    Around the holy places
Modernity with shades of patriarchal antiquity, thriving industry and agricultural lands spread throughout the area. All this is Troitsk, a small city in the south of the Chelyabinsk region, almost on the very border with Kazakhstan.

One of the main city holidays is Pentecost or Holy Trinity Day. It was this Orthodox celebration that first gave the name to the fortress, and then to the city. The Troitsk residents call Ivan Neplyuev the founder of their small homeland. On Trinity Day 1743, this officer, together with a detachment of Cossacks, began construction of the fortress. Such an undertaking was more than necessary in those days on the border with the lands of nomads - the Kazakh and Bashkir tribes. It so happened that the future city of Troitsk stood on the Great Silk Road - the main trade route between Russia and Asian countries, and became the site of one of the largest Russian fairs.

They say that shopping arcades from two hundred years ago are still preserved here. The 19th century was a heyday for Troitsk - new shops and merchant houses were built, which today have become the historical and cultural heritage of the entire Southern Urals. At the beginning of the 20th century, half of the population of Troitsk were Muslims, and there were also Jews.

Over time, the city turned from a provincial-scale shopping center into a Soviet regional center. The war and the post-war period greatly influenced the life of settlements, even those far from the front line. Yes, there were no bombings or hostilities, but hunger, the influx of residents evacuated from the western regions of the Soviet Union, the hardest labor - Troitsk experienced all this to the fullest. In the 1990s, Troitsk became one of the centers of energy development; it was here that the first foundation blocks of one of the largest power plants in the Urals were laid. Troitsk became an industrial city. It is interesting that in terms of the number of sunny days per year, Troitsk surpasses even the all-Russian health resort of Sochi.

On July 26, 2012, Troitsk became the cathedral city of the newly formed diocese. The Trinity and South Ural departments were allocated within eight districts of the Chelyabinsk region; for a long time the department was vacant; it was temporarily ruled by the head of the Chelyabinsk Metropolis. And at the next meeting of the Holy Synod, a Bishop was appointed here - Bishop Gregory. A few days after his consecration, Vladyka hurried to the flock who had been waiting for him for so long.

Bishop of Trinity and South Ural Gregory : – The city of Troitsk itself made the most favorable impression on me. This city is rich in history, has very beautiful buildings and very beautiful temples. Of course, efforts must be made to restore these churches, because most of them were closed during the Soviet years, like most churches in Russia. We will do this. But the most important thing we must do is the restoration and restoration of human souls.

The young diocese is part of the Chelyabinsk Metropolis. It is worth noting that we have experience of our own church life in Troitsk. In 1925–31 there was a Trinity Vicariate of the Chelyabinsk diocese. Here, in the south of the Chelyabinsk region, lived Cossacks who not only maintained their faith, but could also stand up for it with arms in hand. The clergy of the Chelyabinsk Metropolis hopes that the city of Troitsk will find a second birth in the church sense in these fateful days.

Bishop of Trinity and South Ural Gregory : - I am grateful to God that He sent me to serve here. I will say again that I like the city, I like the people - the main wealth of the city. The people here are kind and positive towards the Orthodox Church.

Today, for the Trinity Diocese to become a truly full-fledged Orthodox department, a lot of work remains to be done. The Bishop notes that there is a problem of shortage of clergy, but over time, God willing, it will be resolved.

In general, the church hierarchy has identified several areas of diocesan work - missionary, catechetical, social service, educational activities, work with youth. According to Bishop Gregory, we must never forget that the main task of the Church is the salvation of people. This is precisely what everything in the Church should be directed towards. Now the Archpastor has to organize the work of the diocesan departments and find a worthy leader for each of them.

Bishop of Trinity and South Ural Gregory : – For now, the diocesan administration shares the building with the agricultural administration of the Trinity region, but I hope that in the near future the building will be at our disposal, and we will be able to place there all the structures necessary for the work of the diocesan administration. I assume that we will have the same departments that exist in other diocesan departments.

The diocese has preserved many marvelous, ancient, unique churches. There is a women's St. Kazan monastery with a monastery. The young bishop is open to everything new and the continuation of the good traditions laid down by his predecessors on this earth. At least that’s what those South Ural priests who managed to work with him think.

Priest Leonid Glebets, rector of the Church of the Archangel Michael of God (village Koelga) : - There was some kind of expectation with great hope. The expectation of eternal life is embedded in the soul, but it does not exist on earth. A person strives for some semblance of it - so that relationships between people are brotherly, joyful, so that people live according to the commandments, walk with God. And this was the expectation our priests had. And it looks like it's coming true. The diocese is small, we already know many of the priests, and we will soon become closely acquainted with the rest. The impression is that we will have a friendly united family.

God willing, so it will be. And we wish the Trinity Diocese prosperity and prosperity, and its first Ruling Bishop, Vladyka Gregory, God's help in his difficult ministry.

Bishop of Trinity and South Ural Gregory : - The bishop is responsible for the entire Church in his diocese: the “bishop” is the “overseer”; he observes how the life of the parish is actively developing. A priest often has a look that is somewhat narrower than that of a bishop. He is often not interested, I will not hide this, in other parishes appearing nearby; he is not interested in parishioners dissatisfied with his service leaving him for another church that may be open nearby. And the bishop has care and must have equal love for each of the parishes. The bishop is responsible for the life of the entire diocese, is responsible for the state of all parishes, and takes care of the spiritual life of the entire diocese.
