Oh, great saint of Christ and miracle worker Tikhon! Hear us, many sinners, who come running to You with warm faith and tender prayer. You truly were the good shepherd of the spiritual flock of Christ, the valiant builder of the mysteries of God, the pillar and adornment of the Orthodox Church, Russian Zlatoust, strong in eradicating pagan customs a skilled interpreter of the Gospel teachings, a zealous guardian of sacred fatherly traditions, a lover of monastic silence, a divinely inspired collector of treasures of spiritual wisdom from visible to this world, created in wisdom by God. You, as a chosen vessel of grace, did not lazily teach all those who thirsted for salvation in word, life, love, Spirit, faith, purity and humility. You were the merciful protector of the orphans, the care of widows, the poor, and a quick comforter to all those in trouble and adversity. And now we know that we stand before the face of the Lord of glory and have great boldness towards Him; For this reason, Father, we come running to You and fervently pray to You: be an intercessor for all of us at the Throne of the Most High. May He forgive our lawlessness and unrighteousness; may it enlighten our mind, darkened by vanity, and direct it to the true light of the knowledge of God; may our weak hearts be preserved from the lustful, sinful passions and corrupting wisdom of this age; may the land be given timely irrigation of rain and fruit, and all that is useful to us, even to the temporal and eternal life, and may all who flow to the race of your incorruptible relics find peace, love and serenity. For our Church, ask the Heavenly King for mercy, prosperity, salvation, and for victory and overcoming our enemies. Protect our Fatherland with peace and quiet, preserve your holy abode from all temptations and teach us all to reverently and fearfully walk along the paths of God’s commandments, so that we too may be worthy stand with you and with all the saints at the right hand of the Lord of hosts on the day of his terrible universal Judgment. Life path
Born in 1724 in the Novgorod region, the family was very poor. Soon the father died, leaving six children and a mother. Often there was not enough money even for food. The boy had to work all day for a piece of bread. Thanks to the efforts of his older brother, the young man was enrolled in a religious school, which determined his future fate.

An interesting incident arose with the election of the bishop. The name of Tikhon Zadonsky was included with the names of other candidates. Through the prayers of Bishop Athanasius, it came up three times in a row during the drawing of lots.

The diocese was large, sectarians were hiding on its territory, the priests were very uneducated and did not understand the essence of worship. Even the clergy holding high positions did not want to change anything in their lives, brushing aside the instructions of the humble bishop. The saint did a lot to raise the level of spirituality in his environment.

Saint Tikhon of Zadonsk about fasting
As we see, there is physical fasting, and there is mental fasting . Bodily fasting is when the womb fasts from food and drink. Mental fasting is when the soul abstains from evil thoughts, deeds and words.
- A fair faster is one who refrains himself from fornication, adultery and all uncleanness .
- A fair faster is one who abstains from anger, rage, malice and revenge .
- A fair faster is one who has imposed abstinence on his tongue and keeps it from idle talk, foul language, madness, slander, condemnation, flattery, lies and all slander.
A fair faster is one who keeps his hands from theft , theft, and robbery, and his heart from coveting other people's things. In a word, a good faster is one who shuns all evil.
You see, Christian, spiritual fasting. Physical fasting is useful for us , since it serves to mortify our passions. But mental fasting is absolutely necessary, because physical fasting is nothing without it .
- Many fast with the body, but do not fast with the soul.
- Many fast from food and drink, but do not fast from evil thoughts, deeds and words - and what good does it do them?
- Many fast every other day, two or more, but out of anger, rancor and revenge they do not want to fast.
Many abstain from wine, meat, fish, but with their tongue they bite people like themselves - and what good does it do them? Some often do not touch food with their hands, but extend them to bribery, theft and robbery of other people's property - and what benefit does it do them?
True and direct fasting is abstinence from all evil . If, Christian, you want fasting to be useful to you, then, while fasting physically, fast also mentally, and fast always. Just as you impose a fast on your belly, so impose a fast on your evil thoughts and whims.
- Let your mind fast from vain thoughts .
- Let the memory fast from rancor .
- Let your will fast from evil desire .
- Let your eyes fast from evil vision : “turn away your eyes, so as not to see vanity” (Ps 119:37).
- May your ears be kept from vile songs and slanderous whispers .
- Let your tongue fast from slander, condemnation, blasphemy, lies, flattery, foul language, and every idle and rotten word .
- May your hands fast from beating and stealing other people's property .
Let your feet fast from going to evil deeds. Turn away from evil and do good (Ps 33:15; 1 Peter 3:11).
This is the Christian fast that God requires of us . Repent, and, abstaining from every evil word, deed and thought, learn every virtue, and you will always fast before God.
“If you fast in quarrels and strife, and strike with the hand of the humble, why fast before Me as you do now, so that your voice may be heard. I have not chosen such a fast as the day on which a person will humble his soul, when he bends his neck like a sickle and covers himself with rags and ashes.
This is not the kind of fast you would call a pleasant fast, this is not the kind I have chosen,” says the Lord.
- But resolve every alliance of unrighteousness, destroy all debts written down by force, set the brokenhearted free, tear up every unrighteous scripture, split your bread with the hungry, and bring the poor who have no shelter into the house; When you see a naked person, clothe him, and do not hide from your half-blood.
Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly increase, and your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the Lord will follow you.
Then you will call, and the Lord will hear; you will cry out, and He will say: “Here I am!” When you have removed the yoke from among you, and have ceased to lift up your finger and speak insultingly, and have given your soul to the hungry, and fed the soul of the afflicted, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your darkness will be like the noonday” (Isaiah 58:4-10).

All of these, most especially, we ask, Saint Tikhon, from the Generous God, as we have great boldness towards Him: for you, as an acquisitor, is a true intercessor and a warm prayer for us before the Lord, Him All glory, honor and worship are due. To the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Believers also noticed that Saint Tikhon, through the prayers of those who suffer, helps to get rid of various addictions that prevent a person from living freely and joyfully in Christ. Such mental and physical ailments are:
- destructive drinking;
- slavish craving for smoking;
- terrible drug addiction;
- sucking depression;
- intoxicating insanity;
- eclipsing madness.
Saint Tikhon responds especially clearly to those who themselves or whose relatives or friends fall under the power of all kinds of sorcerers and sorcerers.
They also turn to the saint with more ordinary petitions: to help with their studies and work, to improve their financial situation.
Evidence of gracious help
Numerous testimonies of the gracious help of St. Tikhon through the prayers of believers can be found on the Internet today. Let us point out just a few examples.
One nun suffered greatly from cirrhosis of the liver. Medicine, with all its expensive drugs and modern technical means, turned out to be powerless in the face of a devastating disease. All that remained was to pray, which the sick woman did in front of the image of St. Tikhon. She cried out to the heavenly intercessor for many days, and eventually received complete healing from her illness.
Even being on his deathbed, a person does not lose hope of extending his earthly days, asking permission for this from his Heavenly Father. The saints help us convey this prayer. The husband of one parishioner was dying of cholera. She turned in prayer to Saint Tikhon, and death receded. He recovered and both went to Zadonsk to thank the miracle worker for getting rid of the deadly plague.
