Psalm 142 - text

Psalm to David, when Absalom his son persecuted himPsalm of David when he was pursued by Absalom his son.
1 Lord, hear my prayer, inspire my supplication in Thy truth, hear me in Thy righteousness1 Lord, hear my prayer, hearken to my supplication in Thy truth, hear me in Thy righteousness
2 And do not enter into judgment with Your servant, for no one living will be justified in Your sight.2 And do not enter into judgment with Your servant, for no one living will be justified before You.
3 Because the enemy drove away my soul, he humbled my belly to eat in the ground, he made me sit down to eat in dark ages, like dead ages.3 For the enemy began to persecute my soul, he brought my life down to the ground, and he planted me in darkness, as those who had been dead for centuries.
4 And my spirit is faint within me, my heart is troubled within me.4 And my spirit was faint within me, my heart was troubled within me.
5 I have remembered the days of old, I have learned in all Your works, I have learned Your hand in all creation.5 I remembered the days of old, I thought about all Your works, I meditated on the work of Your hands.
6 My hands have lifted up to You, my soul, like a waterless land to You.6 I have stretched out my hands to You; my soul before You is like a dry land.
7 Hear me quickly, O Lord; my spirit has perished; do not turn Your face away from me, and I will become like those who go down into the pit.7 Hear me quickly, O Lord, my spirit is faint: turn not Thy face away from me, lest I be like them that go down into the pit.
8 I hear that Thy mercy should be shown to me in the morning, for I have trusted in Thee. Tell me, Lord, I will go the other way, because I have taken my soul to You. 8 Let me hear Your mercy early in the morning, for I trust in You; Open to me, Lord, the path along which I should go, for I have lifted up my soul to You.
9 Deliver me from my enemies, O Lord, I have fled to You.9 Deliver me from my enemies, O Lord, for I have fled to You.
10 Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God. Your Good Spirit will guide me to the right land. 10 Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God; Your good Spirit will lead me to the land of righteousness.
11 For Thy name's sake, O Lord, live me, and through Thy righteousness bring my soul out of sorrow.11 For Thy name's sake, O Lord, Thou wilt revive me; according to Thy righteousness Thou wilt bring my soul out of sorrow,
12 And by Thy mercy consume my enemies and destroy all my cold souls, for I am Thy servant.12 And according to Your mercy You will destroy my enemies, and destroy all those who oppress my soul, for I am Your servant.

The magical world of magic and esotericism or the MAIN LAWS OF THE UNIVERSE

The first person he comes across wants to touch something special and previously unknown, to close new boundaries of understanding for himself, to come into contact with something supernatural and unfamiliar. Thanks to this, everyone who is in search of high spiritual practices, who wants to look “behind the curtain,” eventually receives answers. Turning to the depths of the universe, it is appropriate to say that at all times there has been talk about wizards, sorcerers and healers, mystical phenomena, inexplicable events and much more, what is it? is beyond comprehension. Over time, people managed to chain all their practices and interests to the mysteries of the Universe through the path of self-knowledge. And today it is called in one word - esotericism

However, it is worth immediately focusing on the fact that magic and esotericism are two cardinal opposites. Despite the fact that they directly work with supernatural things, esotericism professes pure practices that have no negative consequences

Magic, in turn, involves working with spells, using props and appealing to the Forces of Light and the Forces of Darkness. Esotericism prefers not to touch on this; it preaches an appeal to energy flows that can transform the life of everyone who learns to “be introduced” to them. So, in order to understand the vital necessity of esotericism, to trace its laws and learn to master it perfectly, one should become more thoroughly acquainted with it and understand how it works.

First of all, it is worth saying that with the help of esotericism you can seduce luck. To do this, it is enough to direct your thoughts in this direction and predetermine yourself that phenomenal success will definitely happen in the near future. Due to the fact that thoughts are material, there is no doubt that all your plans will come true in the near future. Therefore, we can say with confidence that the main rule of esotericism is faith in yourself, in your strengths and in the fact that with the help of positive thinking and an internal attitude to receive light waves, you can achieve phenomenal success.

Financial prosperity will also not be long in coming if you regularly saturate your mind with the right thoughts. So, you should take one of the bills in your wallet, place it in front of you, put your palm on it and sign it, close your eyes and imagine how this pass attracts other funds to itself, how it is like a magnet, attracts money to itself, like a wallet becomes thicker and thicker, as the dividend comes from different sides... Thus, by visualizing the picture of your successful financial future, you can be 100% sure that it will definitely come, and end up exactly the way it was born in your imagination.

Due to the fact that esotericism teaches the world to copulate through self-knowledge and self-improvement, it will be much easier to understand certain representatives of modern society in a certain situation. Being in an absolutely harmonious state, essentially filled with inner strength, there is no doubt that a problem in business will come suddenly and unexpectedly, or a problematic situation will be solved by the owner herself, as if by magic. Esotericism teaches you to look at the world with bright and pure eyes, to grow spiritually, cultivating love and harmony in your engine, and you don’t have to think about the coming of success, because alcohol will be nearby all the time, accompanying the spiritualized person every step of the way, increasing his income, filling him with immense force, joy and boundless peace.

We advise you to study Prayer to King David

Why read Psalm 142

The Psalms are so respected in Orthodoxy that they are often published as a separate book. In former times, monastics learned it completely by heart. And today believers are advised to know at least a few chapters from the Bible by heart. This gives a great advantage - you can call upon God’s help anywhere. Psalm 142 in the Russian Orthodox Church has liturgical application:

  • Used at Great Compline;
  • Read at Small Compline;
  • Included in the six psalms;
  • Sounds during the ceremony of unction (blessing of oil).

The Six Psalms is part of Matins - the service is held in the evenings, and chapters from the Psalter are heard in the dark, only the reader holds a lit candle in his hand. This is done so that the attention of believers is focused only on the words of repentance.

1196 In the end, the sons of Korah, about the mysteries, psalm, 45.

2 God is our refuge and strength, the Giver of help in the grave sorrows that have befallen us.

3 Therefore we will not be afraid when the earth is shaken and the mountains are thrown into the depths of the sea.

4 The waters made a noise and were troubled, the mountains shook with His great power.

5 The rushing waters make the city of God glad; The Almighty sanctified His monastery.

6 God is in the midst of the city, and it will not be moved; God will help him at dawn.

7 Nations were in turmoil, kingdoms were subjected; The Most High uttered His voice, and the earth shook.

8 The Lord of hosts is with us, our Advocate, the God of Jacob!

9 Come and see the works of God, what wonders He will do on earth.

10 He will put an end to war throughout all the borders of the earth; He will break the bow, and break the weapons, and burn the shields with fire.

11 “Detach yourself and understand that I am God! I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”

12 The Lord of hosts is with us, our Advocate, the God of Jacob!

One of the great saints said that without understanding, the very essence of prayer is lost. Therefore, every time you pick up the Holy Scriptures, you should make an effort to delve into the meaning of what is written. Why read Psalm 142:

  • To call on God's help in a difficult situation.
  • Recommended for women who are expecting a child.
  • For repentance of sins.
  • At home, any believer can use it at the behest of his heart during times of grief, when sadness overcomes him.

Today there are several translations in Russian; you can choose the one you like best. There is no need to take special permission to read the Psalter, since it is part of Holy Scripture. Studying the Bible is a sacred duty for every Christian. There is a pious custom of reading a psalm 40 times. But this is recommended only for those believers who have sufficient prayer experience. Simply repeating words will not give any result; this action must be meaningful.

What is the psalm talking about?

Earthly life is full of painful experiences. Even righteous people are not immune from this. It is the saints who often have to endure injustice, persecution, and humiliation. Sometimes it becomes difficult to bear. In such a situation, you must especially try to make your petitions pleasing to God, for which you extract words from your very heart. Since God Himself commanded to seek Him, the words of faith will certainly be heard. A believer can and should show zeal in prayer, but at the same time do not forget about humility.

The psalmist’s situation is especially sad because even his body is exhausted - the flesh seems to have grown together with the bones, the heart has “dried up”, troubles burn like fire. These lines remind us of how weak the human body is. As soon as a Christian is deprived of God's mercy for only a short time, it begins to fade.

Although the man had bread, he had no appetite. Sorrowful thoughts prevented him from enjoying food. The whole strength of the righteous man consisted in constant communication with God. When the temple service stopped, the sacrifices stopped, the independence of the Jewish people ended, the mercy of God became a thing of the past. This is why life has lost its meaning and joy.

But the author of Psalm 101 is not too worried about his own problems. What upsets him most is the Lord's displeasure. Therefore, he takes upon himself the fast and weeps bitterly. Memories of past greatness only make the experience more difficult. After all, the higher someone is elevated, the more painful the fall. What lesson can be learned from these lines? Believers should see the wisdom of God not only in times of joy, but also in times of decline and trials.

The meaning of the psalm

The meaning of Psalm 143 is that the one who prays calls on God. He is in a difficult situation - this is not only a spiritual situation. External enemies threaten to attack; at that period of his life, King David feared for his life. But first of all, he asks the Lord not for physical salvation, but for forgiveness and mercy. He feels uncomfortable away from the promised land; here it symbolically represents paradise, from which man was expelled for his sins.

Not a single living person, as King David rightly asserts, can present to God deeds worthy of His goodness. No righteous person can justify himself by his virtues. It is also common for a person to attribute his own weaknesses to the Lord, find various tricks, and make excuses. David appears before the Creator in a state of spiritual humility. This is a view of the world when a believer first of all thinks not about himself, but about how to please God.

Psalm 143 contains many beautiful epithets and vivid images. The psalmist compares his soul to dried up earth. Even if there are grains of goodness in it, they cannot sprout without the life-giving power of the Holy Spirit, which can only be found in repentance and prayer.

  • King David sets an example of how Christians should fellowship with the Lord. He does not cheat, does not try to bargain with the Almighty. He does not demand a cozy, comfortable life in exchange for good deeds, as many modern believers do. He cries out to heaven for the Lord to look at him, because without God he does not feel fully alive.
  • With all the strength of his soul, the author seeks the path to his heavenly Master. People can't always see the straight path. Although we know that the path to salvation is Christ, the voice of conscience can be drowned out by a multitude of sins.
  • The laws that were given to Moses do not save. After all, people simply do not have enough strength to comply with all of them, which is why the Savior’s sacrifice on the cross was required. The only source of all good things is the Lord.

History of writing

The author of the work is the Jewish king David, who during his lifetime was known as a righteous and God-fearing man. The song is dedicated to the time when the family ties of the royal family were broken. The once beautiful and fair son of David, Absalom, killed his brother because he had dishonored his own sister and did not even take on the obligations of marriage. David was angry and ordered his remaining son to be seized. The confrontation lasted for a long time, but David loved Absalom and forgave him.

Only hatred and anger had already taken root in the young man’s heart. He committed treason, where he slandered his father in front of the people, and lured his closest friends to his side with slander. The uprising could have ended in the death of the king, but he managed to escape.

Miracles

The elder, thanks to his mental prayer, possessed a gift from God - miracles and clairvoyance. There are many known cases recorded from the words of people. One day a woman from Voronezh got lost in the forest, which was located seven miles from the monastery. And suddenly she saw an old man, whose stick showed her the way. She followed it to the monastery house of Elder Ambrose. When she came closer, the cell attendant suddenly came out and asked her: where is Avdotya from the city of Voronezh? Fifteen minutes later she left the elder all in tears and sobs. And she said that Ambrose was the same person who led her to the right path in the forest.

There was another amazing case when one artisan came to Optina Pustyn to receive an order and money to make an iconostasis. Before leaving, he decided to ask the elder for his blessing. But he said that he had to wait three days. The master thought that he would waste his earnings this way, but still listened to the old monk. Later he learned that, without giving blessings for so long, the elder literally saved him from death. After all, all these three days his apprentices were guarding him under the bridge in order to rob and kill him. Only when they left did the confessor accept the master and let him go.

And one day the Monk Ambrose of Optina revived the dead horse of a poor peasant who was crying over it. A saint from a distance could, like Nicholas the Wonderworker, help people in various disasters. A lot of wonderful stories are associated with the name of Saint Ambrose. Truly, it was not in vain that Saint Macarius predicted to him that he would become a great man.
