When work makes you happy
Our work is an integral part of life. For some it brings satisfaction, joy and material well-being, and for others it brings a feeling of unfulfillment, boredom and disappointment. In any case, many of us spend almost the entire day at the workplace. So why not make your stay at the workplace at least comfortable, and maybe even more successful?
Whether your workspace is in a huge corporate office or at home, in the cozy corner of your bedroom, you can create good Feng Shui for your workspace. It turns out that such simple manipulations as the correct location of the desktop in relation to the doors and windows, its proper arrangement, color design and even a certain place for papers on it can significantly affect your work life. This will help you better concentrate on your tasks, achieve better results faster and actively develop.
Correct location of the desktop according to Feng Shui
To begin with, we will list general recommendations for arranging a workplace, regardless of its location.
- Feng Shui table placement
There should be free space between your desk and the opposite wall - this is your horizons, perspective and plans for the future. So their breadth directly depends on the space in front of you.
- You cannot place a table under protruding ceiling beams - the protruding corners will produce unnecessary destructive energy.
- The table should not be placed on the same line between the window and the door. This way you will be “blown out” of the room, and with you, all your undertakings, projects and money will be taken out.
- Do not sit directly facing the door - it is best to sit diagonally.
In relation to the window
If your room has very large windows, this is good, you probably have a lot of light and air. But try to sit further away from such a window. A large window creates a feeling of unconscious danger and prevents you from concentrating on specific tasks.
In relation to the door
Feng Shui in relation to a table mainly comes down to choosing the right place to place it in relation to the windows and doors in the room.
Since ancient times, walls have been associated with protection and support, and doors with danger. Therefore, do not sit with your back to the door at your desk. Sitting with your back to the door, you will always be in tension, anxiously awaiting an “attack” of troubles from behind. Also, don't sit with your back to the corner. It is best if you have a flat wall or a closed cabinet behind you. Avoid sharp corners of cabinets, walls, or other tables facing your desk.
The optimal location of the table is near the wall, with your back to it, with a window and door to your right and left, so that you can see everyone entering the office and receive sunlight. And if we remember the rules of comfortable work, familiar to us from school, try to ensure that the light falls on the workplace from the left (for left-handed people - from the right).
Table and mirror lighting
Desktop in relation to the window
As for the lighting of your workplace in general, it should be good in the office itself, and also present on your desk. Place a lamp on the table with an ordinary light bulb, avoid fluorescent lamps. Such a lamp, and even in a beautiful lampshade of honey or golden color (these are the colors of money and prosperity), will become your faithful assistant and a kind of symbol of good luck.
There is a special attitude towards mirrors in Feng Shui; you need to be careful with them. Try to sit in your office so that you are not reflected in the mirror, otherwise all your efforts will simply be absorbed and dissolved. This is especially true for people who work with money - they can simply disappear.
Chair in the workplace
The chair must be proportional to the size of your table. Like the table itself, it needs to be stable, so slippery flooring and spinning casters on the legs are not a good combination. It is advisable to have a chair with armrests and a comfortable back - this will not only give your back a comfortable, comfortable position, but will also allow you to feel support and support in your affairs.
It is also very important to properly organize the desktop itself - after all, it can also be divided into sectors using the Bagua compass and activated. You can read about how to do this in our article on desktop feng shui.
Octagon Bagua
Like many spaces organized according to Feng Shui, the desktop space in the office is oriented towards zones distributed along the Bagua octagon.
Its 8 sectors cover everything that is dear and important to a person. I visually divided the table into three parts: center, right and left sides, and then these parts into 8 zones:
. This is where my assistant on the path to a career stands - a computer. It is believed that ideal order should reign here, and it is better to completely free this place from unnecessary objects.
A screensaver on your desktop is important. I placed a picture of a waterfall there, because water brings money, and why do you need a career that is not accompanied by financial incentives?
and development prospects. I planned to continue working in this office, so I put a folder there with our working group’s plan for a new project.
. The company's achievements in general and yours in particular, the company logo - that's what should be there. There are no such attributes, which means you need to put a jade pyramid there, which is what I did. And again, there should not be anything superfluous that obscures the perspective. Purity and emptiness are your sign to the Universe that you are ready for fruitful work.
. Two children's faces with a serious dad between them smile cheerfully at me from the photo, adding motivation to work and positive emotions.
. There should be already completed projects or things that embody creativity for each individual person.
. A work phone, a diary, a notebook, a business card holder are the inhabitants of this place. I have a list of phone numbers of business contacts in our office and beyond.
. This is where a pot with a money tree or a three-legged toad with a coin in its mouth would be nice. But as soon as I imagined the face of the head of the department looking at these attributes, I somehow didn’t want to bring the fat plant in a pot and the toad here. It turned out that they can be replaced with a table clock and a table lamp, and if these items are purple, a bonus or salary increase is not far off.
. This is where what you would like to spend your energy in the near future should be – projects, articles, coursework, dissertation. Place them there in a neat pile, and the strength will appear on its own.
. Reference books or other items that are sources of knowledge for you are appropriate there. You can keep a notepad and pen there as a symbol of openness to gaining knowledge. If there is nothing like that, then a rock crystal would be appropriate in this zone.
It is absolutely not necessary to clutter all the tables in the office with crystals and pyramids with table lamps. The main thing is to choose what is relevant for everyone at the moment and activate this particular area of the desktop.
Feng shui home workplace
Workplace at home
If you work from home, then it is much easier for you to properly equip your workplace. You can choose where to place your desk in relation to the windows and door. Therefore, be sure to take the opportunity to Feng Shui your workplace at home. This won’t hurt any more, because working at home, when you don’t have a demanding boss or pressing deadlines, requires special concentration and good conditions for the work process.
In general, determining in which sector your table is currently located and in which zone it should actually be located is very useful. If, for example, you see that your work is not going well, you cannot concentrate, and your tasks are creative, then a table standing, for example, in the southwest (in the family area) will clearly not improve the work process.
Therefore, decide on the sector in which you will place your desktop using the Bagua compass. Of course, the best sectors to work in would be the sectors of fame, career and wealth. Depending on what goal you set for yourself in your work, use Feng Shui to activate the zones you need.
We have discussed all the recommendations for the location of the desktop itself in the room above. They are applicable for choosing a place to place a table both at home and in the office. Let us remind you that the best place for a table will be near the wall, diagonally to the door and with a window on your side.
As for special recommendations for equipping a workplace at home, here you can better work out all the zones and activate them in all possible ways: color, plants, symbols, and so on.
Comfort at work
The choice of furniture is also important. It is important to pay special attention when organizing your professional space and focus not only on costs, but also on functionality and ergonomics. Sitting in a comfortable chair is more pleasant, but the accuracy of decisions made can be affected by a chair that presses us.
Productivity is not just about our good will. The environment in which we work seems to play a key role. It is worth investing in the office decor and furniture that we will put in it, and the effectiveness of our efforts will increase several times.
Always in case of any doubts, we can take the help of a professional who will help us find solutions tailored to our needs.

Workplace in the office according to feng shui
If you are an office employee, then you most likely did not have the opportunity to choose your workplace. But you can do something to arrange it in accordance with Feng Shui recommendations. This particularly applies to your desktop.
- Feng Shui of the office workplace
If you work in an office with someone, under no circumstances place desks head-to-head with your colleague. This will lead to conflicts and “division” of territory.
- If your desk is in line between the doors and the window, be sure to find an opportunity to move or turn the desk around.
- If the table is positioned so that you are sitting facing the wall, find an opportunity to turn it around, otherwise you simply will not have any new ideas, nor the strength and space to implement them.
- Do not sit close with your back or face to the window. The best location of the window in relation to the table is on the side.
- Do not sit with your back to the door, or too close to it. The best location is diagonally.
- If you work directly with money, avoid mirrors in front, behind and to the sides of you.
- If it happens that you are sitting with your back to the window and there is no way to move the table, be sure to cover the window with curtains or blinds.
- Do not sit next to or under an air conditioner - it will also “blow” all useful thoughts out of your head and dissipate energy, and in general, sitting under it is harmful - you may get blown out.
- Avoid stairs near your desk—both in the immediate vicinity of your desk and within your line of sight.
- If, like most office buildings, your door opens onto a long hallway, don't sit facing it. In general, try to stay as far away from long common hallways as possible.
- Make sure there is no passage behind you. This is especially true for managers.
- If you are a manager, then your desk should be located as far as possible from the entrance, corridor and passages - this will negatively affect your career and may reduce your authority among your subordinates.
What to remember about cabinets?
Close the doors.
Keep all cabinets and drawers close to your workplace closed, otherwise absent-mindedness and disorganization cannot be avoided.

Feng Shui does not like open shelving near the workplace. All storage furniture must have solid, tightly closed doors.
To keep equipment at a distance, place it on a mobile stand and move it away from you as much as possible while working.

Choosing colors in the design of the office
Workplace color scheme
Modern offices in a minimalist hi-tech style, using the principles of open space and cubicles made of glass and metal, are not the best assistants in organizing the Feng Shui of the workplace. Unfortunately, white and black offices are now in fashion, but these are the colors of stagnation and despondency, and certainly not creativity and the generation of new productive ideas. Therefore, be sure to try to dilute the interior of your office with bright colors. For example, warm yellow or orange colors will symbolize prosperity, green will make you more confident and calm, and different shades of red will encourage you to take action. Find your harmony in the combination of colors, and then they will surely work to achieve success.
The most important Feng Shui recommendation, regardless of where your workplace is located - at home or in the office, is cleanliness and order, which should always be in your workplace. Get rid of paper waste in a timely manner, then you will have free space both literally and figuratively for new interesting ideas.
