Description and meaning of prayer
First, let's find out who King and Prophet David is. In principle, this is a well-known character, which even people who are not Christians by faith have probably heard about.
David became famous as the great king of Israel, although before ascending the throne, he was an ordinary shepherd, to whom, however, the Lord entrusted the whole kingdom.
He became famous as a great king and commander, whose military successes can be entirely considered outstanding. In addition, he is revered as a great prophet. During his reign, Israel was one of the richest and most prosperous kingdoms, because David deeply revered the Lord and tried to follow his instructions in everything.
However, despite his chosenness and fear of God, David was not a sinless man. Unfortunately, such is human nature, so even the great king made mistakes.
One of them can be considered polygamy, which, as you know, is prohibited in Christianity. Adultery can also be added to this, since the prophet liked the wife of his military leader Bathsheba. In order to make this woman his, he sent her husband to certain death, which, of course, went against the Christian way of life.
And although, like all people, David made terrible mistakes in his life, he had the courage to admit them and repent of what he had done. So, when he was accused of wanting to take possession of someone else’s wife out of lust and getting rid of her husband, the prophet did not even justify himself, but instead immediately repented of his sins before God.
As a rule, this prophet is turned to if protection from evil people is needed. King David was known as a great military leader and defender of his people, which is why it is customary to turn to him with such requests.
We often encounter ill-wishers, and at this moment we may need the protection of a saint, which this great king may well become.
There are several situations in which it would be appropriate to turn to David and ask for mercy and protection:
- Protection from ill-wishers.
- When there are attacks of rage or anger that need to be controlled.
- Reconciliation of loved ones who are currently in a quarrel.
- In a difficult situation when a person cannot find a way out.
- Before any dangerous or important event.

Joseph, Betrothed to the Blessed Virgin Mary
Saint Joseph the Betrothed came from the family of King David.
In his first marriage he had four sons and two daughters. Having been widowed, Saint Joseph lived in strict abstinence. An eighty-year-old old man, he was chosen by the high priests as guardian of the virginity of the Most Holy Theotokos, who had taken a vow of celibacy. An Angel announced to him about the incarnation of the Son of God through Her. Saint Joseph was present at the veneration of the shepherds to the Newborn Child of God and at the veneration of the Magi to Him. At the direction of the Angel, he fled with the Mother of God and the Infant Jesus to Egypt, saving them from the wrath of King Herod. In Egypt, he lived with the Virgin Mary and the Infant God, earning their food by working as a carpenter. Saint Joseph died at the age of about one hundred years. Oh, most praiseworthy and wonderful prophet of God, David! Hear us, sinners and indecent ones, who at this hour stand before your holy icon and diligently resort to your intercession. Strengthen Orthodox people with your prayers, prosper them in all good deeds and undertakings for the establishment of peace and truth in their power.
Help the All-Russian Christ-loving army in battles with our enemies.
