Prayer to the Holy Queen Tamara of Georgia

Personal life of the Georgian ruler

The Georgian nobility was very unhappy that the country was ruled by a woman and therefore tried to get her married as quickly as possible.
In 1185, a merchant was sent to Rus' to find a suitable groom for Tamara. He chose Georgy (Yuri) Bogolyubsky (grandson of Yuri Dolgoruky). But the young couple did not have a happy family—the husband drank and led a dissolute lifestyle. And after 2.5 years, the queen was forced to send him into exile to the city of Constantinople. After the dissolution of the marriage, the offended George and his army went to Georgia in 1191 to regain the lost throne. He managed to occupy Kutaisi and was crowned there, but then the rebellion was suppressed and Yuri was expelled again. Despite this, the defeated ex-husband later made another attempt to take away the Georgian throne.

The second husband of Queen Tamara was her childhood friend and pupil of the same Rusudan, the Alan prince David Soslan. This time the girl chose her betrothed herself. This marriage was happy and gave the couple two children: son George IV Lasha and daughter Rusudan. The names of the children were not chosen by chance: the boy was named after the illustrious grandfather, and the daughter was named after the beloved mentor of the mistress. Her husband David was Tamara’s friend and comrade-in-arms on military campaigns for many years. Together they brilliantly won major battles and pursued an aggressive foreign policy. The woman survived him only by a few years.

Good day everyone! We will be glad to see you on our video channel on YouTube Video Channel. Subscribe to the channel, watch the video.

Many believers who are not particularly involved in church affairs are little familiar with this image. Let's figure out what it means and how the Mother of God “Three Joys” helps.

The meaning of the holy face

Some scriptures say that this image was based on the image of the “Holy Family”, which was painted by the Italian artist Raphael. According to legend, in the 18th century, a list of this painting came to the territory of Russia, thanks to one artist who studied painting in Italy. He presented this list to the rector of the temple, who was located in Gryazi. After the artist’s death, the priest ordered this image to be hung in front of the entrance to the temple. But how did it become the icon of the Three Joys?

This image depicts the Mother of God with a baby in her arms, and on either side of her are John the Baptist and Joseph the Betrothed. Regarding the name “Three Joys” there is the following legend. One day, a noble lady was simultaneously visited by 3 misfortunes:

  • Her only son was captured during the war.
  • Her husband was slandered and exiled into captivity.
  • The acquired property was taken away by the state.

She had no choice but to offer prayers to the Lord and the Mother of God for intercession and help. And one day she received a vision which said that she must find the face of the “Holy Family”. She walked around a large number of temples in search of this image. And one day I came across the Trinity Church, where I saw this face. Kneeling down, she read a fervent prayer. After this, three good news were sent to her. Since then, this image began to bear its current name.

How does the “Three Joys” image help?

The heartfelt prayer to the Mother of God “Three Joys” can help solve some problems. So, for example, she is asked about:

  • assistance in a foreign land, abroad,
  • forgiveness of sins, as well as deliverance from unpalatable deeds and thoughts,
  • protection of soldiers,
  • granting strength and defeating enemies,
  • return of stolen items.

Often, turning the prayer to the Mother of God “Three Joys” has various reasons. This face is also considered the protector of the hearth, as well as the presence of well-being in it. The Mother of God will always help you avoid negative phrases directed at you, slander and empty accusations. In addition, she will guide you on the right path. In addition, it will also help you find lost things, and maybe even bring back loved ones. The most important thing is words that must come from a pure heart and with faith in the positive outcome of the matter.

The words of the prayer to this image are as follows:

“Oh, Most Holy Virgin, the All-Blessed Son of the All-Blessed Mother, the protection of the capital city and the holy temple of this temple, faithful to the Representative and Intercessor of all who are in sins and sorrows! Do not despise the prayers of us, Thy unworthy servants, but pray to Thy Son and our God, that He may grant to all of us, who worship Thy miraculous image with faith and tenderness, according to each need: to the sinner - all-effective admonition, repentance and salvation; for those who are in sorrow and sorrow - consolation; for those who remain in troubles and embitterment - complete relief from them; for the faint-hearted and unreliable - hope and patience; to those who live in joy and abundance - unceasing thanksgiving to God; to those in illness - healing and strengthening.

Oh, Most Holy Lady, have mercy on all who honor Your honorable name and show everyone Your all-powerful protection and intercession, protect and preserve people from visible and invisible enemies. Establish marriages in love and like-mindedness; raise babies; Young chastity, open their minds to the perception of every useful teaching; Protect half-blooded people from domestic quarrels with peace and love, and give us all love, peace and piety, and health with long life, so that everyone in heaven and on earth will lead You as a strong and unashamed Representative of the Christian race and, this is true, glorify You and Your Son with His beginningless Father and His Consubstantial Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen".

Prayer to Blessed Tamara, Queen of Georgia

O holy Queen Tamaro! Do not forget us, but remember in your holy prayers the servant of God ( names

), pray for us, holy queen. Do not give up on us in spirit, save us from the arrows of the enemy, from the charms of demons and the snares of the devil. Ask us time to repent and pass without restraint from earth to heaven through the ordeals of bitter demons, so that through your intercession we will be delivered from eternal torment and be worthy to inherit the Kingdom of Heaven with all the righteous who have pleased Christ our Lord from the ages: to Him belongs all glory, honor and worship, now and to endless ages of ages.

How not to make a mistake when choosing a personalized icon?

In Rus', when baptizing infants, it was customary to give them the names of one or another saint. The chosen saint became the child’s patron, protecting him from illness and danger from birth, and helping him in difficult times. Now this tradition is being restored. Each baptized person has his own Heavenly helper, whose life path should serve as an example and lead forward.

A personalized icon depicting the patron saint has enormous power. She is able to drive away illnesses and bring peace and harmony to the soul. By sincerely praying before her, a person receives support

We advise you to study the Prayer “Cry to the Virgin Mary”

It is important not to treat a personal icon mercantilely, as a means of solving all problems. Thank your protector for the good things in your life, share your joy and your feelings with him

You can find out which saint is a person’s patron in the following ways:

  • Having studied the church calendar. Usually the child is named after the saint whose memory is honored on the day closest to his date of birth.
  • From loved ones. Sometimes parents give their child the name of a saint who is especially revered by them.
  • From the certificate of Baptism.
  • In the temple where the ceremony took place. If a person’s name is not in the church calendar, then at baptism a second name is given: it can be consonant with the first (Alina - Angelina) or meaning (Yuri - Georgy). Records of this must be kept and can be raised.

Personalized icons are selected in the church shop

Usually on them the patron is depicted from the waist up; icon painters pay special attention to the eyes. They must look into a person’s soul, filling it with light and harmony

If you are named after a little-known saint, you can order a personalized icon from an icon-painting workshop.

Personalized icons for children

For newborn children, baby-sized icons are often made. They depict the patron in full height. This image is hung above the crib. It protects the baby and helps to establish a special spiritual connection between him and the saint.

A personalized icon will help the child visibly feel the presence of a saint in his life. It’s good if parents read to their grown-up child the life of his spiritual patron and learn together the prayer addressed to him

It is important that the holy “namesakes” become for children not just a lifesaver to which you resort in difficult situations, but a powerful moral guide

Life

Brief life of Blessed Tamara, Queen of Georgia

Saint Tamara [1] (1184–1213), Georgian queen, was the daughter of George III from the beautiful Burdukhan. Under her mother, Christianity had already spread to different parts of Georgia. Tamara left a good memory of herself among the people. Some Georgian tribes revere Tamara as a healer of ailments.

Georgian legends glorify her meekness, peacefulness, wisdom, religiosity and beauty. It is also known that Saint Tamara cared for the poor people, widows, orphans and contributed to the spiritual development of Georgia. In addition, she patronized poets and writers, built many temples, as well as the luxurious Vardzia Palace. For her care and generous gifts, the church canonized Tamara as a saint.

Saint Tamara convened a church council, which eliminated the troubles in church life and removed unworthy hierarchs. Her state activities were also successful, thanks to which the Georgian kingdom increased and became stronger.

Brief biography

Irene of Egypt is known for her preaching work in the 3rd century, during the reign of Emperor Aurelian. Her sister in Christ Sophia walked with her on the land of Egypt. For preaching, the girls were tortured by order of the emperor and beheaded.

Irina the Great lived in the 1st century after the birth of Christ. It is also called Egyptian. More is known about the life of the martyr, but her life resembles an artistic opus on a biblical theme.

Origin

The Macedonian saint in the world was called Penelope. Her homeland is the Mygdonia region in Macedonia. She was the daughter of the ruler of Licinius. Sometimes there are references to the fact that the Egyptian saint came from the Slavs. The girl grew up to be a beauty. Her father put her in a high tower to protect her from temptation. Her mentor was the Christian elder Apelian. Princess Penelope's life was rich, but not idle. The girl studied science and Christian teaching.

The emergence of birds and conversion

One day Penelope had an apparition. Three birds sat on the window: a dove with an olive branch, a raven with a snake and an eagle with a wreath of flowers. The girl asked the mentor what this meant. The elder explained that the signs predicted her future: faith in Christ, torment for His sake and the crown of holiness.

Life and service to God

According to one legend, an angel came to Penelope. He told her about the laws of God. Penelope was baptized by him with the name Irina, which means “peace.” According to another version, she was baptized by the Apostle Timothy, with whom Apelian was familiar. The girl went against her idolater father, thereby dooming herself to suffering. Many pagan rulers sophisticatedly tortured the girl, forcing her to renounce Christ, but the instruments of torture did not harm her invulnerable body.

Her life was devoted to missionary work. Peasants and soldiers were baptized after seeing the miracles of Irina’s resurrection and patience. It is known that she preached in the cities of Magedon in Persia, Kallinikos, also known as Racca, in Mesopotamia, and Ephesus. Through the efforts of the saint, even people of high ranks converted to Christianity.

The martyr entered Mesemvria with an olive branch in her hand - a symbol of resurrection. The entire population of the city and the ruler converted to Christianity. In Ephesus she performed miracles comparable to the miracles of the apostles. The preacher was approached by parents whose son had died. Through her prayer, he woke up. The disciples walked with her as with Jesus.

The torment of the martyr

For rejecting idols, King Licinius sentenced his daughter to death. She was to be trampled by wild horses. But the king himself fell under the hooves of a rebellious animal and died. Irina prayed to God and her father was resurrected. The revived king accepted Christianity, abdicated the throne and devoted the rest of his life to penitential prayers in the tower in which his daughter lived.

The king's viceroy, Zedekiah, fought against Christianity. Many subjects rejected paganism. The new ruler was unable to break the culprit of the religious schism and force her to renounce the Christian God. A new execution awaited Irina - in a ditch with snakes. But God protected her. She lived in a hole for 10 days, and the snakes did not touch her. After such a miracle, even more Christians appeared in the state. Zedekiah's authority was undermined. The people rebelled against Irina's new torture and overthrew the governor.

Zedekiah's son, Sapor, sought revenge for his father. He gathered a military detachment and went on the offensive to win the throne. But along the way, the warriors and their leader became blind. Then Irina appeared to them and healed everyone with prayer.

We advise you to study the Prayer of the Ostrobramskaya Mother of God

Sapor, who had regained his sight, was not inflamed with gratitude. He came up with a punishment for the woman who killed his father: he stuck nails in her feet and forced her to walk 5 kilometers with a bag of sand on her shoulders. For torturing Irina, the military detachment was overtaken by God's punishment: the earth moved apart under their feet and many soldiers disappeared into the abyss. The survivors believed. Only Sapor remained faithful to his father’s idols.

New intrigues of the enemies of Christianity overtook Irina in Raqqa. The king of Mesopotamia ordered the prefect of the city to arrest and torture the preacher, but the mayor was imbued with the commandments of God and accepted Christianity. Many years later, Tsar Sapor again called Irina to account. This time he managed to behead her. But her preaching mission was not completed, and an angel revived the martyr.

Death and canonization

The end of Saint Irene’s life also echoes the events in Jerusalem. An angel brought her news of her imminent death. Irina, with her students and mentor Apelian, went to a cave in the mountains. The saint entered there alone, ordered the entrance to be closed with a stone and opened in 4 days. When the tomb was opened, it was empty.

In different sources, researchers find different dates of death. The exact time of canonization is also not known. She began to be revered as a holy martyr back in ancient Constantinople.

Brief biography of the righteous Godfathers

The parents of the Holy Virgin Mary, who gave birth to the Savior to the world, were barren. Joachim was the name of the husband, Anna was his pious wife. They lived in the Galilean city of Nazareth and were of a noble family, Joachim was one of the descendants of King David.

The family led a pious lifestyle, but had no children. So they lived childless to a ripe old age. In addition to the grief of their parents’ hearts over the absence of children, they also had to patiently endure reproach and contempt from their fellow countrymen. In those days, it was believed that the absence of children was God's punishment for a sinful life. But how wrong they were! This was not a punishment, but a test and preparation for the most important mission on earth - to become the parents of the one without whom there would have been neither the Nativity of Christ nor our salvation.

Interesting fact

The contempt from his compatriots was so cruel that during one of the Old Testament holidays, the serving priest did not accept the sacrifice made as a gift to God from a pious husband, considering it unworthy. Joachim's grief was so great that he could not return home, but retired to a deserted place, imposed a strict fast on himself and earnestly began to offer prayers to the Creator.

Having learned that the reason for her husband’s absence was his public humiliation, Anna tearfully begged God to give her a baby. The uncomplaining bearing of one’s cross, the endurance of unfair reproaches, the feat of prayer - everything was accepted by God. After 50 years of married life, the elderly parents were given a daughter, whom the holy parents named Mary, fulfilling a vow.

Name Tamara

Holy Blessed Queen Tamara the Great (1166–1213)

When Saint Tamara ascended the throne, she said: “I am the father of orphans and the mother of widows.” This phrase defined her entire reign.

Tamara came from the noble Bagration family, which, according to legend, dates back to King David himself.

Her father George proclaimed his daughter queen in 1178. 7 years later he died. From that moment the reign of the saint began.

The queen began her reign with personnel changes. She removed rulers and military leaders who abused their power and appointed others in their place. She freed the Church from taxation and eased the lot of the peasants.

In 1185, the patriarch proposed marriage to the ruler. For this purpose, an embassy was sent to Rus'. Soon it returned along with George, the son of Prince Andrei Bogolyubsky. Tamara assured her circle that the wedding should be postponed. After all, you still need to understand what kind of person he is.

But the courtiers insisted on their own. Unfortunately, the wise queen’s fears came true. Georgy turned out to be partial to alcohol, committing “many indecent things.” For two and a half years, Tamara endured his rude treatment, trying in every possible way to reason with her husband. It was all in vain.

She had to separate from her husband.

During the reign of Saint Tamara, the country reached the peak of its glory and power. The queen was a fair judge. Her hard work, talent for government, and Christian compassion predetermined the “Golden Age” of Georgia.

She successfully stopped the invasion of Caliph Abu Bakr, who, having gathered a huge army from India, hoped to profit from the riches of Georgia. The same fate befell another invader, Sultan Rukn ad-Din.

Immediately after her accession to the throne, Tamara paid close attention to the organization of a single liturgical charter and church canon. She called on all theologically educated people, experts in the Law of God, bishops and priests to come to the city of Kartli. A general council was soon held here, at which the queen herself was present.

A general council was soon held here, at which the queen herself was present.

There is still debate among historians and archaeologists about the exact burial place of Saint Tamara.

Other saints named Tamara:

(1880–1937) - born in the Ryazan province into the family of a priest. From the age of 15 she labored in a monastery in Ivanovo-Voznesensk. After the revolution and the closure of the monastery, she and the abbess worked at the Children's Commission for the Deaf and Mutes.

In 1932, Tamara was arrested on charges of “anti-Soviet agitation.” However, due to a lack of materials, she was released. The re-arrest resulted in a five-year exile.

On December 15, 1937, nun Tamara was shot.

(1876–1942) - in the world Maria, was born in the Estonian province into a Lutheran family. The saint was left without parents at an early age and was raised in a shelter for orphan girls at the women's Orthodox community in Ievve. In 1917, in the Kozmodemyansky Trinity Monastery of the Kazan diocese, Maria took monastic vows with the name Tamara.

She became the head of the Cheboksary Vladimir women's community, which was soon transformed into a monastery. In 1930 it was closed. The former abbess was arrested in 1941 on suspicion of espionage. Based on false evidence, she was sentenced to ten years in the camps.

The next year, while logging, she died of heart disease.

Commemoration: May 1/14, Week of the Myrrh-Bearing Women (movable celebration)

The reign of Saint Tamara is known as the golden age of Georgian history: Queen Tamara was distinguished by high piety and, continuing the endeavors of her grandfather, the blessed King David III the Renewer, contributed to the widespread dissemination of the faith of Christ throughout Georgia, the construction of churches and monasteries.
At one time, she convened a church council, which eliminated the troubles in church life and removed unworthy hierarchs. In 1204, the ruler of the Rum Sultanate, Rukn-ed-Din, turned to Queen Tamara demanding that Georgia renounce Christianity and adopt Islam. Queen Tamara rejected this demand, and in the historic battle near Basiani, the Georgian army defeated the coalition of Muslim states. The peace that emerged after the victorious wars had a beneficial effect on the development of Georgian culture. Saint Tamara was distinguished by her extraordinary mercy towards the poor and generosity towards her enemies. The day on which the queen could not give alms to the poor, she considered lost for herself. During her reign there was not a single case of the death penalty, corporal punishment, or punishments involving self-harm. In her time there was no oppression, no extortion, no robbery among the people. Wanting to give alms from the labors of her hands, the holy Queen Tamara spun and embroidered at night, and distributed the money received for her needlework to the poor. The reign of the blessed Queen Tamara won her nationwide love. She spent the last years of her life in the cave monastery of Vardzia.

Saint Tamara of Georgia is the mother and heavenly patroness of Georgia, philanthropists, temple builders, judges, soldiers and other sovereign people, as well as the creative intelligentsia. They pray to Queen Tamara to protect home and family from troubles, theft and other misfortunes. They turn to her, revered among the myrrh-bearing women, for protection from the harmful vices of themselves and loved ones, from unbelief or doubts in faith, about healing from mental and physical illnesses, about the fullness and depth of repentance and about intercession before the Lord for the salvation of the soul.

The Story of Saint Martha

That’s right, in fact, the Orthodox ascetic, who was born in the second half of the 19th century in Volgograd, is called Martha, and Martha is the Catholic pronunciation of the name. Secondly, no one knows the original name (and surname).

We advise you to study Prayers to Andrew, for Christ's sake the holy fool

The world learned about this girl precisely thanks to her ascetic feat, which began with a trip to St. Petersburg. It was not in vain that we mentioned Saint John of Kronstadt at the beginning, because it was thanks to him that the girl became an ascetic. Once in St. Petersburg, she saw an Orthodox elder and he predicted her life in Christ and for his glory.

That's exactly what happened. Returning to her native Volgograd, Marfa encounters family rejection of her passion for Christianity, but does not succumb to worldly comfort and leaves home. Having settled in a small shed, he prays regularly, and then takes upon himself the feat of foolishness for Christ’s sake. Over time, various miracles begin to appear and many people even have an icon on the iconostasis in their homes, which, according to believers, fulfills wishes, of course with the image of Martha.

Only the ascetic herself strongly opposed such veneration and did not particularly welcome the veneration of her icons. Moreover, she has not yet been officially recognized as a saint, that is, for churchgoers, the phrase Saint Martha in the strict sense is not acceptable, nor is the veneration of icons. Nevertheless, prayers are possible, and icons, by the grace of the Lord, bring good to people, because, in fact, canonization in this situation is nothing more than a formality.

During her relatively short earthly journey (1880-1925), Martha gained veneration from a significant number of believers. Even the wife of Emperor Nicholas II came to her for advice and help.

If we touch on the meaning of the icon of St. Martha, then it invisibly helps believers to this day. A huge stream of pilgrims regularly flocks to the grave in Volgograd, many of whom take some soil for themselves in order to heal, and the workers of the Central Cemetery of Volgograd carefully add sand there again. The icon of St. Martha the Wonderworking is available for veneration and is located at the Dmitrovskoe cemetery of the city.
