Cathedral of the Great Martyr George the Victorious
- a two-story brick church, the largest in the Odintsovo region: a five-domed, six-pillar building in the Russian style with a bell tower.
It was built in the city center on the initiative of the head of the district A.G.
Gladyshev for the 50th anniversary of Odintsovo.
The temple project was developed by the chief architect of the Odintsovo district, V.G. Gankin. The construction was carried out by M.M. Panov. On August 7, 2004, the Odintsovites received distinguished guests: the Governor of the Moscow Region, Boris Vsevolodovich Gromov, and the Presidential Plenipotentiary Representative in the Central Federal District, Georgy Sergeevich Poltavchenko, who came to lay the foundation stone of a new church in honor of the Great Martyr George, which was headed by Metropolitan Yuvenaly.
Many residents of the Odintsovo district took part in its construction. On September 9, 2007, the great consecration and the first liturgy were held, led by Patriarch Alexy II. At the end of the service, Patriarch Alexy II announced that he was giving this temple a special, high status of the Cathedral, that is, one of the central churches of the Moscow region.
During this time, the cathedral became one of the most beloved and significant churches in the area. The lower floor, where the baptismal church is located, was designed and built by the architect Anisimov. Icons
the lower aisle were also written in Anisimov's workshop. On this floor everything is done in Byzantine style from natural white stone. The original structure of the Sunday school (in a semicircle) and baptism for adults was designed by Valentin Grigorievich Gankin.
Iconostasis
The middle floor of the cathedral is designed in the style of Dionysius.
The upper floor is designed in Baroque and Empire styles. The floors were made by craftsmen from India (the stone was also brought from India). The iconostasis on the top floor of the Cathedral was designed and created by craftsmen in Palekh. The stained glass windows
on the third floor windows are the author's work. They are made using a unique restoration method - this is a real alloy, and not painted pictures, as it might seem at first glance.
At the Cathedral there is an Orthodox Sunday school for children and adults, creative clubs are open (choir, folk art group, wool felting group, flute playing group, sewing group), a library, and a video library. In the Church of St. George the Victorious in Odintsovo, meetings are organized every week at the “Orthodox Cinema Club”, and excursions are held monthly.
