Few places in the Moscow region are as famous as Peredelkino, which has centuries-old ties to the spiritual culture, historical events and outstanding personalities of Russia. Peredelkino is located on the territory of the ancient village of Spasskoye-Lukino, where architectural and cultural monuments of great national significance have been preserved. Among them, the Church of the Transfiguration should be especially highlighted.
Saint Philip, Metropolitan of Moscow
Adjacent to this church is a garden and park ensemble with a surviving part of an ancient house and an obelisk dedicated to famous personalities from the ancient family of boyars, the Kolychevs, to which St. Philip, the primate of the Russian Orthodox Church in the 16th century, belonged. Saint Philip has always been one of the most beloved saints in our fatherland, and his descendants, the Kolychevs, made their estate and church in Peredelkino a place of special veneration for this saint of God.
The government of the country transferred the former Kolychev estate to the Moscow Patriarchate for arranging the residence of the Patriarchs of Moscow and All Rus'. Thanks to this significant event, Peredelkino was destined to become the largest center of Orthodox heritage in Russia.
In the second half of the 17th century, the area near the Transfiguration Church was settled by peasants, and it received the name Peredelka. The center of the ancient noble estate was the village of Lukino on the Setun River.

The first information about the temple dates back to 1646, but at the end of the 17th century, documents already mentioned two wooden churches in the village of Lukino: the first - in the name of the Transfiguration of the Lord, the second - John the Baptist with the chapel of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. In the village of Lukino, as was usually the case in a large estate, in addition to the owner's house with numerous courtyard buildings and a garden, there were horse and cattle yards and other outbuildings.
The village of Peredelka at that time belonged to the village of Izmalkovo, which since 1707 became an independent estate next to the village of Lukino.

The parish wooden single-altar church in the name of the Transfiguration of the Savior had an attached stone church, erected in the 1760s in an estate near the village of Izmalkovo, consecrated in the name of St. Demetrius of Rostov.
At the end of the 18th century, the village of Lukino became part of the Zvenigorod district of the Moscow province, established by decree of Empress Catherine II.
In 1812, French troops that captured Moscow set fire and devastated many villages near Moscow. The village of Lukino did not escape devastation: the manor house and more than half of the peasant households burned down here (out of 31, 21 households were burned).

The neighboring villages of Izmalkovo, Fedosino and Orlovo suffered the same fate. The building of the Transfiguration Church was not damaged. Some of the church property was stolen by enemy looters, but the most valuable was preserved thanks to the rector of the church, priest John Yakovlev, who buried it in the ground.
The construction of new churches in the Zvenigorod estates - the villages of Lukino and Akulovo - dates back to the time after the Patriotic War. The sanctuary for the construction of a three-altar stone church in the village of Lukino was issued in 1815 by the governor of the Moscow diocese, Bishop Augustin (Vinogradsky) of Dmitrov.
In 1816, the chapels of the church were consecrated in the name of the holy apostles Peter and Paul and the holy great martyr Barbara. In 1819, the vicar of the Moscow diocese, Bishop Lavrenty (Bakshevsky) of Dmitrov, with the blessing of Metropolitan Seraphim (Glagolevsky) of Moscow and Kolomna, consecrated the main altar of the Transfiguration Church.
The archive contains a description of the temple dated 1821. It says: “The church is a stone building, covered with iron and painted, the dome on it is upholstered in tin with gilded stars, and there is a stone bell tower. There are 5 bells on the bell tower, the church is surrounded by a stone fence, the meal is separated from the real church by a glass arch.”
According to its architectural characteristics, the Transfiguration Church in Lukino, as well as the churches near Moscow in the villages of Cherkizovo on Skhodnya, Bolychevo, Karacharovo, Porechye, Pokrovskoye, Akulovo, belongs to the monuments of mature classicism.
Chapel of the Holy Great Martyr Barbara
In 1853, the estate in the village of Spassky-Lukino passed to Baron Mikhail Lvovich Bode (1824-1888), whose name is associated with the new appearance of Peredelkino and the Transfiguration Church.
Chapel of the Holy Chief Apostles Peter and Paul
In the 19th century, the Kolychev family died out in the male line, and M.L.’s mother. Bode - N.F. Kolycheva was the last representative of this, one of the most famous and ancient families of our fatherland. M.L. Bode, with the highest permission, adopted the surname and coat of arms of the Kolychevs and began to be called Baron Bode-Kolychev. At the expense of the Bode family, a stone church in the “Russian style” in the name of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built near Moscow in the Podolsk estate “Meshcherskoe”, as well as a separate stone chapel, with a crypt, where the deceased parents of Mikhail Lvovich L.K. Bode and N.F. Bode, née Kolycheva. These remains in 1867, with the permission of Metropolitan of Moscow and Kolomna Philaret (Drozdov), were transferred to the village of Lukino and placed in a newly built chapel-crypt, near the church.
Mikhail Lvovich Bode developed an interest in ancient Russian culture from childhood. His father Lev Karlovich, by order of the Emperor, supervised restoration and construction work in the Kremlin. Mikhail Bode's childhood and youth impressions were strengthened in adulthood, especially under the influence of the home teacher of the famous Russian philologist and iconologist F.I. Buslaeva.
Saint Philip, Metropolitan of Moscow
Love for his native antiquity, history and culture was reflected in Mikhail Lvovich’s entire way of life and manifested itself in his idea of creating a manor and park ensemble in the “Russian style” in Peredelkino, as a monument to the history of the boyar family of the Kolychevs.
M.L. Bode-Kolychev especially revered the outstanding hierarch of the Russian Church, Metropolitan Philip (Theodore Ivanovich Kolychev, 1507-1569), canonized in 1652.
Saint Philip, Metropolitan of Moscow and All Rus', was the primate of the Russian Orthodox Church during the reign of Ivan the Terrible. He belonged to the Kolychev family - one of the most ancient and noble boyar families of the Moscow state. In 1537, the young boyar secretly left Moscow, went to the Solovetsky Monastery and, without revealing his origin, entered the novices. For his righteous, godly life, in 1548 the monk Philip was appointed abbot of the monastery. The strict ascetic and ascetic Abbot Philip acquired not only enormous spiritual authority, but also became an exemplary owner. Under him, a new main stone cathedral was erected and consecrated in honor of the Transfiguration of the Lord, and also, instead of the wooden Assumption Cathedral, a stone one was built. He made amazing transformations on the islands and Pomeranian estates of this famous monastery. In the harsh northern region, on the rocky soil of the island, under Abbot Philip, vegetables and garden trees that had never been seen before were grown. He built a network of canals between the numerous lakes of the island, installed mills on them, and also built many new structures, and significantly improved the old ones.
Gradually, the activities of the Solovetsky abbot gained universal fame, and in July 1566, Tsar Ivan the Terrible, together with the consecrated cathedral, began to “force” Philip to accept the metropolitan rank. The abbot agreed to become the primate of the Russian Orthodox Church only on the condition that he retained the right to protest against all immoral phenomena that were contrary to Christian laws, such as massacres by guardsmen.
Chapel of St. Philip
The first year of Philip's priesthood passed quite favorably. The tsar calmed down, and the rampages of the guardsmen stopped, but already in 1567 the executions of innocent people resumed: the capital was drenched in blood. The atrocities of the guardsmen and the cruelty of the autocrat terrorized all of Moscow. The saint began his intercessions for the disgraced with private conversations with John IV, but their meeting did not bring results.

Then the Metropolitan decided to publicly denounce the Tsar.
On March 22, 1568, in the Assumption Cathedral of the Kremlin, Philip addressed Ivan the Terrible with a speech in which he reminded him of the duty of a Christian, of responsibility before the judgment of God for bloodshed and lawlessness. Another time, when the tsar came to a service at the Assumption Cathedral, the metropolitan refused to bless him and again began to denounce the sovereign. These actions aroused the rage of the formidable autocrat, and he decided to get rid of the saint. On November 8, 1568, during the liturgy, guardsmen appeared at the Assumption Cathedral, took off Metropolitan Philip’s bishop’s vestments and dressed him in simple monastic clothes.

The saint was exiled to the Tver Otroch Monastery, and a year later the wicked king ordered his death. He sent guardsman Malyuta Skuratov, and he strangled the saint during prayer. In 1591, the relics of the martyr Philip were transported from the Otroch monastery to Solovki, and in 1652, during the reign of Alexei Mikhailovich, they were solemnly transferred to Moscow and placed in the Assumption Cathedral of the Kremlin.
In memory of this significant event, Baron M.L. Bode-Kolychev, in his Lukino estate, built a chapel from large cobblestones, specially delivered from Solovki, and installed a memorial cross in it, an exact copy of the cross that stood at the meeting place of the saint’s relics at the Cross Outpost by Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich. The chapel was painted with scenes from the life of St. Philip, and it contained a copy of the saint’s favorite icon, the Baked Mother of God, and a stone from the Metropolitan’s Solovetsky grave.

Main altar of the temple
In the estate behind the “boyar gate” M.A. Bode-Kolychev erected an obelisk on which the names of his famous ancestors, who gave their lives for the Russian land, are written in gold letters. For many years, Mikhail Lvovich carefully collected archival sources, material objects, relics on the history of the Kolychev boyar family, which later became part of the unique family museum-archive depository, the building of which was built specifically in the palace-memorial ensemble.
In 1869, to the estate of M.L. Bode-Kolychev, who became the city master of the imperial palace, built a new carriage road. With the construction of new estate buildings in 1860-1870, the need arose to rebuild the Spassky Church. The special veneration of St. Philip, Metropolitan of Moscow, was expressed in the construction of the northern aisle, the design of which dates back to 1883. Another chapel, built at the same time as Filippov’s, was consecrated in the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. Thus, the Transfiguration Church became five-altar (according to Metrics in 1887). The Filippovsky chapel with a gallery-porch was crowned with a three-domed structure.
In the 80s of the 19th century, two porches were added to the temple in the style of Russian architecture of the 17th century, new ones were built and old domes on the church and side chapels were remade, two of which received the twisted shapes of the domes of the Cathedral of the Intercession on the Moat (St. Basil's). The shape of the dome of the high four-tier bell tower also changed. On the south side of the church a chapel was built, with the revered Iveron Icon of the Mother of God. The facades of the temple were richly decorated with brick, white stone and ceramic (tile) details. Particularly interesting are the tiles, well preserved to this day, with relief images of a cross and birds. Outside, picturesque images of holy saints were placed in icon cases, and the walls and vaults inside the temple were newly painted.
Central iconostasis
The central iconostasis was made of oak and had five tiers. It was decorated with icons of old writing and ancient royal doors with magnificent icons painted back in the 17th century. It is impossible not to note the role played in the creation of the church ensemble in the Kolychev estate by the famous artist-archaeologist, recognized expert on ancient Rus', one of the founders of the national movement in Russian art F.G. The main wooden two-story manor house of the Bode-Kolychevs was connected by a special stone two-story gallery with the house church of St. Philip, built in the 80s over the crypt-tomb of the Bode-Kolychev family, and a wooden gallery led from the Philippovskaya church to the parish Church of the Transfiguration.
M.L. Bode-Kolychev died in Moscow in March 1888, and was buried in the family tomb. The estate passed into the possession of his wife, Baroness Alexandra Ivanovna Boda-Kolycheva, née Chertkova, and then to their daughter Countess Natalya Mikhailovna Sollogub, née Boda-Kolycheva.
Necropolis under the shadow of the temple
After the death of the remarkable temple builder M.L. Bode-Kolychev, clergy begin to experience difficulties in maintaining the temple. Therefore, in 1903, the clergy of the church, with the permission of the Moscow Spiritual Consistory, began to lease church land. The clear entered into two lease agreements for 12 years with Mr. F.I. Belmer and tradesman E.I. Smirnov. At the same time, the tenants pledged “not to open any taverns or drinking establishments” on church land. In the second half of the 19th century, according to the Land Survey Office, the Transfiguration Church had more than 26 acres of arable and hay land.
During the storm of revolutionary events and civil war, the estate in the village of Lukino, like many other noble estates, suffered greatly: the main two-story house of the estate burned down, the home museum of the Kolychev family with a unique collection of historical relics was practically destroyed. The same fate befell the Kolychev family archive under Soviet rule. Most of the art objects were taken out and distributed to various state repositories, thereby violating the integrity of the Bode-Kolychev collection. Much of the nationalized estate was stolen or destroyed, and the territory of the estate was divided for plowing and development, including part of the historical park. The Kolychevs' house housed a children's colony in the Khamovnichesky district of Moscow. The Church of St. Philip, as a house church, was closed by decree of January 1918.
The Church of the Transfiguration remained an active parish church on the territory of the Kozlovskaya volost, later the Kuntsevo district of the Moscow region. In the 20s, when a boarding school for old Bolsheviks was created in Peredelkino, there was a danger of closing the Transfiguration Church, which was decided by the Kuntsevo district executive committee, but the temple was never closed. Only 10 years, until 1949, services in the church were not performed regularly. Fortunately, the temple was not looted over the years. During the years of hard times, the Transfiguration Church remained one of the few operating in the Moscow region. The splendor of the church, the statutory service and the clergy-monks of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra attracted many parishioners to this temple both from the surrounding villages and from Moscow.
The Transfiguration Church was visited by prominent representatives of Russian culture, many of whom lived in dachas in the writers' village "Peredelkino". Impressed by the splendor and beauty of the Transfiguration Church in Peredelkino, a wonderful series of poems by B.L. was written. Pasternak, included in the novel “Doctor Zhivago”, for which the author received the Nobel Prize.
Chapel in honor of the Iveron Icon of the Mother of God
A new important stage in the history of the Transfiguration Church began in 1952. On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of His Holiness Patriarch Alexy I (Simansky) of Moscow and All Rus', the government provided the Moscow Patriarchate with a residence on the territory of the former Kolychev estate with a surviving building called “Boyar Gate” and adjacent buildings. On the territory of the residence in the park, the Kolychev obelisk has also been preserved.
Obelisk of the Kolychevs in front of the residence of His Holiness the Patriarch
Patriarch Alexy I fell in love with Peredelkino very much. For almost 20 years he constantly lived and worked in this country residence and died here in 1971 at the age of 93. Under Patriarch Alexy I, the Boyar Gate building was significantly expanded, and a cemetery was built in front of the Transfiguration Church, where Metropolitan of Kirovograd and Nikolaev Nestor Anisimov (11/09/1884 - 11/04/1962), Metropolitan of Krutitsky and Kolomna Pitirim Sviridov were buried (12/21/1887 - 08/10/1963), Protopresbyter Nikolai Kolchitsky (1890 - 1961) and a number of other famous clergy and figures of the Orthodox Church.
Most recently, in November 2001, L.K. was buried in the graveyard in front of the temple. Kolchitskaya. Since the time of Khrushchev’s persecution of the church, she has been an employee of the office of the Patriarchate. Her funeral service in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior was performed by His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II, and the litany at the grave was performed by the rector of the Patriarchal Metochion, Archimandrite Vladimir Zorin. Funeral service for L.K. Kolchitskaya himself, the primate of the Russian Orthodox Church, became clear evidence of the touching care and respect of Patriarch Alexy II for the common man, who, with his selfless, ascetic labor, righteously and devotedly served the Church throughout his life.
A hundred meters from the temple there is a village cemetery in Peredelkinskoye, where world famous writers B.L. are buried. Pasternak, K.I. Chukovsky, A.A. Tarkovsky and many other cultural figures. In the writers' village "Peredelkino", founded by A.M. Gorky, literary memorial museums of B.L. are open to visitors. Pasternak and K.I. Chukovsky.
But the main attraction of Peredelkino has always been and remains the Transfiguration Church and, of course, the residence of His Holiness the Patriarch.
From 1952 to 1975, the Church of the Transfiguration in Peredelkino was the metochion of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra. On April 17, 1975, the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church decided to transfer the Transfiguration Church to the Mount Athos Russian Monastery of the Holy Great Martyr Panteleimon. Thus, the temple in Peredelkino became an island of this holy monastery in Russia. In the Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior, the Iveron Icon of the Mother of God from Athos is especially revered. The miraculous image of the Iveron Icon of the Mother of God was brought from the Holy Mount Athos from the Russian St. Panteleimon Monastery in 1975. The icon is located in the chapel attached to the temple building on the south side.
In January 1991, the Athonite metochion was transferred to the center of Moscow to the Church of the Great Martyr Nikita on Shvivaya Gorka, and the Church of the Transfiguration in Peredelkino received the status of a Patriarchal metochion.
After the election of Alexy II as Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus' in May 1990, very important changes took place in the Transfiguration Church in Peredelkino, as in the entire Russian Orthodox Church.
It was decided to build a large complex of buildings of the Russian Orthodox Church near the temple in Peredelkino: a large Scientific and Theological Center, a public museum of the Russian Orthodox Church, and a number of other buildings. To implement this project, it was necessary to create a Master Plan and concept for the development of the territory adjacent to the temple, free plots of land from village residential and outbuildings, formalize land allotments and carry out many other complex organizational works. The situation was also extremely complicated by the fact that commercial structures had already begun construction of several panel block residential buildings and a cottage community around the temple. For their construction, many reinforced concrete structures were imported. Such a utilitarian use of a historical and cultural protected area would lead to the inevitable loss of the unique appearance of Peredelkino with its wonderful garden and park landscape, turning this pearl of the Moscow region into an ordinary microdistrict of mass cheap development.
His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II entrusted the care of the revival and preservation of the historical, cultural and spiritual values of the territory adjacent to the church in Peredelkino to the rector of the Transfiguration Church, Archimandrite Vladimir Zorin and A.V. Bugaevsky. As a result of many years of work supported by the Moscow Government and its mayor Yu.M. Luzhkov, as well as the Governor of the Moscow Region B.V. Gromov, the most complex tasks of preserving and developing a particularly valuable memorial area in Peredelkino were gradually solved. The land plot of the Moscow Patriarchate near the Transfiguration Church increased from 2.3 to 30 hectares, approximately to the size that the parish had before the revolution. The Moscow government resettled more than 600 people from the improvement area around the courtyard, while all families received modern comfortable apartments instead of housing in dilapidated buildings that were in disrepair. In accordance with the new General Plan of the territory, modern city communications are being laid in Peredelkino, not only for the buildings of the Patriarchate, but also for the remaining residents of the village, as well as the Gerontological Center and the Cardiological Sanatorium, instead of the old emergency ones.
The government of the Moscow region built a new bridge across the Setun River and an excellent road from the Minsk Highway to the Patriarchal Compound, meeting the most modern requirements. The territory of the ancient estate and park around the temple was brought into exemplary order by the management of the joint economy of the residence of the Patriarch and the church of T.D. Mikhailova. Thanks to her tireless care, the appearance of the temple regained its former splendor. Its iron roof was replaced with copper, all twelve domes were gilded, the outer walls of the church were painted, dilapidated doors and windows were replaced with oak ones, and the icon shop was impressively decorated. Restoration inside the temple has begun and is constantly underway.
More recently, from 1998 to 2000, the frescoes of the Filippovsky chapel, which had been badly damaged by time, were repainted, and a new iconostasis was installed in it. All these works were performed by the artist V.A. Grekhov at the expense of sponsorship funds from entrepreneur S.A. Mikhailov, under the care of the rector of the temple, Archimandrite Vladimir Zorin.
Thanks to the financial assistance of the Ministry of Railways and Gazprom, the construction of a complex of buildings of the Russian Orthodox Church is underway. Under the supervision of Abbot Jerome (Chernyshev), the construction of a large center of Orthodox heritage and a 2-story monastic building is being completed; a high monastery wall with towers and other special structures has been erected around these buildings.
The surviving part of the Boyar Gate building
In the future, it is planned to build a Scientific and Theological Center, a baptismal church, a parochial school, a chapel and other services.
Thus, during the years of the Patriarchate of His Holiness Alexy II and on the initiative of this outstanding primate of the Russian Orthodox Church, a new glorious chapter began in the history of Peredelkino. After the completion of the complex of unique structures, Peredelkino will become the largest scientific, theological, museum and spiritual center of our fatherland. Views (2083)

Naivalt, presented His Holiness with a model of the newly consecrated temple. His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus' addressed those gathered with the First Hierarchical word: “Your Eminences and Graces! Your Reverence, Father Vladimir! Dear fathers, brothers and sisters!
I greet you all and cordially congratulate you on the feast of all saints who have shone in the land of Russia, and on the memory of the holy noble prince Igor of Chernigov, which, with my blessing, was moved from June 18 to June 17, to today, in connection with the consecration of a wondrous temple on the territory of the Patriarchal courtyard in Peredelkino, a temple that represents the beauty of the Russian national cultural and temple-building tradition.
This is a big event - first of all, because the city of Moscow has grown so much that even the remote outskirts, towns, villages that lay outside Moscow have today become part of the capital, just like the place where we are located. In the city of Moscow, as you know, there are not enough churches of God. It is impossible to conduct pastoral work when there are thirty, forty, and sometimes even one hundred thousand inhabitants, of which 80% are baptized people who belong to the Church - and for them there is only one temple and several priests.
Strictly speaking, this is what the mission of the Church in big cities today rests on. But the enemy is not asleep, the enemy is right there and, using the media, is trying to convince the people that the Church, which has received such freedoms and such riches (it would be good to count these “riches”!), is incapable of reducing the number of abortions and divorces, nor reduce crime. It is interesting to draw a simple parallel: what if for every 100,000 soldiers there was one, as they used to say, political instructor, that is, the person responsible for the education of military personnel? Was it possible to ask him for the indicators that are presented to the Church today by unfriendly external observers?
Our main problem is that there is a catastrophic lack of churches and parishes - those very parishes that would be centers of prayer and at the same time educational, cultural, and social activities; where work would be carried out with young people and with older people; parishes around which residents of the neighborhood would unite. After all, strictly speaking, all church life in Russia was built on this principle - the parish was the center of the village; parishes were the centers of small communities living in urban areas. And the people knew each other, and the priest knew his parishioners, and there was constant spiritual contact. People came to the priest with problems, with questions, with concerns - he was the first to reconcile husband and wife, children with parents; the first who stopped one of the family members from sliding into one or another vice. Most often, the husband's drunkenness stopped after his wife's tears, when she brought him, suffering from this vice, to the priest, and the priest, in the presence of the parish - and everyone knew each other - before the cross and the Gospel, took an oath from him that he would stop drinking. And they stopped! The parish was a place of spiritual and physical healing; it was here that people became acquainted with the word of God, received an interpretation of these great words, and edification in practical life - be it family or even professional.
And from what position was this edification carried out? Not at all in order for the Church to acquire certain advantages, but from a single position - to actualize the great, unchanging and eternal Christian truths that God has given to the human race through the Church, so that people learn to motivate their actions precisely with Christian convictions. Not by considerations of their perceived benefit, not by considerations of conjuncture, not by considerations of profit, but by their conscience, imbued with Christian convictions.
And then secondly, whether people know the law or not, whether the legislative system is developed or not - everyone lives according to the law of conscience. After all, this is how our people lived! It would be good to ask historians when castles appeared on Russian huts, in what century and in what year. People never closed their houses. No one could enter this house and do anything bad - only good if they came to the rescue. Contracts worth millions were concluded without notaries, without signatures - people just looked into each other’s eyes, shook hands and asked the priest to bless.
This is how Rus' was built. And this is not an idyllic picture, this is not a romanticization of the past - these are examples of what happens to a people when people become believers. Not just once a year who come to church to bless the Easter cakes, but by living by faith, regularly visiting the temple, studying the word of God in educational institutions at the temple.
We are talking today about the gap between the older and younger generations. Is there a point of contact between the elders and the younger? The house has ceased to be such a point. The home becomes a place of conflict, a place of endless disputes and even violence, a place of stress for both some and others. Prosperous children from rich families become strangers to their parents. What does the money go to? Traveling abroad, playing sports - but suddenly at some point the family realizes that it no longer exists, that everyone is strangers to each other. I can continue these sketches from our life together ad infinitum, this is a listing of conflicts and human suffering.
Surely people outside the Church have some recipes on how to fix all this. But where are these recipes? Where are these people? If someone today offers a recipe, then its implementation works for one or another political force, for one or another political or corporate interests - someone wants to receive political or economic dividends.
School has ceased to be a place of education; the university has forgotten what it is. Where will our people gather? Where will we fall to the source of grace, to the source of truth that heals our personal, family, and social ailments? By the grace of God, our people amazingly preserve their faith, having gone through the most difficult trials of a godless time, and continuing today to repel attacks on the Church, not succumbing to temptations and enticements. As sociological statistics not sympathetic to the Church testify, no campaigns against the Church reduce the number of believers. Once again I would like to remind you that this year, as never before, the churches of Moscow and other Russian cities were filled with people during Lent and Holy Week.
Let this be our response to all the attacks of those who have more strength than us. They broadcast 24 hours on dozens of television channels, they use the full power of the Internet - you and I do not have such power and will never have it. But in order to survive as a community of faith, in order to convey our impulse to all the people, we must be here in church with our hearts, visit it as often as possible, bring our children here - both to church and to Sunday school, to participate in various parish projects, whether either social, cultural or educational. We must form a society around the temples of God.
And the builders who erected the temple should not treat this as just their professional work - they built it and went to another project. This temple must come into your life. Visit him. If you live far away, then come at least several times a year, bring your family, show this beauty, tell us that your contribution is here.
An amazing spiritual center is being created at this place. It all started with a small house, which in 1946, on the orders of Stalin, was given to Patriarch Alexy I. Then, under His Holiness Patriarchs Alexy, Pimen and Alexy, this place began to expand. And most importantly, not only is the space for the work of the Patriarch and the Holy Synod expanding, but new churches are also appearing, and this place is becoming one of the spiritual centers of Moscow. And the construction of the Church of the Holy Blessed Prince Igor of Chernigov completed one of the most important pages in the creation of this Patriarchal spiritual center in Moscow.
I would like to express special gratitude to all those who worked hard to carry out our plans, carrying out such a difficult project.”
