Patronal feast of the church
This is September 17, the feast of the image of the Most Pure Virgin “The Burning Bush”. Its name goes back to the Old Testament story about a thorn bush burning with unearthly fire, from the flame of which the Lord Himself turned to the prophet. Moses (Ex. 3:5), sending him to lead His people out of Egypt.
The unburnt bush is considered a kind of symbol of the Most Pure Virgin, who preserved her virginity after the Incarnation and Birth of the Savior, She Whose love embraces and transforms the world. It is not for nothing that the halo around the figure of the Mother of God on this particular icon of Her is special; it is a star with eight rays surrounding the Mother of God. The same is the halo of the Savior on the icon of the Transfiguration.
N.V. Dmitrieva, in her book about the Mother of God images, writes:
“The Burning Bush icon is an image with a truly cosmic sound. It sums up the Orthodox concept of the Mother of God-Church-Sophia in all the beauty of Her timeless and universal significance.”
Isn't this a revolution similar to the change in the soul of the prophet? Moses, is needed by many of our contemporaries who have lost, but are looking for God?

In honor of the icon of the Mother of God, one of the chapels of the Church of St. Nicholas in Otradnoye was consecrated
The history of the icon of the Mother of God “Consolation and Consolation” is connected with the Vatopedi Monastery on Athos. This happened back in 395.
One day, the son of Emperor Theodosius the Great, Arkady, fell from a ship into the sea during a terrible storm. As soon as the ship landed on the shore, everyone tried to find the boy's body. But all searches were in vain.
The history of the icon of the Mother of God “Consolation and Consolation” is connected with the Vatopedi Monastery. A chapel in the church in Otradnoye was consecrated in honor of this icon.
When they were completely desperate, at the last moment their attention was attracted by a strange and unusual bush. When we came closer to him, we saw a boy who was sleeping serenely.
Afterwards he told everyone that the Mother of God saved him. Just before he fell into the sea, he turned to the Mother of God for help.
The emperor helped create a monastery on the site of this unusually strange bush, near which they found Arkady. This monastery was named Vatopedi, which translated from Greek means “bush of the youth.”
807
after this year, the icon “Consolation” received the second name “Consolation”
An image of the Mother of God was placed in the altar of the cathedral church. They gave it the name “Otrada”. But later in 807 the icon received a second name, “Consolation,” when the miraculous icon saved the monastery from robbers who wanted to plunder the Vatopedi Monastery.
After this, the icon began to be called “Consolation and Consolation.” In the Church of St. Nicholas in Otradnoye there is a list of the icon in whose honor one of the chapels was consecrated.

A chapel was built on the territory of the temple complex in honor of the Great Martyr and Healer Panteleimon
The chapel of the Great Martyr and Healer Panteleimon was built on the territory of the complex. The chapel was also consecrated in his honor for a reason. Why was he called a healer?
Panteleimon was born in the city of Nicomedia into the family of a rather noble pagan Eustorgia. His mother was a Christian, her name was Evvula.
Icon of the Healer Panteleimon, in whose honor the chapel was built in Otradnoye
She really wanted to raise her son as a Christian, but she died too early, when the boy was still quite a teenager. Panteleimon's father sent him to a pagan school.
When the boy finished it, he began to study the art of medicine from the famous doctor in Nicodemus.
At that time, the holy martyrs who survived the burning of 2,000 Christians in the Nicomedia Church in 303 secretly lived in Nicodemus. They very often saw the boy who passed by their secret hideout.
One day one of them called Panteleimon and told him about the Christian faith, about God. And after that the boy began to come to the holy martyrs every day.
Then the following incident happened to Panteleimon: when he was walking, he saw a dead child on the street who had been bitten by an echidna. At this time she was still next to the body.
Panteleimon began to pray for the resurrection of the child and for the killing of the echidna. Then he firmly decided for himself that if everything worked out for him, he would become a follower of Christ and accept the Sacrament of Baptism.
Panteleimon, with his prayers, resurrected a dead child and destroyed the devilish beast.
Then a great miracle happened, the child came to life, and the echidna instantly scattered into pieces, right before Panteleimon’s eyes.
After such a miracle, Panteleimon was baptized by Ermolai with the name Panteleimon, which meant all-merciful.
When Panteleimon's father saw how he healed a blind man, he converted to Christianity.
After Panteleimon's father died, he began to help the suffering, the sick, the poor and the poor. He helped and treated everyone who turned to him for help. Soon the rumor about the wonderful doctor spread throughout the city.
One day, evil people reported to the emperor that a certain doctor was healing Christians. The emperor asked Panteleimon to make a sacrifice to the idol, then he confessed himself to be a Christian in front of everyone, healing the paralytic.
The emperor became very angry with the saint and gave him over to terrible torture. Before this, the Lord appeared to Panteleimon and strengthened him before suffering.
First, the martyr was hung on a tree and torn with iron claws, then burned with candles, stretched on a wheel, and also thrown into boiling tin and thrown into the sea with a stone around his neck.
But after all the torture, the martyr remained safe and sound. By order of Emperor Panteleimon, they threw him into the circus to be torn to pieces by wild animals. But the animals only licked the saint’s feet.
At this time, the spectators stood up from the stands and began shouting that he was the Great Christian God. The emperor, seeing this, ordered everyone who shouted these words to cut off their heads, including the saint himself.
The saint was brought to the place of execution, and he began to pray.
The warrior’s sword, with which he was about to cut off the head, became soft as wax and did not inflict any wound on the saint.
After Panteleimon finished the prayer, everyone heard the Voice of God, which called the saint to the Kingdom of Heaven. Hearing this, the soldiers fell at the feet of the saint and began to ask him for forgiveness.
The saint asked the soldiers to carry out the emperor's order, but they did not want to do this. With tears, they said goodbye to the saint and cut off his head, from which milk flowed in place of the blood.
The saint's body was thrown into the fire, but it remained completely undamaged. He was buried along with other Christians.
His holy relics were dispersed throughout the Christian world. Its honest head is located in the Russian Athos Monastery.
Chapel in Otradnoye, consecrated in honor of the Healer Panteleimon
It was in honor of this great martyr, who endured such terrible torment, that a chapel was built in Otradnoye, which is part of the temple complex.
History of construction
Temple of the Icon of the Mother of God “Burning Bush” in Otradnoye
It begins in 2010, when a project appeared to build small churches in areas of the metropolis that either never had them or had irretrievably lost churches over the years of persecution. The program, known as “200 Temples,” evoked different emotions: from the joy of believers - at least that they no longer had to travel several hours to the nearest church - to outright aggression against the “opium of the people” and “seizure of territory.”
Some statistics
By that time, Otradnoye - a relatively young Moscow district, located within the city limits only since the 1960s - was:
- 22 streets
- two metro stations
- population – more than 170,000 inhabitants
For the entire considerable region there was... only one temple and two chapels. That is why a line about a new church in Otradnoye appeared in Program 200. Not everyone was happy with her.
Babylon or Church?
It seems that the local authorities did not show enthusiasm: the site allocated to the newly formed parish, near the metro station, was decided to be transferred to another construction site - a shopping center under the symbolic name “Golden Babylon”. And the community was given an abandoned park. However, the green area was actively visited by some: used syringes of drug addicts and empty alcohol containers were constantly found here. The residents of the park were afraid.
Useful materials
It was here, in a place desecrated by passions, that construction began. She immediately found opponents who feared for the fate of the “resting place”, a cluttered park. In October 2014, when services were held in a temporary wooden church of the Blgv. Prince Vladimir, a rally began near its walls. First rector, Fr. Dimitry Bondarenko says:
“When we learned about the meeting, I naturally turned for help to the administrator of the vicariate, Bishop Tikhon of Podolsk. We began to think together and decided to remember the ancient method of fighting the forces of evil: prayer and fasting. The Bishop blessed: let the meeting be a meeting, and we, the parish and the people who came to support the construction of the temple, will gather in the temple and perform a prayer service with the reading of the akathist to the Mother of God.”
The priest says that some passers-by, after listening to the speakers, came into the service, lit candles, and prayed. And then they asked in bewilderment what the terrible thing was happening: people were praying and not bothering anyone. So the protests gradually faded away. Nowadays, most of the parishioners are residents of this area.
Father Dimitri says:
“When a construction company was erecting a temporary temple, one woman came with a dog and was indignant: “Why are you building it, we need a park here, wow, you grabbed the territory,” etc. I came to the construction site, and she and the dog walked here every day. First we discussed the need for a temple—whether it was needed here. Then she began to talk about her difficulties, I began to advise her on something, they began to say hello, and discussed the dog’s health. Then I look - she is already standing in the temple. Now our parishioner.”
The construction of a capital 36-meter temple designed by architect A. Obolensky lasted from 2015 to 2021.
