The main prayers that everyone should know: 12 Orthodox texts

Prayer is the source of God's Blessing, a conversation with God, a holy sacrament that occurs between man and the Creator. Through prayer we turn to the Higher Powers when we need something. Unfortunately, we rarely remember God and the Saints when everything is going well with us.

There are a lot of prayers, but there are some that every person needs to know by heart so that they can use them at any time. For God to hear and help, it is not enough to turn to him only in difficult life situations.

I will tell you what prayers everyone should know and how to use them correctly.

How to pray correctly

There is an opinion among priests about how to pray correctly so that God will hear. Esotericists believe that God is inside everyone and you can turn to Him in any words. But today we will get acquainted with the advice of the Orthodox on how to read prayers.

Original source

The Internet is replete with various sites on which prayers are published, including ancient ones, translated into a modern way. Holy texts were created by holy people for a reason.

The words and phrases of these texts were constructed in such a way that, by reading them, a person could tune in to the wave of communication with the Divine.

Ancient prayers have certain vibrations, in tune with the vibrations of God and the Saints, depending on who the holy scripture is directed to. Therefore, it is very important to read the text accurately without changing a single word.

Lack of self-excitation

Some people, when reading prayers, fall into an excessive emotional state, tenderness, and tearfulness. The Orthodox consider this state to be self-delusion, a self-isolation into which the devil pushes people in order to deprive them of the saving effect of prayer. Divine Grace is a completely different state, and it cannot be caused by self-excitation.

A state of ecstasy is unacceptable while reading prayers

The prayer should not be read purely mechanically, repeating the text many times without a feeling of repentance, without delving into the meaning and without understanding what is written. This is how mantras or spells are recited in order for a state of ecstasy to occur. When reading prayers, such a state is of no use.

It is necessary to pray in front of icons

The mind is capable of leading a person away from the truth, creating various images that have nothing to do with the process of reading prayers, therefore, in order to prevent the mind from leading itself into the wilds, it is advisable to carry out the process of reading prayers directly in front of the icons, peering into the eyes of the God or Saint depicted on them .

A person cannot set conditions for God in prayer

Prayer is a way of communicating between God and man through words. Only man is given the ability to address God with rational words. And if a person begins to set conditions for God in prayer, then this is no longer prayer, but an instrument of pagan magic. Christian prayer is filled with reverence and fear of God.

Congregational Prayer

Corporate prayer is an important part of church life. It connects and unites believers who have common beliefs.

Agree, it will become much easier for someone who struggles with life’s difficulties alone if other people pray for him before the throne of Grace. And such a prayer will be heard more quickly by our Lord.

Congregational prayer also teaches “beginners” how to pray and leads them to a closer connection with God.

Humility and obedience

Correct prayer brings a person closer to God. What does this mean? The Lord is Holy, and approaching Him is approaching Holiness. Therefore, prayer performed correctly should evoke obedience in a person, that is, the desire to obey God, and humility that everything is His Will. If a person becomes selfish and self-righteous during prayer, then the prayer he is performing is false.

Joy for other people's misfortunes is unacceptable in prayer.

Typically, Orthodox prayers contain three themes - glorification or thanksgiving, repentance and petition. Many people send curses through prayers and desire revenge, asking God to send all sorts of misfortunes and troubles to another person.

This is no longer a prayer, but a black magic spell. In Christianity, such behavior is absolutely unacceptable. “Love your neighbor as yourself” or “love your enemies who curse you...”.

These are the commandments of Christ that every Christian must follow.

The main prayers that every person should know

There are a great variety of prayers for all occasions, but there are some that every person should know by heart.

Basic Prayers: Very Powerful Prayer Texts Everyone Should Know

All church texts that any Christian should know are endowed with an all-consuming faith in God and love for Him. Through these texts, powerful in energy and meaning, one can see the human desire to believe, hope, endure, forgive, love, admit one’s mistakes and sins, and also repent.

Orthodox people should read prayers at home, on the road, visiting church during the liturgy or regular worship. Only by regularly pronouncing sacred words can each person gain peace of mind, self-confidence, become kinder and more merciful to others, receive love, health, success, and not be alone in trouble and problematic situations.

Video “The Power of Prayer”

In this video, the archpriest will tell you why you need to read prayers, what meaning prayer words have for a person, and how the life of everyone who sincerely asks changes.

Main prayers

A conversation with God is important for a person, and even more than sleep, food, shelter, clothing. There are no main or secondary prayers, but still there are appeals that are the basis of the foundations of the Christian faith.

Our Father

This is a fundamental prayer, and every church service always begins with it. The sacred text must be recited by any believer after waking up and at the end of the working day. “Our Father” is endowed with powerful energy; it is customary to read the prayer before rituals, conspiracies, or the beginning of a serious business or treatment of a sick person.

The text is pronounced three times, it contains an appeal to the Lord, recognition of his greatness and ability to help people in any earthly matter. Christians ask the Savior to give them food daily, to protect them from devilish temptations, and to forgive them their debts and sins. And they believe that the Heavenly Father will never leave them.

Symbol of faith

This prayer is known as the “Creed” or “Symbol of the Orthodox Faith.” It speaks of man's true and deep faith in God the Father Almighty, who created the earth, heaven and all living things. It also talks about a Christian’s readiness to attend church, lead a righteous life, praise God, ask for his help and protection, and await the Kingdom of God on earth.

The text also talks about faith in the atonement of earthly sins before the Lord, hope for the coming of the time when the resurrection of the dead and eternal carefree life on earth under the protection of the Creator will become possible. Like the “Our Father,” this prayer ends with the word “Amen.”

Live help

The prayer is also called “Living in Help” - this is Psalm 90 or the Song of Praise of David. In it, the believer calls God the Most High, Lord, Intercessor, Refuge.

Earthly man completely trusts in the Heavenly Father and asks the angels to protect the Son of God from evil and troubles.

The text mentions how Jesus suffered for all humanity while on the cross, smashed his feet on stones and accepted inhuman torment so that all people on earth could live calmly and happily.

“Living help” is usually read from the devil if the believer is afraid of him and evil machinations, even bad thoughts. He hopes for God’s strong protection from demonic fears in dreams and temptations during the day.

King of heaven

Another strong appeal in which God is called the King of Heaven, the Comforter and the Soul of Truth. A simple person who has filled his heart and soul with faith and goodness prays to the Almighty for salvation and protection from evil in all its manifestations. A Christian recognizes that God is not only the Creator, but that he controls everything on earth and gives various benefits to people who try to lead a righteous life.

Why do people turn to God

The Christian faith advises every person to begin and end his day with prayer, to be baptized and bow to God, to light a candle while in the Church of the Lord, to ask for the salvation of the souls of all Orthodox Christians, and also to turn to the Savior before a meal or an upcoming important task.

People turn to God with a request to protect, console or help when they feel that they do not have the strength to cope with the troubles that have arisen. At such moments, the common man needs the support of a higher power standing above us all.

Turning to God helps you calm down, make the right decision, and find spiritual support. Christ called behind him all who endured sorrow and worked hard, called on humanity to ask the Heavenly Father for consolation, having in his soul true faith in the greatness of the Lord and his supremacy over all things on Earth.

Orthodox daily prayers

  • ORTHODOX PRAYERS
  • Every Orthodox Christian is obliged to pray daily, morning and evening, before and after eating food, before starting and at the end of any task.
  • In the morning we pray to thank God for preserving us last night, to ask for His Fatherly blessing and help for the day that has begun.
  • In the evening, before going to bed, we also thank the Lord for a successful day and ask him to keep us during the night.
  • In order for the work to be done successfully and safely, we must also, first of all, ask God for blessings and help for the upcoming work, and upon completion, thank God.
  • To express our feelings towards God and His saints, the Church has given us various prayers.
  • COMMON PRAYERS

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

This prayer is called the initial prayer because it is said before other prayers, at the beginning of the prayers. In this prayer, we ask God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, that is, the Most Holy Trinity, to invisibly bless us for the upcoming work in His name.

  1. God bless!
  2. This prayer is said at the beginning of every task.
  3. Lord have mercy!

Have mercy - means be merciful, forgive. This prayer is one of the oldest and common to all Christians. Pronounced when we remember our sins. For the glory of the Holy Trinity, this prayer is said three times. It is pronounced 12 times, asking God for a blessing for every hour of the day and night; 40 times, for the sanctification of our entire life.

  • God bless
  • A prayer is said at the end of the task as a sign of gratitude to God for His mercies.
  • PRAYER TO THE LORD JESUS

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, prayers for the sake of Your Most Pure Mother and all the saints, have mercy on us. Amen.

  1. Realizing our sinfulness and not relying on the power of our prayers, in this prayer we ask you to pray for us sinners, before our Savior, all the saints and the Mother of God, who has the special grace to save us sinners through Her intercession for us before Her Son.
  2. PRAYER TO THE HOLY SPIRIT
  3. Heavenly King, Comforter, Soul of truth, who is everywhere and fulfills everything, treasure of good things and Giver of life, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all filth, and save, O Good One, our souls.
  4. In this prayer we pray to the Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Holy Trinity.
  5. PRAYERS TO THE HOLY TRINITY

Glory to the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

We do not ask God for anything in this prayer, but only glorify Him, who appeared to people in three Persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, to whom now and forever belongs the same honor of glorification.

Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us; Lord, cleanse our sins; Master, forgive our iniquities; Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities, for Thy name's sake.

This prayer is one of petition. In it we turn first to all three Persons together, and then to each Person of the Trinity separately: to God the Father, so that He may cleanse our sins; to God the Son, so that He may forgive our iniquities; to God the Holy Spirit, so that He may visit and heal our infirmities.

LORD'S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven! Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done as it is in heaven and on earth. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors .And lead us not into temptation. But deliver us from evil.

For Yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

This prayer is called the Lord’s Prayer because the Lord Jesus Christ Himself gave it to His disciples when they asked Him to teach them how to pray. Therefore, this prayer is the most important prayer of all. In this prayer we turn to God the Father, the first Person of the Holy Trinity.

  • PRAYERS OF THE MOTHER OF GOD
  • Virgin Mary, Rejoice, Blessed Mary, the Lord is with You, blessed are You among women, and blessed is the fruit of Your womb, for You have given birth to the Savior of our souls.
  • This prayer is to the Most Holy Theotokos, whom we call grace-filled, that is, filled with the grace of the Holy Spirit, and blessed of all women, because our Savior Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was pleased, or desired, to be born from Her.

It is worthy to eat as truly to bless Thee, Theotokos, ever-blessed and most immaculate and Mother of our God. We magnify You, the most honorable cherub and the most glorious seraphim without comparison, who gave birth to God the Word without corruption.

In this prayer, we praise the Mother of God as the Mother of our God, always blessed and completely immaculate, and we magnify Her, saying that with Her honor and glory She surpasses the highest angels: the cherubim and seraphim, that is, the Mother of God in her perfections stands above all - not only people, but also holy angels. Without illness, she miraculously gave birth to Jesus Christ from the Holy Spirit, who, having become man from Her, is at the same time the Son of God who came down from heaven, and therefore She is the true Mother of God.

  1. Most Holy Theotokos, save us!
  2. In this prayer, we ask the Mother of God to save us sinners with Her holy prayers before Her Son and our God.
  3. PRAYER TO THE GUARDIAN ANGEL

Angel of God, my guardian, holy and, given to me from God from heaven, I diligently pray to you: enlighten me today, and save me from all evil, guide me to good deeds and direct me on the path of salvation. Amen.

At baptism, God gives every Christian a Guardian Angel, who invisibly protects a person from all evil. Every day we must ask the angel to protect and have mercy on us.

PRAYER TO THE SAINT

Pray to God for me, holy (holy) Name, as I diligently resort to you, the quick helper and prayer book (quick helper and prayer book) for my soul.

Every Christian, as soon as he is born into the light of God, at holy baptism, is given a saint as a helper and patron by the Holy Church.

He takes care of the newborn like the most loving mother, and protects him from all the troubles and misfortunes that a person encounters on earth.

It is necessary to know the day of remembrance in the year of your saint (your name day), to know the life of this saint. On his name day, you need to glorify him with prayer in church and take holy communion.

PRAYER FOR THE LIVING

Save, Lord, and have mercy on my spiritual name, my parents, my relatives, mentors and benefactors, and all Orthodox Christians.

We must think not only about ourselves, but also about other people, love them and pray to God for them, because we are all children of one Heavenly Father. Such prayers are useful not only for those for whom we pray, but also for ourselves, since we thereby show love for them. And the Lord told us that without love no one can be children of God.

  • PRAYER FOR THE DEAD
  • Rest, O Lord, the souls of the departed servants of Your Name and all my departed relatives and benefactors, and forgive them all their sins, voluntary and involuntary, and grant them the kingdom of heaven.
  • MORNING PRAYER

Venerable Sergei of Radonezh

It has long been customary to turn to the patron saints for help in important matters. Studying is no exception, and what can we say if you have to pass an exam! A strong prayer for good luck in the exam will give you confidence in your knowledge, calm you down, and give you emotional balance.

As a child, Saint Sergei could not master reading and writing. One day an unfamiliar elder came to him, who, after having lunch at his parents’ house, ordered the boy to read a prayer. Sergei, who had not been able to read a word before, began to read quickly and correctly. So, the prayer service helped the boy in his studies, and from then on he began to read a prayer to Sergei of Radonezh for success in his studies.

They ask the Reverend for help in studying and attracting good luck in exams with these words:

“O sacred head, Reverend and God-bearing Father Sergius, by your prayer, and by faith, and by love for God, and by the purity of your heart, you have established your soul on earth in the monastery of the Most Holy Trinity, and have been granted angelic communion and the visitation of the Most Holy Theotokos, and the gift of miraculous grace received, after your departure from the earthly, you came closer to God, and partook of the Heavenly Powers, but also did not retreat from us with the spirit of your love and your honest power, like a vessel of grace full and overflowing, left to us! Having great boldness towards the All-Merciful Master, pray to save His servants, His grace existing in you, believing and flowing to you with love.

Ask us from our great God for every gift that is beneficial to everyone, observance of the immaculate faith, strengthening of our cities, peace, and deliverance from famine and destruction, preservation from the invasion of foreigners, consolation for the afflicted, healing for the sick, restoration for the fallen, and for those who are led astray on the path of truth. and return of salvation, strengthening for those who strive, prosperity and blessing for those who do good in good deeds, education for infants, instruction for the young, admonition for the ignorant, intercession for orphans and widows, departing from this temporary life for the eternal, good preparation and guidance, for those who have departed, blessed repose, and all of us who help you through your prayers, on the day of the Last Judgment, the last part will be delivered, and the right hand of the country will be partakers and hear the blessed voice of the Lord Christ: come, blessed of My Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. Amen".

However, it should be remembered that in teaching, as in work, the Almighty and the Intercessors help those who themselves strive to achieve their goals. One should not rely too much on God’s mercy alone; one must study and work hard oneself.

And if it is customary in your family to turn to any Saint, be sure to follow it, because all holy intercessors have representation before the Lord. This means that a sincere request will give the desired help. In addition, they turn to Bishop Mitrofan of Voronezh, Blessed Xenia of St. Petersburg, Nikolai Ugodnik, and Matrona of Moscow for help in their studies.

What every Orthodox Christian should know about the Creed prayer

In fact, the Creed is not a prayer at all, since it does not contain appeals to God or saints. This is a text consisting of 12 parts (dogmas) and includes the basic truths that every believer needs to know.

How did the Creed come about?

The word “symbol” in its original meaning was understood as “that which unites.” Therefore, the Creed served and serves to unite all Christian believers.

A creed is a brief description of an entire creed. It talks about God the Father, God the Son and the Holy Spirit, the Virgin Mary, the Church and Baptism, the resurrection of the dead and eternal life.

At first, the Creed was created to prepare a person for baptism.

When Christianity was just in its infancy, mostly adults came to be baptized, and the Creed helped them understand its essence and meaning, and learn their obligations in connection with its acceptance.

The new convert had to learn the text by heart and then read it aloud in front of those around him. This happened on the eve of Easter; it was on this day that people were baptized in the old days.

Previously, different churches had their own creed. However, in 325 in the city of Nicaea, the first Ecumenical Council approved a common Creed for all believers. At the second council it was supplemented. In 431 in Ephesus, at the third Ecumenical Council, in order to avoid further disputes, a resolution was adopted according to which it was now forbidden to add anything to the existing Creed.

Since then, the Creed has remained unchanged.

Contents of the Creed

The Creed begins with the verb “I believe.” According to the Church, this is the most important, defining word in the text. Believe in the religious sense does not mean “to know” or “to think” or “to be sure,” since these words refer only to obvious things.

Faith is connected with what is not at all obvious and does not need proof. By saying “I believe,” a person who is undergoing the sacrament of baptism shows that he accepts with all his heart and soul everything that will be said below and does not doubt a single word.

After the verb “I believe” comes a list of all the aspects that a true Christian should believe in. Namely: the fact that God created everything living and nonliving on Earth; that Jesus Christ was born of God and the Virgin Mary and appeared on Earth in human form in order to save people; that Jesus has risen and that resurrection awaits all deceased Christians.

When is the Creed read?

As we have already said, the Creed is read during baptism. It is also sung at one of the most important Christian services - the liturgy - and is included in the daily morning prayer rule. But, of course, it can be read at any other time. Just so that in the bustle of the world a person comes to his senses and reminds himself of what he believes in.

Levels of the religious pyramid

First level. The hierarchy was headed by Gods who controlled global situations: wars, weather disasters, birth and death.

Second level. In second place were the Gods, who patronized local affairs. They were prayed for good luck in farming, fishing, hunting and crafts.

Third level. At the last step in the Slavic hierarchical pyramid there were entities that vaguely resembled the human form. They did not turn to kikimoras, goblins and mermaids with requests, but defended themselves from them with the help of prayers.

Over time, the development of human civilization led to the development and improvement of religion, the emergence of new beliefs and movements.

But it is still impossible to draw clear conclusions: the development of civilization ensured the strengthening of religion or, on the contrary, belief was the key to progress. Today, the main goal of religion, along with prayers, is to understand the world, to find meaning in random events (natural disasters, death, etc.). Communicating with higher powers, a person seeks help and support, entrusts his destiny into the hands of the Higher Powers.

Important! An Orthodox Christian needs to pray always, and not only in cases when he needs something. It is in prayer that dialogue with God occurs.

Orthodox prayers for all occasions that help

As soon as a person has trouble or misfortune, he immediately remembers God and prayers. This is our nature. That is why there was a saying among the people: “Until thunder strikes, a man will not cross himself.” Every believer should have prayers prepared in advance for all occasions, so that they can immediately ask heaven for help.

My neighbor, a churchgoer, advises everyone to buy a Prayer Book and follow the prayer rule every day. But something constantly prevents us from leading a correct church life. That’s why various unforeseen situations happen that take you by surprise. Today I want to share with you basic Orthodox prayers that will help in various everyday situations.

Types of prayers

Find out what awaits you today - Horoscope for today for all zodiac signs

Prayer is a conversation between a believer and God and angels, holy ascetics and miracle workers.

Of course, Orthodox texts were created in Church Slavonic, because they are very ancient, but the psalms can be read in a modern translation into Russian. This makes the situation a little easier to understand what we are talking about.

However, the church fathers assure that the essence of prayer is not in understanding words, but in faith.

Types of prayers:

  • repentant;
  • petitions;
  • thanksgiving;
  • laudatory.

Before making requests, be sure to read a prayer of repentance. For example, you can read Psalm No. 50 three times; it is precisely one of repentance.

Due to numerous requests from readers, we have prepared an “Orthodox Calendar” application for smartphones. Every morning you will receive information about the current day: holidays, fasts, days of remembrance, prayers, parables. Download for free: Orthodox Calendar 2021 (available on Android)

After petitionary prayers, you must certainly read laudatory prayers. These include magnifications and akathists. And after fulfilling the request, they certainly read prayers of gratitude or thank them in their own words from the bottom of their hearts. Also thanksgiving is a candle lit near the image of a saint or Savior.

3 Main Orthodox prayers for all occasions

There are 3 prayers that every Orthodox Christian should know. You can read them in any situation, they always help. You just need to read them with faith in your soul and with a pure heart. It is advisable to memorize these prayers, especially the creed. You need to know the “Our Father” prayer by heart, like the multiplication table: it was commanded by the Savior himself and written down in the Gospel.

Our Father

This prayer of prayers is for every Christian. It can be read in any language - Church Slavonic or translated into modern Russian. You need to put your whole soul into these words, because you are addressing the very Creator of life. It is also known as the Lord's Prayer.

In Church Slavonic:

These words teach the Christian that he is not just a creature, but a son of God. We come to him as to a father. The clergy instruct the flock that the text of the appeal to the Lord is divided into 3 parts. In the first we turn to the Heavenly Father. The second part contains 7 requests:

  1. Hallowed be your name. Here Christians ask for a godly life that glorifies the name of God.
  2. Thy kingdom come. Here believers express hope for a future life in the palace of God.
  3. Thy will be done. Here Orthodox Christians ask that their lives be controlled in order to live them according to the will of God.
  4. Daily bread. Here Christians express the hope that the Father will not leave them without the most necessary things.
  5. And forgive us our debts. Here we are talking about the forgiveness of sins.
  6. And do not lead us into temptation. Please strengthen your faith and trust in God.
  7. But deliver us from evil. We are talking about the enemy's power - the devil.

In the third and final part of the prayer, the kingdom of God and its power are glorified and affirmed.

Mother of God

This is the second important prayer that every Orthodox Christian must know. Seraphim of Sarov recommended reading it continuously from noon to evening.

The short words of the prayer appeal are easy to remember, but you need to say them in your mind - not out loud.

Constant reading of the Mother of God will protect you from sinful thoughts, harmonize a person’s internal state, and relieve you from temptations.

  • The word “gracious” means that the mother of Christ received special grace to give birth and raise the Savior of the world.
  • Blessed among women means glorified among all the women of the world.
  • For you gave birth to the Savior of our souls - you gave birth to the one who saves our souls.
  • This short prayer is composed of the words of the gospel: when the Archangel Gabriel came to Mary and when she came to her relative, the mother of John the Baptist.

Symbol of faith

This prayer is read by all parishioners together with the priest at every liturgy. The symbol of faith is the basis of the Christian faith; without it, belonging to Christianity becomes doubtful. With these words, Christians proclaim what they believe and worship.

Daily prayers for every Orthodox believer - Philosophy

Prayer accompanies an Orthodox Christian throughout his life, because in this way he can bring himself at least a little closer to God, cleanse his sins through repentance, and thank the Creator for His daily great mercies.

At first, daily Orthodox prayer seems like a lot of work, sometimes you even have to force yourself to take up the prayer book, but over time, turning to the Lord becomes a need of the soul.

This happens, as a rule, after many years of spiritual life, but beginning Christians can read the main daily prayers, having agreed on their composition with the priest.

It is the confessor who finally approves the daily prayer rule for each specific person, taking into account his age, the length of time he has been going to church, and his internal reserve of spiritual strength.

Orthodox prayers for every day of the month

What prayers should all Orthodox people read every day of the year? Whatever rule the priest prescribes, it will always include several basic Christian prayers for each day of the week. First of all, this is the Trisagion (prayer to the Holy Trinity), the Symbol of Faith, Our Father, Virgin Mary, Rejoice, prayer to the Guardian Angel, prayer to your saint.

The daily morning rule of prayer also necessarily includes the remembrance of relatives and friends, living and dead, friends and enemies, those who hate and offend us.

In evening prayers every day we thank God for the day we have lived. We ask forgiveness for sins committed intentionally and involuntarily, for the peace and health of loved ones.

In addition to prayers, the daily Orthodox prayer rule may include reading the Gospel and various spiritual books.

Daily prayers for children, the sick and tired

People often have a question: how to pray if you are sick, very tired at work, and don’t even have the strength for the usual daily prayers? The answer is simple - God does not require us to perform feats beyond our naked strength.

If your health does not allow it, then you can listen to the recorded prayers for each day, closing your eyes, and trying to delve into the text of everyday Orthodox prayers. If even this is difficult, read a couple of prayers to yourself while lying in bed.

Ask God for your household, for your friends. All this will not take much time or effort.

As you recover, listening to your body, you can gradually return to your usual daily prayer rule for the Orthodox.

Read the text of the Orthodox prayer for every day - Our Father

Our Father. Like you are in heaven! Hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done as it is in heaven and on earth; Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, just as we forgive our debtors; and do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one; For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Read the text of the daily Orthodox prayer for the remission of sins

From the depths of my soul I cry to you, Lord, on this day. With tears I fall to You and exclaim: be merciful and philanthropic to me, who places my hope only in You! Grant me to avoid Your future wrath, which threatens all the wicked. Destroy my fruitless thoughts with the fire of your Holy Spirit.

Do not give me as straw as food to the fire, but gather me like wheat, O my God! Accept the prayer of my unclean lips, my sinless Savior! You are Almighty, deliver me from my iniquities! I rejected Your life-giving commandments, I was tempted by vile vices.

I beg You, my Lord, who created me according to Your will and for no reason loved me to such an extent that for my sake You became incarnate and suffered death! I forgot your boundless love, became a slave of pleasures, desecrated my soul and body, I repent of my sins every day - and do not stop committing them.

You, Father, have your beginningless Son, you have your co-eternal Spirit, giving everyone the breath of life.

Triune God, filled with generosity and goodness, through the prayers of our Most Pure Lady Theotokos, through the prayers of the prophets, apostles, martyrs and saints, grant me remission of my sins, for You are philanthropic and abundantly merciful, and all honor and worship is due to You now, always and forever centuries. Amen.

A short daily prayer to the Holy Spirit

Holy soul! Fill the entire universe with yourself, and give life to everyone, but move away from bad people, I humbly pray to Thee: do not disdain the uncleanness of my soul, but come and dwell in me and cleanse me from all sinful filth. With Your help, I will live the rest of my life in repentance and doing good deeds, and thus I will glorify You with the Father and the Son forever and ever. Amen.

Orthodox daily prayer to the Holy Spirit

Heavenly King, Comforter, Soul of Truth. Who art everywhere and fulfill all things, Treasure of good things and life to the Giver, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all filth, and save, O Blessed One, our souls.

Daily prayer to the Blessed Virgin Mary

Most Holy Theotokos, save us! I entrust the intercession and protection of my life to Thee, the Virgin Mary. You feed me to Your refuge, the good one, the affirmation of the faithful, the One All-Singing One. Most Holy Theotokos, save us!

I pray, Virgin, to destroy the storm of my spiritual confusion and sorrow: You, O Blessed One of God, gave birth to the ruler of the silence of Christ, the only Most Pure One. Glory: Having given birth to a benefactor, to a guilty one, to pour out wealth of good deeds to all, for we are able to do everything, as having given birth to the mighty one in the strength of Christ, O blessed One.

And now: To those who are tormented by fierce ailments and painful passions, O Virgin, help me: for the inexhaustible healing I know You is a treasure, Immaculate, inexhaustible. Save Thy servants from troubles, Mother of God, For we all, according to God, resort to Thee, as to an unbreakable wall and intercession.

Look with mercy, O all-sung Mother of God, on my fierce body and heal the illness of my soul.

Orthodox prayer for every day - May God rise again

May God rise again, and may His enemies be scattered, and may those who hate Him flee from His presence.

As smoke disappears, let them disappear; As wax melts in the face of fire, so let demons perish from the presence of those who love God, and those who sign the sign of the cross, and who say in joy: Rejoice, Most Honorable and Life-Giving Cross of the Lord, drive away the demons by the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, who descended into hell, and trampled down the power of the devil, and gave us to you, Your Honest Cross, to drive away every adversary. Oh, Most Honest and Life-Giving Cross of the Lord, help me with the Holy Lady the Virgin Mary and with all the saints forever. Amen.
