«If God really existed, he should be destroyed.»
— Mikhail Bakunin

So, we have One God, the All-Father, the creator and sole ruler of the world. He is omnipotent, and there is no power equal to him. Everything he wishes will come true. There is no point in fighting him, because all mortals and not-so-mortals are pitiful worms before his supermundane, timeless power. All who do not obey him will suffer a well-deserved, fair punishment. The so-called “free will”, or, simply, the tendency to sin, will be eradicated on Earth - by the forces of good shepherds building an ideal righteous society, and in Heaven - by the will of Himself. In any case, that’s what it says in the Bible and that’s what the priests say. What if you think about it? Maybe if God were so omnipotent, he wouldn’t have to fight or eradicate anything, since he simply did everything the way he needed from the very beginning? No, God had an equal (or at least comparable in strength) Opponent. The highest of the angels who started a rebellion. Morning Star

. Lucifer.

This trope is a translation of a more ancient archetype - Prometheus - into the language of Christian symbolism. God is the author of prohibitions and restrictions, and Satan, as his enemy, is the one who seeks to break these prohibitions. The image of the good Lucifer is based on some of the inherent traits of the biblical Lucifer: love of freedom, rebellion, knowledge. During the times of feudalism and absolute monarchies, for obvious reasons, they were not very held in high esteem, so only the most important bastard was worthy of possessing them (but his hangers-on and smaller bastards are no longer there, the selfish Satan will not share his freedom ). In the Renaissance, these moral standards increasingly began to be revised (already Lucifer from Milton’s “Paradise Lost” is in many ways close to the image of the Morning Star, although he is still evil), and in modern times the atheistic ethics of humanism generally triumphed, according to which rebellion is not always good, but also not something bad a priori. If the government is evil, you can rebel against it. If God is also evil, then Lucifer can be good.

While Prometheus is credited with the creation of technology (fire is the only thing that finally got to Zeus), with the light Lucifer everything is more radical: he can be credited with the creation of the human mind itself. Yes, the biblical story of the Fall, if you think about it, is that Adam and Eve changed themselves greatly - so much, say, that they began to be ashamed of nakedness, although they had not done this before, and, of course, this was not the only consequence.

Accordingly, this is the trope “Melkor was good” as applied to the Bible and Christian mythology in general. It differs from simple inversion in that Lucifer does not write his own commandments, he only suggests how to break others. The Morning Star is not a just heavenly king (like the One God in the non-evil version), but a rebel and tyrant fighter.

A possible subversion is the classic evil Satan, who enjoys seeing people suffer, but who, for the sake of his political interests among mortals, maintains a good reputation and often resorts to the image of the Morning Star.

Where it occurs[edit]

  • In the views of some modern Satanists, Lucifer is depicted as the Morning Star.
  • And that’s also the name of the weapon. And in his honor one brilliant musician took a pseudonym for himself...

Literature[edit]

  • Byron, mystery "Cain" - Lucifer. At the same time, forgive the pun, he is far from an “angel”: “Fall down and bow to me as a ruler!” And “Luceaferul” Eminescu.
  • M. Yu. Lermontov, “Demon”.
  • Shelley, "The Outrage of Islam":
  • « He was like the light that breathes in the heights, On golden clouds, in the clear azure, With the Pre-dawn Star on his forehead, He appeared to me as a winged youth, He appeared intoxicated in the sweet darkness. And so he breathed, he leaned so close, he looked, he pressed his lips to his, handsome and bold, and he sealed a long kiss. And he said: “The Spirit loves you, O virgin. How, mortal, will you be worthy?” »
    — Translation by K. Balmont

To make it clear to the reader what the reference is: this girl is on the side of the Snake in the battle between the Eagle and the Snake, greatly surprising the narrator.

    • Anatole France, "Rise of the Angels". 1914, by the way.
    • Robert Heinlein, “Job, or the Mockery of Justice”: Yahweh is an evil, quarrelsome tyrant; his brother Lucifer is a man in the prime of his life, a great lover of jokes (sometimes very painful) and rewarding according to deeds (and not according to how well deeds correspond to the scriptures). A kind of “Master and Margarita” made in USA.
    • Pullman, “His Dark Materials” - with the fuse screwed on: There is no Devil as such in the books, instead there is a unification of many races under the leadership of the man Lord Asriel. However, a plot about fallen angels appears, and Xaphania, the leader of the rebel angels, can be called that if you wish.
    • Vadim Archer, “Who Chose the Abyss.”
    • Alan Campbell, Scar Night - The Church serves the God living directly below it in the Abyss, who was cast into it after he, along with an army of angels, rebelled against God in Heaven.
    • Roger Zelazny: “Again and Again” - Lucifer-Prometheus-Loki in the person of an unnamed protagonist.
    • "Jack of the Shadows" That’s what they call him there - the Morning Star, but here he is fallen, deprived of power and imprisoned by other gods right on the border of day and night.
  • Dmitry Yemets, “Mefodiy Buslaev” - subversion. The Supreme Guardian of the Darkness Kvodnon, an allusion to Lucifer, tries to appear to his minions as a noble rebel and system hacker, but in reality he has already been reborn into good old Satan.
  • O. Volkhovsky, “People of Fire” - inversion. The devil, tired of being the executioner of the Almighty, tries to do good and benefit people. At the same time, he strives for his goal precisely through the establishment of radical prohibitions: according to his program, it is necessary to take away people’s freedom of choice and “order” them to become kind and happy.
  • Fanfiction[edit]

    • "The Black Book of Arda", anti-fanfiction on the Tolkien universe. Melkor was, was good!

    Comics[edit]

    • DC Comics (and at the same time Vertigo) - Lucifer Morningstar. In fact, he remains so after his rebellion as the right hand of the Lord as the administrator of Hell. Plays the piano very well. He is also in the television series of the same name performed by Tom Ellis.
  • “Demon Fighter” - Satan here embodies precisely this archetype.
  • Anime and manga[edit]

    • Shoujo Kakumei Utena (manga) - Akio's name itself means "morning star", in addition, in the original manga by Chiho Saito, he was the "evil half" of Prince Dios, rebelling against his overly compassionate alter ego. The soul of Dios moved into Utena, and Akio became a kind of dark Prometheus of Ootori Academy, manipulating students for his own purposes and opening their eyes to the unsightly sides of this world.

    Visual novels[edit]

    • Monster Girl Quest - Lucifina, the protagonist's mother
, was the first fallen angel to rebel against the not-so-good Ilias. Actually, Morning Star is her nickname, as well as the name of her favorite move. Although the role of Prometheus here is played not by her, but by another, less clear-cut character.

    Board games[edit]

    • The tabletop setting “Demon: Fallen” from the old World of Darkness plays on the theme in a zigzag way: Lucifer honestly wanted what was best for people. He didn’t even intend to become a rebel, he and the other rebel angels simply had their brains exploded from the mutually exclusive orders of God (who, in turn, behaved exactly like the Evil Yahweh and in that he would never give people the opportunity to rise to the level of reason creatures, and to punish those who still rose). But during the war between the rebellious angels and those loyal to the master, a significant part of the former first decided that they could decide what was better for people, for the people themselves, then - that some of them could be sacrificed... All this only led to the fact that the rebel army disintegrated and disintegrated, was defeated and was cast into Hell, where the fallen angels, from the consciousness that they were cursed and abandoned, as well as from the torment they endured, mutated into classic devils with horns, who take pleasure in brutally tormenting and torturing someone. But it’s precisely that Lucifer plays the trope straight! Without any zigzags, like his low-power henchmen. He did not turn into any monster, and he did not fall into the Abyss. Of course, many of his actions raise questions, but... He is exactly the classic example of a trope without any zigzags.

    Real life[edit]

    • In the syncretic religion of the Yazidis, the local Lucifer - Tavusi-Malak - is good, almost like Melkor in the ChKA, with the only exception being that God is not bad either. One of the Yazidi holy books is called the Black Book (“Mashafe Rash”). According to the Yazidis, Tavusi-Malak was cast into hell for refusing to bow to Adam, but over seven thousand years he drowned him with tears, mourning the fate of sinners, and was forgiven and restored to the leadership of the angels (on whom the Yazidi religion is focused much more strongly than on God). A similar religion is practiced by the Yazidis' neighbors, the Shabak, with their holy book "Buiruk".
    • As you might guess, Yazidis have a very difficult time surrounded by Muslims - they are mistaken for Satanists.

    XVII Star of Lucifer.

The star of Lucifer, the morning star, is called the planet ♀ Venus.

Venus, the second most distant planet from the ☼ Sun and the closest planet to Earth in the solar system, astronomical sign.
Venus was also known as the Morning Star, Hesperus, Vesper, the Evening Star, Phosphorus, Lucifer. The average distance from the Sun is 108 million km (0.723 astronomical units). The sidereal period is 224 days. 16 hours 49 minutes 8 seconds. For an observer on Earth, the angular distance of Venus from the Sun does not exceed 48°, as a result of which it is visible only for some time shortly before its rise (morning star). Venus is the brightest luminary (after the Sun and Moon) in the earth's sky. At its maximum brightness it reaches magnitude 4.4; the phases of Venus (discovered by G. Galileo in 1610) can be noticed by people with exceptionally good eyesight with the naked eye.

The astrological mysticism of Venus was determined by the special proportion of its rotation, opposite to the movement of all other planets in the solar system. One got the impression that Venus is a “planet in reverse.” Therefore, she was often called Lucifer and endowed with demonic traits and was seen as a counterweight to the Sun. Sometimes “Venus” meant the “star Wormwood” mentioned in the Apocalypse. Venus is a symbol of external, carnal beauty. Therefore, she was called “Morning Star” or “Day Day”.

According to the esoteric legend of a number of Indo-European tribes, the “white race” originates from Venus. The “Children of Venus” - the Luciferites - were opposed to the rest of humanity. The alchemical metal of Venus is copper. Its musical counterpart is the note G. Animals of Venus - bull, panther, goat, seal; birds - dove and sparrow; plants - verbena, fig tree; stones - emerald, garnet, chrysolite. The color semantics of the planet is blue. Countries under the patronage of Venus are Persia, Spain, India; cities - Vienna, Paris, Florence.

"Lucifer" is a dim morning star, a harbinger of the dazzling radiance of the midday sun

, "Eosphorus" of the Greeks. It twinkles timidly at sunset to accumulate strength and dazzle the eyes after sunset like its own brother, “Hesperus” - the shining star, or planet Venus. There is no more suitable symbol for the proposed work than to shed a ray of truth on everything that is hidden in the darkness of prejudice, social or religious errors; especially those caused by that idiotically routine way of life, which, as soon as an act, thing or name has been disgraced by a slanderous fabrication, however unjust it may be, makes so-called respectable people turn away with a shudder and refuse even to even look at it with any respect. any other side, except that which is sanctioned by public opinion.

Therefore, such an attempt to force cowardly people to face the truth is very effectively helped by the name classified as cursed names.

Devout readers may object that the word "Lucifer" is accepted by all churches as one of the many names of the devil. According to Milton's grand fantasy, Lucifer is Satan, the "rebellious" angel, the enemy of God and man. But if you analyze his rebellion, you cannot find anything more evil in it than the demand for free will and independent thought.

Lucifer, the bringer of light, is a natural teacher and mentor for any magician.

    Lucifer - planet ♀ Venus

, like the bright “Morning Star”, is nothing more than the Light of the Supreme Soul reflected in rough earthly matter or the “inverted” Christ, therefore Lucifer is translated as the bearer of Light - the spark that gave birth to the human intellect or the “false light”, without which the lower animal soul a person could never be enlightened by the True Light of the Supreme World Soul. Therefore, in “Revelation” (ХХП, 16) the Christian Savior puts into his mouth the words about himself: “I am... the bright and morning star” or Lucifer.

Lucifer is the feminine principle of God.

The feminine nature of Lucifer is the basis on which “he” is correlated with Venus, the Morning Star and is found to correspond with those properties and associations that have traditionally been considered feminine: such as instinct, beauty, pride, and, of course, temptation.

    Venus-Lucifer,

the morning star rising before the sun belongs to that type of emotional activity which, symbolically speaking, precedes the self. This is not necessarily an extroverted, particularly intense or unrestrained type of emotionality, although this is often the general tendency. This is the type of person who comes out to meet the world, first of all, to meet other people with greedy anticipation, as if life itself depended on the result of the meeting; if, however, this expectation ends in disappointment, the person may appear outwardly cold and withdrawn, but this is only a mask of self-defense.

Venus-Lucifer represents the quality of youthful experiences. The strings of feelings are stretched to the limit. A feeling of personal insecurity prevails; feelings serve as guides and pointers. Later, perhaps, these feelings will receive the more mature and respectable name of intuition, but the nature of the process remains essentially the same. One feels situations and people in an act of almost immediate ethical judgment. They are good or bad specifically for him and at a specific time. He acts according to his feeling, how he needs to act, very often infecting with his feeling, his warmth. This type includes (if you choose at random) Walt Whitman, Richard Wagner, Vincent Van Gogh, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Napoleon I, Mussolini, Maria Montessori (the great teacher), F. Roosevelt; This is Venus in the US birth chart.

Morning Venus creates magnetic fields and archetypes, that is, it gives form to the spiritual release of solar energy, the source of all manifestations, and not a specific, physical form (which belongs to the sphere of Saturn), but an archetypal spiritual pattern of energy, a network of electro-magnetic forces. A person with a strong Venus-Lucifer in his birth chart naturally strives to project his vision and purpose of life into the world, to impose on those around him the rhythm of his essential being. He feels like a proclaimer, a mouthpiece for God, pouring himself out emotionally and often proudly into his creations. This emotional outpouring can be neutralized by other factors

This zodiacal arcana corresponds to ♒ Aquarius:

♒ Aquarius has two rulers: ♅ Uranus and ♄ Saturn. They endowed ♒ Aquarians with breadth of mind, intelligence and the ability to penetrate the most mysterious secrets of the universe. The main driving idea and force of ♒ Aquarius is some higher idea, which he strives to immediately bring to life. This often makes him incomprehensible to others and sometimes brings suffering ♒ Aquarius, who strives to communicate with people. He wants to reveal to people some of the secrets known to him, he is often endowed with clairvoyant abilities, and can act as a soothsayer or magician.

However, internal inconsistency prevents full self-expression, which makes Aquarius irritable and pushes others away from him. Constant attempts to reconcile and balance your inner depth and mystery with external energy and simplicity can hinder Aquarius in life. Meanwhile, this is one of the most humane and altruistic signs. If Aquarius has a strong will, he can curb his passions and ultimately achieve what he wants. This is facilitated by determination and stubbornness.

The basis of the nature of any ♒ Aquarius is duality. At the same time, they strive for universal love and fame, ideal spirituality and material well-being, independence and prestige. However, they rarely give themselves entirely to any impulse, preferring some contemplation. However, the strong type ♒ Aquarius can be very active and adamant. They have very developed intuition, but a weak type can become jealous, insensitive, and unfriendly, especially if he is obsessed with the desire to get ahead.

In love they are very sentimental, mystical and chaste. They enter into marriage very reluctantly, even if we are talking about great love, because they instinctively hate any fetters, even happy ones. They rarely focus on family, preferring friends or the good of humanity as a whole. The tendency to idealize often leads them to bitter disappointments. Aquarius men are especially prone to such idealization. Women are very sensitive, but they are just as freedom-loving as men and are just as inclined to elevate their chosen one to an unattainable pedestal. They are not immediately disappointed, but once disappointed, they leave their partner forever.

They fit well into any team, are not envious, have an easy-going and good disposition, and are always willing to help newcomers. Having become a leader, they manage to maintain good relations with everyone, willingly share their plans and are never rude dictators. They are always full of fresh and unexpected ideas that they try to implement. They are very disciplined, responsible, enjoy universal respect and often love. They are not interested in money at all, which is why Aquarians often turn out to be truly poor people.

They treat luxury with surprising indifference, even if their wealth allows them to surround themselves with unprecedented comfort. They spend money unscrupulously and ineptly, preferring to spend it on others rather than on themselves. They have artistic abilities, express themselves best in art, and are good workers in television, cinema, education, spiritual mentoring, psychology, and sociology. Aquarians make successful careers in the fields of law, engineering, aeronautics and shipbuilding.

They get sick often, quickly get tired of treatment, refuse it, which can lead to additional exacerbations. Usually graceful, agile, often rushing from one extreme to another, leading either the life of an ascetic and ascetic, or a sybarite and a lazy person. They may suffer from insomnia, as they are under constant nervous tension.

Aquarius has very fragile bones, so numerous fractures are possible. Metabolic disorders, diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, and sclerosis cannot be ruled out. The exposure to infectious diseases is very high. You should lead a measured lifestyle, eat right, try to get tired less and move more. Sedentary work is not favorable for Aquarius.

They are always elegant, have refined taste and strive to look elegant and original. Aquarius women have the rare ability to look dazzling and expensive, without using overly luxurious fabrics or jewelry. Sometimes it happens that originality turns into extravagance, somewhat shocking those around you. Aquarians - both men and women - always strive to look trendy.

Where did the symbols of Lucifer come from?

One of the symbols of Lucifer

Do you know where Lucifer, who, as mentioned above, was the god of the dawn, got two horns, a goat's beard and a tail?

The early fathers of the Catholic Church understood that people would not simply obey social rules, much less the rules of the church. To ensure the obedience of the flock, they were forced to “create” a terrible monster that would eternally punish sinners - that is, those who did not want to obey the church. Then they turned to Greek mythology and discovered Pan, who was the perfect image for evil.

Patron of forests, flocks, shepherds, and later - protector of all nature (in ancient Rome, the cult of Pan merged with the cult of the Roman deities Faun and Innui). Pan was born in the mountains of Arcadia, half man, half goat - with goat legs, horns and a beard. But the early church fathers took the following characteristics into account to create the figure of the devil.

    Pan

Pan in ancient Greece had the following character traits:

    • was considered, among other things, the god of fertility and unbridled sexuality.
    • Endowed with a great sexual appetite, he loved to pursue nymphs in the forests in order to involve him in unbridled pleasures.
    • Greek poets said that Pan had a prophetic gift, as well as other magical abilities (that is, he was a sorcerer).
    • It brought fear and even panic to men. He also hunted young girls and women in order to satisfy his sexual appetites.
    • He also really likes to hide among the shadows of forests and scare random passers-by.
    • In ancient Arcadia, Pan was not only revered, but was considered more of a "demonium meridianum" (demon of the midday) than a true god.

    Lucifer in Roman mythology

However, if you look into the usual encyclopedia of Roman mythology, you will find that the ancient Romans also knew it. But its appearance and the functions it performed were significantly different from its current image. Thus, the first mention of Lucifer is found in Roman mythology. This god is also reflected in Greek mythology. Among the ancient Greeks it is found under the name Eosphorus or Hesperus.

If you do some research, Greek mythology about Eosphorus (in some books and large encyclopedias on mythology, he appears under the name Hesperus) gives us another surprise. It turns out that the ancient Greeks believed that Eosphorus (Lucifer) was the god of the dawn, and Hesperus (according to some sources, the brother of Eosphorus) was considered the deity of the evening star.

But with the development of astronomy as a science, it became known that the evening and morning stars are one and the same. Therefore, the two entities merged into one. Since Hesper (Vesper) was known in Greek mythology as the "evening dawn" and Lucifer - in Roman mythology - his brother, was the "great star". Both of them are related to Venus. These two brothers, Hesperus and Eosphorus (Lucifer), had different parents.

Hesperus's father was the mortal Cephalus, while Lucifer's (Eosphorus) father was the Titan Astraeus, a second generation Titan. In addition, the Roman writer Gaius Julius Hyginus tells us that Astraeus had Tartarus and Gaia themselves as ancestors. And, as follows from Greek mythology, Tartarus was considered a world of darkness, a dark world, or even the underworld.

    lux-fero

Thus, combining all of the above, the name Lucifer was born, in the original lux-fero, which means “messenger of light” or “one who brings light.” Therefore, there is a version that it was precisely because his father came from the ever-hungry abyss that the name Lucifer later turned out to be associated with the abyss (underworld). Due to translation, Lucifer is mistakenly confused with Prometheus.

Another version seems more plausible. The morning dawn appears in the heavens just before dawn, signaling the sunrise. The name comes from the Latin expression lucem ferre - "messenger of light." In the Bible, this expression was used to tell the Babylonian king about Helal, whose name translates as “Day Star, Son of the Dawn.”

King James did not use the original Hebrew texts to translate the Bible into English, but only the translated versions of St. Jerome. Jerome mistranslated the Hebrew metaphor "Daystar, son of the Dawn" as Lucifer. Over the centuries, Eosphorus, the god of the dawn, became a rebellious angel who fell from heaven to reign forever in the underworld.
