The meaning of Orthodox prayers for a good day: texts in Russian

Morning prayers for every day

Every new day brings new difficulties, downs and ups.
Without God's protection, we are more quickly overtaken by disappointment, despondency and troubles. Praying in the morning is very important in order to enlist the support of the Almighty at the very beginning of the day.

This prayer is not just universal, but obligatory for any Christian believer. It is read not only before meals or during difficult moments in life, but also in the morning. After opening your eyes and waking up from sleep, take one minute to read this prayer to pay tribute to heaven, because they woke you up and gave you another day of life. The text of the prayer is familiar to everyone:

Our Father, who art in heaven! Hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, as it is in heaven and on earth. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, just as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Prayers for material well-being

Much has been said about prayers that can make our lives better.

But it is also important to go towards God yourself. After all, only with inner readiness and awareness of the true path does Heaven’s help come

If you are facing money problems, you too can turn to Heaven for help.

It is only important to do it correctly, not with greed in your soul, but by asking God for what is necessary. Find out about prayers for relief from poverty on the website of the Orthodox monastery

Prayer to the Holy Trinity

First, read the text of the prayer itself:

Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us; Lord, cleanse our sins; Master, forgive our iniquities; Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities, for Thy name's sake.

Then you can repeat three times: “Lord, have mercy,” and end the morning prayer with the words “Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen".

The Holy Trinity is the three incarnations of God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Each of these components is our assistant in earthly affairs. Taken together, the Trinity is God, therefore, by reading this prayer, you ask our Creator to grant his mercy and forgive you all your sins - those that were committed intentionally, and those that you have not yet been able to cope with.

Publican's Prayer

“God, be merciful to me, a sinner,” is the simplest of all protective prayers. It is good to read not only in the morning, but also before any undertaking, before leaving the house and before a difficult task.

Do not underestimate these words and think that prayer is better the more difficult and longer it is. This is absolutely not true, because the most important thing is your spiritual attitude and your faith, and not your memorization abilities.

Prayer to the Holy Spirit

“Heavenly King, Comforter, Soul of truth, Who is everywhere and fulfills everything, Treasure of good things and Giver of life, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all filth, and save, O Blessed One, our souls.”

This is a simple prayer - quite rare, difficult to understand, but very effective and ancient. It can be read before meals and in the morning.

Another simple prayer known to almost every Christian:

“Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen."

The first part up to ". have mercy on us” is better to read three times - as it is read in church according to the rules. This is a very light prayer text, and it is what most believers read in the morning and before bed.

Remember that attitude is important. Do not read prayers when you are in a bad mood or if your thoughts are busy with something else. You need full concentration, because you are communicating with God. Even simple prayer words for help will be heard if they are spoken from a pure heart. Good luck and don't forget to press the buttons and

The emergence of a tradition

The existing order of reading has developed since the 18th century; at first it was intended only for monks, but over time it spread to the world. Prayers for the morning include the most precious creations of the Holy Fathers for Christians.

  • “Our Father” - taken from the Bible, was given by the Son of God during his stay on earth.
  • Psalm 50 is a chapter from the Book of Psalms, authored by King David. The psalm is repentant in mood.
  • The Creed is a condensed theological teaching of the Orthodox Church. Accepted by the Fathers of the Church at the Ecumenical Councils, adopted in its current form in 381. It differs from the Creeds adopted in other Christian churches (for example, in the Catholic Church).

It is advisable to at least know these prayers by heart. But in general it is customary to read holy texts not from memory, but from a book. Knowledge of doctrinal prayer books is required so that a person can confidently say what he believes in, as well as turn to God in any situation, even when there is no prayer book at hand.

Also, the texts of the Creed and the Lord’s Prayer are sung during Sunday services, so a Christian should not stand and be silent. In another case, it is not clear why he needs to participate in the Liturgy. Outside observation of what is happening, presence “for show” do not give anything for spiritual development.

  • Prayers before work for success and good luck;
  • Prayers before reading the Akathist;
  • How to be baptized correctly - .

The authors of other texts of the morning rule were church teachers, people known for their holy lives.

  • Macarius the Great - lived in the 4th century. in an Egyptian village, he is known as a great teacher of the church, an ascetic of monastic life. He wrote a number of theological works. During his lifetime he had the gift of working miracles, once even resurrected the dead, and could talk to the dead.
  • Basil the Great - Bishop of Caesarea in the 4th century. He came from a wealthy family and was raised in the Christian faith. He composed the rite of the Liturgy and came up with the church iconostasis. He was the author of sermons, letters, and teachings on moral topics. He interpreted the Bible and composed monastic rules.
  • Saint John Chrysostom - headed the church in Constantinople in the 5th century. One of the three most important teachers of the universal church. Revered in all ancient Christian movements, both Eastern and Western. He left many theological works, on which many saints later relied. He was raised by his mother, who was widowed early, and received a good education. He devoted his life to monastic deeds and the study of the Holy Scriptures. He received his nickname because his words are very wise and pure.

Why do Christians repeat prayers written centuries ago? Because their authors had a very great spiritual experience, which few people have been able to acquire since then.

Therefore, the words of the holy elders serve as a kind of example for believers on how to build a relationship with the Lord. Taking them as a basis, everyone can compose their own appeal, but first they need to “digest” those words that have served as a spiritual beacon for many generations of Christians.

We also recommend reading or listening to bedtime prayers every day.

Rules for reading the prayer book

This type of prayer is worth reading just like others. The main thing in this matter should be concentration and thoughtfulness. What could be worse for a human enemy than refusing temptations and not wanting to give in to them. They also say that during such prayers one can feel indifference and dryness. There is no need to be afraid and stop praying. And soon God’s grace and tenderness will come to you. There may also be a period of abundant emotion. In this case, you should humbly and patiently continue the prayer.

You can turn to the Lord in prayer anywhere. Take the morning reading from sunrise until lunch. But the sooner the better. It is generally customary to do this in front of the icon. It is also advisable to light a candle. She will help you get in the right frame of mind. But don’t be upset if for some reason you are unable to comply with all the wishes for the event. The most important thing is sincere faith and heartfelt prayer.

The life story of Saint Matrona of Moscow

Memorial Days:

  • March 8 (movable) – Finding of relics – March 8 (February 23) in a non-leap year / March 7 (February 23) in a leap year
  • September 2 (movable) – Cathedral of Moscow Saints
  • May 2
  • October 5 – Cathedral of Tula Saints

Matrona Nikonova was born at the end of the 19th century into a poor family. The saint was blind from birth, but this did not stop her from living with dignity and helping many people. Even as a child, the girl discovered the gift of working miracles - she predicted future events and could heal even seriously ill people.

Everyone soon learned about Matrona’s miraculous deeds; people came to her from distant corners with a variety of requests. Blessed Matrona helped everyone, she prayed to the Lord for all those who asked. People came to her to ask for the sick, children, for help in family matters and work. Now they pray to Matrona for prosperity. Greed and greed destroy a person's soul, not money. Livelihood is necessary because people need shelter, food and clothing.

Types of morning prayers

All people can turn to the Lord, regardless of age and material condition, because His mercy and kindness are so great that He is ready to accept even a villain. One of the forms of turning to the Almighty is prayer. Orthodox Christians have the following obligatory rituals:

  • Daily prayer. There is a need for mandatory reading of the morning and evening rules, prayers before meals, before starting a task and at the end of it.
  • Wearing a pectoral cross is also a mandatory attribute, because this sign is a symbol of faith.
  • Attending divine services in churches, cathedrals and monasteries, active participation in prayer.
  • It is necessary to venerate icons, images of saints, and relics. In many places there are unusual images of saints who show miracles - flowing myrrh, bleeding, fragrance, etc.
  • Every true Orthodox Christian should make pilgrimages to holy places.
  • Observance of special days of abstinence from meat foods and temptations - fasting.

One of the most important things to do at the beginning of each new day is morning prayer. The prayer rule is quite large, so there are varieties of prayer rules:

  • complete morning prayer rule;
  • a short morning prayer rule.

Powerful Morning Prayers

Various negative events constantly occur in our lives. And often a person is subjected to difficult trials related to health issues, the problems of children and family, the unstable situation in the world, and so on. And in these cases, the morning rule can be supplemented with prayers according to the difficulty that the person is experiencing. Such strong morning prayers can be addressed to saints whose patronage is a particular issue. But the main power of morning prayers lies within the person himself. Or inside people praying at the same time, if this is a congregational prayer. And the Lord gives us this strength when our thoughts are purified, when we are full members of the Church, we keep or at least try to keep the commandments of God, we come to church for services as to the house of God, to Him as a Friend and Father. Then the Lord, and the Mother of God, and all the powers of heaven will strengthen us and give us and “charge” our morning prayers with Divine power, which means we will be invincible and invulnerable to enemies and all kinds of intrigues.

Holy prayer

If the situation with health or affairs cannot be resolved in any way, it is necessary to call on the help of the church and the quick intercessor Matrona. In the temple you should order a prayer for health in front of the icon of the saint.

Church prayer, when the whole church prays in the person of those gathered, is a particularly powerful prayer. After the prayer service, the priest sprinkles holy water on everyone participating, which invokes the grace of God. At the end, the priest speaks a sermon in which someone will hear instructions for themselves.

In her instructions, Matrona said: “I will die, light candles for me, go to my grave, I will always be there. Tell me everything, and I will give you thoughts on what to do and how to act.” Prayers to the old woman can call upon the necessary thoughts that will prompt the right decision or way out of the situation.

Morning prayer

Many people direct their prayers to the Lord, but not everyone knows how to do it correctly. We all learned something at some point and therefore there is no need to be ashamed. If you don’t understand something, you can ask those who know more about this issue. For beginners, it would be a good idea to follow the advice of St. Ignatius. He said that morning prayers for beginners should be filled with such strength, commensurate with which you would like to receive in return for your request to fulfill it.

In order not to discourage the desire to pray, you should do it in moderation, first starting with a small number of repetitions. Instead of duration, you can increase the frequency. Gradually increase the number of repetitions. He also said that after reading the prayers, it would not be superfluous for beginners to

Reading prayers at home

Jesus Christ taught to communicate with Him to go into your prayer room, closing the doors from the outside world. Every Orthodox family has a corner with icons, although it is increasingly rare to see an icon lamp there.

Red corner in the house

Before starting to worship God, you should light a candle; it is advisable to purchase it in the temple. In a family, and this is a prototype of the church, there are rules for who prays in solitude, and some prefer to do it together, because the intense prayer of a righteous person can do a lot. (James 5:16)

Theophan the Recluse, who spent a lot of time worshiping God, writes that there is no need to rush when starting to pray. Having made the sign of the cross and bowed, you should be silent for a moment, entering a state of worship and reverence before God. Every word of prayer must come from the heart; it must not only be understood, but also felt.

Reading "Our Father";

  • give praise to the Creator who is in Heaven;
  • submit your life to His will;
  • truly forgive the debts and misdeeds of other people, for these are prerequisites for God to forgive each of the Orthodox;
  • ask Him for mercy in solving all material problems with the words “give us this day our daily bread”;
  • establish protection over yourself from demons and satanic temptations;
  • Declare the power of God in your life and His covering over you and your family.

If, while reading the “Prayer Book,” a desire appears in your heart to ask God for some need, do not put it off until later, but immediately bring it before the prayer throne of the Almighty.

The Lord teaches His children to be constant and persistent in prayer through the example of a poor widow (Luke 18:2-6); no petition will remain unanswered by Him. It is very important when communicating with the Savior to put aside all haste; only through a meaningful appeal can one reach God. According to the advice of Bishop Anthony, in order not to be distracted by time limits, you should wind the clock so that the bell rings at the right moment. It doesn’t matter how long the prayer rule lasts and how many prayers are read, the main thing is that they are completely dedicated to God

According to the advice of Bishop Anthony, in order not to be distracted by time limits, you should wind the clock so that the bell rings at the right moment. It doesn’t matter how long the prayer rule lasts or how many prayers are read, the main thing is that they are completely dedicated to God. Saint Ignatius calls regular prayers hard work for sinners, while the righteous experience pleasure from communion with the saints and the Trinity

Saint Ignatius calls regular prayers hard work for sinners, while the righteous experience pleasure from communion with the saints and the Trinity.

If thoughts “run away”, there is no need to rush, you should return to where you began the absent-minded reading of the spiritual proclamation and start all over again. It will help to concentrate on the text being read by saying all the appeals out loud. It is not without reason that they say that prayers read silently are heard by God, and prayers spoken out loud are heard by demons.

Silouan of Athos noted that God does not hear words spoken in empty thoughts and worldly affairs.

Silouan of Athos

The spirit of prayer is strengthened by regularity, just as the body of an athlete is strengthened by training. Having finished your prayer, do not immediately “pounce” on worldly vain affairs, give yourself a few more minutes of being in God’s grace.

Prayers for preserving the family and admonishing the husband

Marriages are made in heaven. If, soon after the wedding, the young spouse does not take care of the family and continues to live as a bachelor, he should turn directly to the Lord. A prayer for admonishing the husband is read in church and at home after the morning rule. It should be pronounced thoughtfully, quietly, three times. After each reading of the text, cross yourself and bow to the waist.

There are a number of prayers to the patron saints of the family.

Prayer to the Mother of God for the preservation of marriage

The Mother of God is a mother herself and considers everyone her children. They pray to her:

  • parents about their daughter’s happiness by marrying her off;
  • spouses who do not have children, about giving them a child;
  • in case of discord between husband and wife.

The Holy Mother of God will take care of the strength of the family and the happiness of spouses and children. She will send harmony and understanding, tell you how to achieve happiness for adults and children.

Prayer to Nicholas the Wonderworker for the preservation of the family

During his lifetime, Nikolai Ugodnik constantly protected women from the arbitrariness of their husbands and the deception of scammers. He has many good deeds to his credit that change the fate of girls.

One should pray to the Wonderworker at home, in front of his icon. At the same time, the fire of a candle or lamp should be burning. There is no specific time for reading texts, the main thing is solitude and sincerity. To find peace and get rid of anger and the desire for revenge, priests recommend that you first read the “Our Father” three times, then the prayer “Virgin Mother of God, Rejoice” and begin reading the prayer to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker.

The text must be learned by heart. Even if no one is nearby, you must say it in a quiet voice, then in a whisper, and for the third time silently, to yourself. When turning to the holy Pleasant, the most important thing is the last mental reading of the prayer. She is the one who will be heard.

Prayer to the intercessors of family ties Guria, Samon and Aviv

The graves of Guria, Samon and Aviva who died for the Christian faith are nearby, although the latter died later. All three professed Christianity during their lifetimes and were devoted supporters of the faith. When they were offered to accept paganism on pain of death, they chose to suffer and die.

Already in heaven, the three saints repeatedly helped deceived women restore justice and get rid of the tyrant’s tyranny. A prayer is read to the patron saints to admonish the husband.

Prayer to Saints Peter and Fevronia for the preservation of the family union

Born in pagan families, Peter and Fevronya came to Christianity in different ways. But having learned the power of Christ, for the rest of their lives they preached faith in the Savior to people and demonstrated an example of mutual understanding.

Prayer to Saint Matrona of Moscow for the preservation of the family

Since childhood, Matronushka has helped people get rid of illnesses, and with her prayers she put hopelessly sick people back on their feet. Nowadays, women who do not have children come to her relics. A family cannot be truly happy without children's laughter. They pray to Matrona of Moscow for the salvation of the family, for the happiness of motherhood and fatherhood.

Prayer for the preservation of the family and admonishment of the husband to the Evangelist John the Theologian

John the Theologian is the only one of the 12 apostles who died a natural death in his old age. According to legend, it was he who wrote a number of sacred books included in the New Testament. Therefore, on icons he is often depicted with a pen and inkwell in his hand.

All his life John preached the Christian religion and was a missionary. He cared about families, believing that only together, a man and a woman would be happy. God wants people to live in love and raise children. John the Theologian carried this idea throughout his life.

Prayer of Saint Xenia of Petersburg

During her lifetime, Ksenia of Petersburg was considered crazy by many. She was content with little, walked barefoot in old clothes, and sometimes even forgot to eat. Ksenia constantly took care of the poor, the unfortunate, and orphans. She gave them her last crumbs and constantly prayed for them.

Prayer for money to go to St. George the Victorious

Such a prayer is read to preserve and increase money. It protects against thoughtless spending, sudden events that involve unexpected purchases, as well as against the machinations of scammers and deceivers. A prayer is read at the icon of St. George the Victorious at least once a month, or more often if the soul so desires. Not only a purchased holy face is suitable, but also its open image on the screen of a gadget or computer.

To reduce costs in times when the budget may turn out to be much larger than planned (repairs, buying a home, going to university, a long course of treatment and recovery after surgery, moving to another city or country), read the prayer to the Victorious every day while it’s going on. will not be completed.

We advise you to study the Sacrament of the Priesthood (Ordination)

Georgy also helps with work matters, makes work better, makes the atmosphere in the team calmer and warmer, improves relations with management, drawing their attention to your efforts. Many parishioners reading this prayer spoke of a fairly quick promotion and an impressive increase in wages.

Prayer rule law or grace

Many novice Orthodox Christians are interested in the question: if prayer is a free appeal to the Creator, then why make it conform to the law.

In response to such an appeal, the Saratov abbot Pachomius clarifies that freedom and permissiveness should not be confused. The freedom of believers consists in the boldness of being before the throne of the Most High, which sinners and the unbaptized cannot afford. Permissiveness returns the believer to his former life, and it is then much more difficult to return to the grace of appeals to the Savior.

In the spiritual world there is no consensus regarding the duration and order of prayer before the Almighty. Some people remain in reverent worship for hours, while others cannot stand even half an hour.

Regular, constant spending time reading prayers will help you develop the habit of daily communication with the Creator, even if it’s 15 minutes in the evening.

Prayer Rule

First, you should purchase a “Prayer Book” and read it. Sometimes an Orthodox person understands that reading out of obligation turns into an empty habit; if this happens, then one can move on, as St. Theophan the Recluse did, to reading psalms and scriptures from the Bible.

The main thing is to be filled with worship of the Creator every day, to enter His presence, to feel His protection throughout the day. Evangelist Matthew wrote that to conquer the Kingdom of God you need to use force. (Matt. 11:12)

To help the beginning prayer book

There are three prayer lists for Orthodox believers.

  1. The complete prayer rule is designed for spiritually persistent believers, which include monks and clergy.
  2. The prayer rule for all laity consists of a list of prayers read in the morning and evening; a list of them can be found in the “Prayer Book”:
  • in the morning: “Heavenly King”, Trisagion, “Our Father”, “Virgin Mother of God”, “Rising from sleep”, “Have mercy on me, O God”, “I Believe”, “God, cleanse”, “To You, Master”, “ Holy Angel”, “Most Holy Lady”, invocation of saints, prayer for the living and the dead;
  • in the evening: “Heavenly King”, Trisagion, “Our Father”, “Have mercy on us, Lord”, “Eternal God”, “Good King”, “Angel of Christ”, from “The Chosen Governor” to “It is worthy to eat”.

Seraphim of Sarov proposed another short prayer rule for those laity who, for some reason, are limited in time or are in unpredictable circumstances.

Icon of Seraphim of Sarov

It consists of reading each prayer three times:

  • "Our Father";
  • “Virgin Mother of God, rejoice”;
  • "I believe."

Particular attention should be paid to reading spiritual appeals to the Almighty Creator and Savior during the period of fasting, before receiving the Sacrament of Communion and in the hour of difficult life trials. Advice! God's mercy accompanies those who began communicating with God in the morning, before breakfast, and ended by reading spiritual texts before dinner

Moral preparation for worship

For a beginning Orthodox believer, it is advisable to purchase a “Prayer Book” in modern Russian, so that while reading what is written, delve into every word, filling it with strength and grace, and receive instruction and support.

This is the advice of Nicodemus the Holy Mountain, which points out the importance of understanding every word of the text being read. Over time, many texts are stored in memory and read by heart

Before reading the Prayer Book, you should ask the Holy Spirit to show whether there are any remnants of resentment, bitterness or irritation in your heart. Mentally forgive all offenders and ask for forgiveness from those who were treated unfairly, this is how the Orthodox pray.

According to Tikhon of Zadonsk, all negativism should be abandoned, for, as Gregory of Nyssa wrote, the Creator is Kind, Righteous, Patient, Lover of Humanity, Kind-hearted, Merciful, the goal of the prayer rule is to be transformed into the image of the Creator, to acquire all the qualities for philanthropy.

Orthodox start of the day

Christian traditions did not arise immediately. But the need for prayer has always been: all the famous biblical righteous people spent a lot of time communicating with God. Even Jesus Christ Himself spent a lot of time turning to heaven. Even if the level of spirituality has dropped greatly today, we should not neglect this activity.

Since a true believer must compare his entire existence with the will of God, turning to Him is the first serious matter with which a Christian’s day begins. That is why it is customary to say morning prayers. What are the benefits of reading them?

  • Helps you gather your thoughts before starting the day.
  • Provides yourself with heavenly protection throughout the day.
  • A person sets priorities correctly and copes better with stress at work.

Where can I get the morning rule? It is found in every Orthodox prayer book, on the very first pages. After baptism, you should purchase such a book and keep it in a special place in the house - for example, near a shelf with icons. There it is better to perform the sacred act of communion with God.

Religious Christian literature

Having worked with the established rules, and feeling the need to expand your personal spiritual horizons, be sure to implement your plans, having previously consulted with your confessor about reading religious literature. Thank God, there is quite a lot of it and there is plenty to choose from.

Most often read:

  • Holy Scripture;
  • Bible: Old and New Testament;
  • Lives of the Saints;
  • Breviary;
  • God's Law;
  • Book of Hours;
  • Akathists.

The list can be continued for a long time. Reading religious works is not only useful, but it makes you think about many things. Reconsider your views on many things. Sweep away the trash, join the divine light, and finally learn to love - God, people, yourself - simply and with all your heart.

True, this is not everyday reading, but sometimes a difficult task, since what is written requires comprehension, penetration into the very essence of the material being read, but not only that. The difficulty is that many books are written in Old Church Slavonic, which poses quite serious obstacles for a modern reader who is not accustomed to this kind of language.

Therefore, you should not immediately get down to fundamental things, but it is better to consult with the priest, ask for his blessing, and ask him to explain unclear passages.

The right time

A special book called a prayer book contains clear instructions on the time to work with certain sacred texts: just getting out of bed - in the morning, and in the evening, shortly before going to bed, that is, after all the everyday worries of a long day. Under no circumstances should you watch TV, listen to the radio or anything else after reading, but go straight to bed.

However, there are times when for some reason a person does not have the opportunity to sleep: a flexible work shift, for example. Then asking for a blessing makes no sense, because you won’t go to rest anyway. It’s better to work with the Gospel or something else at your discretion instead of the usual rule.

The story of one of our readers Alina R.:

Money has always been my main problem. Because of this, I had a lot of complexes. I considered myself a failure, problems at work and in my personal life haunted me. However, I decided that I still needed personal help. Sometimes it seems that the problem is in you, all failures are just a consequence of bad energy, the evil eye or some other bad force.

But who can help in a difficult life situation, when it seems that your whole life is going downhill and passing you by? It’s hard to be happy working as a cashier for 26 thousand rubles, when you had to pay 11 thousand for renting an apartment. Imagine my surprise when my whole life suddenly changed overnight for the better. I couldn’t even imagine that it was possible to earn so much money that some trinket at first glance could have such an impact.

It all started with the fact that I ordered myself a personal...

Is it necessary to read a prayer book during the day?

Once having dedicated their lives to the Lord, Orthodox people are under His protection all their lives.

Throughout your busy day, you should not forget to invoke the Father’s mercy with the words “Bless, God!” Having passed through a test, receiving a reward or blessing, having done a successful job, do not forget to give all the glory to the Creator with the words “Glory to you, my God!” When you get into trouble, when you are sick or in danger, cry out: “Save me, God!” and He will hear. We must not forget about thanking the Lord for everything that has been sent down from above.

Before eating, one should not forget to thank the Creator for the given food and ask for His blessing to accept it.

By constantly being in prayer, having acquired the habit of crying out at any second, thanking, asking, repenting before God with all your heart, and not with empty words, an Orthodox person becomes God-thinking. God-thinking helps to understand the goodness of the Creator, the existence of the Heavenly Kingdom and brings Orthodox Christians closer to God.

How to behave correctly during prayer communication

Prayerful communication of all Orthodox Christians is performed standing; only elderly and sick people can sit. While reading the prayer book, in recognition of their sinfulness and imperfection, showing humility, people bow, some to the waist, while others bow to the ground.

Prayerful communication with God

Some Orthodox believers perform prayer communion while kneeling. The holy apostles opposed such worship, explaining that only slaves kneel; children do not need to do this. (Gal. 4:7) However, having committed some sin, it is not forbidden to kneel in submission, begging for forgiveness.

Beginning believers sometimes do not know how to correctly make the sign of the cross. The fingers of the right hand should be folded as follows:

  • press the little finger and ring finger to the palm, they mean that Jesus was God and man at the same time;
  • put the thumb, index and middle fingers together, three-fingered, as a symbol of the unity of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

How to be baptized correctly

Drawing a cross in the air, touch the middle of the forehead with folded fingers, then lower the hand just below the navel, move to the right and then the left shoulder, only after this they bow.

A careless attitude to the sign of the cross, according to John Chrysostom, causes joy only among demons. The sign of the cross, performed with faith and reverence, is filled with God's grace and is a terrifying force for demonic attacks.

Before reading spiritual texts, you should try to free yourself from vain thoughts; this is sometimes difficult, so try to imagine the great sacrifice of Christ and your presence before Him in this world.

Never perform your prayers “for show”; in the spiritual world they will be an empty phrase. Delve into every word of the appeal to the Savior, filling yourself with His grace and love.

How to read prayers correctly in the morning

Before you take on such an important task, you should still get yourself in order - wash, change clothes, and recover a little after sleep. If you don’t have much time, it’s not a big deal; you can limit yourself to the prayer “Our Father.”

In the modern world, people sometimes have little time left even for the most sacred things. In this case, you need to consult with your spiritual father - he will tell you which prayers are mandatory to read and which ones can be omitted.

You can use the time you spend on the road. For example, download audio files from an Orthodox website and place them on your device. While on public transport, repeat the words to yourself, tuning in for the coming day, or listen to them in the car.

But when there is nothing distracting, it is advisable to stand calmly in front of the images. If you have one, light a church candle. Slowly read the morning prayer rule in its entirety. It is advisable that there be no distractions at this time - the phone does not ring, the TV does not work. Thoughts should be directed exclusively to spiritual spheres. At the end, you must turn to the Creator in your own words. Everyone has something to share, something to complain about, something to ask for.

Daily repetition of turning to Christ, God the Father and the Holy Spirit is not only communication with the Creator, but also trains the will. And every believer needs it in order to show firmness in professing his principles in life. A weak-willed, weak person is not able to fulfill his Christian duty to the Lord and his neighbors.
