Temple in honor of the Icon of the Mother of God “Healer”
was consecrated in 1992 at the Research Institute of Clinical Psychiatry of the Scientific Center for Mental Health of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences on Kashirskoe Highway.
History[edit]
In 1995, the leadership of the Federal Postal Service Administration and the hierarchy of the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Valaam Monastery signed an agreement on joint social activities. The center of this activity was the departmental hospital - Medical Unit No. 33, located at: Moscow, st. Malakhitovaya, house 16.
As part of the agreement, the clergy of the Moscow metochion of the Valaam Monastery were to perform church services and catechetical conversations with patients in the hospital.
Four years later, on the initiative of a team of hospital employees and patients, a house church was built on the ground floor of the building. This was preceded by extensive renovation work in the premises provided by the hospital. Donations from benefactors were used to buy liturgical books and church utensils. A baptistery for baptism with full immersion was built in the temple. A small belfry was built next to the temple.
On October 2, 1999, with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Rus', the temple was consecrated in honor of the “Healer” icon of the Mother of God. The consecration of the temple and the first Divine Liturgy were performed by the rector of the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Valaam Monastery, Bishop Pankratiy.
The temple is included in the register of Orthodox churches in Moscow and is assigned to the Moscow courtyard of the Valaam Monastery.
The past years have shown great demand for the temple not only among medical personnel and hospital patients, but also among residents of the nearby area. The rector of the church, Archpriest Alexander Pakhomov, was awarded church awards and a Letter of Gratitude from the Head of the Rostokino Administration for his active social activities.
Despite the upcoming repurposing of the building in which Medical Unit No. 33 was located, divine services are regularly held in the house church of the Icon of the Mother of God “Healer” and active catechetical activities continue: a Sunday school has been opened, which is attended by about 50 people. There is an Orthodox library at the temple, the collections of which number more than 3 thousand books. A video library of Orthodox films has been collected.
The subject for the icon of the Mother of God the Healer was a miraculous healing
The miraculous icon of the Mother of God was in the Tsilkan temple in Kartalinya. The icon depicts the Mother of God standing at the bedside of a sick cleric.
The plot for the iconography of this image was the legend of how the miraculous healing took place. This healing was described in the work of St. Dmitry of Rostov.
Dimitri Rostovsky in his essay talked about a sick cleric who was healed by the Mother of God herself
His essay describes how one sick cleric was seriously ill. He suffered from a disease that causes death. Nobody could help him. The sick cleric had one hour when the clock struck, and it was necessary to give praise to the Lady Theotokos with the greeting “Hail, Full of Grace!” He attached a prayer to it. He prayed day and night. Even if he fell asleep, he would wake up when the clock struck and then pray.
When he was about to die, and his time was drawing to a close, the Virgin Mary appeared to him. Further we see the following words: “...slightly opening Her virgin nipple and squeezing it, she sprinkles milk on the sick person’s lips and becomes invisible. As a result of this incident, the sick man jumped up, quickly put on his clerical vestments and ran to the church...”
The Mother of God heals a sick cleric who prayed to Her every day at the same time
When he walked into his church choir, everyone was very surprised that he was alive. No one thought of seeing him alive anymore. When they asked him how he remained alive, he began to glorify the miracles of the Most Holy Theotokos. This is how the Mother of God saved him from death.

Description and meaning in Orthodoxy
The full-length painting of the icon depicts the Most Holy Theotokos healing a hopeless patient. She stands at the bedside of a weak cleric, wearing red and blue clothes decorated with pearls, and a halo around her head. On the folding doors there is an image of Archangel Michael on the left, and Archangel Gabriel on the right. Two saints seem to be supporting the icon. The entire surface of the folded chasuble is decorated with diamonds.
The first miracle of healing occurred with a singer from the Navarna church. His name was Vikenty Bulvinensky. He always, entering the doors of the temple, fell on his face before the holy image of the Mother of God, each time saying a prayer. Unfortunately he became seriously ill. The patient's tongue festered, he could not make a single sound, and he was tormented by unbearable pain. At times the cleric fell into unconsciousness.
Each time he regained consciousness, he repeated in his thoughts the words of his daily prayer. One day he saw a Guardian Angel in the form of a charming young man at the head of his bed. He read a prayer, asking him to heal the sick man. The Mother of God herself appeared at the bed.
She sprinkled her milk on the lips of the terminally ill man and disappeared. After this, the singer recovered in one second, immediately went to church service, where, to the surprise of everyone, he began to sing. This miracle of healing was captured in the plot of the icon. The theological meaning of the iconography is that the believer must constantly pray to the Mother of God for healing and expect it, without falling into a state of despondency. The right time will come, and the Lord will answer the request, clothed in prayer.

The Georgian original of “The Healer” was kept in Kartalinia (a region of modern Georgia). It was considered the property of the Tsilkan Cathedral Church. It was lost. There is no information about him.
The Moscow icon, which performed miracles of healing, was first kept in the Alekseevsky convent.
When the 30s of the 19th century arrived, she was transported to Krasnoe Selo. There she spent some time within the walls of the Novo-Alekseevsky Monastery. Later, the icon, which performed miracles of healing, was transferred for storage to the Church of the Resurrection of Christ, which is located in Sokolniki.
Where can you find famous lists?
The miraculous power of lists is known. Copies with the image of the Virgin Mary imprinted on them can be seen in clinics, churches and hospital chapels opened at medical centers. They pray to the icon in many almshouses. People turn to the Mother of God with requests when they really feel bad. They are asking for healing. The Mother of God does not make everyone happy with her help.
It relieves people from illnesses who think about the meaning of life, are grateful to God for it, and always glorify the Lord and the Virgin Mary. As in ancient times, the saint heals the sick in response to their humility. Several churches were built in Russia to the glory of the “Healer” icon:
- Oncological dispensary in Perm;
- Regional Hospital No. 2 Tyumen;
- Medical Center of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation.
The subject depicted on the lists may differ in small details, but on all of them, without exception, the Mother of God stands, stretching out her hand to the sick person. For centuries, the Queen of Heaven has helped Christians suffering from illnesses. Miraculous healings are not uncommon; they also happen to our contemporaries.
Origin story
The first mention of the miraculous power of the image of the Holy Mother of God, depicted on an Orthodox icon, dates back to the 4th century. It was written in Iveria (the territory of modern Georgia), when Nina, a famous Christian educator, lived there. This saint led her people to Orthodoxy.
In Russia, they also revered an image called “Our Lady of Healing.” It was created in the 18th century. A miraculous sign was taken as the basis for Russian iconography. It was described in detail by Dmitry of Rostov (the saint). He spoke about the miraculous healing of a terminally ill church minister in his book “The Irrigated Fleece.”
Lyrics
With the blessing of the priest, a believer can read an akathist to the Mother of God and a prayer to the “Healer” icon outside the walls of the temple (at home, in a hospital ward). Those who are just starting to pray and read the akathist, chants and the prayer itself should listen to the recording. Their printed texts are in every prayer book.
Prayer
“Presently, O All-Blessed, All-Powerful Mistress, Master of the Theotokos, with prayers, with tears, now from us, Thy worthy servants, to Thy purpose to the beneficial image of the souls of those who send them with a tender heart, as if they were the very present and heedful prayer of ours.

Do not cease to pray for us, Thy worthy servants, who glorify Thee, who honor Thee, who worship with affection the Most Holy Image of Thy, who hope for the return of the powerful, and who doubt the faith in Thyself, Pr. սснодꬲвꬲ More glorious and Nꬲvicious, now ꬲ ս prսsno ս in ꬲкս вꬲkov. Amen."
Akathist
Akathist is a church hymn glorifying the Mother of God. It consists of 13 songs of praise (kontakia) and 12 lengthy songs (ikos). First the kontakion is read, then the corresponding ikos. Lengthy songs are not read separately from songs of praise. Healthy people always perform chants while standing, while seriously ill people recite the text while lying down. The ancient Greek word akathist means non-seated singing.
The last kontakion is repeated three times, this is an ancient tradition. The text of the 13th song of praise contains words addressed to the Mother of God herself: “O All-Sweet Mother of our Sweetest Lord Jesus Christ, mercifully just a little of our prayers, having delivered us from all adversity, pain nor sudden death and grant us heirs of the existence of the Kingdom of heaven and All the saints praise Thy Son and our God: Halleluah.”
Reading the akathist is allowed on all days except during Lent. You need to read the songs in the morning. After reading the 13th kontakion three times, recite the text of the first ikos, the first kontakion, and then say a prayer.
