Every year thousands of believers come to the blessed Saint. Someone makes a pilgrimage to St. Petersburg to the Smolensk cemetery to cling to Ksenia’s coffin. Someone sends letters with the hope of a good deed. The saint hears requests and helps the suffering, and in the heart of each happy person remains the memory of his own personal miracle.

Life of Xenia of Petersburg

Ksenia Grigorievna Petrova was the wife of Colonel Andrei Fedorovich, who served as a court singer. Having been widowed at the age of 26, the young woman took upon herself the difficult feat of foolishness for Christ's sake. Earthly goods have become worthless for Ksenia. She distributed all her property to those in need. Having declared herself dead, the blessed woman began to wear her husband’s clothes and call herself by his name.

The death of her beloved husband showed the young widow the fragility of earthly happiness. Blessed Ksenia rushed to the Lord with all her soul. Only He could give her comfort and protection.

The people of St. Petersburg loved Blessed Xenia and rejoiced if she visited their home or store. They tried to treat us, give us new clothes, and give us a place to stay for the night. Cab drivers offered to give us a ride. Mothers brought their children to the saint, in the hope that she would caress them. For everyone whom Ksenia showered with attention, their lives improved:

  • girls successfully married out of mutual love,
  • children grew up healthy and strong,
  • merchants' goods were quickly sold out,
  • The cab drivers' profits increased.

Ksenia rejoiced in her poverty and refused all help. After the clothes of her deceased husband became completely shabby, the blessed one put on a cheap skirt, jacket and torn shoes. The blessed saint did not wear warm clothes even in the cold winters.

Having no shelter over her head, Ksenia of Petersburg was among the poor during the day, and at night she went into the field. There she spent time in fervent prayerful communication with God. When the construction of the church at the Smolensk cemetery began, the Saint secretly carried bricks to the upper part of the building at night, facilitating the work of the masons.

Blessed Ksenia died at the age of 71 and was buried in the same Smolensk cemetery where she participated in the construction of the church. The exact date of her dormition, as well as the date of birth, is not known. But death did not stop the flow of her love towards people. The saint, as during her lifetime, continued to help everyone who turned to her with sincere prayer coming from the heart.

When praying to Xenia of St. Petersburg, you must not forget to pray to the Lord. After all, it is He who is the Giver of all blessings, and it is to Him that Saint Xenia’s prayer request for us is sent.

Blessed Ksenia of St. Petersburg heard my request and arranged everything at her discretion

This happened twenty years ago, when I was still a student at the St. Petersburg Chemical and Pharmaceutical Academy. I lived in a dormitory, and for the first three years I was so absorbed in my studies that I didn’t look up from my notes, while my classmates were already having affairs with guys and getting married.

And in my fourth year I fell in love with a young teacher, Igor Vasilyevich. He taught practical classes for us. I wasn't scared by the ten-year age difference. In her girlish dreams she affectionately called him Igorechek, Igoresha.

Remembering Pushkin’s Tatiana, one day I decided to write a note to Igor Vasilyevich declaring my love. I didn’t subscribe, I thought: “Let him just know that there is a girl nearby who loves him very much.

If he is my destiny, he will understand who it is and take a step towards it.” During the break, I managed to quietly slip a note into his briefcase.

I went to the next lesson with excitement, because Igor Vasilyevich should have already discovered and read my message. But the teacher looked impassive, as if he had not found the student’s frank confessions. This calmed me down a little.

However, after class, when everyone was already leaving the classroom, Igor Vasilyevich asked me to stay. “Listen, Pryakhina, I read the letter and recognized your handwriting

Let's make everything clear here and now. Get this stupid romantic nonsense out of your head. You and I cannot be a couple, a teacher and a student are the worst thing that could happen in my life. I don't want to see notes like this again. Goodbye".

I flew out of the audience and didn’t go to the next class. She walked down the street and roared like a beluga, even passers-by turned around. Suddenly, from behind, someone affectionately took my hand. I turned around and saw a sweet old lady of about eighty.

- What happened, dear? Why such bitter tears?

- My love is unhappy, grandmother.

Without expecting it from myself, I told the whole story in detail to the first stranger I met. Then I thought that I shouldn’t have done it. Now the old lady will begin to reproach me, saying that you can’t be so promiscuous and force yourself on an adult man.

But my grandmother didn’t tell me anything like that.

- I will help your trouble, come with me.

And I, absolutely not knowing this old woman, blindly followed her. We arrived at the Smolensk cemetery, went into the temple and placed candles near several icons. Then I was in church for the first time in my life.

Then we walked past the graves and crosses to a small house - a chapel. Grandmother told me to write my request and give it to Saint Ksenyushka. Of course, I didn’t understand how to do this, so I asked again.

“Write a little note and stick it in some crevice of the chapel.” Then walk around, bow and cross yourself.

I tore a sheet out of the notes and wrote: “I want to marry Igor Vasilyevich.” She folded the note several times, found a crack and shoved it deeper. Then she did everything as the old woman advised and awkwardly crossed herself.

Grandma said that now I can go home, and she will stay here a little longer. Sitting in the minibus, I suddenly felt such relief, as if a huge stone had been lifted from my shoulders.

The hostel calmly began to prepare for tomorrow's test. And only when I had already gone to bed did I suddenly realize that after the trip to Saint Xenia I had never thought about Igor Vasilyevich. It’s strange, but at that moment I realized that I was absolutely indifferent to him.

The next day, having passed a difficult test, I joyfully jumped out of the institute and ran to the metro. It was snowing and the road was slippery. Already at the station I slipped and fell, dropping my record book from my hands right into the snow.

Some guy got out of the car, picked up my grade book, and for some reason flipped through it. Then he came up to me, helped me up and said: “Why are you so careless, Irina Vitalievna.” I smiled, it was he who read my name in the record book.

- Let's get acquainted. I am Igor Vasilievich.

Can you imagine my condition??? This is how Blessed Xenia arranged everything. Six months later we got married. For twenty years now I have been calling my beloved husband Igor and Igoresh.

The blessed one was married to the court singer Andrei Petrov, but when she was 26 years old, her husband died suddenly. St. Ksenia loved him very much, and in order to atone for his sins, she took upon herself the feat of foolishness, that is, she began to pretend to be crazy. She gave her house to the needy, kept only her husband’s clothes, began to respond exclusively to his name, and told everyone that Andrei was alive, and Ksenia had died.
