Divine Ivan
“Pardoned by God” - this is roughly how the name Ivan can be translated from Latin. It is very common in the calendar. If you look at the church calendar of Orthodox names, there are quite a few patrons of Ivanov who celebrate name days in September. On the 5th, the memory of the Great Martyr Ioan Karabanov, who was executed in 1937, is honored.
He was a priest and an opponent of Soviet power. He had many like-minded people. Based on a denunciation, he was arrested and sentenced to death. It is he who is the patron saint of all Ivans born on this day.
Ivans are contradictory natures. The name translates as “God’s grace,” maybe that’s why they are very lucky in life. Despite her not very balanced character, Vanya quickly finds a way out of even the most unpleasant situation.
If Ivan appears in a company of teenagers, sooner or later he will become a leader in it.
Friends value the following qualities in Vanya:
- justice;
- kindness;
- responsiveness.
The Ivans are always ready to share their last shirt and their only piece of bread with friends. This quality only intensifies over the years, which sometimes only harms the representatives of the name. People begin to take advantage of their kindness and generosity.
Vanya has not been in good health since childhood, although she rarely gets sick. Their studies are average, but they complete all assignments on time. Teachers love Ivanov very much for his responsibility and punctuality. They can be entrusted with public affairs. They are always the first when volunteers or helpers are needed.
Ivanov’s career rarely goes well. The only exception can be creative professions. Monotonous work is not for them. Possessing innate eloquence, they can easily seem different from what they really are.
In love, Ivana is just as unstable as in life. People often get married without thinking, but this goes away with age. The Ivanovs’ first marriage is rarely successful, but the second time they approach the choice of their chosen one very responsibly.
It will be difficult for a quiet and homely girl to be around Vanya. His house is open to friends and acquaintances almost around the clock. Such friendliness often leads a man to alcohol addiction.
Winner Nikolay
Martyr Nicholas (Varzhansky) is considered the patron saint of all Nicholas, whose angel day falls on September 5. He is known as a believer and an ardent fighter against drunkenness. His seminars and missionary activities helped many people get rid of this illness. In narrow circles he is known as a writer of books on Christian themes. He was accidentally arrested along with like-minded people and subsequently shot.
The name Nikolai translates as “conqueror of nations.” It is quite common even today. If they are secretive natures, although with a very interesting inner world. They are neither leaders nor followers. They prefer loneliness to noisy companies.
At school, boys often sit in the back desks, trying to be inconspicuous. But not because they study poorly, but so that the people around them do not interfere with their personal learning process. They are geniuses in those areas of knowledge that are interesting to them and may be completely ignorant of basic things if they do not seem important to them. Negative character traits that appear from childhood:
- selfishness;
- self-confidence;
- arrogance.
They do not know how to lead and will obey. Rare men with this name come to power. However, if this happens, then Nikolaev power only corrupts.
In relationships with the opposite sex, Kolyas show enviable persistence. They can pursue their chosen one for years. But they make excellent husbands and fathers. Family for them is the meaning of existence. Men are happy to deal with everyday problems and are good owners. They can do literally any man's housework, from driving in a nail to repairing equipment. This is precisely why their wives value them so much, even if they do not have mutual feelings for them.
Hieromartyr Irenaeus, bishop. Lionsky (202).Hieromartyr Irenaeus, Bishop of Lyons, was born in 130 in the city of Smyrna
. There he received an excellent education, studying poetry, philosophy, rhetoric and all other sciences that were considered necessary for a secular youth. His mentor in the truths of Christian teaching was a disciple of the Apostle John the Theologian, Saint Polycarp of Smyrna (February 23). He baptized the young man, subsequently ordained him as a presbyter and sent him to the Gallic city of Lugdunum (now Lyon in France) to the elderly Bishop Pofin. Soon Saint Irenaeus was given a responsible assignment: to deliver a letter of confessors to the Holy Pope Eleutherius (177-190). During his absence, all prominent Christians were thrown into prison. In 178, a year after the martyrdom of Bishop Pofinus, Saint Irenaeus was elected bishop of the city of Lugdunum. “In a short time,” St. Gregory of Tours wrote about him, “with his preaching he transformed the whole of Lugdun into a Christian city!” When the persecution of Christians subsided, the saint expounded the Orthodox doctrine in one of his main works entitled: “Exposing and refuting false knowledge,” or in short: “Five books against heresies.” At that time, a number of religious and philosophical Gnostic teachings arose. The Gnostics (from the Greek word “gnosis” - “knowledge”) taught that God cannot incarnate, since matter is imperfect and is the bearer of evil. The Son of God is only an outflow (emanation) of the Divine. Together with Him, a hierarchical series of forces (eons) emanate from the Divine, the totality of which constitutes the “plyroma”, i.e. "completeness". The world was created not by God himself, but by eons or the “demiurge”, who is lower than the “plyroma”.
In refutation of this heresy of Valentinus, Saint Irenaeus developed the Orthodox teaching on salvation. “The Word of God, Jesus Christ, our Lord, by His ineffable goodness became what we are, in order to make us what He is...” St. Irenaeus taught, “Jesus Christ the Son of God, out of excellent love, condescended to His creation before the birth of the Virgin, through Himself uniting man with God.” Through the Incarnation, creation becomes conformable and co-corporeal with the Son of God. Salvation consists in the deification of man.
In refutation of the teaching of another heretic, Marcion, who denied the Divinity of the Old Testament, the saint developed the doctrine of the One Source of the Old and New Testaments: “One and the same Spirit of God, who through the prophets proclaimed what the coming of the Lord was going to be,” the saint wrote. “He preached through the apostles that the fullness of the times of adoption had come and the Kingdom of Heaven was at hand.”
Saint Irenaeus justified the truth of church teaching by the continuity of the episcopate, as well as by the fact that the Church is older than all heretics. “Anyone who wants to know the truth must turn to the Church, because the apostles communicated the Divine Truth to her alone. She is the door to life."
Saint Irenaeus had a beneficial influence in the dispute over the celebration of Easter. The Church of Asia Minor maintained the tradition of celebrating Holy Easter on the 14th of Nisan, regardless of what day it happened. Saint Pope Victor (190-202) imperiously demanded uniformity, and his harsh demands could cause a schism. On behalf of the Gallic Christians, Saint Irenaeus wrote to the Pope that a schism should not be allowed due to traditions; first of all, it is necessary to value the peace of the church.
During the reign of Emperor Severus (193-211), Saint Irenaeus was beheaded with a sword for confessing his faith in the year 202.
Apostle Evangelist John the Theologian, Saint Polycarp of Smyrna and Saint Irenaeus of Lyons are three links in the unbroken chain of grace-filled succession that comes from the Chief Shepherd, the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. In his old age, Saint Irenaeus wrote to his friend Florinus: “I was a youth when I saw you (Florinus) at Polycarp. I remember what happened then more than what happens now. And now I can describe to you the places where blessed Polycarp used to sit and talk. I can describe his lifestyle, the appearance of his body and the instructions that he spoke to the people. The close relationship that, as he said, he had with John and with others who saw the Lord, and everything that he remembered about these words, that he heard from them about the Lord... I listened to this then, by the grace of God, with zeal and did not write on paper, but in the heart” (“Journal of the Moscow Patriarchate”, 1957, No. 9, p. 53).
Modest Pavel
The name Paul can be translated as “modest” or “insignificant.” But this does not mean at all that the representatives of this name are gray individuals. Even the Pauls have more than fifty patron saints. The most famous and revered of them is the Apostle Paul.
Pavels are distinguished by their good nature and sociability. In childhood, these are real angels. However, with age, a stubborn character still begins to take over. This is especially noticeable in adolescence. It is impossible to force them to do something if the Pashas themselves do not show interest in this. Because of their stubbornness, they can fall sharply in their studies.
If you don’t take action in time and don’t pay attention to this behavior, then shy Pasha can grow into a withdrawn and unsociable man. And this could make his life very difficult.
In love, as in career, Pavels prefer stability. The support of loved ones is very important for them. They may even refuse a lucrative offer if they are not happy with their surroundings.

Ian the gracious
There is no such name in the Orthodox calendar. It is derived from John. Accordingly, all the patron saints of the Ivans are also guardian angels for the Ivans. Depending on the country and language, the name is translated differently:
- in Russia - merciful.
- in Denmark - defender.
- from the Turkic language - patron.
- from the languages of the East - life.
The Jans are very purposeful individuals. They have the gift of eloquence and persuasion. They are able to out-argue anyone, even if they are wrong. This skill helps them greatly in life. They quickly move up the career ladder. They also do not experience difficulties in relationships with the opposite sex.
Innate calm and equanimity, coupled with oratorical talent, make Yanov truly indispensable in such fields as politics and teaching. But in other professions they also achieve success thanks to their disruptive nature.
Men with this name can do almost everything. They do any housework easily and naturally, even if they had no idea about it before. Jans are always the life of the party. It's easy to communicate with them. However, these men have one, but very significant drawback - rancor.
Jan does not forgive the offense and never forgets. If an opportunity presents itself to take revenge on the offender, he will definitely take advantage of it, even if many years have passed. He is not serious in love and is not faithful. He himself knows this very well, which is why he prefers to get married as late as possible.
The influence of the zodiac sign on people who celebrate Angel Day on September 5
People born on September 5th have excellent intuition, which not only helps them achieve success, but also saves them from various troubles. The zodiac sign of the birthday people of the day is Virgo. These people have a well-developed imagination and great creative potential. Virgos can easily generate new brilliant ideas and bring them to life. They are able to bring even the most creative and daring ideas into reality.
Virgos born on September 5th are very secretive. They skillfully hide their true emotions behind a mask of lack of insight, preferring to live in their own world of dreams. Sometimes, if Virgos withdraw too much into themselves, it can cause them some psychological problems. Therefore, they should control their world of illusions.
Despite the fact that Virgos lead a “disguised” lifestyle, they are excellent conversationalists, the life of the party, and even holiday people. They value qualities in others such as honesty, openness, mutual assistance, and a good sense of humor.
Ephraim the prolific
The patron of the name is Efrem (Kuznetsov), martyr, bishop, Selenginsky, who was executed in 1918 for his beliefs. He was elevated to sainthood not so long ago, in 2000. In September, the name days of Saints Ephraim do not appear so often, so men born on September 5 and baptized with this name greatly honor their patron.
Translated from Hebrew, the name means “fruitful.” Often this value is completely justified. These men are excellent family men who see the purpose of their lives in children. Efremov can rarely be seen at noisy parties. They prefer solitude or quiet time with their family. Because of this, they often acquire a reputation for being unsociable and gloomy personalities. However, this is not the case.
Surrounded by their loved ones, Ephraims are cheerful and cheerful people. They are pleasant conversationalists and hospitable hosts. Not spoiled by female attention, they are able to discern individuality and hidden talents in any woman. Ladies love these men:
- good nature;
- responsiveness;
- devotion.
The last feature is especially valued among ladies who themselves prefer consistency. That is why the Efremov marriage is more a union of two like-minded people than lovers. Ephraim does not understand love at first sight. They prefer to get to know their chosen one gradually, discovering more and more new qualities in her.
A master in any field is exactly what Efremov is talking about. Since childhood, these boys have been making, inventing, constructing something. And as they age, their home looks more like a fairy-tale mansion than a house or apartment.
Winners of various awards and titles for various inventions and achievements, they rarely advertise their achievements, preferring to hide in the shadows. They don't need fame. Only hunger or complete lack of money can force Efremov to use his talents for commercial purposes. And then, not for his own good, but so that his family does not need anything.
God's gift Fedor
“God's gift” - this is how the name Feodor (Theodore) can be translated. Several saints are considered patrons of the name. However, the most famous of them are the martyrs Theodore Stratelates and Theodore Tiron.
Theodore Stratilates suffered martyrdom for his faith, just as Christ did on the cross. According to legend, he, like the Savior, was resurrected and began to preach the teachings of Christ while wandering the earth. Theodore Tyrone was burned alive at the stake for his refusal to participate in pagan sacrifices.
Fedya are calm and thoughtful people. They are pleasant to talk to. Rudeness and harsh statements towards others are never allowed. Reasonable in disputes. If they are wrong, do not hesitate to admit it. However, Fedya also has negative traits:
- irritability over trifles;
- excessive self-confidence;
- gloominess and silence.
Since childhood, Fedora have been very modest boys. They often have a beautiful appearance, which is why girls really like them. And if other guys consider this an advantage and good luck, then for young Fedorov it is rather a problem.
In love and marriage they prefer consistency. Female obsession and coquetry are more likely to scare Fyodor away than to attract his attention. These men choose either very modest and homely girls as their life partners, or, on the contrary, strong and powerful women.
