Sweet, power

Another partial combination characteristic of Church Slavonicisms is “-la-”. In Russian it corresponds to “-olo-”.

Historically, “sweet” and “malt” are the same root Etymological online dictionary of the Russian language N.M. Shansky words. The Old Russian “sweetheart” has not survived to this day.

“Power” is also a borrowing Etymological online dictionary of the Russian language by Max Vasmer from Church Slavonic. But the Russian “volost”, although it is found today, has a narrower meaning Reference and information portal “GRAMOTA.RU” - “administrative-territorial unit”.

Clothes, hope, thirst

Church Slavonicisms are characterized by the combination “-zh-” in place of the Russian “-zh-”. In addition to the “clothes” that came from the Old Church Slavonic Etymological online dictionary of the Russian language N. M. Shansky, there is the colloquial Russian “clothes”. The same situation. Etymological online dictionary of the Russian language by Max Vasmer with the words “hope” and “hope”. And there is also “reliable” without “-zh-”.

The word “thirst” once had a Russian analogue “thirst” Etymological online dictionary of the Russian language by Max Vasmer, which is now unlikely to be found.

We see the same alternation of “-zh-” and “-zh-” in the already mentioned pair “citizen - city dweller”.

Help, cave

Another feature of borrowings from Church Slavonic is the use of “sch” instead of “ch”. The original Russian version is “help” Etymological online dictionary of the Russian language by Max Vasmer. Let us remember Pushkin: “God help you, my friends.” However, Church Slavonicism “help” replaced this word.

And the word “cave” has an Old Russian analogue “pechora” Uspensky L.V. Etymological dictionary of a schoolchild, which is preserved in dialects and in the name of the river.

By the way, the suffixes of the participles “-ash-” and “-yash-” also came § 6. The role of the Old Bulgarian (and Church Slavonic) language in the formation and development of the Russian literary language from Church Slavonic. Now there are pairs in which words with the original Russian suffixes “-ach-” and “-yach-” are adjectives, and with Church Slavonic “-ash-” and “-yash-” are participles: “lying - lying”, “ wandering - wandering", "seeing - seeing" and the like.

Harm, environment, time

Again Church Slavonic disagreement - “-re-”. In the dialects, the Etymological online dictionary of the Russian language N. M. Shansky has preserved the original Russian analogue of the word “harm” - “vered”. There is also full agreement in the adjective “fastidious”.

Let us also remember the word “environment”, to which in Russian we find a full-vowel cognate “middle”. But “veremya” has not survived to this day, unlike Church Slavonic “time”.

The prefixes “pre-”, “pre-”, “through-” are also of Church Slavonic origin § 4. Distribution of church-religious writing in Ancient Rus'. They have full-vowel correspondences in Russian: “pere-”, “before-”, “through-”.

Hello citizen country

One of the features of § 4. The spread of church-religious writing in Ancient Rus' of Church Slavonicisms is the incomplete combination “-ra-”, which corresponds to the full-voiced Russian “-oro-”: “hello”, “health”, but “healthy”, “health” .

The same partial Church Slavonicisms include “citizen” (Russian “city dweller”), “country” (Russian “side”). Over time, the Church Slavonic and Russian versions diverged in meaning, securing different meanings.
