above.” Both of these operations are provided when a Christian accepts the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior, but in the context of the appearance of these passages (John 20:22 and Luke 24:49), the Holy Spirit was not officially given from heaven to earth.
In terms of following Him, Jesus commands, and the believer has no choice but to follow Jesus unconditionally. In John 12:26 He said, “Whoever serves Me, let him follow Me...” . In Luke 9:23: “...If anyone wants to come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me.” He said, “...Thou shalt follow Me” in John 21:22. He told Matthew in Luke 5:27, “...Follow Me.” He didn't say, "If you wish." He said: “...Follow Me . This is the motto of the infantry school at Fort Benning, Georgia. Isn't it strange that an unsaved person would lay down his life for the government and yet not follow Jesus Christ. Isn't that weird?
As for prayer, the Lord has certain commands. If you accept the commandments of the Lord Jesus Christ, then the Christian life should be characterized by prayer. He said in Luke 21:36, “Watch therefore at all times and pray...” . In Luke 22:40: “...Pray that you will not fall into temptation . In Matthew 9:38: “Pray therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send out laborers into his harvest.” In Luke 6:28: “...Pray for those who despitefully use you . These are commands. He didn't ask your opinion or what you thought at all. This is what squeezes the “tar” out of the modern Christian.
The modern Christian is an apostate and cannot stand “sound doctrine.” These sound doctrinal positions are so sound that Paul said in 1 Timothy 6:3-4, “If anyone teaches otherwise and does not follow the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the doctrine of godliness, he is proud and knows nothing . The saint of God is exalted because he has faith in the great God, and Christ commands faith. In Mark 11:23 He said, “...Have the faith of God.” This is absolutely necessary. In John 20:27: “...And be not an unbeliever, but a believer . Down with disbelief! You are commanded to believe. In Matthew 14:27: “...Be of good cheer; It is I, do not be afraid.”
The Lord Jesus Christ commanded the child of God to search the Scriptures. This simple command is found in John 5:39: “Search the Scriptures...” . He said in John 15:20, “Remember the word that I spoke to you...” . We must read. We must study. We must remember. The Apostle Paul said in 2 Timothy 2:15, “Be diligent to show yourself approved to God, a workman who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” Christian people, are you studying the word of God? Do you know that you have been commanded to do this? Do you search the Scriptures? Did you know that this is the commandment of the Lord Jesus Christ in John 5:39? And I don’t mean sitting over five versions saying, “I like this,” “This reads like this,” but “I believe it like this,” and “What does your version say.” I'm not talking about the confusion and anarchy brought about by Christian theologians splitting the Body of Christ over power. Every Christian must make his light shine daily as he obeys God's commandments. In Matthew 5:16, Christ said, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works...” . The modern Christian is a thin-skinned, weak anarchist. And some of these people are not meek enough to submit to God once when the word of God is contrary to what they think or what they have been taught. This great typology set forth in John 13 clearly had nothing to do with the literal washing of feet, for when He came to wash Peter’s feet, He said to Simon Peter: “What I do now you do not know, but you will understand later” (John 13:7), clearly telling us that something more than ordinary foot washing was taking place. That's not all. The Lord Jesus Christ did not say about this example: “Do what I did for you” - washed your feet, but “That you also should do the same as (in the King James Bible - approx. transl.) I did to you,” humbling and serving them. Christians must serve each other with their words. Nothing can be clearer than this from the passages of Paul's epistles, where we are told that the church must be washed and sanctified “by the washing of water by the word,” and not by the baptism. See Ephesians 5:24-27.
The Lord Jesus Christ gave us a commandment regarding His second Coming, saying: “Be ready, you also, for at an hour when you do not think, the Son of Man is coming” , Luke 12:40, We must be ready for the Second Coming of Christ at any moment, and our opinion was not asked about it. This command was binding: “Be ready, too . "Be ready". These are orders.
If the average born again Christian had the attitude of the Prussian military personnel at the War College in Konigsberg, Prussia, we would have a better Christianity. For the German general, “an order is an order.” For a Christian, a command today is a proposal in an ordinary church. You understand, of course, that once you are done with the Authorized Version, you are done with your authority. And once you have done away with authority, you leave your community in a position where any person can pick up a version that will preach or teach whatever he wants it to teach; then you will have anarchy. Your church will not split in half. Your church will split into a thousand pieces. Often those of us who stand up for the word of God and spread it, preach it, teach it, practice it and promote it, are accused of splitting churches because we exalt one Book as the final, absolute standard of authority. This is done by people who have already split their churches into hundreds of parts, robbing them of their authority; and ultimately: “...God is not a God of confusion...” , 1 Corinthians 14:33. If you stand in the pulpit and say, “Open your Bibles to John 3:18 and read,” and then four hundred people pick up their Bibles and get six different readings, don't blame me for it. This church was not split by a man who believed that the Bible was the word of God. This church was split by a man who constantly referred to the Greek language and changed the text so often to boast of his learning (so that people would think he was smart) that at last they considered that the opinion of any man was as good as everyone else, and that the Bible was not has no authority. That's what happened there. “Be ready, too . This is a command.
We must be faithful unto death. Matthew 24:13 speaks of this in connection with the Tribulation and tells the Tribulation saints that they will be saved if they “endure to the end.” Although Christians have been told that “neither future” in life or death will separate us from God's love (Rom. 8:38-39), we are still commanded to run the race patiently. “Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith,” we must go through it in such a way as to overcome it. In Hebrews 12:1-2 Paul says at the end of his ministry that he was an example to the believer and “a pattern to those who shall hereafter believe in Him for eternal life ,” and regarding this pattern He says, “I have fought a good fight, accomplished, kept the faith; And now there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all those who loved His appearing” , 2 Timothy 4:7-8.
In conclusion, regarding the commands of Christ, we can say that if a person loves Christ, he will keep His words, John 14:23. He doesn't change them. This is a true test. We must use these commands as an inventory to examine our personal lives before God. “Whoever loves Me,” said Jesus, “keeps My word.” “If you love Me, keep My commandments” , John 4:15. We must obey what the Lord Jesus Christ commanded.
If these commandments were given specifically to Israel, then, of course, they are not intended specifically for us; so that we must study to show ourselves approved to God (2 Tim. 2:15), and to know which commandments are for us and which are not. If these commandments are directed toward the Tribulation saints (as in Matthew 24 and 25), then we must “rightly divide the word of truth” and discern which commandments are given to those outside the church, the Gentile Gentiles; to those in the church composed of the Body of Christ - both Jews and Gentiles; and which are aimed at Israel in the flesh, for the Jews themselves. The Bible clearly distinguishes between three main types of those for whom the word of God is written: the Church, the Jews, and the Gentiles. Since there is neither Jew nor Gentile in the Body of Christ, we must distinguish commands for unsaved Gentiles. We must keep these words and these commandments. Christ said: “Whoever loves Me keeps My word .
You, of course, clearly realize that the 10 commandments of the Old Testament were replaced by two new ones in John 13 and 16. And, clearly, the law written on the tablets of stone, 2 Corinthians 3, was done away with when you were born again. Christians are “not under the law, but under grace” according to Romans 6. But we realize that the moral attitude of these laws binds the Christian, at least in the sense of his fellowship with the Lord, according to Romans 13. Of course, we know that the Sabbath, as a ceremonial law, was given as a sign, but other laws were not. The Sabbath day was a sign given to Israel, that they might know that He was the Lord God who sanctified them; non-born again believer (Please look at Nehemiah 9 and Ezekiel 20).
Therefore, speaking of “commands” and “commandments,” it is imperative for a Christian to know when a command is intended for him and when it is not for him. It is not your business to steal commands intended for someone else, and then pretend that they are for you, although they are not. And it is not your business at all to disobey the commands intended for you and pretend that they are for someone else, while they are for you.

If you weren't lazy, you'd devote as much time to God's word as you do to paying your bills. The command was: “...Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God ,” Matthew 4:4.
