The temple was built in 1689 under the leadership of the royal steward Theodore Ivanov Kosmin. The temple was consecrated in 1691.

Initially, the temple was made of red brick with white stone decoration, high white stone gates and an elongated onion dome without a bell tower. The village in which the temple is located began to be called “the village of Bogorodskoye, Kostino also.”

In 1835, Princess Dolgorukova, the owner of the estate, repaired the temple and built a temporary wooden bell tower. In 1862, the princess's daughter built a stone one instead of a temporary bell tower.

Alexander Nikolaevich Kraft, the last owner of the estate and the last head of the church, installed central heating in the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin.

About the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary

History of the temple

In 1635, a stone church was erected (information about an earlier wooden church has not been preserved). The construction of the temple was completed in 1688 with the diligence of the royal steward Theodore Ivanovich Kosmin. The new church was consecrated in 1689 in the name of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

In 1835, the owner of Kostino, Princess Ekaterina Gavrilovna Dolgorukova, repaired the church and added a temporary wooden bell tower. Her daughter Varvara Nikitichna replaced this building with a stone one in 1862.

Near the church, on the site of the current five-story building on the street. Dzerzhinsky, there was a small two-story clergy house. Dzerzhinsky Street itself, along its entire length, runs through the cemetery, which was adjacent to the territory of the church.

After the revolution, the church was destroyed, and in Khrushchev’s times it was completely destroyed, at the same time the clergy house was demolished.

In 1995, with the blessing of Metropolitan Juvenaly of Krutitsy and Kolomna, the revival of the parish in Kostino began. In 1999, with the arrival of Father Boris (Kulikovsky), regular services resumed after a break of more than half a century. Coordination began on a project for the construction of a temple building near the site of the destroyed ancient church. The central dome crowning the tent is at a height of 51.5 m.

On July 14, 2003, on the day of the summer saints Cosmas and Damian, the construction of the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary began. In the first construction season, we managed to complete the zero cycle. On October 26, 2003, on the day of the celebration of the Iveron Icon of the Mother of God, a Stone was laid under the main altar of the temple. On July 14, 2005, a thanksgiving prayer service was held - the first service in the new church. On November 11, 2005, a cross rose above the built temple.

On Christmas Day 2006, the opening of the lower chapel of the temple dedicated to the holy Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian took place. During the construction season of 2006, finishing of the upper church, installation of the roof, and decoration of the entrances began.

History[edit]

The first mention of the village of Kostino is found in the grant books of 1585. In 1689, the Novgorod boyars Kozmina built a stone church here, consecrating it in 1691 in honor of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It took about two years to finish and equip the temple. The church was small, made of red brick with white stone decoration, high white stone gates and an elongated onion dome. The bell tower of the temple was built in the 19th century. in the same style. Near the church there was a small two-story clergy house.

In the 1920s the temple was closed. At first, the church was only partially destroyed: the ancient five-tier iconostasis was destroyed, church utensils and icons were looted, including the main shrine - the miraculous Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God, which had been in the altar of the temple for more than two centuries. In 1931, a labor commune for juvenile delinquents was located in Kostino, and the church building was rebuilt as a radio center, and later used for various economic needs of the commune. The bell tower was destroyed. People lived in the former temple, there was a sewing workshop and a darkroom. In 1954-1955 plant PO Box 901 (now the State Research and Production Center "Zvezda-Strela") built a standard residential building on the foundation of a destroyed church. On June 16, 1995, residents decided to revive the temple in Kostin, which is now part of the city of Korolev. On Sundays, prayers began for the speedy restoration of the destroyed shrine. That same summer, a memorial cross was erected near the place where the ancient temple stood. In December 1999, the community was provided with temporary premises to transform it into a church (now it is a Sunday school).

On January 13, 2000, the first Divine Liturgy was celebrated, marking the beginning of regular services.

In 2001, a preliminary design for the revival of the temple near its historical site was developed. Taking into account the modern needs of the city, the temple was designed on two levels, with a total capacity of 1200 people. The upper chapel is dedicated to the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, and the lower chapel is dedicated to the Apostle John the Theologian. Construction began on July 14, 2003.

10.26.2003 - completion of the zero cycle, laying of the stone took place.

11.11.2005 - completion of construction.

01/6/2006 - resumption of services in the revived church after a half-century break.

On May 15, 2007, on the Sunday of the Myrrh-Bearing Women, the consecration of the lower church in honor of St. Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian.
