I give you useful information about holidays and Orthodox events...
It is no coincidence that visiting people and foreigners call Moscow the capital of churches and golden domes. The Church of the Archangel Michael in Troparevo welcomes those arriving in Moscow from Vnukovo airport. People see this red colored structure with domes in the area of high rise buildings. In honor of the millennium of the baptism of Rus' in 1988, the building was transferred to the Moscow Patriarchate, and the first service was held in the Church of the Archangel Michael in Troparevo.
Story
The first mentions of the cathedral are found in the fourteenth century. It was a small village of Troparevo with a church of wooden structure. Then, at the end of the seventeenth century, a stone building was built with money from the Novodevichy Convent; the village was a profitable part of the monastery lands. There is no information about who the architect was. But historians have come to the conclusion that the master was Startsev, who took part in the construction of the Novodevichy Convent. Judging by its appearance, we can say that the creator was a master of genius, skillfully combining Slavic and Western trends in architecture.
The period of Soviet power caused significant damage to the building. At the end of the thirties of the twentieth century, the church was closed. Interior decorations were destroyed, the bells were removed, and gold and silver church attributes were confiscated. The building was used as a granary and stored the details of the Mosfilm film studio. For fifty years the church stood without reconstruction or restoration. Only at the end of the twentieth century did restoration work begin.

Temple in Troparevo: history
Actually, the history of the church in Troparevo is such that it was once a village that was located far outside of Moscow. The village belonged to the Novodevichy Convent for some time. Then the capital grew and Troparevo, and with it the Church of the Archangel Michael, found themselves inside the Moscow Ring Road.
It turned out to be a village inside Moscow:
60s - 70s: you can still see horses in the area - although the area around has already begun to be actively developed: the Yugo-Zapadnaya metro station was built, Vernadsky Avenue appeared.
But how radically the landscape changed with the construction of Vernadsky Avenue. Previously, the church stood on a hill, but after that it didn’t.
At some point, both the horses and the wooden houses disappeared, and in their place typical anthills appeared: like these, which are visible from the temple grounds:
The architecture of the Church of the Archangel Michael in Troparevo is not entirely ordinary. And in this sense: perhaps due to the fact that the village was directly related to the Novodevichy Convent (one of the largest in the country), the Troparevsky church received a facade atypically decorated for a rural church. It was erected in 1694:
That is, on the one hand, the general design and layout of the Troparevsky temple is quite rural, but something “emerges” in it as urban - and specifically “Moscow” - as if someone knew then that sooner or later Moscow would become huge, and the Church of the Archangel Michael will turn out to be a Moscow parish church.
It seems that it even vaguely resembles the Znamensky Cathedral in Zaryadye:
Of course, they cannot be compared directly, but the general idea is obvious: firstly, in the village of Troparevo at the end of the 17th century, a completely “urban” church was built; and secondly: in different temples of the same era you can often find common features. Sometimes there are even almost identical temples in different places.
History of the temple
The church in the village of Troparevo was built in 1694 and consecrated in the name of Archangel Michael, or as he is also called, Archangel Michael - the military leader of the angelic heavenly forces.
On October 25 (old style), 1694, the church was issued an antimension, which in the Orthodox Church is a document authorizing the celebration of liturgies. The antimension is placed on the throne in the altar and serves as a mandatory attribute when performing the full liturgy.
The church was wooden, it was rebuilt twice. The last reconstruction took place in 1669. Then the church burned down and a stone one was built in its place in 1694. The construction was carried out at the expense of the Novodevichy Convent, in whose possessions the village of Troparevo was located. The church was given the status of a temple and consecrated in the name of St. Michael the Archangel.
During the War of 1812, the church did not suffer much and continued to exist. In 1823, the Church of Archangel Michael in Troparevo was repaired.
After the revolution of 1917, the temple was closed. The years of Soviet Power destroyed the temple: temple valuables were looted, the interior decoration was damaged or destroyed, the belfries were destroyed, the bells were thrown down and stolen (with the exception of one, which was hidden by local residents), the fence was demolished. The church remained in this state for sixty long years. For some time, the building was used as a granary, and then for storing sets for the Mosfilm film studio.
In 1964, work began on the examination and restoration of the temple domes. In the 1970s, work began on the complete restoration of the temple. During the restoration work, the foundation of the building was strengthened, holes and cracks in the walls were eliminated, the roof was covered, and the domes were gilded. The royal doors of the eighteenth century were found in the barn. They were restored and returned to the temple. The bells were cast anew, with the exception of one, which was miraculously preserved by the people.
In 1988, in honor of the celebration of the millennium of the baptism of Rus', the temple was returned to the Moscow Patriarchate. The church in the name of Michael the Archangel was consecrated in 1989 on February 23.

Archangel Michael
Holy Scripture mentions seven archangels, among whom Archangel Michael is the most famous and revered in the Orthodox world.
Icon of St. Archangel Michael
According to the Bible, it was this archangel that God entrusted to expel the founder of evil, the once beautiful angel, from paradise. John the Theologian writes in the “Apocalypse” (Rev. 12:7) that a war took place in Heaven between the forces of Light in the person of Archangel Michael, his warrior angels and the devil, Satan, who managed to carry away a third of God’s angelic army.

The icon of the Archangel Michael can be seen on the right side of the Royal Gate. Everyone who prays at the bright image gains a feeling of confidence and victory over the current circumstances.
Architecture
The temple has stood for seven centuries and has been destroyed more than once throughout history. After another fire, the church was built from brick, and the decorative elements that were used in the design of the Novodevichy Convent were repeated.
In architecture there has been a transition from the “Ukrainian” direction to the “Naryshkin baroque”. Therefore, the building combines rural church architecture with rich façade decoration. You can see the inherent elements for Russian churches, combined with Western architecture. It has several floors and rich decoration.
The Temple of Archangel Michael in Troparevo is a five-domed structure of a symmetrical composition with a three-story hipped bell tower. Windows with carved frames and walls create the appearance of elongating the building. The corners are decorated with columns. The bell tower was built earlier in the Moscow pattern style. The drums are octagonal in shape. The domes and crosses are gilded.
However, after fifty years of inactivity, the temple found itself in terrible condition. As a result of restoration work, the foundation was strengthened, the walls were restored, holes and cracks were eliminated, the domes were gilded, and the roof was re-roofed. The temple was given the royal doors of the eighteenth century, which were found in a coal shed. The bells were cast at one of the factories in the Urals. One of the residents brought a miraculously preserved bell.
Architecture
For seven centuries, the church suffered from frequent fires more than once. After another devastating fire, the Church of the Archangel Michael in Troparevo was built from brick, in which you can see details of the Novodevichy Convent. During this period, the Ukrainian style in architecture included elements of the Naryshkin Baroque. Therefore, the temple combines simple details of Russian churches with Western European architecture.
The structure of the symmetrical composition is decorated with five gilded domes. Semicircular apses at the base of the chapters give the impression of floating airiness. The corners of the cathedral are with majestic columns, the windows are decorated with white frames. Pretentiousness and originality gives the structure a unique look.

More than fifty years of neglect have made the building a dilapidated structure. As a result of the reconstructions, the foundation was strengthened, the walls were restored, the domes and crosses were updated, and the roof surface was covered. The Royal Doors were miraculously preserved in the barn; they were given to the church. One woman brought a bell as a gift, which she carefully kept throughout the years.
