Rudenskaya Icon of the Mother of God. Southern Russia, 1798. Wood, gesso, tempera. 14.5 x 12.5 cm. State Historical Museum, Moscow

She appeared in 1687 in the town of Rudna, Mogilev diocese.
In 1689, local priest Vasily transferred the icon of the Mother of God to the Kiev Ascension Pechersky Monastery. Since 1712, this image was in the Kiev Frolovsky Monastery, in Podol. In the 1920s, the miraculous image, placed in a beautiful chasuble decorated with diamonds, disappeared; apparently it was stolen from the temple. Now in the Ascension Cathedral you can venerate the list of the miraculous image.

Honored Lists

In the Kharkov province, Lebedinsky district, in the provincial town of Aleshvakh, in the Church of the Intercession there was another locally revered Rudensky icon of the Mother of God. It was painted by a Little Russian painter on canvas pasted on a board. Popular legend says that this image was brought from the Podolsk side, from the town of Brailov, by the priest Peter Andreev, who, fleeing persecution from the Uniates, around 1692 came with the most pure image to the Kharkov region.

There are also known copies of the Rudenskaya icon: in the village of Lubny, Lubny district, Poltava province; in the village of Olishevka, Kozeletsky district, Chernigov province, in some villages of the Rivne region, Grodno region and Vitebsk region.

Krylatsky list

The most famous list is considered to be the image of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which is located in the Moscow Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Krylatskoye. According to popular legend, approximately in the middle of the 19th century, the icon of the Mother of God was found by peasants of the village of Krylatskoye, who, coming early in the morning to a spring (and now full-flowing) in a ravine, saw a holy image in the grass. At the site of the appearance of the image, a chapel was erected in the name of the found Rudny icon, and a copy of the image was placed in the local Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

It is known that even before the October Revolution of 1917, residents of Krylatskoye ordered an All-Night Vigil and Liturgy on the day of the icon’s feast on October 12, toured many Moscow churches with the shrine, and organized long processions of the cross.

In 1936, this list of the Rudny Icon of the Mother of God was destroyed. However, the pre-revolutionary copy of the icon, located in the temple, was preserved by local residents. The renewed icon, handed over to the rector of the newly opened church in 1989, took its rightful place in it and became famous for the many miracles that occurred from it through the fervent prayers of the parishioners. In 1996, one of the thrones of the temple was consecrated in honor of the Rudny Icon of the Mother of God.

On the day of the celebration of the Rudny Icon of the Mother of God, many Orthodox residents of Moscow come to the source, consecrated by a miraculous image that once appeared at this place.

The miraculous Rudnenskaya Icon of the Mother of God was revealed in 1687 in the town of Rudnya, Mogilev diocese. In 1689, local priest Father Vasily moved it to the Kiev Pechersky Convent. Since 1712, the image of the Most Holy Theotokos resided in the Kiev Florovsky Monastery in Podol after its unification with the Kiev-Pechersk monastery. In the 1920s of the last century, the miraculous image, placed in a beautiful chasuble decorated with diamonds, disappeared; apparently it was stolen from the temple. But now in the Ascension Cathedral you can venerate the copy of the miraculous image. There are quite a few venerated copies of the miraculous Rudny Icon of the Mother of God. Among them is an ancient icon painted on canvas, which was in the Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the provincial town of Aleshki, Kharkov region. The icon, which is a copy of the CZENSTOCHOW image of the Mother of God, appeared in 1687 in the town of Rudnya, Mogilev diocese (now Smolensk region). The place was called Rudney because of the mines in the area for the extraction of iron ore. Since then, this image has been especially revered in many places in Belarus, Ukraine and Russia. On the territory of Russia, the Rudnensky image of the Blessed Virgin Mary is especially revered in the village of Krylatskoye, Moscow region. According to legend, the miraculous image appeared to local peasants in the middle of the 19th century, when the villagers came to drink water from the spring during haymaking. There is a completely different icon with the name Rudnenskaya, which is usually called RUDNENSKAYA RATKOVSKAYA (Ratkovskaya - from the word army).

The following lists from the Rudenskaya icon are also known: in the village of Bubny, Lubensky district, Poltava province; in the village of Olishevka, Kozeletsk district, Chernigov province and in the village of Krylatskoye, Moscow district.

Icon of the Mother of God “Rudnenskaya”

In a deep ravine in Krylatskoye, nicknamed Tatar since the times of the Golden Horde, at the intersection of three hills, there is a spring. The written news about him is only a few years “younger” than the news about the village of “Krylatskoye” itself, which the son of St. Grand Duke Dimitri Donskoy, Vasily Dmitrievich, gave it to his princess (1417). But even during the consecration of the porch Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which took place in 1554, the spring located not far from the temple was no different from the nearby springs, which also provided tasty and soft water. But at the beginning of the 19th century, an extraordinary event occurred, which subsequently gave the spring a new name - “Holy Well”. A local legend says: once the Krylat peasants were going to haymaking and came across an icon in the grass near a spring. It was the image of the Mother of God of Rudny. Miraculously, this icon appeared for the first time in 1687 in the town of Rudna, but it did not remain in the Mogilev diocese for long. The local priest Vasily transferred the venerated image to Kyiv, where the holy icon was placed in the church of the Pechersky Convent. In 1712, after the monastery was united with the Florovsky Monastery in Podol, the icon was transferred to it. A similar image was found in the Romensky hundred, in the village of Bubny of the Lubny regiment. Currently, the ancient icon is still kept in Kyiv, but the most famous list is considered to be the one located in Moscow, in the Krylatsky district. Apparently, due to our sins, it was not possible to preserve that miraculous image found by the villagers at the source, but the Queen of Heaven did not abandon those who worshiped Her Son. God's grace began to abundantly manifest itself through the lists of the Rudny Mother of God, so that it is still impossible to calculate the help that She provides to us, appearing as an intercessor before the Lord. Describing the patronage of the Mother of God, it is impossible not to mention everything that helped the people who lived in Krylatskoye preserve the true, pure faith in God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. It is known that even before 1917, the residents of Krylatskoe ordered a “shared contribution” on the day of the icon’s feast on October 12 (October 25 in the new style) and traveled with the shrine to many churches in Moscow. The revolution brought with it persecution of the church, which undermined faith in God in the minds of many people. In these troubled and alarming times, the true shepherd of the Church of Christ, the newly elected Patriarch Tikhon, visits the Krylatsky hills. Here, at the “Holy Well”, over which a chapel had already been built, where the miraculous image was kept, the saint held a prayer service. One can imagine with what faith and pain for Holy Rus' the words of prayers were pronounced, remaining forever in the memory of the villagers. Despite all the anti-religious propaganda, the residents of Krylatsky continued to order an all-night vigil and liturgy on the day of the celebration of the holy icon, and organize long processions of the cross. In 1936, the church was closed, and in order to establish atheism, a demonstrative “demonic play” was staged right in front of the temple on the square - the burning of icons. The woman, who took the Rudny Icon of the Mother of God into her unclean hands, threw it into the fire with a warlike smile on her face. However, a resident of Krylatskoye, Paraskeva Ivanovna Mukhina, managed to hide the pre-revolutionary list of the Rudny icon, which she subsequently transferred for safekeeping to her daughter Varvara. But what a great shock that justified faith in God was experienced by people when they heard terrible news during the war: a German plane that broke through the defense line dropped a single bomb, which hit one of the Krylat houses. The bomb did not explode, thanks to which the surrounding houses were not damaged, but the wall of the house it hit collapsed. It is not difficult to guess who slept with his child on the bed behind this wall. The same woman who has now replaced her warlike grin with a dead call: “Lord, save me!” But, like Judas, who gave 30 pieces of silver to the high priests, the blasphemous hands of the wicked woman, who wanted to break faith in God and betrayed the holy icon to fire, became her inexorable witness in that other, afterlife. Meanwhile, this incident became edifying even for those who doubted faith. Despite the fact that the temple was closed, the residents of Krylatskoye honored all holidays and received communion from a certain hieromonk, who cared for his small parish, scattered from home. Decades have passed. The list of the Rudny icon passed to the goddaughter of the mentioned Varvara - Lydia Ilyinichna Gruzdeva, who in 1990 transferred the revered icon to the dilapidated church. In a heavy curved old frame, the icon lay in front of the iconostasis on a lectern, and the carved luminous robe seemed to emphasize to everyone looking at the Mother of God with the Child of God: “Behold the Queen of Heaven, in her is our intercession.” On the heads of the divine Mother and Child, crowns shone like hemispheres. It took a long time to restore the temple, “with the whole world,” but there were not as many funds and people as was necessary for this. It was gratifying that those who came to help in the restoration of the temple first approached the image of the Rudny Mother of God, and then got to work. The youth Alexy was noticed to be especially zealous in this matter, coming to the temple earlier than his family. He grew up in a large family, without a father, and was a helper not only at home, but also in the temple. Very soon he became an altar boy, like everyone else, reading the hours, going down a high hill to get holy water to bring it to the temple. But the fact that this boy would become a vessel of God’s grace chosen by the Queen of Heaven could only be guessed after several events. Alyosha loved to pray, often came to church, but he was distinguished by an incessant desire to serve God. He always tried to be close to the priests, sing along with the choir at prayer services, and take care of the cleanliness of the temple. His soul truly sang its song to God. One day, while walking with friends on the way home from church, they met wicked people who had apparently been watching the workers of Christ for a long time, and who wanted to take away their faith in God. With threats they were asked to take off their crosses. The forces were clearly unequal, but only Alyosha was not afraid. Beaten, but keeping his faith, he came home with good news, like a soldier of Christ. A little more time passed, and the Most Pure One herself wanted to show Krylatsky’s people that they do not need to sit at home waiting for happiness, but should look for it not in the material world, but in the spiritual world, which has other moral values. While performing a prayer service at the spring at the rector of the church, Father Nicholas poured myrrh over the cross with bloody drops right in his hands. And on Easter, the Satanists killed Alyosha, cutting up his body and throwing him on those very hills, nicknamed “wings” for a long time, stretching from the Krylatsky village. Now there is no village, there is only the memory of it and of the faith that Moscow residents kept and keep. Many even now believe that Alyosha’s soul, like an Angel, flew up to heaven and ascended to that Most Pure Virgin, Whom he revered from early childhood, who took him under Her protection and brought him to the Tsar as a martyr of Christ. Several years passed, during which a lot of people really began to go to the temple, which, especially on holidays, could no longer accommodate all the people. On the day of the revered icon, many Moscow residents consider it their duty to come or come to the healing spring, which quickly gained fame with many miracles that occurred from the Rudny Mother of God, who once sanctified the waters of the “Holy Well” with her appearance. It is impossible to count all the healings, but we will cite one testimony of Priest Mikhail Kolyupanov about the healing of a lame man. One day a man with a crutch entered the temple, approached the miraculous image, prayed, and suddenly felt an extraordinary strength in his legs. With joy, he threw away his crutch and went home without it, praising God and the zealous Intercessor. The current rector, Father George, has made many efforts in restoring the temple. In 1996, to the joy of everyone who flocked with faith to the revered icon, the throne was consecrated to the glory of the Mother of God of Rudny, and a few years later the temple itself was expanded.

Canon of the Most Holy Theotokos in front of the Rudnenskaya Icon

Song 1.

Irmos:

I will open my mouth, and I will be filled with the Spirit, and I will vomit a word to the Queen Mother, and I will appear, brightly triumphant, and I will sing, rejoicing, These are miracles.

Most pure and blessed Lady Theotokos, hear the voice of my prayer, have mercy on me, a sinner, perishing, Most Pure Mother of God, and instead of sorrow, grant me joy, yes, rejoicing, I sing praises to Thee, All-Holy Lady.

Calm my soul, my ferocity, before much sorrow and sorrow has attacked me, a sinner, so that I may not perish evilly, the accursed one.

For You are my strength, and confirmation, and protection from enemies, and for this reason I am not afraid of the enemy’s reproach, but I sing and praise Thee, O All-Glorious One.

Misfortunes, and troubles, and many sorrows have come upon me and burdened me, and with all my heart I pray to Thee, crying: deliver, O Mother of God, from these evils and sorrows that beset me liya do it.

Song 3.

Irmos:

Thy hymn-speakers, Mother of God, Living and Unenvious Source, spiritually establish the face of the whole body, in Thy Divine glory the crowns of glory of the Lord.

You are the warm Representative and firm intercession, deliver me, All-Holy One, from the misfortunes that have come upon me, for You, O Lady, have corrected those who have fallen.

Deliver me, O Most Pure One, from these misfortunes and troubles, and spiritual darkness, and despondency, and all passions, take away from me, O Pure One, and may I ever glorify Thee, the Lady.

I flow to You, Most Pure One: do not despise my illness and sighing, but look upon me, who is in sorrow, and turn this sorrow of mine into joy, O Blessed One.

See, O Lady, my misfortune and sorrow, for in those the evil enemy strives to devour me, but You, Most Pure Mother of God, thwart his evil cunning deceit, yes, get rid of me, I will glorify Ty, the Firm Intercessor.

Song 4.

Irmos:

Seated in Glory on the Throne of the Divine in a light cloud, the Most Divine Jesus came with His Imperishable Hand and those who saved called: Glory, O Christ, to Thy power.

You are, Most Pure Mother of God, my indestructible hope and affirmation, and liberation from severe troubles, and consolation in sorrow, and enlightenment of my soul, and an unshakable pillar in my hope.

In these sorrows, be sweet consolation and in troubles, a quick Helper, You, Mother of God, those who have acquired from all troubles are delivered and are guided to salvation.

You are, O Most Pure Virgin, and you are a refuge for those in despair, and you help the weak, you correct sinners and guide them to salvation, as you are the Mother of God.

Bow down to the prayers of Your servant, O Lady, and do not hesitate to deliver me from all these troubles and sorrows that have overpowered me, both visible and invisible enemies, drive me away from me, and let them not be evil. I will perish, damned one.

Song 5.

Irmos:

Everyone was terrified of Your Divine glory: You, the Unartificed Virgin, had in your womb God above all and gave birth to the Flightless Son, giving peace to all who sang Your praises.

Judge the one who offends me and deliver me, the condemned, from vain insult, for You have given birth to the Righteous Judge, the All-blameless One, who wants to repay anyone according to his deeds.

You mercifully protect in adversity and sorrow, and here, under Your shelter, accept, Most Pure One, and this little prayer of mine from a sad heart, may I not die in despair .

With your merciful and meek eye, Mother of God, and with Your mercy, look upon me, unworthy, and the current adversity of freedom, calling upon You for help, O All-Pure One.

Primordial Adam and Eve were freed from tears by You, Most Pure One. With them, I fall down to You and pray: may your mercy take away my painful tears and provide useful help and consolation.

Song 6.

Irmos:

This divine and all-honorable celebration, O God of Wisdom, Mother of God, come, let us clasp our hands, from Him we glorify the God who was born.

Inspire the sad cry of Your servant, demanding Your help, Mother of God: For You are my hope, try to turn my sorrow into joy.

Deliver me, Mother of God, from the tongue of flattery and from the unrighteous man, free me from memory: You can do all things, as the Mother of the Creator of my existence.

I, O God-gracious One, am a hard-working Healer, and I, weak in spirit, call upon You: free me from these misfortunes and sorrows and save me, O Lady, who has come running to You.

Deliver me from this misfortune and misfortune, Bride of God, for God has arranged for the salvation and intercession of the present Intercessor, for this reason, for my sake, unworthy, intercede for freedom from sowing sorrow.

Kontakion, voice 6:

Not imams of other help, not imams of other hope, unless You, Lady, help us: we hope in You and we boast in You, for we are Your servants, let us not be ashamed.

Ikos:

Stretch out Thy hand, and Thou hast received the Lord, like a Child, for His abundance of goodness: do not forsake us, who always hope in Thee, Thy invigorated prayer, and innumerable simplicity Show us mercy with it, and grant to our souls Your mercy, flowing forever. For you, imams, sinners, the Intercessor from the troubles and evils that come upon us. But, since you have the mercy of generosity, hasten to prayer and strive to entreat, interceding ever since, the Mother of God, those who honor Thee.

Song 7.

Irmos:

Having not served the creation of God’s Wisdom more than the Creator, but, having bravely overcome the fiery rebuke, I rejoice, singing: O venerable father, Lord and God, blessed art thou.

You are, Most Pure Mother of God, my Patroness and the constant joy of my soul, but, O Lady Theotokos, do not despise me, possessed by fierce misfortune and inconsolable sadness.

You are my fortress, Most Pure Lady, and in the unexpected sorrows that have come upon me there is consolation, and for this reason I, Your unworthy servant, cry out to You with all confidence: have mercy on me, fallen

Heal the wounds of my soul, O Lady, and protect me, Thy servant, and deliver me from this unrighteous slander and from all slander, and from corruption, O Most Blessed One.

Crossed the advice of the unlawful, and also to the might of the sophistication, the same was not the same to the Imam, I wailed to you, pure, and I am resorting to you: I don’t let Miuzit, I am all possible for you.

Song 8.

Irmos:

The pious youths in the cave saved the Nativity of the Theotokos; Then what was formed, now in action, raises up the entire universe to sing to You: Sing to the Lord, you doers, and exalt Him to all ages.

Save my soul under the roof of Your wing, Blessed Mother of God, deliver me from the various troubles and sorrows that befall me, so that my enemy will not rejoice over my death, but may I glorify You, the God Mother, forever.

I was afraid to seek human help, but I ran to You, All-Immaculate One, You are the all-reliable Guardian of Christians; Today I have come running to Your protection, hoping for the mercy of Your compassion, but You have motherly mercy on me, so that I may glorify You forever.

You are, Most Pure One, my enlightenment and deliverance, You are my all-joyful Helper, and the indestructible wall, and my glory, and my praise, All-Immaculate Virgin, I earnestly bow to You and cry out: save I, the despairing one, may I glorify You.

I place all the hope of my salvation in Thee, Unartful Mother of God, and I call on Thee for help: save me from this sorrow and misfortune, resolve the captivity of my evils and deliver me from all sorrows May I glorify You forever.

Song 9.

Irmos:

Let every earth-born leap, let us be enlightened by the Spirit, let the nature of the disembodied minds triumph, honoring the sacred triumph of the Mother of God, and let it cry out: Rejoice, All-Blessed Mother of God, Pure Ever-Virgin .

I am gone, as if my strength has become poor, from sorrow and from the soul-destroying ulcers that are approaching hell, preceded, O Mother of God, by Her intercession from the sorrows that beset me by the hand of Thy mercy, so that I bow to You, Pure Ever-Virgin.

All-immaculate Youth, strong Helper and hope of Christians to all the faithful, give me a constant Prayer Book to Your Son and God, glorified in the Trinity, and grant liberation from ours Those who came to harm me, let me cry out to You: Rejoice, Ever-Virgin.

You are my fortress, Most Pure, and refuge, and an invincible wall, You are a warm Prayer Book to God, free me from all misfortunes and misfortunes, the only Blessed One, and those who fight for me Let me loose myself like dust, so I sing to You: Rejoice, Most Blessed Mother of God, Pure Ever-Virgin.
