Historical events
Temple "Education" in Nekrasovka is a meeting place with God for thinking people who want to improve spiritually and morally. At the turn of the 17th – 18th centuries. in the village of Bedrino, which later became Nekrasovka, there was the Church of St. George the Passion-Bearer. Due to its dilapidation, the wooden structure was dismantled, hoping to build a new building from stone. More than 300 years passed before these plans could be realized.
Chronicle of the birth of a new Christian complex:
- January 2001 - the Orthodox community of the capital's microdistrict was allocated an old building adapted for the Church of St. Sergius of Radonezh.
- Spring 2002 - the blessing of Patriarch Alexy II was received for the construction of a new church and the creation of an Orthodox parish.
- Summer 2010 - construction began, which a year later will be supported by a special program for the construction of Orthodox places of worship in Moscow.
- 2013 - on the day of the Holy Trinity, parishioners performed a collective prayer at the erected stone walls of the future church.
- December 2014 – the domes of the church building were crowned with temple crosses.
- December 2015 – the lower temple altar was consecrated.
- Spring 2021 - the main upper altar is consecrated.
- January 21, 2021 - The Great Patriarchal consecration of the entire “Education” church took place.

The area around the church is fenced and landscaped, landscaping has been done, and a children's playground has appeared.
Patronal feast day in the Church of the Icon of the Mother of God “Education”
On March 18, the Orthodox world will celebrate the day of special veneration of the “Education” icon of the Mother of God. This coming Saturday and Sunday, March 19, festive services will take place in the capital's Nekrasovka microdistrict - in the church that received its “name” in honor of this miraculous icon. This church is one of the “youngest” in the capital, but it is already actively visited not only by Muscovites, but also by Lyubertsy residents - residents of the northern part of the city.
There are only a few churches dedicated to the “Education” icon.
This icon is highly revered by believers, especially those who fervently pray in front of it for their children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren, for their mental and physical health, regardless of how old such “children” are.
On the icon “Nursing” of Byzantine writing, the Mother of God is depicted with the Eternal Child sitting on Her left hand. The right hand of Christ is stretched upward to the face of the Most Pure Virgin. Until 1917, this holy image was in the Kazan Cathedral on the capital's Red Square, but after its destruction it was lost. Now there is a copy of the miraculous icon there, which today is famous for its miracles.
The snow-white cathedral in the late Byzantine style is one of the first buildings you see when entering Nekrasovka, on 1st Volskaya Street. According to the recollections of old-timers of the village of Bedrino, until 1962 it was part of the Ukhtomsky (since 1959 Lyubertsy) district of the Moscow region, and then included in the capital village of Nekrasovka, in this village since the 18th century there was a functioning wooden church of St. George the Passion-Bearer, years later due to dilapidation dismantled by parishioners in the hope of its revival in stone. In the early 2000s, residents of the village of Nekrasovka turned to the rector of the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Kosin, Archpriest Mikhail Farkovets, with a request to help them build a church. For two years, services in Nekrasovka were performed by the clergy of the Kosinsky churches, and in October 2002, the rector of the future church, Archpriest Alexey Pshenichnikov, was appointed here. A prayer service for the beginning of construction of the temple was held on August 28, 2010. And on Lazarus Saturday, April 23, 2016, the head of the South-Eastern Vicariate, Bishop Savva of the Resurrection, consecrated the main chapel of the new church and celebrated the first Divine Liturgy there. Bishop Savva presented Bishop's Certificates to the author of the project, Honored Architect of Russia, Chairman of the Board of the Guild of Temple Builders Andrei Anisimov, the builders and “beautifiers” of this church.
The Temple of the Education Icon was built in the late Byzantine style, like a basilica. Basilica translated from Greek means “house of the basileus, royal house.” This is a type of rectangular building that consists of an odd number (1, 3 or 5) of naves (rooms) of different heights. In a multi-nave basilica (like the new temple), the naves are divided by longitudinal rows of columns or pillars, with independent coverings.
The church was built using funds from investors and donations from parishioners. To raise funds, a Charitable Fund to support the construction of churches in Moscow was created.
The new temple consists of two churches - upper and lower. The main altar is in honor of the “Education” icon of the Mother of God; two side ones, located on the second floor, in honor of St. Sergius of Radonezh and St. Stylian, a Greek saint, patron of children. The church on the ground floor is dedicated to the Nativity of Christ. It is planned to cover the vaults and dome of the church with colored mosaics.
In the new church, in front of the copy of the miraculous image of the “Education” icon of the Mother of God, a solemn prayer service for the patronal feast will be held. Schedule of festive services in the church: March 18 - from 17.00, March 19 - Early Divine Liturgy at 6.40, Late Liturgy at 9.40.

Architecture and appearance
The Temple “Education” (Church of the Icon of the Mother of God “Education”) in Nekrasovka was built under the leadership of a world-class specialist in the field of Orthodox church architecture, Andrei Albertovich Anisimov.
He managed to organically combine the traditions of Russian church architecture and later motifs of Byzantine art, to create invisible threads of connection with Mount Athos, famous for the thousand-year presence of Russian monasticism on it.
The majestic snow-white temple with several choir mezzanines, a ground floor and 5 domes next to a modern 22-story residential building looks amazing. It seems that this is a real ancient religious building, whose age is calculated in centuries.
The main church dome is crowned with an exact copy of a stone cross with a sapphire ball in the center, installed by Russian believers on Mount Athos more than 1,130 years ago. The temple contains a stone and an icon from the Athos monastery.
The author of the project found original architectural solutions, investing them with sacred meaning, for which he successfully used traditional temple symbols. By creating this religious building, he wanted to show what the messengers of Prince Vladimir saw when they arrived in Byzantium.
The first mentions of Nekrasovka were found in a scribe book at the beginning of the 17th century
The very first mentions of Nekrasovka, and then it was called Bedrino, were found in a scribe book at the beginning of the 17th century. Despite the already great age of the village, it so happened that for three whole centuries there was a break in church life here.
Archival documents from the 17th and 18th centuries indicated a dilapidated wooden church in the name of St. George the Passion-Bearer. It stood completely motionless, no services were held in it.
300 years
had to wait for the revival of the temple in Nekrasovka
But later it was dismantled to be revived in stone. Unfortunately, we had to wait almost 300 years.
In 2000, very good news spread around the village. They were going to form an Orthodox community in the village.
In 2001, on the eve of the Nativity of Christ, a special room was provided for the Divine Liturgy, which had previously been used as a warehouse. Here a temple was opened in honor of St. Sergius of Radonezh, who became assigned to the parish of the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Kosino.
His Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus' Alexy II gave a blessing for the construction of a temple in honor of the Icon of the Mother of God “Education”
A year later, on March 19, His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Hands gave his blessing to the construction of a new church in honor of the “Education” Icon of the Mother of God in Nekrasovka.
Interior decoration
The interior walls of the temple are decorated using the ancient tradition of adding wax to paints, which made it possible to obtain original, unique images. The domes and vaults are decorated with colored mosaics and carved elements made of white stone.
Here are old icons purchased by parishioners and images created by modern icon painters.
Lower Temple
According to the Byzantine tradition, in the lower church in honor of the Nativity of Christ (ground floor) there are baptismal fonts for adults and children, utility rooms for the convenience of believers, as well as a sacristy and a church shop.
Upper Temple
Named in honor of the “Nursing” icon of the Mother of God, the upper church has an unusual mosaic iconostasis with a unique glass cross. This recreates the atmosphere of the ancient monasteries of Greece - the cradle of ancient Christian culture.
All chapels are made of white stone. Seats for the church choir are located on the mezzanine. The upper church also houses a sacristy and a library.
Shrines
The “Education” Church in Nekrasovka is named after the icon of the same name, which is considered miraculous and occupies a special place among other images of the Virgin Mary. It is likely that it appeared in Christian Rus' along with the first icons that came from Byzantium. The original of the shrine, located in the Kazan Cathedral of the capital, was irretrievably lost after the events of 1917.
Today there is an exact master copy of it, and several old copies have been preserved in various churches around the country. From one of them the modern icon of the Mother of God holding the infant Christ was painted for the new Moscow church. Before her, parents pray for the well-being of their children, asking for help and advice from the Most Holy Theotokos, who raised the son of God.
Interesting facts and legends
There are interesting facts associated with the new object of Christian cult:
- The buildings in this microdistrict contain more than 3,000 apartments, home to about 8,000 people. Before the start of construction, parish activists surveyed residents of 400 apartments about their attitude to the future appearance of an Orthodox church near their homes. The initiative was supported by 100% of the population surveyed.
- When registering a new church complex, the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation refused to retain the name of the church already existing at this address.
- The parishioners decided to name the newly created church in honor of the icon of the Mother of God “Education”, which emphasizes one of its main functions - the transmission of spiritual Orthodox values to the younger generation.
- Believers believe that only thanks to their diligent prayers and requests addressed to God in front of the “Education” icon on the patronal feast day, a miracle was performed: a plot of land was allocated for the construction of an Orthodox facility (the problem was not resolved for several years).
- The bulk of the funds for the construction of the Christian temple came from donations. Bricks with the names of benefactors are laid into its walls.
- The diameter of the central dome of the church building is equal to 1 millionth of the diameter of the Earth, and the main prayer hall is a miniature model of the universe.
- Two regular geometric figures - the square shape of the building and the round central dome in its center - in the language of church architecture are a symbol of peace and harmony.
Russian Orthodox ChurchFinancial and economic management
On April 23, the minor consecration of the main chapel of the new church was performed by the head of the South-Eastern Vicariate, Bishop Savva of the Resurrection. Then the bishop celebrated the first Divine Liturgy. His Eminence was co-served by the dean of the churches of the Blachernae district, the rector of the Church of the Icon of the Mother of God “Quench My Sorrows” in Maryino, Archpriest Anatoly Rodionov, the rector of the Church of the Icon of the Mother of God “Education”, Archpriest Alexy Pshenichnikov, and the clergy of the parish.
At the end of the service, Bishop Savva addressed the clergy and parishioners with an archpastoral word and presented Bishop's letters to the builders and beautifiers of this temple. The warmest words of gratitude were expressed to the management and team of AVENUE MANAGEMENT CJSC, under whose care the shrine was erected. This company acted as both a benefactor and the general contractor for the construction of the temple.
Archpriest Alexy Pshenichnikov thanked the bishop for the joy of joint prayer and presented the vicar with a wooden carved icon of the Mother of God “Education”.
Let us remind you that the Church of the Icon of the Mother of God “Education” in Nekrasovka was built as part of the Program for the construction of Orthodox churches in Moscow. The lower chapel of the church in honor of the Nativity of Christ was consecrated on December 25, 2015 by the dean of the churches of the Blachernae district, Archpriest Anatoly Rodionov.
In the future, the community plans to create a parochial school with full boarding, workshops, a blacksmith shop and organize a sisterhood at the 10th city hospital. “We conceive of parish life not as contact with the church on certain days and hours, but as a life that makes it possible to acquire an Orthodox worldview and embraces all creative spheres of human existence,” says the official website of the church, the name of which reflects its main purpose - to give attention to the church education of youth.

Parish history
The Church of the Icon of the Mother of God “Education” was built in the village of Nekrasovka in the South-Eastern district of the capital.
The beginning of the new millennium was marked for this remote area of Moscow with the opening of a church in honor of St. Sergius of Radonezh. The temple was attached to the parish of the Church of the Assumption of the Mother of God in Kosino. The premises, previously used as a warehouse, were transferred to the community by Galina Germanovna Gurova on the eve of Christmas 2001. Over the course of several days, through the efforts of the rector and the community of the Kosino churches, the building was adapted for worship.
Previously, the village of Nekrasovka had never had its own church, so the good news about the formation of an Orthodox parish quickly spread throughout the village. On Christmas Eve 2001, the first service was held. On the day of the holiday itself, January 7, there is the first Divine Liturgy, which was led by Archpriest Mikhail Farkovets in concelebration with the clergy of the Kosinsky churches. Over the next two years, services in the temple were performed regularly by the clergy of the Kosinsky churches.
The parish gradually grew and developed, and soon, in connection with plans for the construction of a new, permanent temple complex, the need arose to organize an independent parish. Meeting the wishes of the parishioners of the village of Nekrasovka, on October 11, 2002, His Holiness Patriarch Alexy of Moscow and All Rus' appointed Priest Alexy Pshenichnikov, cleric of the Kosinsky churches, as rector of the Church of St. Sergius of Radonezh.

Initially, the name of the new temple was intended to be the same as that of the temporary one. However, the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation refused to register two churches with the same names at the same address. Then I remembered the words of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus', spoken at a diocesan meeting, about the need to pay more attention to the church education of youth. Education... Education... But who can give a better example of education, if not the Mother of God Herself? And it was decided to dedicate the future temple to the miraculous icon of the Mother of God “Education”.
Information about this icon is sparse. It is known that her celebration is set on March 18 according to the new style. The icon depicts the Mother of God with the Eternal Child sitting on Her left hand. The right hand of the Infant Christ is stretched upward to the face of the Most Pure Virgin. This holy icon became famous throughout Russia for its miracles. Before the revolution, the original icon was in the Kazan Cathedral on Red Square, but after its destruction it was lost. The name of the icon speaks for itself. In front of her, parents pray for their children, asking the Most Holy Theotokos for help in their upbringing. Also, a short prayer to this image has survived to this day: “I entrust my child entirely to my Lord Jesus Christ and to Your, Most Pure One, heavenly protection.”

The church in Nekrasovka houses an unusual copy of this icon, made by a modern icon painter. A small ordinary miracle happened. After the patronal feast and fervent prayer before the image, the issue of allocating a plot of land for a new temple, which had previously seemed insoluble, was fundamentally resolved. And today, thanks to the Program for the Construction of Orthodox Complexes in Moscow, the deepest hopes of believers are literally coming true before our eyes.
