The holiday is based on the appearance of the Virgin Mary with angels for the salvation of the people. At the same time, an even more unusual event occurred - the Mother of God covered a group of people hiding in the temple with her veil. These events took place in 910 on the territory of Constantinople (Byzantium). The people from the besieged city did not know where to escape, and therefore turned to the temple. People began to pray and ask for help.
Here, in the temple, was the holy fool Andrew, as well as his disciple Epiphanius. They saw the image of the Ever-Virgin Mary appearing. The Mother of God knelt down and prayed to the Lord for the salvation of all the people who were in the temple. With her were angels, a host of Saints. My story “My prayer for the Intercession”
“I was born on October 14, so I was taught to pray from childhood. How to read the akathist
- First, be sure to say the initial prayers; usually they are in the akathist.
- While reading the closing prayers, you can mention different people.
- It is not necessary to take a blessing to read the akathist at home. You can pray at any time, on any day. But if you want to take a vow for a certain amount, you need to consult with your confessor. You should not make unreasonable promises.
- If you plan to read aloud in church, you must ask permission from the abbot. Perhaps the priest will even agree to conduct a prayer service. Many churches hold traditional prayer services with akathists against drunkenness, for example.
- The number of days on which the akathist is read is not regulated by the church. You can read one, you can read for 40 days - as long as you can. The result of prayer depends not on the number of repetitions, but on the faith and sincerity of the person praying.
