Preparation classes for the Sacrament of Baptism

For future godparents, parents, and everyone who wants to be baptized, once a week, on Fridays at 19:00, special classes are held, organized to familiarize themselves with the basics of the Orthodox faith.

In addition to those preparing for Holy Baptism, the classes can be attended by anyone who would like to learn more about the Orthodox faith.
One lesson usually has up to 15 people. The first lesson, dedicated to the basics of the Orthodox faith, examines the Symbol of Faith, the main dogmas of the Orthodox doctrine, familiarization with the Sacraments of the Church, the Liturgy, and briefly covers the history of the Orthodox Church. Before the start of each lesson, a tea party is held, which helps to make the atmosphere more relaxed, as well as to satisfy hunger, because many come straight from work.

The second lesson is devoted to the actual Sacrament of Baptism. The deep meaning of each stage of the Sacrament, its symbolism, the duties of godparents, the choice of name and patron saint, entry into the life of the Church, changes in life after Baptism, prayer rules and many other related issues are discussed in this lesson.

All those present are given brochures about the Sacraments of Confession and Communion, reading the Gospel and studying the Law of God are recommended.

Classes for teachers

Every week on Fridays at 19:00, classes for teachers and educators of educational institutions are held in the premises of the lower church.

The most favorable periods in the history of Russian upbringing and education were when the state, Church, family and school acted in concert in the field of education. The gap in the system of these relations has had an extremely negative impact on the development of our country, the education system and especially upbringing, on the destinies of many Russian people. In our society, there is a criminal indifference to the matter of educating children in the Christian virtues of chastity and moral purity. When raising children, unfortunately, due attention is not paid to the rich experience of traditional centuries-old culture and history.

We invite teachers to attend our classes, the purpose of which is to deepen and expand knowledge in the field of history, cultural studies, and familiarize themselves with the rich experience of Orthodox pedagogy.

To help in the spiritual and moral education of children, methodological recommendations, video and audio materials are offered. Classes for teachers are conducted by Priest Alexey Yakovlev.

We hope that the classes will allow teachers to exchange opinions on how best to solve educational problems aimed at shaping the child’s inner world, realizing the uniqueness of the individual, and preserving the cultural traditions of domestic education.

Prayers for pregnant women and those preparing for parenthood for a successful pregnancy and childbirth.

On the last Saturday of every month at 15:00, special prayer services are held in front of the miraculous Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God.

We pray to the patron saints of marriage, the righteous saints Joachim and Anna, St. right Zechariah and Elizabeth, Peter and Fevronya of Murom, St. healer Panteleimon and Saint Luke (Voino-Yasnesetsky), Venerable Sergius of Radonezh and Saint Nicholas, Bishop of Myra of Lycia, Tikhvin, Feodorovsk, Kazan icons of the Mother of God and the “Helper in Childbirth” icon.

Here you can get acquainted with the texts of the troparia, chants and prayers that are sung during the prayer service for pregnancy and childbirth. And here - with brief descriptions of the lives of those saints to whom we pray during prayer services, and who with their holy prayers appear for us before God.

Prayer services are also missionary in nature, since during pregnancy, realizing the Miracle of the birth of a new life, even unchurched women try to turn to God, the Most Holy Theotokos and the Holy Saints of God for protection and help. During the prayer service, the importance of participation in Church life, the value of family, the Sacraments of Confession and Communion are told, and special brochures about these Sacraments are given out. Special prayers are also read for spouses who do not yet have children. And it is impossible not to note that by the grace of God, even within our parish, during the year of such prayer services, the birth rate has objectively increased, there are cases of pregnancy in infertile couples. On average, up to 40 women (pregnant and wishing to become pregnant) are present at the prayer service; they are usually accompanied by their husband or someone close to them. Entire families often come, with older children, to pray together for a successful addition to the family.

After the prayer service, a special lesson on preparing for childbirth is held for everyone.

Today, modern society is mostly caught up in social computer networks. It is necessary to use this tool of the information society for Gospel preaching. For this purpose, on March 15, 2014, the official page of the Missionary Department was opened on the social network “Vkontakte” (https://vk.com/mission_mda), which makes it possible to quickly exchange information between employees and group members. The group covers the activities of the Missionary Department, and also posts video materials from lectures and seminars, as well as teaching aids and documents for self-training and education of missionaries.

The activities of the missionary department have several areas, each of which is responsible for a specific sector. In connection with this, additional groups appeared:

Conversations in the Missionary Department of the MDA (https://vk.com/besedi_mda). In this group, audio recordings of interpretative conversations on the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments and public conversations held in the Missionary Department are posted.

Social facilities of the Missionary Department of the MDA (https://vk.com/mission_mda1). The group is dedicated to social sites visited by missionaries.

Light to the youths of Posada (https://vk.com/svet_otrokam_posada). A school sector group designed to carry out preaching among students and schoolchildren.

The use of a social network allows you to significantly expand the geography of missionary activities, not limited to Sergiev Posad, Moscow and the region. It also allows you to accumulate existing material and share it, both with those newly admitted to the Moscow Theological Academy, and with all those interested in the work of evangelism

In addition to the Vkontakte network, the Missionary Department has been preaching through the YouTube channel since September 2015 (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDSIL81Q5ZZNXJX8CTPrxVg). The video channel allows you to conduct missionary conversations to a large audience and accumulate video lectures for their subsequent distribution on the Internet.

The missionary department revives the long tradition of Moscow theological schools, where at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries the Brotherhood of St. Sergius and the Pastoral and Educational Brotherhood functioned, engaged in extensive educational and charitable activities.
