Sui Dynasty
(Chinese: 隋, pinyin:
Suí
; 581-618) - a Chinese dynasty that united the country after a long period of unrest. Carried out a number of socio-economic reforms and major construction projects.
Founding of a dynasty
The period of the 3rd-6th centuries was one of the most difficult in the history of China. After the fall of the Han Dynasty (220) and the collapse of the empire, the state's economy experienced a sharp decline. Many ancient cities were destroyed, agriculture in the north of the country degraded.
Over time, the “barbarian” Tabgach dynasty of Northern Wei became sinicized to a large extent, and its military power weakened. There was a threat of invasion of China by the hordes of the Turkic Kaganate. At the end of the 6th century, in the northern Chinese state of Northern Zhou (which inherited Wei), Chinese and sinicized Turkic aristocrats led by Yang Jian managed to come to power. Thanks to the negative attitude of the majority of Chinese towards feudal fragmentation, as well as the will of the aristocracy to consolidate against external enemies and internal economic problems, Yang and his supporters were able to achieve the unification of the country with relative ease. In 581, Yang Jian was proclaimed emperor of the new Sui dynasty under the name Wendi. He became the first ruler in more than 300 years whose power extended over all of China.
Socio-economic reforms
The conquest of the south was carried out without major bloodshed and destruction - i.e. The economy of the south (monetarized, unlike the north) turned out to be an important aid in imperial development. Thanks to stability, trade began to develop in the cities, and merchant and craft guilds were formed. By reducing taxes and abolishing a number of state monopolies, Yang Jian managed to speed up the further development of trade and agriculture. In 583, a new set of laws was adopted, significantly simplifying and rationalizing the previous versions.
However, in 604, the emperor was killed by his own son, Yang Guang, after which he took the throne under the name Yang Di. Yang Guang significantly radicalized and tightened agricultural policies. Land allotments of peasants were reduced, and taxes and taxes were increased, and most of them went to the treasury, and not for local needs. In connection with the implementation of such epoch-making projects as the Imperial Canal, labor obligations also increased. Yang Guang sought to further centralize power in China and deprive the local elites opposed to the court of any remaining influence. On the other hand, Yang Guang supported science and culture, introduced examinations for government positions, and strengthened the position of civilian officials over the military.
Major projects
The Big Stone Bridge is a rare architectural monument of the Sui Dynasty.
Despite its short reign, the Sui dynasty left behind quite a number of grandiose structures that brought China considerable fame and benefit. The largest can be attributed to the thorough reconstruction of the Chinese wall, which was dilapidated by that time; the construction of the Grand (Imperial) Canal - until the 19th century, which was the largest artificial waterway in the world, as well as the construction of a palace ensemble in Luoyang - the new capital of the empire, which amazed with its splendor.
Up to two million people worked on the construction of the capital's palace complex, and one million each on the reconstruction of the Great Wall and the laying of the Imperial Canal. Semi-slave labor of enslaved peasants was widely used. According to the results of tax censuses, the population of China decreased three times (from 60 to 20 million).
The Grand Imperial Canal connected the Yangtze and Yellow Rivers, the rich fertile South and the North, which was reviving after the era of barbarian raids. It became the most important trade route within China, the main transport artery for transporting grain, food, and goods for centuries to come.
Tai sui, sui po, sha 5 tigers and more
Articles like these about general influences are a reason to analyze your home and prepare it for the new year. But it is best to do this already knowing the natal star chart at a minimum. Although I was told about a lady living in Hong Kong who gave her clients advice only on annual and monthly stars - and her clients prospered)
There are general recommendations. And there are individual ones: everyone has their own living space, birth chart (bazi), period in life. And you need to understand that the articles can only give general recommendations. When I write “Monkey 2020 faces the Tiger, therefore those born in the year of the Tiger need to be careful,” does not mean that all Tigers urgently need to crawl under the covers and sit there until February 2020! For some, the collision will be very useful. And the events that this collision will bring depend on where the Tiger is in the bazi chart, whether it is useful or not, and so on. Even from what happens to the Tiger or Monkey sectors in your home. Feng Shui is VERY individual.
Open the table of flying stars for 2020 and for each month
Nine in the East . Favorable sector! Good for making money, improving financial prospects, and in a fairly easy way. Nine will also help to activate romantic luck. However, if your bedroom is in the east, and you are already married, moderate your ardor and try not to command your husband too actively. Better channel your energy into work. ) An eastern bedroom with a southeast door is good for conception. To use the potential of nine, place a fan, a mobile, a bright lamp, and burn candles in this sector. Monthly stars can also help: in March, October and December there are more opportunities for conception (if you sleep in the eastern bedroom). If pregnancy is not planned, use contraception, especially during these months.
9 will have the greatest impact this year on:
- Eldest son
- Man with Gua 3
- A man from 30 to 45 years old
Unit in the southeast . Favorable sector. Throughout the year, this sector is good for working, relaxing, especially if you are going to study or take exams, as well as being creative. Inspiration will not take long to arrive.
The unit will best affect:
- Eldest daughter
- Man with Gua 4
- Woman from 30 to 45 years old
To further activate this sector so that not only the mind, but also creativity flourishes, place 4 calligraphy brushes in a glass or 4 bamboo branches in a vase of water.
Six in the South . But in this palace the powers of the six are weakened. If you have a bedroom in the south, take care of your health, especially your lungs and head. Don't sleep here if you have problems with blood vessels or high blood pressure. Try not to be authoritarian yourself, especially when communicating with children, or behave smartly and flexibly so as not to get “on the carpet” with your superiors. In 2020, accessories made of natural stone, ceramics, and square shapes are good in the southern sector.
Six will have the greatest impact on:
- People with gua 9
- Women 15-30 years old
- Middle daughters
Star of Wealth 8 in the southwest . Favorable sector. It’s great if your front door, bedroom, bed or desk is in the southwest. But you have to really work! You should be very disciplined and consistent in your work if your desk is in the southwest room. Place a pendulum clock or mobile in this sector to activate the energy of wealth. (Provided that the natal stars here are favorable). Don't forget to rest on time. By the way, the southwest has a good qi men structure all year round, so if your southwest stars are actually in the southwest, you're in luck! (I’ll write about how to distribute annual and monthly stars correctly the other day).
Who's lucky:
- For those who have activity from the southwest (but not sha)
- The eldest woman in the family
- Woman over 45 years old
- People with gua 2
Four in the west. Four is the star of romance. In this sector it is under the control of metal and therefore difficult to use. Take care of your liver if you sleep in a western room. Quarrels between women in the family are possible; also be careful with sharp objects. Place 4 aquatic plants in a vase in this sector to smooth out the conflict of elements.
The influence of the four can most affect:
- Sleeping in this sector
- people with gua 7
- young girls and girls
- younger daughters
Troika in the northwest . The star of quarrels is not so strong in this sector, but, nevertheless, try to restrain yourself and do not enter into conflicts. Be careful driving and on the road if this combination lands on your bed or front door.
Who will be more affected by:
- On those sleeping in this sector
- Those who have sha or ugly structures on this side
- People with gua 6
- Father, husband
- A man over 45 years old
Seven in the North . Star of robbery, operations, trials and intrigue. If your front door is located here, then update the alarm system, and check the locks when leaving the house. Be careful when choosing food, as in this sector 7 provokes poisoning. Also, do not abuse alcohol. In the north, 7 is depleted by the energy of the sector, but it should not be completely written off.
Risk:
- Those who sleep in this room
- People with gua 1
- young people from 15 to 30 years old
- Middle son
Traditional remedies for seven:
- Set the alarm, check the functionality of the locks
- Remove all red objects
- No open fire (fireplace, stove, candle)
- 3 or 4 branches of an aquatic plant (bamboo) in this sector, it is the water that is important
- Bowl or vase with salt water
- Rug in black or blue with a wavy pattern
It is absolutely not necessary to use ALL means, just one is enough. And don’t forget the rules of correction - pay attention to the bedroom, front door, office. You should not decorate all rooms with correctors, including the bathroom and wardrobe
May the feng shui of the Auspicious Stars be with you)

The main energy of the year, the Prince of the Year or Tai Sui , is located in the southwest 3 .
This is the most powerful energy of the year; the sector and the combination of flying stars in it are activated. Therefore, carefully analyze the southwest and think about how you can use the strengthening of this sector to your advantage. Traditionally, it is not recommended to disturb the Tai Sui site, carry out repair work in it, or dig in this direction. It is also not recommended to sit facing the direction of the Prince of the Year; it is better to sit with your back to him in order to receive support. You should not sleep or sit in the Tai Sui sector, especially if you were born in the year of the Tiger. Traveling in this direction is also not recommended, especially if there is a Tiger or a Tiger with a Monkey in the birth chart.
It is also worth considering the so-called “Tai Sui of the Mourners” - people born in 2010, 2001, 1992, 1983, 1974, 1965, 1950, 1941 (according to the Chinese calendar) are strictly not recommended to disturb Tai Sui and attend funerals. This year, such people are especially vulnerable and susceptible to disease. They are also inattentive, confused and can easily become a victim of deception, an accident or fall into a financial scam.
The Destroyer of the Year, Sui Po , is located opposite, in the northeast 3 . It is also better not to disturb this place with repairs, destruction of the earth, or long-running activators. Peace is desirable. The concern of this sector is more serious than that of Tai Sui and has the potential for serious illness. If the rear of your house is located in the northeast, then renovations throughout the house are contraindicated. It is also not recommended to move into houses with such a rear in 2020. You can sleep or work here if you were not born in the year of the Tiger or Monkey.
Three Sha , San Sha or Three Killers is also a fairly strong unfavorable energy, which fell on the southern sector this year. Three shas can bring troubles, delays (sha of the year, southwest 1), problems in relationships, accidents, illnesses (sha of misfortunes, south 2), financial losses (sha of robbery, southeast 3). Therefore, they are not disturbed by repairs or excavation work. The only opportunity to repair something in the three sha sector is to do it in November or December 2020.
If the rear of your house faces south, you should not undertake renovations throughout the entire house within a year. If the house or apartment is new and you do not live there yet, plan the renovation so as to start construction work in good sectors. Construction workers are at risk when working actively in three sha, and the likelihood of injury increases. It’s also not worth moving into houses with such a rear in 2020.
It is not worth sitting with your back to the Three Shas or sleeping in this sector, especially for those whose annual three shas coincide with their personal ones, according to the year of birth (Monkey, Rat, Dragon) - it is better to turn your face to the enemy in order to be able to control his actions. This is especially true if there is sha of the external environment or activity on this side. If the door of your apartment is in the south, three sha can cause stagnation in business.
You can do short activations in three shas.
In the trisha sector, peace is necessary. The following types of protection against three shas are traditionally used:
· A living plant, with leaves and a trunk - the plant takes the blow and may die, so it must be replaced in a timely manner.
· A vessel with “yin”, calm water. You can place it both inside and outside the house, for example, you can use a trough or a barrel of water if your neighbors decide to dig in your Three Sha sector.
· Three metal qilins facing three sha
Tai Sui, Sui Po, Sha of three killings belong to the category of “earth sha”, which are activated only by the destruction of the earth, walls, and floor. So it’s better just not to disturb this sector.
Yellow 5 , the most malevolent flying star of the year, will settle in the northeast. It can cause serious financial loss and injury. You should take measures to protect yourself from Yellow 5, especially if your bedroom or front door is located in this sector. If you can move to sleep in another room for a year, it’s better to do so. You should not travel in direction "5", especially on long trips.
The influence of the Five can most strongly affect:
· Those who have an entrance door in the northeast, especially if the door to the bedroom is also in the northeast
· people living in the northeast room (bedroom)
· those who have a bed in the northeast of the room
· those who have serious activity or sha on the northeast side
· people with gua 8
boys under 15 years old
· younger sons
Even before you give “treatment” an A, think about how to change your behavior. Five often causes financial problems and bankruptcy, so do not make rash decisions, do not give or take on debt. The proposal seems banal, but few follow it, but in vain.
Traditional remedies for the five:
Avoid repairs and noise throughout the year
· Minimize activity in this sector - it is better not to sleep or work here
· Lack of activators - fountains, mobiles, air conditioning, air washing
· No large spots of red in the interior
· No fire in this sector
· Salt-water-coins product https://www.mingli.ru/blog/post/203
· Bell on the door
Particularly unfavorable months for this sector: February, May, November.
When activating favorable sectors, remember that it is important to follow safety measures and not activate sectors with a yellow five of the year or month!
Noble years. The noble ones improve the sector they fall into if there are unfavorable energies there and also help to activate assistance in solving complex problems, wealth, and career in life. In sectors with nobles, moderate activity is favorable: here you can have a good time, work, you can put a tall plant in a pot. You can also use mobiles, but check whether the location is suitable for such activators.
This year, the Nobles of the Year will take the places in the northwest 3 and west 2.
Tai Yang, Great Yang, Sun is a strong favorable energy that helps from many troubles and neutralizes negative influences. It is especially good for men; it brings support from men. Tai Yang can be used if negative afflictions have been disturbed - three sha, Tai Sui, five. In 2020, Tai Yang coincides with the Noble Year (West 2). In this sector, you can make rearrangements from time to time and turn on the fan.
Tai Yin, Great Yin, Moon - primarily favorable for women and building relationships, strengthening the family. In 2020 it is located in the northwest 3. To activate it, it is also better to use a fan rather than a candle.
The Noble Dragon in 2020 is located in the east 2. Used to eliminate stagnant qi - when business has stalled, debts are not repaid. Activated by a candle or fan.
Happy Noble (Southeast 3) gives a feeling of happiness when activated. Helps in the treatment of depression. It is activated in the same way as the previous noble ones.
Foreign policy
The foreign policy of the Sui dynasty is characterized by numerous wars that the Chinese rulers waged mainly against the states of the Korean Peninsula and the northern tribes, as well as confrontation with the Turkic Khaganate.
Having practically conquered the sparsely populated Liaoning Peninsula, Sui China in 612 opposed the Korean states of Baekje and Goguryeo in alliance with the state of Silla. Two years later, the war ended inconclusively, having significantly depleted the treasury.
The most serious rival of China at that time was the Turkic Khaganate. Lacking a military force sufficient to defeat this nomadic empire or even confidently repel its raids, the Sui Empire most often built its relations with the Kaganate on skillful diplomacy.
Why You Shouldn't Sit Facing Tai Sui
Articles – Feng Shui – Why you can’t sit facing the direction of Tai SuiFirst, let's find out what Tai Sui , aka the Prince of the Year , aka the Grand Duke .
This is the direction corresponding to the Earthly branch of the current year. Each year the sign of one of the 12 animals of the Chinese calendar appears. We know that 2020 was the year of the Rooster, 2018 is the year of the Dog, and 2019 will be the year of the Pig .
Animals or Earthly branches are a very important parameter in Chinese metaphysics. They connect time and direction. That is, the Earthly branch corresponds to a specific month, hour, year or day and, in addition, also occupies a small fifteen-degree sector in space.
Therefore, when the year of this or that animal comes in space, one of the sectors becomes the Tai Sui sector.
Earthly branch of the year
Tai Sui | Years | ||
Sector | Degrees | ||
Dog | SZ1 | 292,6 — 307,5 | 2018 |
亥 Pig | SZ3 | 322,6 — 337,5 | 2019 |
Rat | C2 | 352,6 — 7,5 | 2020 |
丑 Bull | SV1 | 22,6 — 37,5 | 2021 |
寅Tiger | SV3 | 52,6 — 67,5 | 2022 |
卯Rabbit | AT 2 | 82,6 — 97,5 | 2023 |
Dragon | SE1 | 112,6 — 127,5 | 2024 |
巳 Snake | SE3 | 142,6 — 157,5 | 2025 |
午 Horse | Yu2 | 172,6 — 187,5 | 2026 |
Goat | SW1 | 202,6 — 217,5 | 2027 |
申 Monkey | SW3 | 232,6 — 247,5 | 2028 |
Rooster | Z2 | 262,6 — 277,5 | 2029 |
Let's look at the example of 2020. This is the year of the Earth Dog. In the layout of 24 mountains, the Dog occupies the North-West 3 sector. Therefore, in 2018, the Prince of the Year sector is North-West 3 degree direction 292,6 — 307,5.
And the main recommendation for the Prince of the Year, in addition to the fact that this sector should not be disturbed by noisy work, is the prohibition of sitting facing in the direction of Tai Sui. That is, you cannot sit in such a way as to look directly at North-West 3.
What is the reason for this ban?
The fact is that the Prince of the Year is a very powerful energy. For a whole year, one of the Earthly branches becomes as strong as possible, exerting an energetic influence on a person’s personal energy, the practice of Bazi tells us about this. And a sector appears in space from which a flow of strong energy moves.
Imagine you are walking down the street on a very windy day. And some gusts of wind that hit you in the face are so strong that it becomes difficult to breathe. And instinctively, we turn our backs to the beating stream of air, waiting out the gust of wind.
Something similar happens on the energetic level. We just don’t feel it physically. Well, maybe especially sensitive people understand that they feel uncomfortable sitting, looking towards the annual energy of Tai Sui.
Let's continue the analogy with windy weather. You can patiently move towards the gusts of wind, gasping for breath, wiping your watery eyes, inhaling the rising dust and sand. But imagine that you have to go like this for a whole year. The pleasure is doubtful. And the result of such walks can be at least a cold and eye disease.
This is the kind of wind, only invisible, that will hit you in the face if you are located in an apartment, turning in the direction of the Prince of the Year. Therefore, it is not recommended to sit facing in this direction.
Although this is usually described more poetically. It is said that if you look in the direction of the Prince of the Year, then this is considered a challenge to the Master of the Year. You cannot look the Emperor in the face, because he will consider such actions offensive and will punish you. And as a result, this behavior of yours provokes losses, defeats and illnesses.
In fact, no terrible consequences were noticed from the fact that you were facing in the direction of the Prince of the Year. This is more of a preventive measure. In Feng Shui we strive for harmony and do not like excessive amplification of any energy. And it is precisely in this aspect that you should not turn your face to the powerful annual energy. How not to walk against a strong wind. Let it be a fair wind, with which it is easy to move forward.

Decline of the Dynasty
Exorbitant taxes and duties, often inhuman working conditions on the great construction projects of the Empire and military failures in Korea led to the growing discontent of the common people. Uprisings broke out in the provinces of Shandong and Henan, during which the rebels proclaimed their own kingdom. In addition, fermentation began among the aristocracy. In 617, one of Yang Guang's relatives, Li Yuan, carried out a coup in the third largest and most important city in the country - Taiyuan. Soon the rebel nobility, with the help of allied Turkic tribes, occupied the ancient capital of Chang'an. Yang Guang fled south and was killed by his own guards. Li Yuan proclaimed the founding of the Tang Dynasty. The Eastern Turkic Kaganate played a significant role in the overthrow of Sui China.

Tai Sui
(Chinese 太歲, literally: Great Year, also called Anti-Jupiter) is a hypothetical planet in Chinese astrology, moving across the sky in the opposite direction to Jupiter. It got its name because one revolution of Tai-Sui is equal to twelve years, and every year Tai-Sui passes through one of the twelve sectors of the Chinese zodiac. Stars in the sky are also associated with Tai-Sui. This concept was introduced into Chinese astrology because during the period when Jupiter is clearly visible at night and stands high above the horizon, it opposes the Sun and moves backward along the ecliptic.
In astrology and geomancy (Feng Shui), areas of Tai Sui dominance are considered inauspicious and are not recommended to be disturbed.
