The unusual name Timur, where did it come to us, what meaning does it carry? Today the topic of our article is Timur: the meaning of the name, character and fate that awaits a boy with this rather well-known but not very common name. We will begin, as in other articles, with the history of its origin...
Timur: exact description of a person with this name. What kind of life awaits a boy, guy, man with that name?
In this article you will learn:
Priest: Christian names should be chosen when baptizing
Question: Is it true that a person can change his name at baptism? Why is this being done? (Timur, I’m going to be baptized)
Archpriest Maxim Kozlov, professor of the Moscow Theological Academy and Seminary, answers: Yes, indeed, both the person himself, if he is baptized at a conscious age, and the parents, if they bring a baby for baptism, can change the name registered in the registry office. This happens primarily in cases where the name on the passport or baptismal certificate does not belong to the Christian tradition. For example, when Prince Vladimir Svyatoslavovich was baptized, the name Vladimir did not belong to the names of the Christian tradition, so he was baptized with the name Vasily. Just as the name Olga was also not in the calendar at that time, and the princess was baptized with the name Elena. Nowadays, this more often happens either with those names that arose in the newest historical era - Vladlen, Rem and the like. Now, fortunately, we no longer come across the names “Equilateral Triangle” or “Red Army”. When people with names from a different religious environment - usually Muslim - want to be baptized, in this case a Christian name is chosen. The principles of such selection can be different: from the memory of saints close to the day of baptism or a person’s birthday - to simply some kind of phonetic consonance of the name that a person will receive in baptism, the name that is written in his passport. For example, there are already traditionally established couples: Nelly and Natalya, Angelica and Angelina, Polina and Pelageya. A baptismal name connects a person with one or another saint, who becomes his heavenly patron, therefore, one way or another, he is chosen in the church calendar, that is, in the calendar. At the same time, it should be said that the calendars of different local Orthodox Churches are not completely identical. Here, in the Russian Orthodox Church, we do not have some names that, say, Georgians, Romanians, Bulgarians and Greeks have. In this regard, relatively recently there was an explanation from the Holy Synod that under no circumstances should priests deny sacraments, including baptism, to those people whose names belong to the Orthodox tradition, but in other local Churches. But it is still impossible to be baptized with a name that is not in the calendar - for example, with the name Muhammad.
What kind of character could the boy Timur have?
How the origin of the name Timur influenced its meaning
What character will a boy named Timur have? Now let's talk about this in more detail:
- Timur is a developed person in many areas. He enjoys reading books, communicating with interesting people, and gives the impression of being a calm, reserved and intelligent person.
- At first glance, it is impossible to piss off this person. He will remain unperturbed, even if emotions overwhelm him from within. He puts all his hidden strength into his work.
- A man with this name subtly senses the mood around him. But even if the mood is spoiled, he will remain calm outwardly. I'm used to relying only on myself.
- If you have to solve any problems, he is guided by the principle “if you want to do something well, do it yourself.” If life had not dictated its own rules, then perhaps Timur would have become a romantic person, immersed in his deep inner world.
- He has great patience. Men with this name are usually noble. They do everything possible and impossible for their family. He never gets arrogant. He's not greedy. As a rule, very charming. Friendship for Tim is not an empty word. He is always ready to help, let you into his home, feed you, warm you up, and will never demand anything in return.
The owner of the name Timur is always full of thoughts and ideas. Because of this, he constantly generates ideas and is very proactive. A memorable, bright personality.
How does your character change depending on the time of year?
Character may vary depending on the time of year a man was born.
- If he was born in the summer, he will be quite stubborn. Deep inside he will be offended by people and situations, but he will never show it in appearance. Stubbornness is a good trait that will help him achieve his goals. He will be careful. He will count everything many times and only then do it. Guided by the principle “measure twice, cut once.” It will take a long time to look for a life partner. But he will definitely find a worthy woman.
- If he was born in Winter, then all the qualities of the summer Timur can be safely doubled. Much more stubborn. It is very difficult to tolerate failures. Prudence appears, which will help a lot. He loses his temper very easily. We have to constantly fight this.
- Spring Timur is closed and sensitive. He is bad at getting out of his colorful inner world and accepting new people there. But he is creative, talented, creative. But because of this, he often cannot concentrate on one thing. He can do everything and wants to try everything. He often participates in drama clubs. He is engaged in amateur activities. Sometimes the inability to prioritize really hinders him.
- The owner of the name born in autumn, on the contrary, is very focused. His life is measured, everything is planned in advance. He always manages to do everything, having calculated in advance all possible scenarios in order to do everything right. He will never go into hell. He always thinks everything over a million times and only then makes a decision. He will never become a problem for anyone, he will never force himself on a visit, and he will not blame his problems on others. But he is always interested in the opinions of loved ones. This is not to say that this opinion becomes key; he is a man who definitely takes it into account.
What will the child named Timur be like?
What will your boy be like if you name him Timur? Now we will look at this question:
- Timur is a very active child. It is almost impossible to keep it in place. He will never settle on just one thing right away. There will be 10 amateur clubs at school, he will try everything. Moreover, he will not just sign up for them, but will be interested in learning something new.
- The enthusiasm will not fade away at the institute. All sports will be mastered, at least a little bit. Everywhere he will be mistaken for the unspoken leader. But for now, he doesn’t agree to stop at just one thing. From an early age he understands that he needs to move forward. That useful experience will help in the future.
- The child will be quite patient and diligent. Imaginative, but pragmatic. A million ideas will already be developing in his inner world, but he is still in the process of accumulating knowledge, so he often saves it for future achievements.
- In childhood, the owner of the name is prone to infectious diseases, but will outgrow this. Outwardly, boys often look like their mother, but they take on their father’s character.
- He is kind and obedient. In games, ingenuity is already evident. He easily finds a way out of any situation and copes with tasks quickly. From an early age he makes friends and takes them seriously. Sharing the most cherished things always helps. He will never become a traitor. He is laconic, but has authority.
- He has had organizational skills since childhood. He is entrusted with important tasks, and he always copes with them perfectly. He is interested not only in sports and creativity, but also in the exact sciences.
- Homework will never be a problem for him. Since he is diligent and attentive, the knowledge itself fits into his head. Because of this, he has a lot of free time, which he happily spends reading books.
High values quickly form the strong backbone of his character. Respect for elders, helping family and friends is the basis of his worldview.
Character manifests itself from childhood. He has a fairly clear idea of himself, his skills and abilities. Therefore, he does not accept comparison with other peers. He must be one and only, as he makes every effort to achieve this. And being already at this age a strong personality, he is offended by this.

The meaning of the name Timur, character and fate
The meaning of the name Timur: the name for a boy means “iron.” This affects the character and fate of Timur.
Origin of the name Timur: Arabic.
Diminutive form of the name: Timurchik, Timurka, Tim, Tima, Timochka, Timushka, Timusha, Timulya.
What does the name Timur mean: Researchers associate him with a famous historical figure - commander Tamerlane, who is the founder of the Khan dynasty of the Golden Horde. This name was revered at the same level as the royal one. They were given to every representative of the stronger half who appeared in the Khan's family. There is another version of the origin of this name. It talks about Ossetian origins. Here the meaning is interpreted as “iron Alan”.
Day of the Angel Timur: the name Timur does not mark a name day, since it is not included in the list of Catholic and Orthodox calendars.
Features of choosing an Orthodox name
The saint, after whom the newborn was named, conveys to the betrothed his qualities, some character traits and influences the fate of the baby. He intercedes for the child before the Lord throughout his entire life. The day of his memory is considered the name day for the child.
Rules for choosing a name according to the Saints
Often the name recorded on the birth certificate does not match the name given at baptism. This is largely due to ignorance of the Orthodox calendar. According to church canons, a newborn is named according to the Saints as follows:
- on the eighth day after birth, according to Memorial Day on this date;
- if a suitable option is not available, look at the memorial days of the saints on the fortieth day;
- It is allowed to give the child the name of a patron whom his family honors.
Meaning of a boy's name
The fate of a person with this name is successful. He is loved in the family and respected at work. Has many friends. His personal qualities endear him to others. Strong will and firmness of decisions help you move forward towards your cherished goal. He tries to instill these traits in his own children. Life makes tough demands on a man. But under any circumstances he remains an example to follow. When communicating with Timur, it is advisable not to forget about his unpredictability; Sometimes he himself does not know where he will be taken next moment. However, it is possible to avoid conflict with Timur. You need to try to show restraint and not lose your balance.
Marriage and family ties
Timur marries late. But the family union will be strong. With the birth of children, his character will not soften. He will be demanding of his offspring, believing that this is the right way to raise the younger generation.
Timur, who is in love, is very jealous. He won’t have to give a reason; he himself will find something to be jealous of his beloved for. The wife needs to be careful in her words and not make dubious acquaintances if she values her relationship with Timur and plans to preserve the family union. At the same time, Timur, being confident in the fidelity and devotion of his wife, will do everything possible to ensure that she lives in prosperity and luxury.
Character traits
The special meaning of the name Timur also affects his character: he is a born leader, distinguished by an enviable temperament and exuberant energy. Unfortunately, he does not always know how to control it, but if he learns to control himself, he achieves greater success in life.
Since childhood, Timur has been confident that the meaning of his name made him special, so he does not tolerate any other opinion than his own and does everything to achieve recognition from others. This quality could be called determination, if not for the way of achieving the goal: the guy is ready to literally go over their heads, proving to everyone his superiority, and everything else, including home and family, is secondary.
Since childhood, Timur has had a good memory and imagination, and his fantasy does not leave him with age, but hides behind a mask of healthy pragmatism and a sense of humor. Showing his own weakness is like humiliation for him. Few people know how vulnerable he is; on the contrary, everyone is struck by his foresight and prudence.
The secret of the name lies in Timur’s amazing sense of self-worth. The slightest blow to his pride makes him lose his temper so much that he completely loses control over himself. If a man is singled out the way he wants, the best traits of his character appear - kindness, generosity, gentleness. But if personal and real assessments differ, he can turn into a real tyrant, capable of starting a scandal over trifles.
History of Timur-Timothy
Thirteen years have passed since my godson died. In the spring, just in time for Krasnaya Gorka. And he was baptized on Easter. He was my student, lanky, with intelligent eyes. His name was Timur Dashkin. At seminars he asked me questions, there was some kind of sadness in his eyes. He suffered from blood cancer.
That year I took academic leave for health reasons. Then his mother came to me and said that Timur was rushing between Orthodoxy and Islam and wanted to talk to me.
His family was religiously ordinary for today's Russia. His father and sister believed that “being a Tatar means he is a Muslim,” and his mother was a “beginning” Christian.
Timur came and we talked for a long time. I told him that I would not drag him into Orthodoxy, because I had no right to take advantage of his illness. He asked:
– What do you personally think is wrong with me?
I said that the Lord put before him the question of a terrible illness as a CHOICE: Baptism into Christ will either give him a long and interesting life, or a death free from sins. I told him about the concept of “sickness leading to death” among Christians.
He either smiled at my jokes or grimaced in pain. He suffered a lot. We said goodbye well and he left. A few days later his mother called and said that he had decided to be baptized. I consulted with my confessor, and he gave his blessing to be baptized on Easter itself. And we began to prepare, fortunately it was Lent.
Timur was baptized by Father Ilya Siraziev on Easter Saturday. There were only three of us in the St. Nicholas chapel of the Church of the Exaltation of the Cross. Father Elijah first took him to confess, and Timur, to my embarrassment, loudly answered his questions, as if confessing to the whole world. Then Baptism began, the priest read prayers, I sang quietly. After the ceremony of renouncing Satan, Father Elijah, sensing some doubt and confusion in Timur’s soul, suddenly began to ask:
- Do you deny Krishna, psychics, yoga, sectarians, Mohammed... - and began to list an unimaginable number of human misconceptions.
At the word “Mohammed” Timur shuddered. For so long they perceived Islam as “a possible religion based on nationality.” As if sensing this, Father Elijah (himself a Tatar) looked at him and repeated again:
– Do you deny Mohammed?
Timur's eyes flashed, and he said firmly:
- I deny.
– Are you united with Christ?
- I match.
Father Elijah blessed me to read the Apostle at Baptism, and then I had to shudder: the word “death” sounded every two words - “and being baptized into Jesus, we are baptized into His death”...
From my lips this did not sound very encouraging to the ill Timur.
When Timur undressed for the dive, it became scary: he looked like a living corpse
When Timur undressed for the dive, it became scary: the body of this two-meter twenty-year-old youth was withered, gray-ochre in color, and a permanent catheter for blood transfusion was inserted into his chest. He looked like a living corpse.
Father Elijah led him into the baptismal font and began pouring holy water from a bucket: “The servant of God Timothy is baptized in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen".
Timur began to be shaken, but when he came out of the font, out of joy I blurted out right in his face: “Christ is risen!” He smiled and answered jubilantly: “Truly he is risen!”
The Holy Gifts were not in the St. Nicholas chapel, and Father Elijah went to give him communion in the main chapel, the Exaltation of the Cross chapel, right at the altar.
Timur returned from there joyful. I photographed them as a souvenir: I gave him, his mother and father Elijah an icon of the miraculous image of Christ.
He returned to the hospital.
Easter joys overwhelmed me for a whole week, and I only remembered Timur on Fomina’s Wednesday. I called him on his mobile phone, he answered in a heavy voice, he felt bad. The first days after Baptism he felt great and began to eat well. But then they did another course of chemotherapy, and he began to feel bad again. I encouraged him and advised him to read the Gospel.
These days he became somehow firm and calm. His mother, who was with him in the hospital all the time and was surprised at her son, was uneasy. Here he stands at the window and looks down thoughtfully. The mother thinks: she will throw herself out of the window now to end all her suffering at once. He suddenly turns and, as if hearing her thoughts, says:
- No, mom, I won’t commit suicide, suicide is a terrible sin.
Or he says unexpectedly:
– How nice it would be to see your coach (he played basketball).
The mother, who went out into the city, accidentally runs into a coach near the hospital, who was urgently sent on a business trip to Tyumen, and he was staying at the Kolos hotel, next to the regional hospital where Timur was lying. They talked for a couple of hours, and the coach left his student, amazed by the strength of his spirit and perseverance in the face of a terrible illness.
Timur was getting worse, he prayed. In his room lay an old man, he had the same illness as Timur, he scolded and cursed the doctors and nurses in pain. Timur looked at him and smiled:
- No, this one won’t die soon, he doesn’t understand anything yet.
And indeed, this elderly patient was soon discharged from the hospital home, he felt better.
On Saturday before the week of the Myrrh-Bearing Women, I spent the whole day on television editing a film about Timofey Pavlovich Kuzin, and only at about 18.30 did I find myself at home. I had just prepared dinner for myself and sat down to eat when my newspaper colleague Kostya Memyachkin knocked on the door.
“Timur is dying, ten minutes left,” he blurted out.
- Why does he die and why exactly ten minutes? – I asked stupidly.
– His mother called and said that he wants to say goodbye to you, Miroslav Yuryevich, and that the doctors give him no more than ten minutes.
We quickly got ready and reached the regional hospital in just ten minutes. His mother was waiting for us downstairs. We went up to the seventh floor. She once quickly asked the doctors:
- That's it, right? Is it already?
“Yes, about ten minutes ago,” they answered us.
I approached Timur, he was lying dead on the bed in the corridor. His huge body did not fit on the short bed, and his legs rested unnaturally against the wooden wall.
His eyes rolled back, I tried to close them, his whole body was dark brown. I touched it - it was warm, even hot. His soul had just left the temple of his body.
I crossed him and kissed him on the forehead. I stood and prayed. I was so confident that he would survive that I didn’t even take a prayer book with me.
His mother said that before her death she began to lament why God was taking him away from her. He told her firmly:
- Mom, there is a God, you pray.
A little later he felt really bad, he began to ask:
- Mom, pray. Pray louder,” apparently, he was already leaving; his mother’s words came to him more and more muffled.
And again:
- Mom, pray louder.
Then he suddenly calmed down, his face became calm and bright, he said:
“Amen, amen, amen,” and lost consciousness.
Here is the mystery of death, the Lord hides the very moment of death from people. Mother only left Timur for a moment to meet us, and he died.
I prayed near his body and suddenly felt that his soul was nearby, the Lord was holding it in His hands
I prayed near his still warm body and suddenly I felt with my whole being that his soul was nearby, and it was not alone, the Lord was holding it in His hands.
Timur was baptized, confessed and received communion on Holy Saturday, April 26. He died on May 10 at 19.15 in the intensive care unit of the regional hospital.
He was 20 years old.
The next day, in the Nikolsky chapel, where he was baptized 17 days ago, Father Elijah performed his funeral service. His classmates, my former students, gathered, and the dean of the faculty, Pyotr Yuryevich Tretyakov, came. The girls were crying. In the middle of the Nikolsky chapel stood a long coffin in which lay Timur, God's servant Timothy. Father Elijah began the funeral service. I distributed candles to everyone. It was quiet and solemn, as always at death. But this death combined both absurdity and loftiness. He died so young, but he died steadfastly, like a warrior.
After the funeral service, Father Elijah asked me to say a word. I was shocked, but I said:
– Don’t cry, because we shouldn’t cry, but envy Timur. He accepted holy Baptism, confessed and received the Holy Mysteries of Christ before his death. He went to the Lord like a pure angel. Can we die like this? Will we be able to approach the Lord THIS way - without murmuring during terrible suffering? We should envy Timur. And don’t say “We loved him,” say “We love him,” for he is alive with God.
After saying goodbye, Timofey’s body was taken to his hometown in a refrigerator and buried there.
But for his family this was just the beginning.
Timothy's mother - God's servant Love - suffered the death of her son with peace and tranquility that was surprising to her, if these words can be used in such a catastrophe. A year later, she came to our monastery and told us many amazing things that happened after Timothy’s death.
The death of his son struck his father so much that he was soon baptized, took his son’s baptismal name - Timothy, and he and his wife were married.
One day Timur dreamed of his mother and asked the only thing left at home after him - his red sweater - to be given to his friend Alexei, who had recently also fallen ill with a blood disease. The mother, of course, was very sorry to say goodbye to the thing dear to her, and Alexei’s family was not in poverty, but she saw in this dream some kind of Providence of God and gave the sweater. Alexey accepted the gift without enthusiasm and did not wear it for a long time. But Timur’s mother reminded him: “What aren’t you wearing?” Out of respect for her, he put on a sweater. That day he went to the hospital, but for some reason his attending doctor was absent. Another doctor examined him, did tests, and it turned out that he was being treated for the wrong disease and could have been “healed” to death. Since then, Alexey has not parted with his sweater.
Over the course of this year, Lyubov had to meet many people and help many.
Here is a doctor who “healed” a young, 22-year-old girl to death. A criminal case was opened against him, a trial was to take place, but the girl’s mother wanted to kill this doctor:
- My girl is in the cemetery, and he will be in prison, this is not enough, he must die.
The Lord brought this inconsolable woman together with Timur’s mother, who told how her son was dying and that the Lord took his soul into His hands, and now he feels good. The woman was consoled and refused to kill.
Or a nineteen-year-old girl decided to commit suicide, and mother Lyuba found comforting words for her, again talked about her son and how he loved life and how he felt about suicide.
She is amazing, this mother Lyuba, kind and good. Her maternal love is now enough for everyone who reaches out to her.
When great grief occurs in a family, it becomes more united, as if a telephone had been wired into it, this family, to the next world. And around a family that can endure such grief, like around a spiritual fire, wounded people warm up. While we were talking with Lyuba’s mother, I couldn’t shake the feeling that just a year ago, who barely stood in faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, this woman, who suffered a terrible grief, has now become a confessor of faith among the people around her. Because Timur was “like everyone else,” and she, his mother, used to be “like everyone else,” but now she is able to bear both her own and others’ grief. Faith made her strong.
Remembering the Easter of Christ, I pray for the repose of Timothy in the Kingdom of Heaven and for his parents Timothy and Lyubov, may the Lord grant them His peace and supreme goodness. Pray, too, you, the reader.
The name given to a child at birth influences his destiny. That is why our ancestors always used the Saints and gave their children church names at baptism. Today this practice is also not uncommon. Read on to learn how to make the right choice.
Profession and business
The characteristics of the name Timur determine, first of all, the career of a military man or a coach - those professions where this man is able to reach enormous heights. He can also be a good doctor and programmer, run a hotel or bank. And if he has a penchant for creative specialties, he is capable of becoming an excellent actor or director.
The owner of the name is always a leader, and, being a good manager, he knows how to find the “key” for everyone in order to create a team that is fanatically devoted to him alone. In principle, he can be an excellent worker who follows the rules of the team, but after a certain time he manages to overtake everyone and become a manager.
Sex and love
It cannot be said that Timur is afraid of women; rather, he is afraid of them, since sex for him is not a simple satisfaction of vital needs. The guy simply doesn’t want to be disappointed, because after a breakup with a girl he “recovers” for a very long time, experiencing pain alone with himself. He is jealous, the slightest suspicion of his partner’s infidelity puts an end to further relationships. He doesn’t make scenes or scandals, but simply leaves and erases the woman from his life forever.
In bed, Timur is a passionate and impulsive leader, and the general surroundings are as important to him as the beauty of the girl, whom he tries to give maximum pleasure. This man understands a woman well, is skilled and wise in love. He is able to grasp her desires and bring matters to a release. He is not a womanizer, he satisfies all his needs with his wife or permanent partner, without jumping from bed to bed (his disgust has a huge role here).
Family and marriage
Timur usually marries late, but successfully. He rarely gets divorced and never initiates a breakup (unless his wife cheated on him). Such a man needs an extremely patient, forgiving woman with a “homely” character, who will have to take on the role of the head of the family in all financial and everyday matters - from the distribution of money brought by her husband to repairs. At the same time, she must have a bright appearance; he simply will not notice a “pretty” girl.
As for sexual relations, Timur is satisfied with a strict, restrained wife, who perceives her husband as a ruler and does not show initiative. But, despite the burden of problems that rests on her shoulders, the woman in return receives a patient and sensitive husband who is able to forgive shortcomings, withstand whims and give in. Smooth relationships between family members are important to him; he calmly coexists with the older generation, even under the same roof, easily adapting to material constraints.
Timur raises his children in strictness, but at the same time does not limit their freedom in any way, giving them the opportunity to grow and develop harmoniously. He takes into account the opinions of his children when deciding issues that are fundamentally important for the family.
Health
Little Timur is a sickly and weak child. It is important for parents not to neglect diseases of the bronchi and lungs. It’s good if the boy is toughened up. Visiting a sports section will strengthen your immune system.
Adult Timur rarely gets sick. He is a strong man. If his daily life is connected with sports, then he is not afraid of illness at all. Although you need to closely monitor the condition of the joints and musculoskeletal system.
