As soon as a little person is born, parents are immediately faced with a serious question. What to call a little baby? Some people want to name them after a relative or a beloved idol. But what should others do who are confused and don’t understand which one to choose from a large number. In this case, you can use the list of name days in January according to the church calendar. It contains not only men's, but also women's.

List of male names

Basically, most parents, well before the birth of their child, already choose a name for him. But it happens that when they see the baby for the first time, they radically change him. In addition to the name chosen by the parents for the child, after baptism he may have a guardian angel. It happens that the church name does not coincide with his real name.

Thus, during the service, the clergyman tries to protect the child from possible negative influence from enemies, as well as from possible damage in the future. After all, it is often the church name that is used to carry out magical rituals. How does a priest choose a name for a child? In January there are a large number of angel days with male names. It is on them that priests rely when choosing for baptism. Parents can also take this into account.

Church ministers allow you to look not only at the names that fall on the baby’s birthday, but also those that are a couple of days ahead.

Church Orthodox holidays in January

Venerable Elijah of Pechersk

On the first day of the year, the church celebrates the memory of St. Elijah of Pechersk, nicknamed Chobotok. Ilya was a native of the city of Murom, and popular legend identified him with the famous hero Ilya Muromets, about whom Russian epics told.

Holy Martyr Boniface

On the same day they remember the holy martyr Boniface, who suffered for Christ in the 3rd century. As a slave, he and his mistress Aglaida led a dissolute life, but remorse forced him to turn to the Lord and publicly confess his faith. They pray to him for liberation from the destructive passion of drunkenness - which, unfortunately, is very important on January 1.

January 2 is the day of repose of the holy righteous John of Kronstadt, who departed to the Lord in 1908.

St. rights John of Kronstadt

Important

From childhood, Father John was distinguished by great piety and a thirst for knowledge. Having graduated with honors from the seminary and the Theological Academy, he received an appointment to St. Andrew's Cathedral in Kronstadt, where he served all his life, refusing to pray to anyone. Father John enjoyed great love and fame throughout Russia; through his prayer, numerous miracles were performed.

Holy Great Martyr Anastasia the Pattern Maker

The Day of Remembrance of the Great Martyr Anastasia the Pattern Maker is celebrated on January 4. The saint suffered for Christ at the beginning of the 4th century.

Having been widowed, the saint distributed her property to the poor and suffering; she visited prisons, where she fed, treated and encouraged prisoners imprisoned for professing the Christian faith; she managed to ransom many.

In Illyria, Anastasia was captured, they tried to starve her and drown her, but the Lord miraculously delivered her from death. After much torture, the martyr was tied over the flames of the fire.

On January 7, the Orthodox Church celebrates one of the most important twelve holidays - the Nativity of the Lord God and our Savior Jesus Christ.

Nativity

The Savior was born during the reign of Emperor Augustus in the city of Bethlehem. During the census, everyone had to be in the place where his family originated.

Arriving in Bethlehem, the Virgin Mary and the Righteous Joseph did not find any vacancies in hotels and stopped outside the city in a cave intended for keeping livestock. At midnight, the news of the birth of the Savior from the jubilant Angels came to the shepherds, who came to worship the God-Man.

The holiday in honor of this event was established in apostolic times, but before the 4th century. it was connected with the celebration of Epiphany.

Bethlehem babies

On January 11, they remember the 14 thousand babies killed by King Herod in Bethlehem.

Having learned from the Magi about the birth of a new King, Herod ordered the killing of all babies under two years of age, hoping that among them would be the Infant of God, in whom he saw his rival.

The Great Feast of the Circumcision of the Lord falls on the eighth day from the Nativity of Christ - January 14.

On this day, according to the Old Testament law, the Lord accepted circumcision, established for all male infants as a sign of the Covenant of God with the forefather Abraham and his descendants.

Advice

On the same day, the memory of St. Basil the Great, Archbishop of Caesarea in Cappadocia is celebrated.

Vasily lived in the 4th century and received an excellent education in Constantinople and Athens. Returning to Caesarea, he taught rhetoric, then was baptized and embarked on the path of ascetic life. Together with his friend Gregory the Theologian, he retired to the desert to devote his life to God.

Subsequently, the saint was ordained a presbyter; during the reign of Emperor Valens, a supporter of the Arians, he became an archbishop and made great efforts to protect his flock from heresy.

He compiled the rite of the Liturgy, wrote Conversations on the Sixth Day, on the psalms, as well as a collection of monastic rules.

Venerable Seraphim of Sarov

January 15 is the day of the repose (1883) and the second discovery of the relics (1991) of one of the most beloved Russian saints among the people - St. Seraphim of Sarov. Having taken monastic vows at the age of 27, the monk labored in the Sarov monastery or in the forest desert until the end of his life.

For his feat of prayer, he was honored with repeated visits from the Queen of Heaven. The Monk Seraphim went to the Lord during prayer in front of the icon of the Mother of God. The monk was canonized as a saint in 1903. After the October Revolution, the saint’s relics disappeared and were discovered only in 1991.

Characteristic features of birthday people on January 7

Ivans traditionally celebrate their name day on January 7th. The owners of one of the most common and characteristic names for Russia can differ greatly in character: from quiet and inconspicuous to a mischievous fidget.

They sometimes combine opposite character traits: confidence and weakness, the ability to empathize and cruelty. They have a wide range of interests. They can take on several tasks at the same time, but complete everything clearly and on time. Ivan can build a career in different industries, and quite successfully.

Maria remains sweet and friendly as a child. Will reliably take care of younger children. Sometimes she shows vulnerability and impressionability. At the same time, she is characterized by strength of character, self-respect, and the ability to stand up for herself at the right time.

Sometimes Masha can be overly emotional. During his school years he studies well and manages to help his family in everything. Adult Maria attracts those around her with her friendliness and warm attitude.

How to determine Angel Day

But it happens that parents call their child a name that is not on the church calendar for that month. Many then ask the question: is the child left without a name day? No. Priests say that you need to look at the church calendar and find the name of your child. Look at when it is closest to your birthday.

Remember that it should not be before, but after your birthday. This will be the child’s name day. In addition, it must be remembered that in our time, more and more often, parents have begun to call their children modern names that are not in the church calendar. In this case, to determine the day of the angel, you should contact a priest. He will help you choose the appropriate one.

Remember that you need to be very responsible when choosing a name. After all, the name plays a fairly important role in a person’s fate. The same applies to cases when a child is named after someone. Familiarize yourself with the biography of this person, because a certain connection is established between the name of the one who was named and the name of the one in whose honor they were named. Not only certain character traits can be transferred to a child, but some life episodes can even be repeated.

Many parents also try to choose a name that will be in tune with their patronymic and surname. Agree, not everyone wants to be laughed at. So, make such an important decision carefully and slowly.

The Lord is always with you!

Character traits

Since ancient times, people have believed that it is the name chosen for a child that shapes his character and determines his life position. So boys born under the sign of Capricorn or Aquarius become very open and sociable throughout life. However, along with this, it is worth considering their moderate severity, demandingness and impulsiveness. Despite this, January men are always honest and decent towards the people around them. Prudence, responsibility, balance and calm will become the main guides for boys with the right name according to the church calendar.

Such guys are restless, they need to systematically realize themselves, so parents should treat the child with understanding, take into account all his wishes before enrolling, for example, in an art school, hockey or swimming. It should also not be excluded that the boy will like several proposed options for active pastime, so it is not recommended to focus the child on anything specific. January boys often withdraw into themselves and make new acquaintances very difficult. At these stages, they need the help of their parents, which can be expressed in introducing the baby to communicate with other children (in kindergarten, at a club, in the yard). Neglecting these recommendations can lead to boys developing isolation and fear of people, which, in turn, will negatively affect their adult behavior pattern.
