The psalm can be sung in church and at home. It is necessary to read the Psalter with a lit lamp. If this is not possible, then you don’t have to follow this rule. The only requirement is to read it thoughtfully and carefully, correctly emphasizing Old Church Slavonic words. The psalm itself can be read while sitting, and when pronouncing the Glory, you can rise. When reading sacred texts, one should not forget about the thanksgiving psalm 149.
Text of Psalm 103 “Bless my soul the Lord”:
Bless, my soul, the Lord, and all that is within me, His holy name. Bless the Lord, my soul, and do not forget all His rewards, who cleanses all your iniquities, heals all your ailments, delivers your belly from corruption, crowns you with mercy and bounty, fulfills your desire for good: your youth will be renewed like an eagle. The Lord grant alms and destiny to all those who are offended. Moses told His way to the sons of Israel His desires: The Lord is generous and merciful, long-suffering and abundantly merciful. He is not completely angry, he is at enmity forever, he did not create food for us because of our iniquities, but he rewarded us with food because of our sins. As the height of heaven from the earth, the Lord established His mercy on those who feared Him. The east is far removed from the west, and our iniquities have been removed from us. As a father gives generously to his sons, the Lord will provide for those who fear Him. As we know our creation, I will remember, as the dust of Esma. Man, like the grass of his days, like the flower of the field, will bloom like the spirit that has passed through him, and he will not be, and no one will know his place. The mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear Him, and His righteousness is on the sons of sons, who keep His covenant and remember His commandments to do. The Lord has prepared His Throne in Heaven, and His Kingdom possesses everyone. Bless the Lord, all His angels, mighty in strength, who do His word, to hear the voice of His words. Bless the Lord, all His might, His servants who do His will. Bless the Lord, all His works, in every place of His dominion, bless them, my soul. Gentlemen.
God bless you!

In this video you will hear church singing of chapter 102 of the Psalter:
History of writing
Researchers leave the authorship to King David, who describes not the happiest times in the life of the Jewish people. The prayer is dedicated to the return of the Israelis to their homeland. Many years ago, Jerusalem was destroyed by the Babylonians and God's people were captured.
For the realities of that time, war was a way to find a place to live, and Palestine was famous for its abundant lands and favorable climate. And so, when they left the place of punishment, they arrived in Jerusalem and saw ruins in its place. And then David prayed to the Lord for the salvation of the souls of his people, who were left without a home and the holy grace of God. The psalm is considered a brief description of the events of the past time of the liberation of the Jews.
Hieromonk Roman. Don't rely on princes...
Power is God's property: blessing or permission. The first or second is determined by responsibility or irresponsibility before God and the people.
Moses shied away from God's direct command to govern his people, realizing the great responsibility he would have to accept along with God-given authority.
But we do not live in Old Testament times to think in Old Testament categories. What responsibility? What people? Who needs it? Far-sighted bureaucratic eyes look several years ahead, peering into the upcoming elections. Until that exciting time, people are a burden for them.
The New Testament Moses do not raise their eyes to the Old Testament heights; by hook or by crook they rush to the galleys: to lay down their sacrificial souls for the people.
Once, before the elections, I was driving through Pskov. At the ends of five-story buildings hung photographs of those with double or triple chins eager to become servants of the people. Apparently, they could no longer get a fourth chin the same way. Then these rogues will pass (as we know, rogues do not pass) and will become legislators...
For more than one day, France was shaken by protests of many thousands - the authorities wiped their feet on the people by adopting the Sodom law. Frau Germany barks at Russia to the detriment of her country. The one from the barracks, against the will of the people, sends zombified warriors to be slaughtered in different countries. Greece, Bulgaria, and Moldova are in a fever from lawless laws.
They write from fraternal Serbia: “The hypocrisy, inability and disloyalty of Serbian leaders towards their own people goes beyond all limits. The scoundrels sold the country and the people, as if we were slaves, as if we were cattle! Our shameful legal system and our shameful court agree with The Hague that the Croats did not commit genocide against the Serbs when they drove the Serbs out of their country and homes, when NATO fighters in the middle of Belgrade, next to the hospital in the Senjak area, shot a company of recruits and burned the entire maternity hospital! They don't talk about it. NATO is our friend! Have these people really gone crazy if they lie so blatantly? Where are we alive?”
The rulers of almost all countries, as if conspiring to get into the idiotic Guinness book, rushed to compete to see who would do the most dirty tricks to their people. Amazing thing, everyone succeeded!
The generosity of our rulers is amazing. Protecting their wallets, they left and right forgive millions and billions of debts to foreign countries near and far, without forgetting to invest nothing in a dying village and constantly raise prices for everything that comes under their caring hand for the people.
The rulers proudly profess themselves to be liberals, democrats (the same white-ribbon people!), stand up for “European values,” cling to “partners” who spit on them, expand their (and their grown-up children’s) pockets, live for the sake of the world and the white-ribbon good. Look who represents Great Russia in the field of economics and culture? White ribbons. Who do the rulers associate with? With them too. Who is in the Public Chamber? They are. Whose “beloved-desired” physis (the soul has a face, struggling with passions, the Face always shines in it) do we see in the New Year’s “Spark”, turned into Satan’s ball? So it turns out that in Tel Aviv we are seeing only the body and tail of the fifth column - the white-ribbon parasite: the head is in the White House. “The Head” doesn’t know that laws and public platforms (theatres, cinemas, television, radio, print) are obliged to encourage people to moral and physical health?
Why should people walk around the squares, knock on the doorsteps of officials, collect signatures, persuading the “galley slaves” to preserve what they have collected for centuries, protect children, not destroy the family, medicine, education, protect morality, not poison them with cheap alcohol, tobacco, chemistry, GMO products, Sodomy parades, black stuff on screens and stages, not to allow Christ-sellers to spit in the holy, healthy, destroying the people's soul? Isn’t this the direct responsibility of the “guarantors”? Was it not for the sake of fulfilling their direct duties that they were voted for? Why do they care about anyone, anything, but not about their people? Who and what, besides mammon, bankers and oligarchs, do the people's representatives serve?
Velia Joy from the White House: “... I’m glad that the films won prizes at the most prestigious international festivals, and a number of films became box office leaders.”
How can the Russian White House rejoice at Russophobic films and prizes? Confused about the White Houses?
“This speaks both to the effectiveness of the new principles of state support for our cinema, and to your professionalism and responsible attitude to the matter.”
I’ll make a reservation right away. I didn't watch the bad movie. For what? Desecrate your hearing with obscenities from a second-rate “Canadian”, and your sight with prodigal pictures? The director covers up the story of the modern Noah-Fatherland and the corrupt son Ham with the biblical Job. The “responsibility” is just off the charts. But still. Who rejoices at Russia's shame? Enemy. What if he lives in Russia, and even walks around in “heads”? A traitor to the Motherland (or a blind man who sees nothing).
What and who should be surprised? A man who cheerfully pollutes the air and brains at various gatherings with meaningless “investments,” “innovations,” and other verbal fluff, could not say otherwise. After he rushed to St. Petersburg for an autograph from an English sodomite, everything was clear with him - he showed himself in all his glory. There is no trust or respect for him.
The unworthy behavior of would-be politicians, humiliating Russia, was also noticed by others: “Ten years ago, on the eve of the 60th anniversary of the Victory, we considered it necessary to “demonstrate good will” in relation to those who for the second decade mocked the feat of the peoples of the USSR, who called our fathers were war criminals, who dared to demand some kind of “compensation” from us and put forward territorial claims. And these were not just gestures, but real political and economic concessions. And then they were invited to our memorial celebration. It was then that they believed that they were allowed everything in relations with Russia - even to trample on what is most dear to us. Why are the presidents of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia being invited to Moscow today for May 9th?! Why do we need them at our holiday with tears in our eyes? Did you want to receive their boorish refusal? Got. But why did you do this? (Mikhail Demurin. “Don’t retreat!” Literaturnaya Gazeta.)
I'll digress a little. Once in Minsk I was watching a parade on Red Square on TV. The American president and Russian government officials, together with the furniture minister of defense, sat (!) “received” the parade. “Even Stalin did not allow himself such disrespect for the defenders of the Fatherland! The military parade has been turned into a show!” — the Belarusians said with indignation. It was a shame for those who rule Great Russia.
However, why should a simple hieromonk write about this, who can be accused of violating the canons, of pride, disrespect for authorities (in fact, I can’t for the reasons given above) and of all mortal sins? Are there no archpastors, spiritual fathers, who reward, congratulate, and meet with, communicating on short terms? I would not have touched upon the politicians who care about themselves if I had not heard the voice of the archpastor. I heard and sighed: an official from the Church was of one mind in assessing the ugliness with an official from the authorities. Amazing unanimity amid nationwide silence!
“˝In response to a request to evaluate the film directed by Andrei Zvyagintsev “Leviathan,” I inform you that I have a positive attitude towards this film, I liked it. The film is honest,” said the Bishop.”
Bolt from the blue is not so surprising. What is stopping you from gathering priests with their wives and children into the diocese and pleasing your flock with the pornographic honesty of the “masterpiece”?
“Regarding the ban on the film, which is what you are asking about, I think this should not be done. The swearing that is referred to in this case, unfortunately, has become our shameful reality, and there is no more of it in the film than in life, so there’s no point in being hypocritical.”
It’s scary to imagine what initiatives the bishop’s lips are proposing. Down with hypocrisy! Enough with drawing and painting the walls of latrines, it’s time to transfer obscene drawings and inscriptions to the walls of corridors and classrooms. There is no need for subdeacons to be hypocrites either - let them swear honestly while robing their Eminence. Green road to gay pride parades: “why should we be hypocritical?” they are still sinning somewhere. Here comes heavy artillery to the aid of the false enlightenment signatories...
“The film, of course, has a negative impact. In addition to the shame of swearing, what is terribly depressing is the vodka-vodka-vodka, which is spilling everywhere. Hostility is also caused by individuals, for example, mayor Vadim Mikhailovich, the judicial “collegium” and even the metropolitan. However, overall the film is inspiring because it points out the vital problems of the country as gaping wounds in the body from which it decomposes, suffers and dies.”
To whom does the film that inspired the archpastor show the gaping wounds? Doctor-rulers? Or are the wounds exposed to the world for mockery and gloating that Russia is “decaying, suffering and dying”?
“Serious healing is needed.”
They heal in closed rooms, and not in European and American Russophobic squares, and not with the help of those who rub their hands with joy that the world is viewing the wounds they have inflicted.
“I am heartily grateful to the director of the film,” the Metropolitan concluded.
Give thanks for the desecration of the Motherland? It remains to award the newly-minted Ham with the Order of Merit for the Fatherland. Will “heartfelt gratitude” not resonate with pain in the hearts of the flock who loves the Motherland?
If we want to survive, we must distinguish good from evil and stand for the Truth to the death, regardless of faces.
“Do not trust in princes, in the sons of men, for in them there is no salvation.”
By God, by God! Apart from You, the Most Holy Theotokos and all the saints, we have no one to rely on.

Interpretation
The prayer carries great meaning, for the punishment of the Jews was over, and they were allowed to return to the foothills of their homeland. To understand the meaning in detail, it is recommended to analyze each verse of the psalm.
- Verse 1-2. The work begins with the praise of the Lord and his miracles. It is important for the author to stretch out his hands to the sky and praise the beloved God and his deeds.
- Verse 3-6. People are inherently weak. They are mortal, their faith may be shaken. They can find protection and support only in the service of the Lord. God, in turn, will never leave his slaves, guiding them along the true path with a firm hand.
- Verse 7-10. And although the Hand of the Lord punishes sinners, it also protects the righteous. It was the Creator who allowed the Jews to escape Babylonian slavery. It was he who gave them a chance to be reborn and atone for their past and future sins.
The meaning of the psalm
Most of the texts were compiled by King David, and a small part by the followers of Asaph, Solomon the son of David, Moses and others. King David was a sinner like all people on earth; he desired the wife of his subject, which he repented of in the fiftieth psalm. This is probably why the awareness of the sinfulness of one’s actions was the reason for writing 102 texts and its wonderful musical performance.
The Psalter includes one hundred and fifty texts and was translated into Old Church Slavonic by the brothers Cyril and Methodius in the mid-ninth century. The Charter of the Orthodox Church indicates the division of the psalter into twenty sections, which are called kathismas.
It is believed that singing a psalm illuminates with love, strengthens the spirit, influences fate, and helps solve life’s issues. Melodious performance with melodiousness calms the soul and gives peace.

Text 102 of the Psalter is known to every Orthodox believer; it is sung on Sundays at the beginning of the morning service in church. The singing of the psalm is festive and solemn. King David calls on everyone living on earth and in heaven to praise God, remembering his eternity and the transience of earthly life. David’s psalm “Bless my soul the Lord” should be read by people suffering from any disease, especially women with gynecological diseases, as well as for a glorious and rich family tree.
The text focuses on God's rewards:
- cleansing of sins;
- healing infirmities;
- deliverance of life from corruption;
- O philanthropy and generosity of the Lord;
- Every person has a piece of God.
The author also points to the resurrection after death and makes a comparison with the pompous and royal bird, the eagle, which, without closing its eyes, can look at the sun's radiance. He also compares a person to grass and a flower that fades, but the spirit remains. God is merciful, David claims, although Adam and Eve angered him, but he does not extend his power to the end, because he understands that humanity is his creation. The believing people and those who devote themselves to singing will be in the same position with the angels, whose service to the Lord consists of praise.
